“We’re working on a plan to track Belaisle.” Apollo said. “But we still haven’t hammered out all the details.”
“Please,” I said, “at least tell me you’ll read me in before you run off and get yourself killed.”
Apollo grinned. “Oh, Syd,” he said. “I knew you cared. Don’t worry, princess. Your knight in shining armor will make it all better.”
I laughed out loud and punched his arm. He winced, rubbing the spot.
“I mean it.” I jabbed a finger at Owen. “You, too. I’m counting on you to keep Mr. Mysterious here from making a mess.”
Owen saluted. “Aye, aye, captain.”
Boys.
Unable to track the pieces of Creator without the assistance of her son, Gabriel, and the gates he’s able to open to the veil, Syd instead uses every resource to discover how the Brotherhood leader, Liander Belaisle, is tracking her. When her friend, Charlotte, approaches Syd about the wereking and his enduring hatred for all vampires, Syd uncovers a dangerous alliance that could mean the disastrous exposure of all paranormals to humankind.
I write a lot of paranormal books for someone who is afraid of the dark. And I wonder why I have to sleep with the lights on. Sometimes life is a teenaged B horror movie and I'm the one who investigates when the scary music is playing. But the voices are calling and resistance is… Yes. I am a Star Trek geek, too. And a fan of RPG’s. With a slight coolness factor since I've been told I'm allowed to join the pops.
In this book we find Syd all grown up with kids of her own. As usual her personal world is colliding with her magical world. As the coven leader now she is in charge of keeping the peace between all the supernaturals and find out the threat of the brotherhood. All the while trying to figure out how the Brotherhood leader Liander Belaisle is tracking her. Then there is the whole wereking emergency. Charlotte comes to her and tells her about the Danilo's plans and his hatred for all vampires. Which leads Syd to uncover a very dangerous alliance. Which could endanger all paranormals and exposure to the humankind. All in a days work for a strong witch oh yeah and put her family back together. What more could a woman do and will everyone survive.
Pattie did it again, this is an action packed book. We have witches, vampires, werewolves oh and dragons on every page. I feel like I have watched Syd grow up from a teenager that just wanted to be normal, to a woman who is strong and courageous. Who will fight for those she loves but still has a heart. Pattie writes with such intensity, you can feel it in the pages. You can feel the anguish and the hatred and the love within every page. The story is very fast paced . You are taken from one side of the world to the other in a blink of an eye.
There are old characters and new characters. I just love Syd, she is such a woman that you do not want to mess with. She is one mother that will fight for everyone. Including her family. But Quaid is making that difficult. He is being such a pompous jerk. I kind a wanted to jump into the pages of the book and slap him upside the head. He needs to realize that Syd is there and even though she doesn't say it. She needs him and he needs her . All the characters are so well written, you know you are going to care about them and fall in love with them . Gabriel is such a sweet young boy and I hope that we get to hear more about this young man. He will be a strong light in Syd's life.
I am thinking that if you want an action packed book that is both a great read and a great series please check it out. If you like vampires, werewolves, witches and dragons check out this book .
*I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review* So one time I entered a giveaway on a blog for like 20 books and I won. (Yeah me!) One of those books was called FAMILY MAGIC and man was it good. So good in fact, I had to move on to all of the following books. And when I ran out of those I waited *patiently* each month for Patti to release a new book. I've been following Syd for almost 2 years now and as the story line has continued and I've followed along as Syd grew up I've never been disappointed. I feel like I personally know these characters. My heart aches when there is hurt or pain. I get that "I just want to slap the sh$@ out of you" feeling when a certain male character *coughquaidcough* acts like a complete d-bag. (its sooo hard not to post spoilers right now!) Watching Syd handle the world and all of its problems plus her own two children...whew! So much emotion in this one, there is. I NEED the next book! I have to know what happens after X.........X < it would be a spoiler so I can't say anything. I know I say this after I finish each book in the series but seriously...go to your favorite online eBook retailer and download book one FAMILY MAGIC. Its free! Get in on this series! Patti you are ah-maze-ing! Keep 'em coming and I'll keep reading! Sydlynn Hayle forever!
We've grown up right along with Syd through all the HCN series. We've loved those she loves, hated those who hurt her, and drop exhausted when she saves the world. Now she is truly grown up, with children of her own - struggles in life (some ordinary, some definitely NOT ordinary). As always, she kicks butt and zips on to the next crisis - making our heads spin wondering which time-zone, country, or plane she is on.
This book will see the end of one antagonist, the beginning of another, with a couple of surprising twists (oh come on...you're not surprised by this, are you?) that might leave you sitting with your mouth open in shock! I know I was trying to jump into the book and slap a few people around to get them to wake UP! The mark of a good book is when you get lost in the story, feeling as if you are PART of it all. Ha! This was definitely a good one!
I received this directly from the Author in return for a review. Not that I needed to necessarily, since I have bought every single book Patti Larsen has out there! And will continue buying them because, honestly?, she's about the best there is in this genre.
So come on - buy it - if this is your first experience with Syd...be prepared to buy all of the HCN books - because you WILL BE hooked.
I received a free copy of this in exchange for an honest review…
With that said…so when's the next one coming? I've been following Syd since she was a teen not wanting anything to do with the family "business" till now. I was so happy she got her happily ever after with Quaid, but what if it were different and her hubby didn't die? Sometimes I think that when Quaid's being "a hard-headed idiot." I get so sucked in to their world that sometimes when I look up from reading I have to think and remind myself where I'm at again. LOL! This installment sucks you in just like the rest of them. You can't help but feel the emotions the characters are going through. Sometimes I tell myself not to read it till most of the books are out, but I can't help it. I went through the first Hayle Coven Series pretty fast and now I must wait patiently along with other readers for the next installment. High praises for Syd for being able to juggle her position as a coven leader and as a mom. I love how you can totally relate to her as the main character with how crazy life can be. It's up-lifting and heart-breaking all at once leaving you wanting more.
The pages of these books seem to turn themselves and before I know it I am wishing the next book was out already. I guess the reason I enjoy these books so much is that I can easily identify with the main character (not about the magic and mayhem part) but about how she relates to family. Syd is the eldest in a family of strong women and is trying to do everything well yet sometimes failing the people she loves most. With the constant juggling of so many balls in the air I am amazed she is still standing and still trying to save the world. These stories always make me smile though I seriously want to smack some sense into her husband as he puts her through the emotional wringer time and time again. I do actually miss Liam as I think he was a better match for her but it was not to be. Never a dull minute and it is always fun to re-visit with Piers,Charlotte and Sunny in their attempts to defeat the Brotherhood.
No one includes a better mix of action, adventure, romance, and humor in one story than Patti Larsen and this installment of the Hayle Coven Destinies is no different. All aboard the usual "Syd rollercoaster" and we'll see if you're ready for the twists and turns The Brotherhood holds in store for you. Several races seem to have something up their sleeve this time and poor Syd doesn't even have time to catch her breath before the next curve ball is thrown her way. One thing is for sure, it's going to be a thrilling ride!!
I love Larsen's writing and characters and how easy it is to become immersed in the world(s) of her imagination. I not only recommend this book and series but anything written by her. You won't be disappointed. I received a complimentary copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.
You really outdid yourself this time Patti. I am sure all of us needed kleenex this time around too. I thought Syd and Quiad were going to make up. Instead he is an asshole like old times. Where is Liam when we need him? Andre got what was coming to him;)I really felt with Syd this time more than others. Her work is never done and her life is tough.I hope Belaisle gets his ass handed to him.I look forward to the next book.
The story of Syd's battle against Belaisle continues. There are still plenty of twists and turns, and Ms. Larsen's patented surprises. At no time have I ever even considered abandoning this series. Given the fact that I'm easily bored since I got older, this is quite an achievement. If you are considering reading this series, run to the beginning and start now.
