The topic of surrender is seldom written about because it is often misunderstood. In a world in which the basic message is that you have to make sure you get all your rights, it doesn't make much sense to voluntarily surrender yourself to someone - even if that "someone" is the all-powerful, all loving God of the Universe. But the Bible brings a different message: You find your life by losing it for God.
If you're distressed, you're not surrendered to God. Use that as the yardstick to measure the degree to which you're surrendered. The best part of this book for me was the appendix, where Ferguson talks about three areas of God's will in our lives. First, our shared mission with other Christians to make disciples. Second, our moral mission to live holy lives. Third, our individual mission to live out the plans God has for us.
