There are times when we may feel like we don't deserve anything good because of our past mistakes or shortcomings. It's a tough place to be in, and “You Are Deserving" is a book that could be helpful for you as it was specially written for people who experience these thoughts.

"You deserve trust despite your past mistakes, if you are sincere in your repentance."

This book is unique in that it explicitly addresses this mindset by reflecting on the story of the Prophet Musa. The author does an excellent job of explaining each topic broadly through the story of Prophet Musa, with the book organized into ten chapters that follow the story's reflection.

The author also shares her personal life experiences, which I think was a great way for readers to understand her backstory. The writing style is also easy to follow and makes it easier to grasp the messages.

Of all the chapters, I particularly liked the fifth chapter, which talks about second chances. As humans, we all make mistakes, and I believe that we deserve a second chance. We shouldn't dwell on our past mistakes; instead, we should repent and make sure the same thing won't happen again.

“Whatever your flaws were in the past, you are deserving to take every single chance that you can to right those wrongs.”

Another chapter that I found insightful was the last chapter, which focuses on the topic of fresh starts. The author includes this topic to help readers have a fresh start, and I appreciate that. Starting over isn't always easy, but the author emphasizes that it begins with a mindset change. This is a crucial message that we can all benefit from.

Overall, "You Are Deserving" is a great book that provides insights on how we should view ourselves and our past mistakes, and also into some of the most critical topics that we face in our lives. It's a must-read for anyone who struggles with negative thoughts about themselves. Nevertheless, I believe anyone who reads it will learn something valuable.

“We make mistakes not because we are failures, but because we are humans.”

Thank you PutehPress for sending me this book 🫶

This book encourage us to reflect upon our own experiences by using the wisdom and guidance from Prophet Musa to realised how much we are deserving of greatness, acceptance, and the boundless love of Allah.

I’ve got beaten with the feelings of undeserving and unworthy before. If this book existed, it would’ve soften the blows. Eventhough I’ve survived the phase, there will always be possibilities for it to came back. By then, I have this book now with me to help me go through it once more. Why do we undermined ourselves? Why do we feel unworthy? We can never really understand. That’s why this book is the kind of read that we need to determine the causes and solutions by reflecting ourselves upon Prophet Musa’s tests and life tribulations.

Quoting the author “You are deserving because of your shortcomings. We were all born weak into this life. Who else is meant to suffice our lives but Allah?”
“Overcoming undeservingness and embracing our true worth. is an ongoing process; an exploration of self-discovery and growth that unfolds throughout our lives. It requires consistent self-reflection, self-compassion, and the nurturing of a mindset rooted in resilience and gratitude”

This book is for you who seeks the way out from impostor syndrome. Let it help you to stop thinking you don’t deserved Allah’s mercy, forgiveness and love, to know your worth as a human who are deserving of professional success in life, personal achievements, great friendships, fulfilling relationships, and much more. There’s a lot of process in that, but the first step is to read this book.

New things that I learned from this book is the word UNDESERVING. Never heard of this word before but I am aware that many of us are familiar with the word insecurity. The author used the word undeserving because it carries a powerful emotional weight that she experienced herself and it reflects the inner voice of doubt many people carry, the feelings that they are not good enough, not worthy of love and affections. These are happen due to past traumas and rejection.

"Even if you've been made to feel undeserving, you are worthy just as you are."

This book is deeply intertwined with her personal experiences of overcoming feelings of unworthiness and her pursuit of self-growth. She also shared her experiences in dealing with depression that led her to reevaluate her life choices. The turning point was the moment she lost her beloved cousin, that made her question herself, or in an exact way, her deservedness.

The book is structured into ten chapters, each reflecting on different aspects of self-worth. She uses the story of Prophet Musa (AS) to illustrate that even those who have faced significant challenges and self-doubt are deserving of love, success, and happiness just like Prophet Musa AS when he had to run away from his father, Fir'aun.

Personal insights :
- Insecurity or undeserving is a common struggle. The main thing is the knowledge that we must apply to cope with this feeling and turn us into a better person.

- Healing isn’t about erasing pain but learning to live with self-compassion, and I love the part where the author encourages the readers to embrace imperfection and negative feelings.

- The story of Prophet Musa AS teaches us a lot about self worth despite many mistakes he committed. Same goes for us. Faith can be a powerful anchor in rebuilding self-worth.

If you often feel "not enough", this book speaks directly to that emotional space. The author gently helps you unpack where those feelings come from and how to heal.

I’m at the point of my life where I feel very grateful with everything that I have, and I think Allah has given me more than what I deserved. Asking for more make me feel as if I’m very selfish.

I keep telling myself that I should make more du’a for others especially for our brothers and sisters in Palestine because they deserve it more than I do. But this book simply reminds me that why I should not put limit to what Allah can give to you and to people around you because we all know too well of His boundless mercy and power.

Using the story of Prophet Musa as the theme to extract all the beautiful lessons that we can apply in our life is something that the author did brilliantly. We all need to be reminded of the depth and magnitude of Allah’s grace and mercy. We must not feed ourselves into the feeling of undeserving.

Allah loves us to ask for more and Allah always gives us the opportunity to use everything that He granted us to bring ourselves closer to Him and use it to serve the ummah.
It is such a comforting book and at the same time give us some kind of action plan on how to utilise the lesson we learn in the real world.

p/s: chapter 9 hurts quite a bit because it hits way closer to home.

A book about insecurities. I like the approach via stories of Prophet Musa AS. Chapters that I love are Chapter 7 on drenching in the ocean of great things and Chapter 9 about Romantic Love.

Having great things in life is also a journey of struggle. People would see us at a rough glance and expect us to be generous. Being generous actually does not require having great things. That's the twist in life.

Gratitude is pertinent indeed. Gratitude lead us to plan as best as possible in event of low points of life. This is my key takeaway from this book.

Love? Passionate or companionate? Passionate has its peak. Passionate love will expand into companionate love that lasts throughout our lives.
