"Alien Quest," by Mark Zubro, aka Mark Richard Zubro, is the first in the "Alien Danger" Trilogy. My softcover copy consists of 385 pages, but if you include the end pages, as well as the beginning pages, it has roughly 395 pages. It was published by MLR Press, LLC, which, alas, is no longer in business.
Mike Carlson is a waiter in Chicago. Living his life, enjoying spending time with friends and family, not looking for fame, fortune, sex, or even romantic love. And then, one day, he meets Joe, who was beat up by a bunch of thugs. Joe is not an ordinary person. In fact, he is from another Planet, and is here on Earth, not to save humanity, but to bring back an escaped prisoner from his homeworld. So, now I know that All Cops Are Bastards (or, ACAB, for short) but only on Earth.
Mike is very difficult to convince, for obvious reasons, but in the short time that Mike spends with Joe, he begins to feel alive for the first time in a long time, and goes on adventures that he never even dreamed up, even in his wildest dreams.
Soon enough, not only does Joe show Mike proof that he is, indeed, from another Planet, but both of them find themselves not only attracted to each other, but connecting emotionally with each other, too. And did I mention both Mike and Joe stumble upon a nefarious plot involving people living with AIDS?
I have not read nearly enough of Mr. Zubro's books, and I look forward to rectifying that in 2026. And yes, "Alien Home (Book 2)" and "Alien Victory (the third and final book in this trilogy)" are already on the TBR list for 2026.
