I accidentally skipped over this one and read book 44 first; however, even though I didn’t know anything about the embezzler from this book and it was mentioned in book 44, the way JB writes it didn’t matter. I was caught up on what happened to Armani’s lottery winnings pretty quickly.

Yes, the books in this series can be read as stand-alones, but I suggest you read this entire series beginning with book 1. Why? Because the backstory makes it so much better! You get to see the growing relationship between Maggie and Delveccio and how she became a hitwoman in the first place. You get to see what happened between Maggie and Gino and also Maggie and Patrick (aka “Minty”).

You also see what happened to her sister and brother-in-law and her niece Katie. Yes, this is all mentioned in both books 43 and 44, but to get the in depth story you need to read it all. You discover that Maggie is kind of clutsy, but always gets her guy… or girl. She thinks outside of the box and is never afraid to speak her mind.

Maggie’s weakness, though, is her family and her friends. She can never tell them no and she is always the peacemaker with her wacky family members. I really wish she’d tell them no sometimes, because her family expects her to always take care of everything. Well, because she does. But it stresses her out and she rarely gets true rest.

And there’s a magical element to this series and that is Maggie’s ability to communicate with animals. Her brother Ian and her grandpa Herschel also understand animals. I sometimes suspect her mother Mary can also understand them, but it’s never confirmed. And I also suspect Katie, her little niece can understand them, but that isn’t ever confirmed either. Hopefully one day it is.

And one more thing that runs through my mind whenever I start a new book in this series is WHAT’S PISS’S REAL NAME?!

Next in this series is book 44, The Hitwoman Spirals. Since I already said I went backwards and read book 44 before this book 43, my next choice of a read is by Carolyn Brown who is my number one small town romance writer queen. I choose “Small Town Charm”. It’s a novella which means it’ll be a quick read of less than 100 pages. Can’t wait!

Hitwoman's friends help her friend

What a fun and fast paced book, packed with danger, loyal friends, and determination!
When Maggie Lee's friend Armani has all her lottery won fortune stolen from her, she asks Maggie help her get it back. With more twists than a tornado and a support team of a former criminal, her aunt's paramour, a mobster, a crooked cop, a lizard, a white mouse, a one eyed cat, a Doberman, and a teenage raccoon with attitude, Mags goes to battle with a credit card and her wits. The reaction that follows alternates from terror to laughter and nearly disbelief! How so much can be packed into one book?!

I have to say that this is one of my favorite books in this long running series. Awesome storytelling, excitement, and humor! I loved it! Can't wait for the next book!

Love, love, love this series!!

I stayed up all night to finish this book. I am addicted to this series. The characters are hysterical. Unique in every way. A mish mash of strong personalities that just somehow work. Maggie is the glue that holds this bunch together. They have formed a strong bond that in the crunch sees them through. The situations Maggie gets herself into are mind boggling. The nonhuman members of her crew are awesome! They are just as interesting and unique as the humans. I will impatiently await the next release.

animal helpers

The animals had their very own story it seemed like. So Maggie was all over in this one. I felt bad that she was trying to help everyone out and make sure they were okay. Everyone wants her attention and needs her to do something for them. Where does she get her me time. I love all of the friends and family she has but I haven’t seen one of them put her first.

Still miss Gino. Armani trusted the wrong person to invest with. She trusted the right person(s) for help in protecting herself. The question is will the help come before or after people die, possibly someone she love? Maggie Lee to the rescue. Though I feel Mike really should get most of the credit for success in the book. Boom. And DeeDee.

love these books

On to book 44 now. This is the most addictive series I’ve ever read. Maggie’s character is a bad ass in spite of herself! I’ll have to admit my favorite part of this series in the ongoing collection of animals that she rescues that help her by saving the day. God, Piss & the entire gang make the books!

Maggie is trying to help Armani find her missing money which leads to murder, adventure, & help from Mulligan. The pet menagerie and Nat are helping with mixed results in this entertaining fun read. I still miss Gino and I like how Delveccio looks out for Maggie more.

Fun madcap caper

I love this series. The weird turn of events Maggie gets into is hilarious. I'm waiting for Maggie to tell Nat she can speak to animals. That should be interesting.

Money causes chaos

Nothing like Armani bringing chaos to Maggie in an unexpected turn of events, you'd think having a password would keep everything safe! Great read. I do miss Gino though

Once again, JB hit it out of the park. Also, once again, it ended too soon! I can't get enough of Maggie and the Menagerie.

wonderful as always

The only bad thing I could say about any of these books is that I am sad when they end because I want to keep on reading. Absolutely love this series!

Loved!!!! I've always loved this series, but this is the best book yet! Maggie finds herself in difficulty when she tries it find her friend's embezzled money. Chaos ensues, along with murder and mayhem. Add in the talking animals and you've got an engaging tale with plenty of humor.

This one is a must read for fans of the genre. While part of a series, this is a stand alone novel. However, it's so good that you really owe it to yourself to read them all. The author is on my must read authors' list.
