Constance Bennett wrote also as Connie Bennett. She lives in Tornado Alley and is certainly accustomed to the threat of tornadoes, that also she included in some novels.

A western romance set in mostly New Mexico in 1882. Two sisters, one an adopted Apache, are in their early 20’s living with their wealthy rancher parents. There is a tribe of Mescalero Apaches living on a reservation on the Verde Ranch as well. Skylar, the adopted daughter, learned much about her heritage from the Mescalero’s, but she was actually from another tribe. Her birth sister and birth parents had lost their lives when the little girl was taken and sold to Mexican slavers. Mr Templeton, the adoptive dad, had bought her from the slavers, and brought her home to be a sister to his only daughter.

Through a series of events too complicated to explain, Skylar gets rounded up (against her will) with the Mescalero’s to be sent off to one central reservation per new US government rules.

Sister Rayna goes off to Santa Fe to argue (unsuccessfully) for her sister’s return to her rancher family. Long story short, Rayna meets Meade, an army doctor 12 years her senior and it’s soon an enemies to lovers story. At the new reservation, Skylar meets Sun Hawk, son of the Chief and another romance begins.

How they all get back together makes up the bulk of this story in between with the heinousness of most of the soldiers in the American army.

Just okay, but as many of you know, I’m not much into romance. I can’t imagine how I ended up with this ebook. Must have been a freebie.
