Binge this fast-paced, fierce, laugh-out-loud funny urban fantasy series in a complete omnibus now! Getting possessed by a demon wasn’t on my to-do list. I was just too busy for that sort of thing.I had a fifty-hour work week, a hellraiser of a toddler, debilitating morning sickness and a husband who thought his only job was taking out the trash. I was at breaking point.
I don’t remember being possessed, or attacking Terry, or my local priest pulling the demon out of me and trapping her in a banana (with the help of a stranger, a badass girl who apparently wrangled supernatural creatures for a living.)
But the aftermath was wild. Terry promised he’d try harder, and give me more support.
He lied. And I broke.
So… I ate the banana. I absorbed the vengeance demon.
She’s a part of me now, sharing my body; we’re like two people in a car. Most of the time, I’m driving. Sometimes, I let her take the wheel.
She’s the rage of wronged women; the vengeance of the vulnerable, wild justice for the oppressed. She can hear bad thoughts, she can sense evil intentions. She can tell when someone wants to abuse their power, and she whispers their secrets to me.
She also eats the internal organs of evil people… which is a little awkward, since I’m a vegetarian.
Binge all four books in this bestselling

How much can go wrong by eating a banana? Well, not much unless that banana happens to be the holding space of a powerful vengeance demon. Luckily, Sandy is in need of some vengeance.
Enter Mavka, the gorgeous avenging demon that Sandy didnt know she needed. This is a journey for both Mavka and Sandy as they work together (and sometimes in opposition) to make the world safer for women and more dangerous for evil (only truly evil) men.
This series is a must have for anyone who is looking for some gratuitous revenge, resilient heroes, smexy non-human men, and the best friends a girl or demon could ask for.
The bloodthirsty vengeance demon here is a pontianak. Being originally from Southeast Asia, a region where many still believe in such folklore spirits, I was very interested to see how author Lauretta Hignett would handle this in her series.
I was pleasantly surprised, and pleased. Hignett’s take on the pontianak is funny and original, yet respectful of one of Southeast Asia’s most well-known supernatural entities. I must say I now view pontianaks in a new light.
Sandy, a hairdresser who is the main character of the books, is possessed by a pontianak. When she finally realizes her husband uses her as his personal slave, she leaves him and goes to stay with her aunt in Washington, D.C.
The possession allows her to see D.C.’s supernatural residents, who co-inhabit the nation’s capital with the human residents. Sandy is drawn to the Enforcer—a human police officer who is tasked with policing the supernaturals. As she helps him with his cases, they discover there is a dark force behind the chaos that strives for eternal domination.
I thoroughly enjoyed the books. I love Hignett’s characters, both human and paranormal. They have depth and are memorable. Many of them are laugh-out-loud funny.
The overarching plot whizzes along. The stakes get higher, and the books ratchet up in terms of excitement and tension. Don’t skip the last book. It’s a nail-biter.
This boxset included the books “Oops! I ate a vengeance demon”, “Dancing with the vengeance demon”, “Dating with my vengeance demon”, and “Dying for my vengeance demon”.
This series was both hilarious and incredibly emotional. It follows the adventures of Sandy, who was first introduced in the Imogen Gray series. While I read Imogen first, I’d say you could read this as a stand-alone, if you really wanted to.
Sandy is a small-town hairdresser, is in an abusive marriage, has an abusive boss, and a controlling mother. She has a toddler and is pregnant. One day, she is possessed by a “vengeance demon” (actually a manifestation of a goddess of abused women). The demon is exorcised, but after events come to a head, Sandy is “repossessed” and starts taking control of her life. In a very satisfying manner.
She moves back to Boston, and learns about the magical world which she is now a part of. With a fantastic circle of friends, her black-sheep aunt, and a very handsome police detective, she embarks on a series of adventures which challenge the insidious and meteoric rise of misogyny and patriarchal control in the guise of “traditional values”.
The series is fun and fast-paced, with witty banter and well-developed characters. That said, it touches on some pretty dark themes that some readers may find difficult.
I really enjoyed this series, and look forward to reading the sequel series about Sandy’s best friend, Prue.
Only noticed a few minor things that were off, but nothing too major. There were a couple of times background characters were mentioned in a corner or something, but after the action, they didn't come back up. Also, there were a couple of passages that cut off & repeated, but it could be the Kindle app. I loved these characters, although, the plot of sexist men gets a bit monotonous, reading all the books as quickly as possible like I did. I know it's a symptom of the evil magic in the story, but there were just SO many evil, awful men everywhere. Makes me grateful to know the wonderful men I have in my life! Now I'll be using my next few paychecks to buy Imogen's, Prue's, & Chloe's books to read the rest of the story. Well-rounded characters, quirkiness, mystery, supernaturals, bad-ass women, & a great on-going plot. What's not to love?
A brilliant offshoot to the Imogen Gray series. Here we meet Sandy, a young woman who has been repressed by her religious mother and abused by her selfish husband to the point that she collapses, has a miscarriage, and in a moment of fury, eats the banana containing a vengeance demon. Don't worry, the prelude explains how the demon got in the banana!
I smiled and chuckled my way through this book, even though a vengeful demon is eating all the bad people, this is so well written that you see the funny side and can't help chuckling.
No longer repressed, Sandy becomes the bad ass woman she's always supposed to be, and with her friends by her side starts to live her life again, even if her eyes are newly opened to the supernatural world around her.
The demon is wonderfully feminist, out to get justice for all abused women, and the sexy detective, Sinclair, just leaps off the page. So many opportunites for mayhem and mishap.
Sandy is worn out her lazy good for nothing husband refuses to help with their toddler or cook or clean -well you get the point. So when a vengeance demon possesses her she finally admits the marriage is over and it's time to take Dexter and leave taking the vengeance demon with her. Sandy decides to go and stay with her aunt Marche to pick up the pieces of her life and her college friends are here to help! Everything is fine until the vengeance demon awakens and Sandy is drawn into the supernatural community fighting an awful group of men who wish to control women. I thought these books were satisfying to read!
You know how you stumble upon a new author through the whims of kindle unlimited and you think to yourself man I hope they have a ton of books I can read now? Lauretta Hignett is one of those authors. Somehow her books strike the perfect balance of strong female lead who doesn’t need a man but there is still romance and a story that is so interesting and compelling you don’t want to put it down but light enough for a perfect escape. Great news too she has a ton of books. I’m going to happily read them all
GREAT SERIES! Wonderful plot and storyline, fascinating characters, action packed and thrilling! So thrilling that I had to put it down in some places to get my stress under control! I was seriously upset at the thought of Sandy putting herself in terrible danger…yet again! You will LOVE this book and you won’t be able to put it down…not for very long, anyway!
I borrowed each of these books through Kindle Unlimited but loved them so much that I bought the box set! The characters are unique, there's lots of action, it's funny at times, and it fits in great with the three other series this author has written in this world.
OMG! This lady is a brilliant writer. Loved this series. The last book was a doozy. The truths that came out! Love Prue. So funny. The tales are on the dark side but that gives it a bit of spice. Just off to start the next series.
I really loved Sandy's story. She started off and a complete pushover , but with help from a vengeful demon goddess and some great friends she found her place in the world and got to live her dream. Wonderful story.
I laughed out loud, I loved this book. It had it all. Magic, terror, action, family ties ,love and hate. A wild roller coaster of magic and mayhem. What a ride.
