One Sexy Ride

Rate this book
His goal is to stand firm

Len Thompson only wants one woman—his little sister’s best friend. But no matter how much he craves Janey Watson, keeping a physical barrier between them is his only choice, and if he can't have her, he refuses to have anyone. When Janey announces she's leaving town, all bets are off. Len decides it’s time to take—and give—everything he’s been holding back while he still has the chance.

Her gift is rocking his world

Janey’s been crushing on Len for years, but he’s never seemed interested in her. Until now. She’s not sure what triggered his change of heart, but, hell yeah, she’ll accept it. All of it. Every kiss, every touch, every mind-blowing orgasm. Working to meet the deadline for her move is not nearly as interesting as enjoying steamy escapades with the sexy mechanic she's always desired.

Only it’s a relationship built on sand, and Len must finally choose—face his past or let their future crumble.

Can’t get past sample.

Heroine is stupid... the first scene is contrived and stupid. She’s dancing like a slut on steroids with her crush, who’s somehow hiding in the bushes to prevent her from getting date raped by a guy and his friends who slipped some drugs into her drink...

Sigh. Makes me feel like both MCs are idiots!!

I was still on the hunt for a good old romance book when I came across this book. It started off as the commonly used trope 'best friend's older brother' but ended up being filled with some good, heavy emotion.

Len and Janey were easy to like characters but the family dynamic was the highlight for me. I'm a sucker for romance series that centre around one family, letting you learn so much more about the characters so don't be surprised if you see the other books in this series popping up in my currently reading list.

Cute, cheesy and heart string tuggn' (steamy) romance, just the way I like it.

Renovating More Than a House

Vivian Arend Thompson and Sons bk 03 One Sexy Ride

I love Len Thompson and Janey Watson's chemistry and how they come to be. The heartbreak, the honesty, and the mixed signals, as well as the heat and secrets, all come together to create a wonderful love story.

Keith Thompson's love for his late wife pours off the pages and caused many tears to form. Seeing the way it's impacted Len makes it more powerful. 😭🤧💔

I received an author's copy of the audio book. The narrator's Tatiana Sokolov. I've listened to many books that she's narrated, and she never disappoints.

I was pretty excited to read this book after finishing ROCKY RIDE so I grabbed the audiobook right away. This story was surprisingly sweet! And what really caught me off guard was the sexy as hell hero is a virgin. *Swoon* Yes, he wanted sex to be something special and had waited for that right moment and that right woman. And even with the right woman, it has to be special. We can sometimes forget that men can be romantic and have mushy feelings too. So that was my favorite part about this story.

Len and Janey have known each other forever as he is her best friends' brother. Quiet and a bit closed off, but Janey has always wanted Len. And now that she has plans to move away, Len decides to finally make a move because she may just be the right woman for him.
I enjoy to change up from the alpha hero now and then and Len was the perfect sampling of that. He's no less possessive and protective but in a more subdued way. That quiet strength that will always be there for you, but doesn't need to be loud about it shouting it from the rooftops. Definitely a guy that is a lot more my speed. And Laney was the perfect balance for him. She doesn't let him taking himself too serious, loosens him up, and breaks down his protective walls. The progress at which their relationship developed was perfect and with a short(ish) page count, I think the author did an amazing job with their story.
As always, Vivian Arend is a go to author for a sweet and sexy story. She always creates worlds and characters that you come to care for right away and that they stay with you. Not just the main couple, but the rest of the cast of characters as well. I think this was another great example of that!

Janey has been in love with her best friend's older brother for years but Len has never seemed to look twice at her. Len may not have shown his interest but he's always been aware of Janey and it's only now that she is planning on moving away and he's about to lose her forever that he understands quite what he's missed out on. Len has always tried to keep people at arm's length but he doesn't have much time left with Janey and he's going to make the most of it. Janey is more than willing to fall into Len's arms but if he lets her walk away then she may never recover from her broken heart.

I have been a fan of this series from the beginning and I was looking forward to getting to know Len a bit better, from what we've seen of him in the past he has always come across as quite closed off and he doesn't even seem to let his family in completely so I was excited to see Janey get under his skin. I'm a sucker for a friends to lovers type romance and while Janey was always closest with Len's younger sister Katy she has known the whole family since childhood and her feelings towards Len have always been anything but platonic. Len doesn't believe he deserves to be happy, it was quite heartbreaking to see why he is so determined to keep people at a distance so I really enjoyed seeing Janey push past his defences. The couple have great chemistry but there is a lot more to their relationship than that & they get on well inside and out of the bedroom.

Alongside the romance I really enjoyed a chance to catch up with previous characters and see more of the brother's whose stories are still to come. I love the way the Thompson family all tease each other, the banter between them is witty and amusing and very realistic. Vivian Arend always creates a strong sense of family in her stories and that's one of the reasons I keep returning to her series time and time again. One Sexy Ride was a great instalment to the series and I can't wait to read Clay and Troy's books when they're published.

Len Thompson is the quiet one in the family. He doesn't say alot but when he does it means something. For years he's been watching out for his sister's best friend Janey. He's always kept her at arms length until he finds out she's leaving town. Suddenly he just can't let her get away without taking his chance with her. Janey is the black sheep for her family. She's a carpenter and is renovating her old family home to sell and then moving away to a town where she can have a better chance at making money with her new business. She's been chasing after Len for years and when he suddenly wants to chase her she's not sure what he's up to. Once Len gives in though it's crazy hot sexy times and enjoying each other in and out of the bedroom. As Janey's deadline looms they are both finding themselves wishing things didn't have to end. Then a encounter with Len's dad brings him back to the reason he's held off all these years and instead of risking his heart he decides he needs to let Janey go. OMG these two are off the charts HOT together. This is a fast sexy read. The banter between these two is sizzling and it's great to see them find each other. Len has to really do some groveling though to get her back and be bold. Something he's not used to doing. Can't wait to see what's up with the rest of the Thompson siblings!

I loved this book and I loved Janey, "s***." Janey sighed, jerking her shirt over her head. "So. You got to take care of me while I was high, and I basically offered myself to you. Again." Sometimes Len just has to show Janey what her mind isn't getting, "he grabbed her hand and pressed it against the raging erection attempting to escape from his jeans. "Does that feel like I'm not attracted to you?" Len he's honest (well in some subjects others the boy just closes himself off,) "you were driving me nuts," Len confessed. "Every time you rubbed against me, I got harder. I swear my c*** is ready to explode." What I loved most about Len was the fast he wants to anything and everything to make his girl happy, "his big hands rested on her hips, and he shifted her gently against him. "If it makes you happy, I'll paint everything in the house red." I think I'll like this series.

I received an ARC of this book from the Publisher, via Netgalley, in exchange for an honest review.

This is book 2 of the Thompson & Sons series, which is actually a spin-off from the Six Pack Ranch Series.

Janey has been chasing after quiet Len Thompson for years with no success, but when someone drops drugs into Janey's drink at a bonfire party, Len ends up taking care of her while she's stoned out of her mind. She doesn't quite know what happened that night, but Len finally deigned to be caught. Since this is a friends to lovers story, you don't have all the awkward getting to know you stuff, but it turns out that Len has some pretty big secrets that no one know. One of them is absolutely adorable, and one of them is just very sad. But when one of Len's secrets affects their relationship, it changes Janey's view of their history, and the course of each of their futures.

I thought that their relationship was sweet, adorable, and somewhat filthy. They both felt like real, fairly comfortable in their skin kinds of people. They had relationships with friends and their families, they are 3 dimensional characters. And despite the awkwardness of changing their relationship (and the specific hurdles involved with this particular couple) they felt comfortable and happy with each other, which let me feel comfortable with them. But while Janey is mostly an open book, Len can be closed off in areas of his life. Which of course leads to Len doing something incredibly stupid and hurtful. There was no big misunderstanding. Len had just made certain choices based on how own history and emotions, and looking at it from a sideways testosterone poisoned perspective, his actions made sense...for him. I didn't agree with it, and it didn't make sense to me, but I could see where his actions were coming from. But when Len finally wises up, it is all lovely, because he has to chase Janey in a pretty major way, so it was a really sweet turn around.

I am really enjoying this series, just like I've been enjoying the Six Pack Ranch series, it is good and comfortable to have the frame of reference of the community and some of the characters so there doesn't have to be a lot of info dumping about that. And it works well because Arend doesn't over use the cameo. While you might see the main characters from other books, most of the time it is only to speak to, and when it is more, it is because they actually are integral to the current plot, not because it felt like she had something to say about the other characters. 4 stars and I am eagerly awaiting the rest of this series, which looks like the next 2 stories will be coming out and finishing the series before the end of the year.

Slick‘s review posted on Guilty Pleasures Book Reviews

4 STARS

The latest release in Vivian Arend’s Thompson & Sons series, One Sexy Ride, takes on a more serious feel than its predecessor but it was still a very good story. Len Thompson, middle son and the quiet one has always managed to keep a low profile even around his little sister’s best friend and the woman he’s wanted forever, Janey Watson, until one night changes everything for him. This book packs a punch with some pretty big revelations, a hero who takes his time, a heroine who drives him crazy, and a love that spans way longer than either of them wants to admit; it is sensual and sweet yet hot and sexy.
It was easy to fall for Len because he’s one of those guys that exhibit a quiet strength. He observes, he listens, and he protects. So when he sees Janey in a situation that doesn’t seem safe and acting out of character, he intervenes not knowing how that one night will change his life forever.
Once Len made up his mind that he could be with Janey he went full force and it really made her head spin. Janey was never quiet about her interest in Len so his rapid about face confused her but she wanted to be with him and so she didn’t question it very much. I liked these two together and it was an interesting combination. I loved that Len was comfortable enough with Janey that he could share some very private things with her, things he hadn’t shared with anyone in the past. Janey accepted all parts of Len although his lack of talking did make her crazy more than once. Despite knowing each other forever and their relationship looking seamless, some big assumptions and no talk led to some even bigger misunderstandings and a whole lot of heartache.
I really enjoyed this book; these two had a pretty deep connection and once Len finally opened up about everything so many things became clearer. Most of all I loved that his family was there to help him when he finally realized what he’d lost.
One Sexy Ride is another fine offering from Vivian Arend and with each book in this series I become more enamored with the Thompson family. I can’t wait to see what she has in store for the last two brothers and is it too much to hope that maybe their Dad might find love again?

I loved the fist book in this series and I could literally not wait to get my hands on the next one. I am a huge fan of Vivian Arend and this is without a doubt going to become one of my fave series.

This is Len's book. He is the shy middle brother who has had a crush on his sisters best friend Janey for years. He is always in the shadows watching her, until one night he comes to her rescue after someone slips something in her drink. He takes her home with him, to look after her when he finally decides enough is enough and he is going to make his move on her. After all when she is finished up repairing her old house, she is leaving town so no harm no foul, because after watching his father mourn his mother after all these year, he is never settling down as he knows he wont be able to take the hurt if something ever happened to Janey.

Janey has always been in love with Len and has been waiting years for him to make his move. She has literally been throwing herself at him since she was young and she cant believe her luck when he finally makes his move. She is beyond happy!!!

I really liked Len, but I have to say not as much as I loved Mitch in the first book. I guess I like my boys a little more wild and naughtier!!!

Still a excellent read that I loved from start to finish. Cant wait for more stories about these hot Thompson boys...

Len's wanted Janey for as long as he can remember and Janey feels the same way about him. When they finally decide to take the plunge and date, some of Len's secrets and insecurities come right along with the all the wonderful and sometimes unsettling feelings he feels when he's around Janey.

There's an awesome scene when they are at the local diner having their first date. I just loved it. Vivian Arend does a great job taking a very ordinary scene and makes it a lot of fun. I really liked the quiet Len Thompson and for the most part understood his reasons for being hesitant to give his heart to someone. I thought it was cute he was still a virgin, and Janey does an awesome job of relieving him of his v-card. But the question comes down to whether he's willing to let his heart go to her too.
The more I read from this author, the more I like her stories. There's humor and some really sweet and sexy times, along with just enough drama to get you invested in the characters. Recommended.

Okay, I am a mess, a big ole sobbing, smiling, warm and fuzzy feeling mess!

If you are looking for a book with the sweetest and silent hero dealing with the peppy and grounded heroine, you need to read this book

My heart was breaking over how confused Len was on romance but it soared when Janey just gets, like completely, gets him

The last three chapters of the book are brutal on your emotions, so have the tissues close. The cumulation of a lifetime of familiarity blossoms into one of the touching and moving moments ever

The entire book is Len and Janey finally finding and giving into their desires. There are some really hot and sexy scenes, Len is a very exacting guy!

The weaving of all that hotness with the deep emotional connection as well is something that brings me back time and again to this authour. I really don't think anyone does it as well. I always know to have uninterrupted time and privacy because it is going to be hot, sweaty, teary and I won't be able to stop!!!!!

I enjoyed One Sexy Ride because I really like the best friend's sibling becomes lover trope. Arend's writing and the story flowed well.

It did have an unexpected New Adult feel to me. We don't know how old Len and Janey are, but I'm guessing mid to late 20's. The NA feel comes from the skinny dipping, date rape drugs, excess drinking etc. Not that older people can't do any or all of those but it just felt unexpectedly NA to me.

I did have an issue with Len and his unwillingness to get into a relationship based on an event that happened when he was 15. It was truly an over the top reaction especially to the degree of his non-contact with the opposite sex. It really rang false to me.

On the plus side, I was happy to see a more sexually active/knowledgeable woman not being portrayed as a slut.

I received this from Netgalley in exchange for my honest review.

I do believe that this is my first Vivian Arend read and I can say that I am now a reader of hers.

One Sexy Ride was a sweet and sexy small town contemporary romance that I found to be really enjoyable. I haven't read the first of the series yet, but had no problems jumping straight into this one. Therefore, One Sexy Ride can easily be a stand alone read.

Len and Janey's story was an entertaining one. It was fun to watch them come together (finally) after pining after each other for years. Their romance was sweet, fun and of course full of steam as well. Len's family was also an entertaining bunch as well with all the teasing and banters.

Overall, One Sexy Ride was a good read. Entertaining from beginning to end.

What a sweet, beautiful story! What a lovely surprise. When I wasn't crying, I was laughing. Len was 15 when his mother died. His Dad and his four brothers were each grieving in their own way. None of the Thompson men had any idea how this event would affect their future relationships. Janey has loved Len all of her life and chased him all over town. But he kept pushing her away so he wouldn't end up like his father-hurt and alone. But can Len face his fears and fight for the life that he and Janey deserve? Nicely Done!

This was a very sweet addition to this series. I've always been a fan of Vivian's stories, especially with her Six Pack series, and this is lovely with how closely linked the two series are. Readers should find this book easy to read, hot to trot, and engaging.

Janey´s had a cruch on Len for ages, and can´t believe her luck when he finally acts. What she doesn´t know is his reasoning behind finally making his move.
Smutty fluff, feelings and misunderstandings in a great combo, and I´m loving the life in this town. Can´t wait for the next installment!

2 1/2
I want to give this a 3 star and maybe I'll come back and do that but it really is between 2 and 3. I give it the 2 because...
1. Strong silent type kind of stalkerish though he is egged on my heroine.
2. Keeps a "secret" that just isn't. This is stretched out until the end and leads us on.

So first scene, Len is watching Janey almost skinny dip with her friends. He is just "watching" on the side lines to keep her safe. Huh... So, then it is found that he is needed because she has been drugged by the guys that show up. What do they do? Take her home, don't report to the police because that might cause issues at work? Couldn't prove it? OK, they have their reasons but the 3 guys are now out there.

From there it is a slow burn nice romance that proves to have a little twist to make it sweet. So Janey has had a crush on Len since puberty and Len has secretly been watching out for her and wanting more. So... why haven't they ever got together before this? Well, that is the big question and it actually comes to a head, he does the stupidest things and we find that it is a ridiculous reason. Yep, that is the reason as dumb as it can be.

Well even with this angst for no reason but silliness ending, it was sweet to a point. Problem... it dragged out and we are only kept interested for the big reveal. Then the reveal is a let down. Yes, I can see it being sad and an influence in life but to that point, no. So it was a let down. It wasn't bad and parts were good but overall for this series, it is more of a meh than a good.

In Vivian Arend's One Sexy Ride, the 3rd installment in the Thompson and Sons and the 10th installment in the Rocky Mountain House contemporary romance series, this romance will make you feel hot and bothered and rev up your engines. For Len Thompson, he always had feelings for Janey Watson, his sister's best friend, for as long as he lived and known her. They've grown up with each other and watched her grown up before his eyes. It first started when he encounted Janey getting taken advantage of by other men and had her drink drugged too. So he had to take care of and made sure she recovered from her ordeal. But while she made fast tracks to work on a home renovation project, he needed to move fast to tell her how she felt before she moved to Calgary. For Janey, she wanted to prove to her folks and others that she can handle big projects on her own. But when it came to Len, she didn't know how he felt about her. But during their first date together, they had a taste of what they could have in a very sexual and blossoming, casual relationship and how they were made for each other. She didn't mind Len giving her a helping hand or when he made her laugh. She didn't want to lose a good thing on what they have. And when he brought the deed to their home they've worked on, he made a huge mistake and could've messed things up for her. In order to win her back, he would have to open his heart and let her come in to start a future.

Best friend's older brother, virgin, but why is Len refusing her at every turn?

I love this story. Make sure you have tissue handy because you will have tears.
Janey has been in love with her best friend's brother Len forever and has thrown herself at him at every turn but he keeps refusing. After she gets drugged at a bonfire party and Len is the only one who can take care of her for the night, suddenly he wants to date her and she isn't sure why when she plans to leave at the end of summer when she is finished remodeling the home she grew up in and can sell it. After a great summer together, Len pulls away and does something stupid that makes Janey think he wants forever but his words say he wants her out of town as soon as possible? Will she leave town as planned or find a job so she can stay in the town where she grew up even though seeing Len will hurt? Will Len be able to convince her he feels the same way as she does and to forgive him and give him another chance?

One Sexy Ride is the third in Vivian Arend’s Thompson & Sons series, set in the small town of Rocky Mountain House in Alberta, Canada.

Len Thompson and Janey Watson have known each other forever. Janey and Len’s younger sister Katy are best friends, and Janey’s made no secret of her years’ long crush on Len. When Len finally decides to allow himself to reciprocate, no one is surprised at what a great couple they make. Except forever isn’t in the cards, is it?

Vivian Arend’s story is hot and deeply emotional. Still waters run deep, and Len and Janey’s opposites attract thing is well written and compelling. The Thompsons and their friends are warm and wonderful characters, and this is a terrific read.

Great story!

I really enjoyed this one! I loved watching Janey and Len finally come together and get their shot. We finally get to see that Len really does like Janey as well and that he’s been holding back for a reason. I loved the way that this story developed and really getting to delve deep into quiet Len. He is a protector and I love how much he watched and was attuned to Janey. This story was easy to engage with and get lost in and while it isn’t long, it isn’t too short either. There was plenty of development that kept the story moving forward, though a lot of it is about character growth rather than big actions/obstacles they had to overcome. This story was sweet though it definitely had some angsty moments too. I can’t wait for more.

Wonderful entertaining read with likeable characters.
Started off like a lot of other books with the same plotline, best friends’ brother who is out of bounds.
Then these two get together one summer and the sparks are flying. But then Len goes and makes a big mistake.
Len has shut himself down emotionally due to something that happened when his mother died.
What I loved was the way once Len got a good talking to by his whole family, especially his dad, he was rock solid all the way to showing Janey what she really meant to him.
So sweet, romantically strong and most of all believable.
Read and reviewed before but reviews are missing.

It's ALWAYS very hard 2 deal with a death especially when it's close family member. Even though Len is a quiet sexy man he was afraid 2 really love and have a future cause of his past cause of what happened 2 his mom. Instead of talking it out he was trying 2 protect his heart even though part of him still wanted sumone 4 himself especially when he's known her all their lives cause of being best friends with his sister. He's extremely romantic!! I soooo wish I could truly find a man like him in every way, sexy and smart, quiet and so much more.

short and cute

Len and Janey danced around each other for years. They finally decide for a summer fling but one wants more.
Len is one stubborn cookie. He had a heads time with emotions but in the end realized what he wanted.
The book was a short cute simple read with our much drama.

The series has grown on me . . . I got the first two books in a single book set free through a promotion on Riffle. I purchased this one and will finish the series.

(This series is not for the reader who would be offended with "R" rated/adult sexual escapades thrown into the mix of the books' plots.)
