The Shackleton Saga #2

The Shackletons of Coates Lane

It’s 1861 in Whitehaven, and Fergus Shackleton is about to marry his sweetheart, Becky. With a new house to maintain, and a wife and ward to look after, money has never been so important, but Fergus’s shipping line is rapidly losing business to the railways. The days of sail are numbered. For
the sake of his family, Fergus is forced to risk everything on one throw of the dice.

Helping her ma behind the bar of the family pub is no longer suitable for the young wife of a Shackleton, and Becky soon finds herself with time on her hands. That is, until a stranger arrives who could change everything for their beloved ward.

In an era of rapid change, there is much at stake for the newlyweds – and no guarantee they won’t lose everything…

Lorna was born and brought up in Lincolnshire. Her Canadian mother would often talk about growing up on Vancouver Island in the 1930s, and the family’s early history there. This sparked an interest for Lorna that continues to this day. After raising a family Lorna studied and taught history at the School of Oriental and African Studies in London. She now lives in Stamford in a very old house with stone walls and lots of beams.

The second in the series and another fast read. Fergus is going up in the world and is also marrying Becky. Rory is now a fixture in the family but something happens to interrupt his happiness and way of life. Becky is distraught.
Fergus is also still his same impulsive self and takes risks with the business, some of which Becky is unaware of. There's a lot about shipping and trading and agents and it's all very interestingly done.
I'm loving this series and I read this one in a day. I'm already on to the third one.

Good read. Not as good as the first instalment of The Shackletons, but still an enjoyable read. If there is a Book 3 coming, will certainly read that as well.

Love these books. Love the detail about old whitehaven and local area and I enjoy historical fiction. The characters are great too.
