Estaba en sus manos… ¡y fuera de control! Imposible, exasperante e irresistible.
Born in Visalia, California, I'm a small town girl at heart. I love central California's golden foothills, oak trees, and the miles of farmland. In my mind, there's nothing sweeter in the world than the heady fragrance of orange blossoms on a sultry summer night.
As a little girl I spent hours on my bed, staring out the window, dreaming of far off places, fearless knights, and happy-ever-after endings. In my imagination I was never the geeky bookworm with the thick coke-bottle glasses, but a princess, a magical fairy, a Joan-of-Arc crusader.
My parents fed my imagination by taking our family to Europe for a year when I was thirteen. The year away changed me (I wasn't a geek for once!) and overseas I discovered a huge and wonderful world with different cultures and customs. I loved everything about Europe, but felt especially passionate about Italy and those gorgeous Italian men (no wonder my first very Presents hero was Italian).
I confess, after that incredible year in Europe, the travel bug bit, and bit hard. I spent much of my high school and college years abroad, studying in South Africa, Japan and Ireland. South Africa remains a country of my heart, the people, the land and politics complex and heart-wrenching.
After my years of traveling and studying I had to settle down and earn a living. With my Bachelors degree from UCLA in American Studies, a program that combines American literature and American history, I've worked in sales and marketing, as well as a director of a non-profit foundation. Later I earned my Masters in Writing from the University of San Francisco and taught jr. high and high school English.
I now live in Seattle and Hawaii with my three sons. I never mind a rainy day, either, because that's when I sit at my desk and write stories about far-away places, fascinating people, and most importantly of all, love. I like a story with a happy ending. We all do.
The title of this story is misleading. This isn't a workplace romance - it's a patient/nurse romance - something I don't usually like. Thankfully, the heroine is an administrator of home health care nurses and doesn't directly nurse the hero past a few days. From there a physical therapist takes over and the heroine finds herself being the reason for the hero to push himself to walk again after surviving a helicopter mishap and the avalanche that killed his brother and friends.
Jane Porter always throws in some interesting details that make me remember her stories. In this case, the heroine's backstory. (She was an immensely wealthy debutante when she married her gold digger Greek husband. He smeared her name when she wanted a divorce after all of his cheating. She then went to nursing school, started a business and went by her mother's maiden name.)
There is also a remote Greek restaurant the H takes her to - and they don't get to eat their meal. The hero's gesture at the end it so bring the staff of the restaurant to cater a meal at the heroine's flat.
While I believed the romance, I didn't believe that the hero would walk again after two weeks. The whole compressed timeline was unnecessary. Also unnecessary - the weird blackmail plot the hero's brother's fiance and nurse friend plotted against him. It was never really explained or resolved. The coincidence of running into the h's ex at one of the hero's houses was also a little too pat. With those quibbles aside, this story had enough original details to keep me reading.

I sometimes struggle with Jane Porter books. I thought I would give this one a go, because of all the great reviews. It was a great storyline, but I find that it lacked depth. She just left way too many things open and hanging.
This story shows that money can’t buy everything….well material things yes, but love and happiness –NO!!! Kristian Koumantaros and Elizabeth Hatchett both come from a world where money buys you everything. He is a Greek millionaire who now lives in isolation after he lost his friend and close friends in a helicopter accident which he was piloting. He is blind, wheelchair bound and makes everyone’s life around him absolute hell. She is the owner of a nursing firm and has come to help him heal. She hides the previous life she led of an American empty-headed socialite, who married a Greek gold-digger who made her life hell, and has since divorced him and changed her name and moved to England to live a quiet life. It’s a wonderful story. Set in beautiful Greece (one of my favorite settings), it’s filled with humor – I love the dialogue between Kristian and Eve when they first meet….it shows how one can overcome obstacles in our lives by just trusting and loving someone in your life I love Jane Porter’s books. She’s a fabulous writer.
The storyline was like any other. But coming across his quote I was disappointed in both the writer and the publishers. Surely in this day and age there it is not beyond the realms of possibility that an American nurse might be of African, Asian or Hispanic descent? To imply otherwise is sheer laziness, and worse, racial discrimination.
"He listened to her footsteps, trying to imagine her age. He’d played this game with all the nurses. Since he couldn’t see, he created his own visual images. And, listening to Elizabeth Hatchet’s voice and footsteps, he began to create a mental picture of her.Age? Thirty-something. Maybe close to forty. Brunette, redhead, black-haired or blonde”
This Is a re-read from a few years, was a light story with a predictable solution, but I like the interaction between h and H. Kristian is grumpy and hopeless but you can understand why, he has a lot issues that I would have liked to explore further.
I love Jane Porter's chick lit books and wanted to sample one of her Harlequin Presents. I used to read these in the early 80s and loved them. My taste has changed since then, but HP hasn't. And my primary issues with the book are simply issues that are present because it's a HP book.
I did have problems with medical impossibilities. After more than a year in a wheelchair, unable to walk, he is walking with a cane in two weeks! Sorry, that just wouldn't happen. Even given he's been swimming for a couple of weeks, his legs would require a lot more physical therapy. It's not just "mind over matter" as the hero accomplished it.
Much of the book's conflict happens simply because they don't explain things that really aren't secrets. If they'd just communicated some of it, the conflict wouldn't have existed. And there was no important reason not to explain, they simply kept it to themselves.
I liked the second half of the book much more, and the sex was sizzling. And I loved the ending, which left me in no doubt that the hero loves her dearly.
From rags to riches... the Hollywood bride! Love-'em-and-leave-'em leading man Wolf Kerrick is never out of the headlines. This time the sexy Spanish superstar has outdone himself: he's taken Alexandra, an unknown, ordinary girl, and turned her first into an overnight celebrity, then into his Hollywood bride! But all the glitz and glamour of their lavish wedding is tarnished by a dirty secret -- and if the tabloids ever find out, there'll be shock waves throughout the world...
When I first heard what the title of the book was going to be I actually thought yuck! However, the title really depicts the storyline and let me tell you it's just another wonderful Jane Porter book. It's full of heat, a ton of ups and downs and once I began reading the book I read it well into the wee hours of the morning. Jane is such an incredible author and this book is wonderful!
Left disabled and blind after a terrible accident, Kristian Koumantaros forces every live in nurse to quit the job. Owner of First Class Rehab, Elizabeth Hatchet, takes over the job of helping Kristian walk again. They spend many hours together learning about each other and Elizabeth starts having feelings for Kristian, only to bump into her ex-husband who totally wrecked her world in the past. This changes everything between them. Can they keep the past in the past? Can they learn to accept each other for who they are? Can they learn to love each other? this was an exciting book until the very end.
Kristian Koumantaros is the most difficult patient Elizabeth's ever met. The arrogant Greek billionaire likes being in control, and isn't adjusting to being temporarily blinded after a helicopter crash. Alone with Kristian at his luxurious retreat, Elizabeth experiences the full force of his sexual charisma. She knows she'll have to leave! But Kristian will use every weapon he has to entice her to stay and play! (
After 6 of Elizabeth’s private nurses are sent packing by Kristian, she makes the trip herself to nurse Kristian back to life after his tragic accident. Elizabeth somehow gets through to Kristian, and he finds the will to change his future finally. Kristian demands Elizabeth to stay as a glorified assistant. When the feelings between them become something more, will outside forces destroy what they found? You have to read to find out.
Impossibile, irritante e irresistibile. Kristian Koumantaros è il paziente più difficile che sia mai capitato a Elizabeth. Il milionario greco, infatti, è solito avere tutto sotto controllo, e quando viene affidato alle cure di Elizabeth la situazione diviene subito esplosiva.
Yet another novel I swear that I have read before under a different title. I liked this one. I felt bad for the heroine and the drama she went through. I disliked the hero for a while, well, until the end.
This was a good story. I liked the main characters, it's kind of a taboo relationship between a nurse and patient. I don't read a lot of Harlequins, but they are nice when you want to read a shorter book.
Good book but I hated Cosima and Nico. How you gonna call someone richer than you a gold digger? Really!?! It was a fun read trying to figure out if he could or couldn't see and who was telling the truth.
I found this poorly written. The exposition was clunky and disjointed. The woman's emotional reactions to things felt out of step with things she thought and said. The man was an unrelenting asshole even allowing for his issues. Not good.
