Very sweet ending to an incredible series! Brenna, Jake, and Saxon have grown tremendously throughout these books and have formed a bond with one another that's not always harmonious, but remains unbreakable, nonetheless.
Slow Twitch is told in the alternating perspectives of Brenna, Jake, and Saxon, and I completely loved being able to delve inside the heads of these characters that I've grown to adore and admire. This was an emotional, loving, fun, sexy, and inspiring journey that concludes with the lovely happily-ever-after I was hoping for, but also leaves options open for more story...*fingers crossed* Terrific read!

January 24, 2013Adored this book! All the things I'd hoped for in the previous two books (which I also loved) happened in this book. I've always been torn between Saxon and Jake but WOW. All I can say is read it. If you haven't read Double Clutch and Junk Miles yet READ THEM first. Fantastic series.

Have you ever wanted to be in what I like to call... “Book Coma”??
I’ve wished for it several times. It’s pretty simple.... I’d write down some of my most Favorite, all time novels. Book coma would hit. I’d grab my “Book coma list” and discovery the glory of reading my favorite books/series all over again.
On my Book Coma Worthy List... Brenna Blixen Series would be amongst them. At the top.
I had a feeling about this book.... And that was why I stalked Liz Reinhardt’s FB author page for updates on Slow Twitch.
I can now clasp my hands together, raise them above my head and do a victory cheer, because, “BAM, sucka! I was right!”
Slow Twitch is focused around summer time for Jake,Brenna, and Saxon. And a lot of things are changing for the three of them.
Brenna is away in Ireland for a few weeks. Jake goes to New York to meet his fathers side of the family and discovers a lot about himself. Saxon is sent to his Aunt’s home when he gets in big trouble back home, and ends up falling hard for the bosses daughter. When everyone is back together, things have changed. Even for the short time that they were all apart.
Slow Twitch was a lighter read, BUT at the same time it held a lot of changes for our characters. If you’ve read the other two books, I think you’ll agree with me, that this is the exactly what we’ve been waiting for!!
This book could have went one way or the other. I usually only like books with just the girls‘ POV.. But out of all the POV’s: Jake, Brenna, and Saxon’s... I still can’t decide which one I liked best. I was able to find their separate voices real and not only that authentic , and completely their own.
Jake- A huge change in him in this book!! There was a lot of self-discovery for each character, and his was a slow process. In the first two books, we’ve watched him put himself down, and deal with his past regrets. But he comes to the realization that he has a lot more worth, and has a life outside of Brenna. I was glad for that!
Brenna- Still a character that I enjoy SO much! Her POV always rushed by for me. I think anyone who was peeved off at her in Junk Miles will really love her in this book.
‘Cause you see the one thing I love about this author is she makes her characters so unquestionably true.
And this time around, Brenna is fighting off a little bug called jealously... Jake has always needed her, Saxon’s always wanted her. But in ST, Brenna realizes that Saxon could possibly be moving on, is starting to become happy. Jake might perhaps find other girls pretty. The jealous side of Brenna comes out, and I think it makes her even more relatable to us readers. (We’ve all experienced it.. yeah.. it’s not pretty.)
“He was like this wild animal you saw and had the overwhelming urge to tame.”
I think that quote from Brenna is the perfect description of Saxon.
Saxon- What’s with this guy? He’s an addictive character!!
He might be my most favorite to read... (don’t get excited, I’ll change my mind in 2.4 seconds) His voice had me smirking. And his descriptions of Cadence had me GIDDY. Yes, Giddy.
I was more than ready to see my most favorite fictional bad boy be roped down by a girl.
Ah! His POV has the most growth to me. The biggest turn about.
And come on... we’ve all been waiting to see this amorous side of him.
Cadence and Evan - Two girls that are introduced to the series, that are great characters. Cadence is a fiery, outspoken girl who captures Saxon’s attention. Evan quickly becomes close friends with Brenna, but has issues of her own. Issues that I’m dying to read more about!! That sounds horrible... but I don’t care. Liz brought me to this point. She sucks me in and has me wondering about things!!
And can I say, how I didn’t think it was possible for the Blixen Series to get any..what’s the word... steamer, hotter? The romance.... lets not even go there right now... it was amazing!!
This whole entire series is like a gift that keeps on giving... and you never want it to stop. Basically I’m saying this series should NEVER end. I mean it.. I’ll have a PTDCD moment if it does. Post traumatic Double Clutch disorder.. about 95% of the people who have read this series... suffer from PTDCD.
Liz is on the cusp of something amazing here!! There’s this whole new world of Mature YA- and her books- along with a few others, are breaking ground for this genre!!! I really can’t wait to READ what she writes next!

Briefly: I enjoyed this, even though the story meandered quite a bit. I was surprised by how smooth the transitions were between Brenna, Saxon's, and Jake's POVs, and it was kind of fun to be in the boys' heads for once. I wasn't so crazy about all the "Brenna is so hot" comments again and again though, and I do think poor Jake gets the short end of the stick a bit, since he isn't given that much to do and Saxon's story is so much more interesting.
Rambling thoughts: I like the new friend, even though I think we spent a little too much time with her. This always happens when a new spinoff character is introduced in a book, though. :/ I'm glad that Saxon . It did make me a little nuts I get it, valid point, but it was too much.
Still, the book was cute and had a little bit more of the spark I enjoyed so much in Double Clutch. It wasn't as great as that first book, but it does allow me to have some closure and to pretend that Junk Miles doesn't exist. I really hope this is the end of this love triangle, though. And if they show up in the spinoff series, I won't mind at all, because I really do like these guys. .

Brenna and Jake are still hopelessly in Love.

She wants to take the next step in the relationship. Yep lose the BIG V Jake doesn’t want too. He’s past still haunts him too much.
Brenna is off to Ireland for a writing course for a few weeks. She makes great new friends there. Her writing has never been better. She writes a poem that can cause Serious problems with her and Jake.
Jake however is off to spend some time with his real Dad and his family. Who is ridiculously loaded. Will the money change him? Turn him into Saxon? Will he cheat on Brenna with the pretty rich kids?
Saxon
however is in deep shit! He’s been caught with Cocaine. He’s been sent to WORK in one of his Dad’s restaurants. He has to stay in his Aunt’s run down house. Work for free. And well Actually do something for once.
Problem number one. He has to work.
Problem number two. He’s away from Blix
Problem number three. He has no car.
Problem number four. Cadence She won’t have a bar of him. Is not reacting to any of his charms and has a boyfriend. He’s in trouble alright.
This book was my favorite of the three. Not only are we in Brenna’s head. We are also in Saxons and Jake’s! To read about what goes on in their heads was awesome!
A great HEA that really did make me smile. I’m going to miss this bunch if kids and their crazy friends.

I wavered between 3 and 4 stars here. I might change my mind. The character of Jake is 5 stars. I loved Jake in all the books...just wished he had more confidence in himself and saw how great he was. Gotta love a reformed bad boy and one as adorable and sweet and loving as him.
What this book has in its favor and why I struggle between a 3 and a 4 is that I loved getting Jake's and Saxon's POV. It was nice being in their heads as being in Brenna's was exhausted and left me feeling a bit burnt out.
But the thing is, I don't like to finish a book feeling confused and that is how I felt at the end of this. The rest of what I have to say is spoilerish so I will spoiler out (I hope) the rest of this review. If it doesn't work, stop reading now :)

Going to keep this one short as well.
I've just finished Slow Twitch, and it was amazing! Not only do we still read from Brenna's point of view, but we get to be inside Saxon's AND Jake's head! It was just completely amazing that I'm still in complete awe about the whole book.
I honestly didn't think it was possible to love these three characters more, but its true. I love them. I loved every moment of reading this book. My favourite moments where reading from Saxon's and Jake's heads. We see a completely different side to both boys, and if you were trying to pick a team it is completely hard. However, it's in this book, finally, that you accept that Jake is the one from Brenna. And it was awesome that Liz introduced the new girl Cadence to the story, not leaving Saxon sad or alone. I've always loved multiple POV's, and sometimes if it's more than two it gets a little confusing or it takes a while to get into the transition. Not with Slow Twitch. Reading from three points of views, was extremely easy to transition into, having been through a lot in the last two books with all three characters.
Slow Twitch was wonderfully written, and paced just right from each character that it never left you bored, and always, always left you wanting more.
I think this was most definitely my favourite of the three, and I think that's due to not only Liz's wonderful writing but the multiple POV's that were included. This one blew me away completely, and when I wasn't reading it, I was thinking about it, and I was thinking about both boys.
Now on to the question: Team Saxon or Team Jake? Well, for me, I'm still very much neutral. However deep within me, I know Jake is the right one for her and the ending to Slow Twitch confirmed it. I'm neither Team Saxon nor Team Jake, I love both boys too much to be able to pick one (for myself), for Brenna, Jake is the obvious choice.
This was a superb read. And if you haven't read this trilogy by Liz then I suggest you pick them up right away! I really cannot wait to read Inherit her new Mature YA Paranormal novel coming in the Summer! Squee!
Note: This book contains hot teen sex, and should only be read by the older YA demographic. (16+)

What to say about this book? I am not sure how I feel about it,do I like it,or not? One thing is certain,there is a lot of action in the bedroom. *wink* Also Saxon is a changed man. Hallelujah! I still love Jake more.

After all the chaos I endured through the
other two books, this one feels calm and
like everything is falling into place for them.
It was like the moment when a roller coaster comes to
a stop and your coming down from the high of the ride.
Loved it. Love the new Saxon. :)

Wowza!! The Brenna Blixen series isn’t one I ever expected to love because I am so anti love-triangles and it focuses on three teens thrown together and Brenna’s love for two boys who happen to be brothers.
In Slow Twitch we see Brenna spending her summer at a writers workshop in Ireland, Saxon on family-enforced probation and Jake getting to know the wealthy Mclean side of his family, namely his father who abandoned him and Saxon as children.
A lot happens in this book, relationships progress, decisions are made and mistakes occur, it portrays the teens realistically and in a believable way that isn’t all love and roses. Ms Reinhardt has weaved a story that will leave you laughing, crying, angry and happy all within a few pages, I love the varying emotions evoked and how they are handled; her writing is flawless and the plot thoroughly entertaining.
The main characters are each fleshed out perfectly; I adore Brenna who is intelligent, compassionate, witty and switched on; she really knows what she wants in life which I think is wonderful. Saxon really matures in this book and at times I didn’t know whether I liked this side of him, I love his wild ways, his quick wit, charm and sarcasm but we really see some big changes from him in Slow Twitch and Jake was amazing! What a sweetheart he is; I loved seeing his relationship progress with Brenna and the positives coming his way academically.
We also meet a few new characters, Evan (female) who reminded me so much of Saxon with her wild and carefree ways. I would love to see a spin-off about her. We also meet Cadence who is Saxon’s new love interest, I resented her initially because she wasn’t Brenna but I eventually warmed to the idea of her being with and taming Saxon.
Liz Reinhardt’s writing is absolute brilliance; the dialogue is amazing and the details she provided vivid. Slow Twitch is also told from each of the main characters POV’s which I loved. I can’t recommend this series enough; there is romance, drama and ongoing conflict that keep you turning the pages.
Slow Twitch is definitely for the older teen as it contains sex, language and drug and alcohol references.
I have my fingers tightly crossed there will be another in this series – I need more.

I almost forget how much fun to read such a good YA book until this kind of book comes along.
I finished reading this book with a huge grin on my face and feel a bit younger.. This book is forever on my TBR since the disappointing Junk Mails when Brenna turned into someone who really different from Brenna I loved from Double Clutch.
I was afraid that this book became such a typical love triangle story with the betrayal and whinny teenagers but guess what.. I was totally WRONG!!!
I loved this book!
My favorite character from this book is of course Jake Kelly. The wild and sweet and hot-with-a-halo on his head Jake is definitely the most lovable teenage boy character to me. He's a responsible hard worker with pride as high as mountain and heart so big I couldn't help but loved him for his love to Brenna.
Liz Reinhardt is amazing. She really can make those characters so real with their own flaws. This book is such a sweet and feels good book and the story is exactly what I expect from a high school romance.
My only complain is that there are too many steamy scenes for a YA book.
But overall... this book is definitely a five stars book. YA on its finest.
I almost forget how much fun to read such a good YA book until this kind of book comes along.
I finished reading this book with a huge grin on my face and feel a bit younger.. This book is forever on my TBR since the disappointing Junk Mails when Brenna turned into someone who really different from Brenna I loved from Double Clutch.
I was afraid that this book became such a typical love triangle story with the betrayal and whinny teenagers but guess what.. I was totally WRONG!!!

My favorite character from this book is of course Jake Kelly. The wild and sweet and hot-with-a-halo on his head Jake is definitely the most lovable teenage boy character to me. He's a responsible hard worker with pride as high as mountain and heart so big I couldn't help but loved him for his love to Brenna.

After Junk Miles I was dying to know what would happen with 3 of my favorite characters! Especially Saxon. I enjoyed how this book gave Brenna, Jake and Saxon's point of view. While I went back and forth between who Brenna should be with during the first book, by the second book I knew Jake was the one for her. However I still wanted something amazingly steamy to happen with Saxon for some reason. Book 2 closed that down for him. I love how he went on to Aunt Helen's and became "reformed". I loved each direction it took. Brenna I still felt like while she loved Jake so much she wasn't as in love with him as he was with her. It irritated me a little because he put up with so much from her. While I'm being completely honest I wanted Saxon to find happiness, and while at first I was excited about Cadence, I ended up not really feeling it. I guess it came too quick after his obsession with Brenna. Maybe if it would have been spread out into one more book instead of shoved all into one book that was shared with 2 other main characters I could have wrapped my head around it more. It was still great though, and I enjoyed the steamy scenes to say the least.
I think it was a great series, I'd totally recommend reading it.

Wow! What a journey. I adore Saxon, Jake, and Brenna. If this is really the last book, I have to say I'm sad and I'm going to miss them but I don't know how much more my heart could take anyway.
I was pretty nervous/skeptical going into this book. Double Clutch was so good, so sweet and everything I love about a high school romance story. Surprisingly, the love triangle did not bother me. Junk Miles, however, fell into the dreaded book 2 curse. I did not hate it but I did not love it like Double Clutch. So Slow Twitch had a lot to live up to and in my opinion Reinhardt did just that. She managed to weave a fantastic story line, smoothly alternate points of view, introduce new and very likable characters, tie up some issues between the 3 main characters in a way that I think did them all justice and manage to still leave me wanting more. (Even if my heart is telling me NO MORE! Haha!)

I need to comment on the cover- who is this supposed to be? Not Jake! And definitely not Saxon. Anyway - finally the suspense is over and the boys find their girls and all is well in the world! Jake is still a little unsure of his relationship and has jealousy issues with B and Saxon, which IMHO is not attractive...but I do love a moto cross boy! Saxon gives up his wild ways for the girl he falls for (which seemed to happen a little too quick) till the very end and he ends up drunk and what could turn out to be going back to old bad habits. we are introduced to Evan, a nice added character, there where times I thought B might experiment with a little g/g with the spooning and touching scenes but that didn't play into the good girl thing she got going on. Cadence, I don't really understand her or how Saxon fell for her other than being off limits at first. I did like the changing POV but it felt like there was almost too much going on.

After going to the darkside with drugs and alcohol Saxon is sent to the city to his aunt Helene's there he must work to earn the right to recieve his trust fund. While there he meets a girl Cadence suddenly it's out with the old Saxon and in with the new Saxon. But has he really changed??
While in Ireland Brenna befriends a girl named Evan. Evan comes from a wealthy family in Georgia. After the 3wks in Ireland Brenna comes home and is surprised to see Jake with her mom at the airport. Her mom announces that they will be going back to New York to visit Jake's family. Brenna notices Jake is uncomfortable and later finds out exactly why. His Family. While Brenna wants to take their relationship to the next level(sex) Jake shy's away from going to far with his lust. Jake still has issues with the Brenna and Saxons relationship and what they feel for one another. And it does not help that Saxon is a big flirt who seems to not be able to keep his hands to himself. It also does not help that while away Brenna writes an essay about being in love. Twice.
I am keeping my fingers crossed for a book4 because i felt like this book kinda ended abruptly and left me with questions. Book 4 Please!;)

I was charmed by Brenna in Double Clutch. She impressed me with her head on her shoulders, her feet solidly planted on the ground. So I was completely taken aback with the turn of events in BOOK TWO. I recall feeling her that reasons were a cop out to getting what she wanted at the expense of another. Now, a couple of moths later, I’m happy to report that SLOW TWITCH brings back a little of my admiration for her in DC. So Slow Twitch might not be as good as book one but it’s a far cry better from Book two.
I enjoyed how each of them got a chance reveal more of themselves even when these revelations were done reluctantly. Things got done in this book and it allowed me the opportunity to get a clearer picture of why Brenna was the way she was. Still, I have to say that my favorite moments were of Saxon: a little less the bad boy, he was turning into something so different from what I’d come accustomed to in the first books. I felt satisfied with his outcome… which is not precisely what I felt for the other two of this not-quite-love triangle.
I was confused by Jake because the same issues I had with him in the past crept up a little, but I wasn’t as bothered. Perhaps this is because in this he read more authentic. Jake and his insecurities even Brenna and her need to be who she was and her need to decide what she felt, felt less forced to me. Maybe because it’s been a couple of months since I read the last one and now I’d become used to their personalities? Basically, they all felt like persons /personalities to me instead of people just spouting of justifications/excuses.
It’s an OK end to a series whose start had me excited. The “me, me, me” bent I attributed to Brenna personality after BOOK Two has been blunted now. I think I know her more… and maybe even like her (just not all the time.)

Liz Reinhardt is amazing, there's no question about that!!
I loved the first 2 books in this series, but somehow, Liz managed to surpass these with Slow Twitch!!
I couldn't put it down. I LOVED everything about this book, we get to hear the voices of Jake and Saxon as well as Brenna's. This was so refreshing and being inside the lads heads made me feel completely emotionally connected to the characters and the story line!!
Jake and Saxon went through a bit of a role reversal which strengthened their characters and helped them grow and Saxon....well he just blew me away, he nearly made me cry!!!
I don't want to give anything away but know that this book is FAB-U-LUSH, so beautifully written, so real, so emotional and so YUMMY!!!
I could never pick a team in the previous 2 books..I love both Saxon and Jake and this book made no difference at all so I'm going to have both LOL!!
I really hope there will be more Brenna, Jake and Saxon because I need to know what happens next...especially after how things were left at the end of this one!!!

I don't know what to say about this one. I liked the change in Saxon, but I liked the bad boy from the beginning. I got weird feelings about this one. I can't put my finger on it. I will probably read the next one. Loved the first two books, this one is so so.

Overall I loved this series! Took me back to y high school days and I can definitely relate. I'd love to find out where they are all in the future, but this journey was definitely worth the read.

I give this book 4 mushy stars. Fans of this series will be content with this final book in the series. Although not as good as the first two,, I love these characters and am so sad that their stories are over (perhaps a spin off for Saxon is on Liz's to write lists? :). I know she will be writing a spin off following Evan Lennox's character - who Brenna met in and became best friends with in Ireland in this installment). This book was wonderful, and felt like an old friend. In fact, I hugged my kindle more than once while reading. This book, although it could probably stand alone, would not mean nearly as much without reading the first two installments (which were both fantastic and were given 5 stars by me).
In Slow Twitch, we get the POV's from not just Brenna (as in the first two books, Double Clutch and Junk Miles ) but from Jake and Saxon as well, in alternating chapters. And, I have to say, this REALLY worked for this book. I am not always a fan of the alternate chapters with different POV's, but since these three are so connected to each other, but very individual characters, it really worked. I especially loved Saxon's POV. Liz Reinhardt did the right thing by teasing her readers a few months back with Saxon's first chapter.
All three main characters, Brenna, Jake and Saxon are trying to figure out who they are, during the summer after Brenna meets Jake and Saxon. They all go through their own anxsty self discovery, which of course affects the relationships of all three characters, and it is great for the reader to see them growing up. This book was missing a bit of a story arc, but it really didn't matter to me,,, I ate this one up and will be thinking about it for some time.

This book is a little different than the first two that Ms Reinhardt has written and I have to admit that at times I liked it and times I didn't. This third installment is written in all three main characters, Brenns, Jake and Saxons POV. I liked this book- maybe not quite as much as one and two but simply because I feel like it ended abruptly and I feel somewhat at a loss because so many things are left up in the air. I really hope that she is planning a fourth book but so far have not found anything to indicate that. This book starts out with Brenna, Jake and Saxon separated. Brenna is in Ireland, Jake in NY getting to know his biological father/family and Saxon has been forced out his safe haven to his Aunts house - sort of rehab due to getting out of control with drugs and alcohol. I don't want to give too much away, but this book does have new characters introduced-one being Candece, Saxon's new love interest. I found myself struggling to like her because even though I want Jake and Brenna together, I feel like Saxton belongs with her too... Reading this series has definitely left me on an emotional roller coaster and I feel a little sad- again because so many things have been left unsaid. Hopefully another book will be out soon that will wrap this saga up and leave me with a warm and fuzzy HEA feeling.

It took me a freaking week but I finally finished this book. Even though I really enjoyed reading it, I can't say it was my favorite book of the trilogy. I guess I was kind of confused by some things and also disappointed.
So Slow Twitch is told by the three main characters' POV. So after doing drugs, getting drunk almost everyday and wrecking his life, Saxon will be spending his summer out of the city in his aunt Helen's house, working in a diner. Helpless and fucked up, Saxon meets the most amazing, smartest and hottest girl in the world. Bad luck she is his boss' daughter and totally dislikes him. Will he change for a girl? And what about whatever-his-feelings-are for Brenna?
While Saxon suffers in Lori, a little town out of Sussex County, Brenna spends a couple of weeks in Ireland where she hangs with a new and extremely handsome Devon and her new, wild and gorgeous best friend Evan. Even though Brenna is having so much fun, she's a bit scared her boyfriend Jake Kelly, will change. Because he's spending the summer in his dad's house with all his phony and pretentious family. Will they change? It's the last summer before their senior year, at least for The Macleans brothers.
More secrets, some screw ups and a lot of romance, Slow Twitch is the last and final book of the Brenna Blixen series.

#3 and it does NOT disappoint! I read all three books in 4 days because I literally could not get enough of the characters. First two books I was very wishy washy on whether I was "Team Jake" or "Team Saxon" and it just happens that when I read the essay that Brenna wrote I could completely understand where she stood. Love twice over. Exactly what I could see her feeling, but regardless her love for Jake was/is so evident. Young love is so exciting and reminds those of us that aren't in high school anymore what love should be like. Exciting, emotional, trusting, scary, consuming, and whole heart'd. I think this is something that is lost in "love" as you grow up... it was nice to be reminded of what it should be. I could sense all the emotions of young love from all three books, but I could really feel the pull in Slow Twitch.
I know Liz has said she plans to add more books the series and I am holding on to hope that she does! This is defiantly on my "LOVE THIS SERIES" list... and I reallllly reallllly want to see where these characters can grow,develop and end up... So in an effort to persuade, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE don't wait too long to add to Brenna,Jake,Saxon (and Evan)'s stories... it has become my reading drug... so much unanswered, so much left unturned, so much left to discover.

I'm done.
I want to cry. Somehow I managed to get completely addicted to these characters and now that it's over I feel empty and sad. These books were the ultimate guilty pleasure for me and I loved every minute of it. I wasn't thrilled that this book was told from all 3 points of view, but I get it. I get why Liz did it. The thing I loved most about this series was how we saw Brenna grow. Her voice in this book is so different from Double Clutch. It reminds me of the Jenny Han summer series. Belly really grows throughout those books and I love that.
I love that this book wasn't afraid to go in to details on ...ahem.. certain things. It was definitely for an older crowd. I love reading YA fiction, but sometimes it's just too childish for me, so these really appealed to me and they just kept getting better. I would not be mad if Liz wrote another Brenna book. ;)

The structure of the book. Instead of being only Brenna's POV, we got inside the minds of Saxon and Jake as well.

Jake was portrayed as a quietly confident, smart guy in the previous two books ... but here, when listening in, the author made him simple and that really disappointed me
Saxon was everything you expect - crass, honest and cocky.
Then there was Brenna's friend Evan. Likeable but urgh, only in small doses please
I almost put the book down half way through because I seemed rather ... dull. I sat debating what to do with it

Slow Twitch is the third book in Liz Reinhardt’s Brenna Blixen series – and it’s beyond amazing. For starters, this book is written from 3 different perspectives. Thank you baby Jesus, we finally get into the heads of Saxon and Jake, as well as Brenna in this book! This makes the story that much more dimensional, but also that much HOTTER! The steam factor finally hit full blown force in this book – and I couldn’t be happier about that.
This book starts out during the summer. All 3 friends are separated – Saxon was caught dealing drugs, and to avoid another “failed” stint in rehab, he’s been shipped off to stay with family and work in their diner; Jake is staying in uppity New York trying to get to know the Macleans; Brenna is in Ireland studying abroad.
Before I go on much more, I must quickly mention Miss Evan Lennox. Brenna meets her upon her arrival in Ireland – and she’s just a freaking blast! She is crazy, funny, up and down and all over the place. It’s nearly impossible to keep up with her – yet you want to. And the good news is – soon, we’ll get to be all up in her business because she’s getting her own story! HALLELUJAH! Fall Guy should be coming out in the next month. It’s going to be super fantastic, I already know this!
Okay, back to Slow Twitch. Saxon meets Cadence Erikson at the diner – she’s one of the owners’ daughters. I love Cadence. She puts Saxon in his place immediately and makes him second guess even his own game. She’s tough as nails (or so she gives off that vibe) and Saxon’s got it BAD for her. This summer has changed all three main characters in the biggest way. They aren’t the same kids we met in Double Clutch at all. They’ve all made huge mistakes, fallen down, found and lost love and celebrated huge successes. There were a lot of role reversals this time around. It felt like they all swapped their past personas for someone else’s!
For the first time, we see Saxon actually wanting to be a better guy. He wants to live up to what he knows he’s capable of – and this indentured servitude he’s stuck in helps him get there. Jake has gone through a change while staying with his family at their ridiculous mansion for the better part of the summer. While he did some things he wasn’t proud of, he also knows once and for all he never wants to be those people. Blood related or not, he has no interest in living that lifestyle. For Brenna, I’d say the biggest change I noticed in her was her insecurities. Never before had she seemed jealous or unsure of herself. We see this here in a few different instances. First when she’s at the Maclean mansion and she realizes they look down their noses at her. While it didn’t bother Jake to be looked down upon (he was more used to that response), Brenna couldn’t stand it, no matter how hard she tried. Also, when Saxon expresses his super like, close to love feelings for Cadence, Brenna gets a pretty big slice of jealous pie. For so long, she’s had both those boys wrapped around her finger. Now Saxon is moving on.
Saxon, Jake and Brenna have been forced to face their pasts, but also try to plan for their futures. This was a huge part of this storyline. Confronting past demons, and trying to figure out how to move on from them. I will say that this book definitely changed my opinion of Saxon and I’m so happy for that. I was super glad to see him grab some happiness! :) The evolution of all of their relationships is awesome in this story, but I was definitely most happy to see Jake and Saxon not wanting to kill each other the entire time. They are brothers, after all!
This book – just like the others – was very realistic. I feel so emotionally invested in these characters that each time I’ve read the series, it feels like catching up with old friends. I constantly remind myself that they are not real. ha. There is no filler fluff in this story like you will often find in high school romances. Liz writes so honestly – and honesty for a lot of high schoolers is that they do stupid shit – the hook up, they drink, they smoke, they swear. Doesn’t make them bad kids. Just makes them kids. She accomplished that truth in this series so wonderfully!
Technically, this was such a perfect wrap up to this series – however, I think (and super, duper hope) that we haven’t seen the last of these kids yet. There is certainly more we could experience with all of them and boy, would I love that!
I give Slow Twitch 4.5 stars and because I’ve read this series so many times now, as well as some of Liz’s other work, I can say with absolute certainty that I will always recommend Liz’s books. She is beyond fabulous at capturing her characters’ voices, writing believable and honest storylines that have you so far sucked in from page one, there’s no hope for you getting out. Look for more updates for what Liz has coming up soon – as well as the much anticipated release of Fall Guy.
Slow Twitch is the third book in Liz Reinhardt’s Brenna Blixen series – and it’s beyond amazing. For starters, this book is written from 3 different perspectives. Thank you baby Jesus, we finally get into the heads of Saxon and Jake, as well as Brenna in this book! This makes the story that much more dimensional, but also that much HOTTER! The steam factor finally hit full blown force in this book – and I couldn’t be happier about that.
This book starts out during the summer. All 3 friends are separated – Saxon was caught dealing drugs, and to avoid another “failed” stint in rehab, he’s been shipped off to stay with family and work in their diner; Jake is staying in uppity New York trying to get to know the Macleans; Brenna is in Ireland studying abroad.
Before I go on much more, I must quickly mention Miss Evan Lennox. Brenna meets her upon her arrival in Ireland – and she’s just a freaking blast! She is crazy, funny, up and down and all over the place. It’s nearly impossible to keep up with her – yet you want to. And the good news is – soon, we’ll get to be all up in her business because she’s getting her own story! HALLELUJAH! Fall Guy should be coming out in the next month. It’s going to be super fantastic, I already know this!
Okay, back to Slow Twitch. Saxon meets Cadence Erikson at the diner – she’s one of the owners’ daughters. I love Cadence. She puts Saxon in his place immediately and makes him second guess even his own game. She’s tough as nails (or so she gives off that vibe) and Saxon’s got it BAD for her. This summer has changed all three main characters in the biggest way. They aren’t the same kids we met in Double Clutch at all. They’ve all made huge mistakes, fallen down, found and lost love and celebrated huge successes. There were a lot of role reversals this time around. It felt like they all swapped their past personas for someone else’s!
For the first time, we see Saxon actually wanting to be a better guy. He wants to live up to what he knows he’s capable of – and this indentured servitude he’s stuck in helps him get there. Jake has gone through a change while staying with his family at their ridiculous mansion for the better part of the summer. While he did some things he wasn’t proud of, he also knows once and for all he never wants to be those people. Blood related or not, he has no interest in living that lifestyle. There was no big, perfect pink eraser to run over all our screw-ups. Even if there was, I knew from years of sketching that even the best erasers leave faint traces of the marks you’d made underneath. Our histories weren’t made to be ignored or run away from.

Confused
This book felt so different from the rest. Not only do we now get the POV of Saxon and Jake, but I feel like we got a new author. Completely felt like someone else wrote this story that it bugged me for half of the book. Then I got over it and got into the mood...but that ending. It wasn't an ending. Where are the rest? Or will there be anymore. I'm not even remotely satisfied with that ending.

The finale of the Brenna Blixen series.
A little more developed than book #2 Junk Miles, and it wraps up the love triangle and all the issues quite nicely.
