Rate this book

Mikhail Yuryevich Lermontov (Михаил Юрьевич Лермонтов), a Russian Romantic writer, poet and painter, sometimes called "the poet of the Caucasus", was the most important Russian poet after Alexander Pushkin's death. His influence on later Russian literature is still felt in modern times, not only through his poetry, but also by his prose.

Lermontov died in a duel like his great predecessor poet, Aleksander Pushkin.

Even more so tragically strange (if not to say fatalistic) that both poets described in their major works fatal duel outcomes, in which the main characters (Onegin and Pechorin) were coming out victorious.

It’s sad to say that this book had not been finished by the author. The plot is marvellous and the atmosphere of the Tsar Russia is always on point!
The book describes the life of Pechorin before “the hero of our time”. An unfinished prequel would have been a great success!

A shame he didn't finish this one. I wanted to give a lower rating out of vengeance. But then again since Lermontov can't see it anyways, he gets his well deserved 3.9 stars for getting me so invested in Pechorin's and Vera's story.

given that it’s unfinished, i can’t say i enjoyed this so much. was kind of forgettable, really...though Lermontov’s writing style is ethereal so that’s three stars for ya.
