Wanita May grew up in the fruit belt of Ontario - St.Catharines. Crazy-happy childhood, she always has had a vivid imagination and loads of energy.
The youngest of six -- four older brothers, and a sister -- taught her at a young age to be competitive in all aspects of life.
At sixteen, she began competing in athletics (track and field) and before she turned seventeen, she was representing Canada in high jump. She continued to compete, breaking Canada's JR High Jump record (1.92m - 6' 3 1/2" for those metric-ly challenged). She attented University of Toronto, and Kansas State University - winning CIAU's and becoming All-American 6x - NCAA Indoors Runner Up + more.
But you're not interested in her athletic career - unless of course you're curious to know she stands 1.70m (5'7") and has jumped 20cm over her head on more than one occassion. She's represented Canada at the World Championships, World Jrs., won Francophone Games, and loved every minute of every competition. From the grueling workouts, the crazy weights she lifted on her back, the days she thought her lungs were going to spit out of her mouth for lack of oxygen, the travelling around the world and the opportunity to read - her favourite past time.
Life continued with her husband (a distance runner from Liverpool, UK, who she met at KSU) and then their first, then second and finally third child. Their house became full of more imagination and stories.
Wanita and her husband run an online business, dealing in antiques and collectables - particularly jewelry and porcelain (one of the business' website: www.wadeincanada.com ).
After her father passed away in 2009, from a six-year battle with cancer (which she still believes he won the fight against), she began to write again. A passion she'd loved for years, but realized life was too short to keep putting it off.
Her first book, Rae of Hope - from the Chronicles of Kerrigan - will be available October 2011 by kNight Romance Publishing.
She is currently represented by Dawn Dowdle of Blue Ridge Literary Agency. Wanita is a writer of Young Adult, Fantasy Fiction and where ever else her little muses take her.
I so loved this story! W.J. May is an incredibly creative and captivating writer. I loved every minute of reading this book and could see myself reading it many times over.
I loved all the characters! Molly took a min to grow on me but when she did she became like a fungus you would rather chop your arm off them then get rid of.
I LOVED the ending! I could have never have seen it coming! The bad guys were totally sneaky and the good guys soooo not who you thought they were.
I can't wait to read the next book! If you haven't read this series yet I highly recommend it!
This anthology is made up of four books by W.J. May and and excerpt from another book. I really enjoyed these books and will continue reading the series that they each belongs to. "Rae of Hope" was my favorite and is definitely a five star page turner, "Shadow of Doubt - Part 1" was my second favorite and is definitely worth four and a half stars", "Seventh Mark - Part 1 and "Radium Halos" are four star books, and "Courage Runs Red" is hard to rate since it wasn't a complete book/story. Each book had a very interesting and likeable main character and a lot of great support characters. Each book drew me in just by the small blurb about each of them. W.J. May definitely knows how to draw you into the story and the world of YA paranormal and romance.
I was skeptical about this book at first due to it being a free E-book on Amazon when I purchased it, but after reading this book I have definitely found a new author to follow and anxiously await a new story or sequel from her. I'm going out this weekend to buy all these books in hard form and picking up the sequels also. I definitely would recommend this book to anyone that enjoys books about the paranormal, romance or young adult genres . This is definitely a great book to introduce you to the world of W.J. May!
I loved this anthology of stories. Author W.J. May had done a wonderful job creating these worlds in each story. I think the first two stories are my favorite, Rae of Hope - the Chronicles of Kerrigan and Seventh Mark part 1 - The Hidden Secrets Saga. The author includes a different genre in each story, fantasy, paranormal and romance, and all from different series.
The narrator Andrea Emmes has done a fabulous job. I've listened to alot of the stories she's narrated and this one is by far my favorite. This box set really tests Andrea's skills and talent. I feel like these stories really shows her outstanding performance. I love all the accents she gives each character especially in Rae of Hope The Chronicles of Kerrigan and Seventh Mark Part 1- The Hidden Secrets Saga. I think this is Andrea's best work yet. She really brings life to these stories.
I found myself looking on Audible to see which stories I already own and the ones I need. I will be honest and let the author know that its hard for anyone to use a credit to purchase a story that's just an hour to 3 hrs long. The author should write stories that are atleast 6 hours long. This is just my opinion. I will also recommend that you purchase this audio, Four and a Half Shades of Fantasy... This anthology id definitely worth a credit! I absolutely LOVED it!
Four and a Half Shades of Fantasy by W.J. May was a good collection of stories. All of the stories are the first parts of series. Rae of Hope was a great story of a girl finding out about her family secrets while learning about the new powers she is gaining. Seventh Mark was a good read about a girl finding answers about her past. Shadow of Doubt part one was a great read about finding love even when everything seems to be against you. Radium Haloes part one was a great story about how the unexpected can make you extraordinary. This collection also contained an excerpt of Courage Runs Red. This was a great collection of stories. I can't wait to read more by W.J. May.
Although this set was a taster for the author's huge collection of books, and although the plots were interesting and somewhat different from the usual, the appallingly awful proofreading was enough to make me give it three stars, which would have been two and a half were that option available. I won't be following up any of the books May has written, not because I'm not interested, but because the published standard of the books is terrible.
This is an anthology of some of the author’s work, and each book made me immediately want to purchase the second book to continue the story. The characters are all well-written, which is key to a great book. I can’t wait to read more of her work!
1. Rae is a young girl learning about herself and the secrets in her family. 2. Rogue is trying to find out about herself and her past. 3. Is about forbidden love 4. About 6 people who during a storm, finds shelter in a mine and developes strange powers.
There was a problem with the e-book where it couldn't load chapters near the end of the first story and I didn't have the patients to wait five minutes every time I wanted to read. The first story, Rae of Hope was good, the remainder that I read, not so much.
some stories were very interesting however others seemed like they were written by a new author who had no clue what they were doing. it was very inconsistent
I loved the RAE OF HOPE it was a very good book which pulled you into teens finding out they had power. Rae didn’t know this and is blindsided when she found out that her father was evil and wanted to take over the world. She was viewed more or less like a freak since they had no idea with both her parents having powers which one she would get or if hers would be more than they had. This one held my attention with all Rae was going through, dealing with as she found out who the truly evil was. I am so looking forward to reading more of this series.
SEVENTH MARK I just never connected with it was just a blur where it all kind of ran together and the story did not interest me at all. Nothing grabbed me and the author totally lost me.
SHADOW OF DOUBT the same I never connected with it was just a blur where it all kind of ran together and the story did not interest me at all. Nothing grabbed me and the author totally lost me.
For the last two books I never knew when I went from one into the other. It was like it was all one story and wow when did it changed.
Radium Halos a very interesting listen for no longer than it was. I would be interesting to listen to more of this one as well. They get caught up in a storm in a mine when lighten strikes in the room they are held up in they change. The rest of the book is finding out how they changed and the effects from those changes. Trying to control the powers they have along with helping those that need help.
Andrea Emmes did a wonderful job with narrating this audio. Her voice were even that flowed so smooth. The different voices were outstanding. I didn’t even know when she changed from one book to another. The issues I have with this book has nothing at all to do with her. If she took a break I could not tell it sounded like she did all the reading at one setting. I totally enjoyed listening to her voice and her narrating this audio.
The only problem I had with this audio was with each chapter they said the title of the book which made it hard to tell when one book had end and another one started. With the 2nd and 3rd book I didn’t even know until we were way in the 3rd one that it had changed. I feel if the author would have just had the title at the beginning of reach new book it would have been better. I just found the title with each chapter just got on my nerves. I thought the author gave great characters the first and last book I really got into. They were interesting stories where the one on shadows I just never understood and the author totally lost me. The first and last book in this set was well worth the listen. I look forward to reading more of these two book. I enjoyed the first and last one so much I am giving this a 4 star.
Four and a Half Shades of Fantasy is a very good set of books of introducing the readers to four existing series and the fifth being a new upcoming series. This box set includes Rae of Hope (The Chronicales of Kerrigan), Seventh Mark Part 1 (The Hidden Secrets Saga), Shadow of Doubt Part 1, Radium Halos (The Senseless Chronicles), and Courage Runs Red (Blood Red Series).
Rae of Hope reminds me of the Harry Potter series. Rae Kerrigan has no idea of her family history until she attend Guilder Boarding School in England. Upon her sixteen birthday, she will receive a tatoo which may determine whether she is her father's daughter or her mother's. Her father has left a dark legacy and has followers even after his death, are trying to reinvent the world in their own design. It is the beginning of whether Rae's power will lead to darkness or will it be the light against the darkness of her father's legacy.
Seventh Mark is about Rogue. Rogue has never knew her parents. Upon meeting the siblings, Grace and Michael, Rogue feels that there is a connection between her past and Grace and Michael. The only thing is does Rogue wants to be part of Grace and Michael's world.
Shadow of Doubt is a story of Erebus and Aurora. Erebus is a mythical being while Aurora is a mortal that Erebus shouldn't have feelings for. No goods will come from a relationship between an immortal being and a mortal. To protect Aurora, Erebus kept his past from Aurora until she wanted more from their relationship.
Radium Halos is about five teenager friends inheriting powers from an uranium mine during a thunderstorm. Each of the five discovered that one of their five senses are sharpen and their agility are more agile than before. All five friends are going to test their limitations.
Courage Runs Red is a new series, Blood Red. The excerpt doesn't give much away except that the young detective has an uncanny ability to stop crime. The excerpt makes me wonder if the detective is a vampire.
This set of books teases the readers to want to know more about the characters and what will happen next. It is a good introduction to five different series. Out of this series, Rae of Hope is my favorite.
Andrea Emmes is a wonderful narrator. I love her voice in the narration of all five books. However when listening to her voice, I would strongly recommend to listen to one series at a time or leave a time integral. After awhile, the characters from the different series will sounds too much alike.
I was given this audiobook by the author/narrator/publisher via Audiobook Blast in exchange for an honest review. I was not compensated or influence in any way for writing this review.
Rae of Hope (3 stars) I give three stars (more 2.5) because it almost felt like a complete story. Rae is a young girl orphaned by tragedy. She goes to live family who has kept a family secret of inherited powers from her which she is sent off to a special school to learn about. She gets an awesome tatu (powers are linked to the tattoo), is loved by everyone but must rise above her father’s sins.
Seventh Mark (1 star) Seemed more like a prologue. Bits and pieces of information are given about what kind of creatures Michael and his family is (this is not clarified although from the synopsis I gather that they’re supposed to be werewolves). Michael and Grace (his sister) is over 100 years old they should be better at identifying “grollics” (some type of monster) and know more about their ways but it took the whole book for Rouge (a human) to deduce that Damon is a grollic. I knew that from the night of the party.
Shadow of Doubt part 1 (1 star) This is just senseless rambling about Erebus (a shadow – who are nocturnal creatures) trying to date a human. This is forbidden. Why is this forbidden? What is a shadow’s purpose? Another half story with no plot. No ex girlfriend shows up as is alluded to by the synopsis.
Radium Halos (1 star) Some friends shelter from a storm in an abandoned uranium mine. The following day they begin experiencing changes in their senses. They all develop heightened sense of hearing, smell, touch, feeling and sight each (“raised eyebrows”). At a diner they save a waitress from being gang raped and make a decision to hone their skills to become town heroes. According to the blurb. “strange occurrences happening in their little town. Muggings, break-ins, disappearances, and murder begin to hit too close to home. It leads the team to think someone knows about their secret – someone who wants them all dead. An incredulous group of heroes. A traitor in their midst. Some dreams are written in blood. “ No other strange occurrences and events mentioned in tale.
Courage Runs Red (2 stars) An accident a few years ago has changed Kallie and her family’s life forever. Her father is now a “red blood” vampire and seems to be in trouble. She tries to get help from Liam a “blue blood’’ vampire. With her father, Liam and Caleb (a red blood) keeping information from her (for her own protection) something is amiss.
These stories are for the younger audience. The only one with a little potential is the last one.
about the first book in this ebook. Loved the story of Rae very much. Great to see her discover herself and find herself in the first year on this special school. Great to see she most times looks at life in a positive way. Can so see the guys behaving like it is described in this book. And how cool to have a tatú like the one she gets, a fairy with glitters on her wings, wow.
The second book was not really my thing. I was still doubting if I wanted to read more or not when the book ended. Actually the whole book seems like a prologue for more. With this part I actually don't know what it is about. I know that they are not human and they have enemies. I am curious in what way rouge is connected and why her 18 birthday could be special
The third book was also a starter. Not sure what to think about a shadow. Guess I prefer vampires. Poor Erebus for finding a woman who he is falling in love with, but knowing he has to end it. Speaking of endings, I didn't like the open ending of this book.
The fourth book was about high school friends getting super powers after spending time in a mine while lightning strucks. Bit strange, but an okay read. Especially when they safe the waitress. I am wondering what kieran has to do with this since he is the only one without special powers after that night
conclusion to many open endings with those 4 books
Four and a Half Shades of Fantasy is an anthology of supernatural themed stories, some I loved and some I didn't. I can say that they were all worth listening to once though.
Rae of Hope was my absolute favourite and I will go on to read the rest of the series. I couldn't put that one down and was absolutely intrigued with where the author was going. I did get a big Harry Potter feel but i didn't mind it. It was great. I also really enjoyed Seventh Mark which was completely different but still in a supernatural theme. I will be purchasing the second book as I can't wait to see how it ends. Shadow of Doubt and Radium Halos were interesting but I didn't love them. I did love the sample book and am keen to get my hands on that.
Overall this is a great author who does integrate completely different story lines and characters into each of these books. She writes in a captivating way which I really enjoyed. These stories are designed for teens and young adults but I had no problem enjoying them and I am a few years beyond that.
Maybe 2.5 or 3 stars, I'm not sure. I didn't really like it.. but there were some things I think I liked..
Interesting. But I won't be spending more time in this world. The story didn't appeal to me as much as I wanted it to. I don't like reading books where out of the blue power splashes the pages and we've no choice but to accept the (out of the blue) overwhelmingly powerful heroine or hero. It is also alluded to several times the height of power a character has and yet the scenes in which power is bandied about the power plays are confusing to digest and very abrupt. All that build up for an uninteresting and unsizzling climax. The flow is too fast paced. The months really flew by in here. So much so they were written several times, November bleeds to December, blah turns to blah yaddah yah, now it's 4, 6 months, new year. Nothing happens really in this story. Overall, interesting but I won't be continuing.
