Lost Haven – Book Review

Lost Haven by Sabrina Fish is the seventh part in William Bernhardt's Shine Series. Each part is a standalone novella but related to the whole bunch.
Lost Haven opens with Camille trying to escape her ex-fiancé at a fair. During a confrontation, she wishes he were blind and her wish comes true or so we are led to believe.
Camille is a Shine, a person born with a special ability. There are other Shine people all over the world, but they are constantly accused of causing many catastrophes and acts of terrorism, especially by the media, and are therefore hunted down by individuals and governments and the church.
Camille is torn between being forced to sell her family's property and keeping it, but being unable to maintain it. Selling the property is not an easy task, especially for a Shine. Camille also suspects their neighbour, Mr. Walker senior, who has had his eye on their land for ages, of being behind her family's deaths.
Lost Haven is quick-paced young adult novella, so the reader quickly learns about Camille, the mystery of her parents' deaths, her life, friends, and her ability, though the truth about what she can really do is nicely stretched throughout the novella.
Lost Haven is action, sci-fi, romance and suspense masterfully woven in a novella that has all the characteristics of a full-novel.

Author Sabrina Fish said she plans to contribute one or two more parts in The Shine Series to expound the characters, give them more depth and allow Jeremy to redeem himself.

Lost Haven's sequel, Road to Nowhere is finished and due to be released in October.

This book was well written and very enjoyable. Although, it was a little heavy on the mono-theistic Christian views. In today's times, if someone includes a religious view and doesn't include any other beliefs, it can be insulting to be overly-exposed to such a view. My recommendation is that further writings be either not so much of a mono-theistic standing, or include equal parts of other religions. I think a good example would be for every time one statement of the Christianity view, somewhere else use something from another religion. Even it out some.
Aside from that issue, this was an excellent story. I look forward to reading her next book.

A truly captivating dialog, after I started reading the book I couldn’t put it down. Sabrina has undoubtedly used words to capture the attention of the reader and descriptions to make the words come to life, if not the senses. My mouth was watering for a turkey leg before leaving the scene of the fair. The energy throughout the book was heartfelt; one could empathize with the girls’ circumstances and the plight surrounding her need for comfort. Well done my dear, you have mastered the art and I look forward to reading the next book, which is sitting right beside me.

I loved this book! Mrs. Fish did a fantastic job of incorporating a Shine into a small town setting. The main character, Camille, had a unique Shine ability that I absolutely loved. The author did a wonderful job of showing how the Shine power works in a scientific way. Her story drew me in. She has me on pins and needles waiting for the next book!

I continue to enjoy the concept that this series represents. In is natural that some stories will resonate with me more than others. This is a fine tale that remains consistent to the premise and quality of the Shine universe. I look forward to reading additional stories from Sabrina Fish.
