I don’t know where I came from. I don’t know where I’m going. What I do know is where I’d like to be—safe within my mother’s embrace.
One girl’s search for truth may alter an entire universe in the spellbinding new science fiction novel, Nebula. Written by L.A. Sees, this young adult adventure proves the importance of being yourself no matter what galaxy you’re in.
Ree Lindbergh’s dream since she was a little girl is a simple one: to one day travel to Earth. Instead, she’s stuck aboard the Omega Centauri, a spacecraft used to patrol the borders of the Milky Way. Having spent her entire seventeen-year existence on board, Ree is a bit restless. But her mission is important: help keep Earth’s newly discovered alien species, the Bufoanthroid, under control.
By day, Ree enjoys spending time with her best friend, Zac Walker. But when night falls, she is continually tormented by memories of her mother, killed by a Bufoanthroid the day Ree was born.
Her world is turned upside down once again when Zac’s ship disappears. Determined to rescue him, Ree embarks on a frantic mission to save him. As events unravel and secrets are revealed, Ree soon realizes that achieving her dreams will mean facing the truth behind her nightmares.
L.A. Sees was born and raised in New Jersey before earning a bachelor’s degree from Rutgers University and a master’s degree from the University of Southern California.
Currently working as a high school history teacher, Sees enjoys writing, traveling, and browsing flea markets in her spare time. INTERSTELLAR is the second book in The Nebula Trilogy, a young adult science fiction series begun with her debut novel, NEBULA.
I am a big book reader. When I first heard about this book, I was so curious and wanted to know more right away. The emotions felt so real, ad I never knew what was coming next! I am defiantly a huge fan of Nebula. Even though you may not be into books that much, I suggest you read this. It not only is a book for young readers, but adults as well. This book was fascinating because it takes place in the future, and has a plot that will get you thinking. Can't wait for he second one!
AMAZING!!!!!! I was captured from the very first sentence! Even by looking at the cover I knew Nebula was something special. The characters felt so real and alive. There are so many plot twists and I never knew what was around the corner. My favorite thing about Nebula was how L. A. Sees builds up character development. This book definitely has A LOT of "feels". You can tell that L. A. Sees wanted the first book to be book of feels, and the second one is when most of the action comes in. I love how Zac has so many flaws and isn't perfect like most male characters in YA books. It shows that there is room for him to grow as well as Ree. I would definitely recommend Nebula to anyone who loves "feels", plot twists, and suspense.
THIS BOOK NEEDS GOOD REVIEWS AND IT NEEDS THEM NOW. I am SO IN LOVE with this novel it’s not even funny. I’m happy I took a chance on something fairly unknown and think you should do the same. Please note, there will be some spoilers here. (Nothing major though. I don’t play like that.)
Ree Lindbergh is a typical teenage girl. Well, I guess she isn’t “typical” since she lives on a spaceship that is patrolling the borders of the Milky Way Galaxy. From the very beginning, I was sucked in. The very first chapter is only half a page and it describes a dream she’s having in vivid detail. As soon as I read it, I had to solve the mystery pronto. From the book description, I thought I had an idea of where it would all lead, but really I had no idea.
Ree faces similar issues that most teenagers go through. She wants to make her father proud yet doesn't really see eye to eye with him all of the time. She watches movies and has unrealistic expectations about Earth. It’s quite humorous how clueless she and Zac are about anything that has to do with their home planet that was never their home. Their bantering is funny. Their relationship is believable.
Let’s just get this out there. I LOVE Zac Walker. I love how L.A. Sees made him a flawed individual, not some perfect wussy guy that YA novels always seem to have. The fact that he’s flawed means there’s room to grow. And I love Ree’s friendship with him. It’s very sweet and from the second you start you are just rooting for them to get together. Once Saya comes into the picture, however, you’ll be tearing your hair out. Not sure why she felt the need to do this….I mean, obviously Zac and Ree are meant for each other. I hate Saya Grey but then I guess towards the end of the book I don't hate her so much anymore. (: (: (:
I guess if I had to pick an issue with the book it’s that it takes a bit of time to get to the real hardcore action. However, I understand what the author was trying to do. Really, this is a book about Ree’s self discovery. I actually like that we are in her head, learning with her for the first half of the novel. There’s tons of conflict going on throughout so I was never bored. But once you get through the halfway point…you won’t be able to put it down. (SPOILER…well, it’s on the back of the book…but once Zac’s ship goes missing…it gets incredibly interesting.)
The best thing about this book? The characters and the writing. L.A. Sees really does a great job at creating realistic dialogue and characters that I actually care about. I LOVE how Elton loves Ree, the girl he sees as a little sister. I LOVE how Blythe will do anything for her young friend. I LOVE how Tyler is such a skeeve. He might be my favorite character. And mostly, I love how Ree remains true to herself throughout. She seems kind of needy and erratic from time to time but that’s what makes her unique. She is far from perfect as is Zac. Again, that's what makes them so special. Sometimes you're super annoyed with Ree...other times you're super annoyed with Zac.
I just wanted to put a piece up here…my favorite part to give a sense of the writing. It’s good. And I enjoyed it. (Again, SPOILER.)
I looked up at the sky. The planet had three suns and moons, all visible, as the red suns began to fall behind the trees. The moons seemed much closer than they should be, they hovered over us like big unblinking eyes. I shivered despite the heat. Still, it was my first time on solid ground, and as terrified as I was for us, I was going to enjoy it. As my eyes adjusted, I could actually appreciate the atmosphere now; the sun was no longer blinding my vision, the air smelled heavy and almost sweet. The sky was streaked with thin clouds in bright pinks, oranges, and yellows, from all the sulfurous gas in the atmosphere. It looked like a painting I had seen in a movie once. It was beautiful. I suddenly remembered what it was called on Earth. “Zac,” I said softly, “that was our first sunset.” Without saying anything, he reached out and touched my hand, sending warmth through me like a bolt of hot air. His hand curled around mine, and for a moment all I could hear was my heart beating as we watched the three suns disappear together. “Do you think it’s just as amazing on Earth?” he asked.
When you read through the book, it just plays in your head like a movie. I really can’t wait for the second one to come out…so many questions I am dying to know the answers to.
I was so so SO happy when this beauty arrived in the post. Let's just take a minute to appreciate the awesomeness that is the cover. Like seriously, it is beyond beautiful. I could just sit and stare at it all day!
As the blurb tells, this book is told from the perspective of our MC, Marie aka Ree. Ree is a sweet, naive and totally adorable girl who had grown up on a space ship on the edge of the galaxy, where they protect the Earth from the threat extra terrestrial life forms that are called Bufoanthroids. Her best friend is Zachary, and they are the only two on board to have never set foot on earth, having been born on the ship. This affects them in completely opposite ways, with Ree living for the dream of one day returning to Earth, whilst Zachary is more than happy to spend the rest of his days manning H12 ships and protecting the Earth from threats in space.
To me, this book covered 3 main themes:family, friendship, and coming of age. It was done in a way that was sweet and innocent, showing simply the beautiful side of love. It was a warm read and even the villains you couldn't help but just feel bad for.
Ree is a sweet girl of 17 that has to deal with the fact that her mother was murdered the day she was born. It affects her in many ways but she is still so innocent, and doesn't harbour that much hate to be honest. The most important thing in her life is her best friend Zac, and she has to learn to figure out just why she feels jealous when he turns his eyes to the hot girl in their class.
The first half was a little slow for my taste, but it really picked up when Ree started to question what she had, or rather hadn't, been told and goes in search of answers. The mystery behind her mother's murder and the cloudiness surrounding the day that leaves it unclear as to what exactly happened had me intrigued and reading on and on just wanting to find out what had happened. She acts slightly too immature for my taste, in terms of coming across much younger due to her childishness, but then that's to be expected when she's the baby of the entire ship.
The plot itself wasn't overly complicated but very captivating, and the writing kept you hooked and wanting to read on. My only disappointment was the rather quick ending, as I found it slightly anti climatic.
The secondary characters such as Blaire and Zac's brothers were so entertaining, and it was so refreshing seeing these adults from a lone teenagers perspective. They definitely added to the story and gave it a lot of its funny scenes!
In terms of the Sci - Fi elements, I don't happen to be much of a Sci Fi reader and have only just started getting in to this genre, but this book was perfect for me in that sense because it didn't bog me down with two much sci Fi terminology or elements, but was still futuristic and awesome!
All in all I adored this book, and found it to be a quick, entertaining read. My actual rating would probably be around 3.75 maybe? But what the heck I just rounded up! Especially considering its only the first in the series. So 4 awesome space stars it is!
*This book was kindly sent to me in exchange for an honest review*
First, thank you to L.A. Sees and Goodreads for the Firstread opportunity. This is only my opinion and just because I don't think highly of the book doesn't mean it's not a great book.
The positives. A well written YA book with great character development and plot. Good lead into the second book. This is the only reason I'm giving this book 3 stars, and I'm being very generous.
The negatives. -A very short book. I blazed through this in 2 short nights. The first chapter is one paragraph. Really?? For a book who's target audience is late teens this book is way too short.
-It seems to me like there was too much character development and based on the size of the book I felt it really took time away from developing side stories, sub-plots etc.
-Anticlimactic. Not a lot of excitement. I asked myself numerous times throughout, when is this going to get good? The best part of the book is the last few chapters.
-Bland. Being a teenager is all about hardships, raging hormones, and pushing boundaries. The very little of this that was in the book was mild, diluted and dull.
I hate long reviews so I will end this by saying, overall, I was very disappointed with this book. There was so much potential in the storyline, plot and characters....but that's all there is.
Okay, first of all this book was fantastic. I don't usually read books that fall into a sci-fi genre, but I am so happy that I decided to read this. I finished this book in less than a day, and it was just so captivating. The characters are so fun and easy to relate to. The character development was amazing, and that's something I pay attention to the most when I'm reading. Zac and Ree have such a great relationship and I was seriously emotionally invested in their story. The story really stuck with me because it was one that seemed so original to me, and I hadn't really encountered anything like it before. I could make this a long review, but it would consist mostly of "this book is fantastic you seriously have to read it." So I'm going to end it by saying, this book is fantastic you seriously have to read it. Seriously. You will find yourself pulled into a whole new world.
This was a great book by a new author. I'm not much for the sci-fi genre but this made me a fan. Ree's journey throughout the story and her love of the past make her an easy character to love. Zach, like many teenage boys, drives you crazy but you know he has a good heart. I enjoyed the banter between Ree and Zach as well as the friendship that they both shared. I was brought to tears whenever Ree thought about her mother. I'm not sure if it's because I am a mom myself, but it was just beautiful. I am looking forward to reading the rest of the books in the trilogy.
I had to rate this book a 5/5. It was just amazing! I was hooked from the first page, and I really enjoyed reading it. Ever since I saw this book, I knew that I wanted to read it. And I did not regret it. I would recommend this book to anyone!
I really loved the story line, and all of the leads it took. I wished this book never ended, but - It was well worth it. I would read it again in a heartbeat!
