Perchè ho lasciato questo libro lì a prendere la polvere per anni?

Leggere la trama potrebbe far pensare a un libro del tutto normale, la classica storia d’amore e gli scontati fraintendimenti e battibecchi tra i personaggi principali.
"Meradyce non mosse neppure un muscolo del viso, ma i suoi occhi scintillavano di offesa e di orgoglio. «Voi pensate soltanto a quell’aspetto. Io invece ho amato e sono stata amata in un modo molto più puro e profondo.» Travolto dalla collera, dalla gelosia e da un soffocante sgomento, Einar la trasse a sé e la baciò sulla bocca con violenza e passione. Le avrebbe fatto dimenticare qualunque altro uomo del suo passato. Per un istante ebbe la sensazione che lei rispondesse al bacio, ma subito si rese conto di sbagliare: la sassone, infatti, non reagiva, ma rimaneva gelida e distante. Con una muta imprecazione, la lasciò andare e alzò una mano."
Malgrado in effetti questi aspetti siano presenti in modo ricorrente e trattati in maniera del tutto piacevole, il racconto si diversifica molto dai classici canoni in quanto sono presenti personaggi del tutto inusuali e imprevedibili, come i due bambini a cui fa riferimento la sinossi.
Ma soprattutto, ad allietare il lettore, troviamo alcuni colpi scena sorprendenti e la protagonista dalla lunga falce che, almeno a me, ha fatto scorrere alcune lacrime sulle guance.
«Adelar?» Lui si voltò di scatto. Gli intensi occhi grigi del vichingo sembravano trafiggerlo. «Sì?» «Perché Meradyce non ha un marito?» Adelar non si era aspettato una domanda simile e non ne era particolarmente entusiasta. «Non lo so.» «Nessuno l’ha mai chiesta in sposa?» «Non saprei.» «C’è mai stato un uomo cui sembrava… volere bene in modo particolare?» «Non saprei» ripeté Adelar, con il cuore che batteva forte. Fissò l’acqua della pozza. Il suo volto si era fatto di fuoco. Da adulto avrebbe compreso che il sentimento che provava in quel momento era di pura gelosia, ma allora sapeva soltanto che non gradiva le domande di Einar.
E poi inutile negare che i vichinghi hanno il fascino antico e misterioso che ritroviamo nel protagonista, bello come il sole e dall’apparenza cattiva, ma con un onore e un cuore che conquisterà qualsiasi lettrice.
"La sentì sospirare. «Non sarebbe corretto, neppure nei confronti di uno stolto come lui, scegliere un marito, quando il cuore appartiene a un altro uomo.» Einar la portò sopra di sé, sentendo la morbidezza e il calore del suo corpo. «Il tuo cuore appartiene a me, Meradyce?» Gli occhi di sua moglie gli risposero senza bisogno di parole."
Concludo invitando chiunque ami gli storici e quel tipo di ambientazione, a leggere questo breve racconto, carico però di molte emozioni.

A história começa com Einar, o viking, invadindo uma vila saxônica e sequestrando uma mulher e duas crianças...
Nada diferente da maioria dos livros temáticos, mas depois mais coisas aparecem na trama como o fato de que o sequestro foi ocasional, os vikings estavam lá para matar a mulher do chefe saxão - que os havia pago para isso.
Há também triângulos amorosos, morte infantil, ameaça de violência, traições, etc... mas há pouco romance para quem está acostumado com a avalanche que normalmente acompanha o gênero.
Não é ruim, apesar disso.

Une romance historique au temps des vikings qui, si elle peut être basique, ne fait cependant pas l'impasse sur le côté historique et notamment le mode de vie viking et la place de la femme au sein de ce peuple à la fois fier et violent.
L'autrice nous offre des moments interessants avec une héroïne qui ne se laisse pas faire malgré sa condition féminine, ce qui lui permet de gagner le coeur du héros.
Les personnages secondaires sont attachants, notamment les enfants. Quelques scènes de batailles qui font mal.
Moment de lecture sympathique.

i read this book in just over 48 hours. i really enjoyed it and at times found it hard to put down.
i loved how it ended. it showed how strong women can be. i really loved it. i look forward to the next one.

I was lead to believe that these "women's romances" are nothing more than smut. I was grievously misinformed. There is very little to titillate in this. It actually tries to be a romance novel. I don't think it does very well. Love is a very personal matter, so I imagine that in order to be convincing, a romance story needs to be really introspective. It needs to drive the reader into the heads of the protagonists, so that we know them, feel what they feel, want what they want. If it's just a general, oh, this guy liked this girl because she was hot, and she liked him because it suits the plot, the effect is whatever.
Rather than making us believe in the love of the main characters, the author tries to tell an adventure story about Vikings and Saxons and far too many children. It's not a very exciting story.

Je commence par le négatif : que ce soit cette nouvelle cover, ou celle de l'ancienne édition ; quelle horreur !!! Il est où le viking ?? Et la fille on dirait plus une libertine qu'autre chose là... quel gâchis ! Voilà, c'est dit.
Comme dans Noces secrètes, j'étais tout de suite dans l'ambiance. J'avais même l'impression de ressentir le froid quand ils arrivent au village viking ! Ok, il a bien caillé ces derniers jours mais quand même. Margaret Moore sait me transporter dans ces romans.
Les personnages sont tous intéressants et captivants. Il y a les héros, Meradyce et Einar, que j'ai vraiment apprécié. Puis les secondaires : les enfants, la famille d'Einar, sa prétendante, son rival de toujours... Ce panel de perso donnent lieu à plusieurs petites intrigues au coeur de la grande du coup je ne me suis pas ennuyée ! Jusqu'à la fin on se demande ce qui va se passer et de quelle façon.
L'histoire d'amour prend place crescendo et pas n'importe comment. La tension monte et quand ça arrive enfin, c'est comme un feu d'artifice ^^ Ils vont tellement bien ensemble !! Einar ne surpasse pas Adair mais miammmmmm !
En bref, is vous avez envie de mecs virils venus du froid, n'hésitez pas ! Et n'oubliez pas que vous pouvez encore vous inscrire au challenge :)

Je ne m'attendais pas à autant apprécier ce livre et pourtant ce fut le cas. C'est le premier livre que je lis avec autant de détails sur le mode de vie viking et c'était vraiment intéressant.
Meradyce, jeune sage-femme saxonne, suite à un malentendu sur son identité, est enlevée avec les deux enfants du thane de son village, Alendar et Betha, par un groupe de féroces guerriers vikings menés par Einar, le fils du chef viking.
Redoutant son avenir dans le camp ennemi, où elle craint de finir esclave ou pire, elle n'est cependant pas insensible au charme rude d'Einar qui, lui, ne cherche pas de femme, ayant été échaudé par un premier mariage désastreux.
Les deux personnages principaux étaient agréables à suivre, tout comme les personnages secondaires, notamment Alendar et Endredi qui ont d'ailleurs leur propre histoire dans la suite de la série: Le Pacte Secret.

Trama molto classica, una storia scorrevole ed ottima per un paio d'ore di lettura spensierata! Abbiamo il guerriero vichingo invasore e orgoglioso e una donna guaritrice altrettanto testarda che più che una prigioniera sembra quasi un'ospite...un mix a dir poco esplosivo XD Non mancano i bambini ad addolcire il tutto e ovviamente il cattivo di turno che vuole la donna e sopratutto la vendetta (e se scappa pure un gruzzoletto schifo non gli fa XD) Mi è venuto un colpo al cuore allo sterminio della battaglia finale...alcuni personaggi mi piacevano molto e mi è dispiaciuto per loro ç__ç

I haven't read a book from this genre in a while and I really liked it. I used to read these all the time but moved on to paranormal. Maybe I'll read more Medieval Viking books now. I used to love Margaret Moore but when I stopped reading these older books, I stopped reading her too. What a shame as this book was wonderful. I really liked Einar (the Viking). he wasn't your typical Viking - you know the raping and pillaging kind. Oh sure, he pillaged as ordered but the raping he left to the others. Surprisingly, he was a perfect gentleman. I also liked Meradyce. She was a perfect heroine, strong, determined and beautiful. All in all a wonderfully romantic story.

As with so many historicals, I really enjoyed this one, with the rich history of a culture that to me has been relativity unknown. The proud vikings and the battles they fought, how well Margaret Moore seems to romanticize them. I really enjoyed these characters, the interactions, even with the occasional lack of verbal language, made it enjoyable. I do sometimes wonder where authors come up with names though. Still, I will eventually read the next one (The Saxon) as it seems to have some of the same group of characters in it that I have enjoyed (and learned to pronounce their names).

An interesting historical tale about Vikings and Saxons. The story begins with the Vikings attacking a Saxon settlement because they were paid to kill the wife of the ruler of the settlement. But there is a case of mistaken identity and an abduction because the Viking could not kill the woman. Going back to the Viking's land and settlement we are introduced to the life and culture of the Vikings. Of course, there's more involved but that's for you to read.

Other than being Harlequin, I found no personal faults in this tale. Full of characters, intrigue and adventure, the story isn't just romance and passion.
