Rate this book
Varoitus: Tämä kirja on laiton, tunteeton, perverssi, hävytön, synkkä, paheellinen, tuomittava ja yksinkertaisesti vain kertakaikkisen vääristynyt. Herkkämielisten tulisi laittaa kirja takaisin hyllyyn ja siirtyä välittömästi itsehoito-oppaitten osastolle.

Maailmanlaajuisesti naurattava, miljoonien ihmisten nettihittisarjakuva Onnea & syanidia nyt ensi kertaa suomeksi! Mukana 150 sarjakuvaa, joista 30 uutta vain tätä kirjaa varten tehtyä, täynnä asiattomia vitsejä, epäkunnioittavia hahmoja ja arveluttavaa käytöstä, jotka takaavat lukijalle naurut.

Anna siis mennä... nauti täysin siemauksin kiusallisista hiljaisuuksista, hämmenny avaruustunkeilijoista, tai seuraa Sairauskohtausmiehen seikkailuja. Et joudu tämän takia helvettiin... luultavasti.*

I didn't like it, I wasn't offended, but it wasn't for me. Maybe it is a cultural thing, because some things I didn't get. Boring and I rarely laughed while reading.

This was a Christmas present, and I read it knowing a bit about the webcomic and knowing it wasn't really my thing. The absurdist stuff is great, and several strips made me laugh out loud, but unfortunately a lot of the rest relies on shock value and being as gross, creepy and offensive as possible. It got a bit boring after a while. Which is a shame, because the stuff that doesn't rely on violent sexism or laughing at child abuse is really funny.

The good stuff was great but the bad stuff was APPALLING. Jokes about rape, domestic violence and pedophilia are not 'edgy', they are despicable.

One of their better ones that made me both laugh out loud while reading it on public transport and be embarrassed that I'm reading this on public transport.

It's a collection of some of their earliest works, which made them so famous. Some of it are hit-and-a-miss, but boy when they hit! This brand of humour is not for everyone, but something I am used to .

description

It was rather difficult finding an appropriate image to give a taste of what Cyanide and Happiness are all about. Think NSFW, designed to push to the line then go running well past it! Not for the fainthearted!

I had read many before on their website, offering a new strip daily, but the book includes a section of new seen before strips, which was a nice touch.

Lots of laughs. 4 stars.

I bought this on a whim whilst at a bookstore shopping for something else. I've read other comics by these authors and thought I'd give a whole book of them a go. I have to admit - I laughed out loud at some of them. This is a hilarious read - as long as you're not offended easily. Because let's face it, the type of humour contained in here definitely falls into the category of "not politically correct...by anyone's standards". So if you can overcome that, give it a try.

Dark humour! But so funny that you only feel a bit ashamed at laughing at on several...either that or I am going to Hell.
Not for the easily offended or really sensitive that cannae laugh at the worst tastes.
However if you don't know Cyanide & Happiness from the Web then you really need to check out the depraved lunatics stuff.

Won't win awards, simple but effective but for those who laugh at almost everything, it's a gem!

Pari kertaa virnistin kuitenkin.

A good reminder that 13yo me was a menace. Definitely didn't age well and interestingly I have seen edgier more "illicit, insensitive, perverse, profane, dark, depraved, reprehensible and, well, just plain wrong" comments in Instagram reels comments. I still use these stick figure drawings to this day.

Also it might just be the time period but cyanide and happiness walked so Rick and Morty could run imo.

Dommage.

So four white guys think jokes about rape, sexual assault, domestic violence, and pedophilia are funny, as long as they call it edgy? Hmm.

Clearly the humor of it all is missing.
Sorry guys, it's not funny. It's stupid, obnoxious and pure prejudiced.

comedy is hard, the people who work on cyanide and happiness do a decent job at it

I've not read the others but they've better content available for free online and their videos are a lot better. Some of these are really good but a lot of them are - meh.

As a fan of the Cyanide and Happiness webcomic, it's pretty obvious that I would like this book filled with crude, often disgusting and always non-PC comics, although I would never have spent the money to buy it even with its bonus, never-before-seen comics, (sorry Explosm, I'm happy for you and all, I'm just poor and would rather spend my money on real literature).
However I was super happy to receive this collection for Christmas, so I did enjoy reading the comics, and so I would recommend this as a gift to anyone who enjoys reading webcomics, although, as the introduction to this book says, if you are under 15 or over 50, there's a good chance something inside the covers will offend you, so beware kids and seniors.

A couple of funny strips, a couple of sort-of-okay ones, and the rest pretty much follow this pattern:

"I like butter."
"You like butter?"
"I like butter."
"CANCER!"

Reading this strip on the web, where you get one every day or two probably helps to keep them fresh, but reading a hundred-odd in a row it becomes very quickly obvious that there is no tone or variation to the comic. Surprising, given four separate creators contribute, but the whole reading experience is very much like hearing the same single note being played on a drum, over and over and over again. A couple of stars for the genuinely funny entries, but nothing more.

22 July 2017:

The style is charming, but most of the jokes don't land. It's a little amateurish in the sense that it shows promise, but isn't quite there yet. I'm looking forward to the next book.
__

15 April 2019:

Some jokes get repetitive, like the ones where a patient talks to a doctor, they both laugh, and the punchline is that the patient has aids/cancer/some other deadly disease.
I like Kris and Dave's comics best; Kris's "interpretive dance battle" comic is my favourite.
__

19 February 2020:

Not a fan of their early work. In general, I like Kris and Dave's comics, but Rob and Matt's jokes fall flat more often than not.

Excellent Excellent, it plays on the humor that is derived from the least expected, the most unlikely and the highly offensive. Yet somehow, within this precarious age bracket and reading this book, the oddly offensive is transformed to a witty and funny comic. At times ridiculously funny, at times lame and cliche. The humor it inspires within you cannot be fully explained, and when two read the same comic strip, one may laugh his heart out while the other merely glances over. Such is the humor contained within this book.

A terrible, hilarious comic by a group of friends. I don't like all their jokes, but enough stick to make it worth a read. It's nice to have these in a book, rather than via a hundred clicks of a website. Volume 2 is just as good.
