For more than a decade, viewers have been thrilled by the real-life exploits of the police officers on the television show, COPS. The Jump-Out Boys, by Hank J. Barr, takes the reader along the filming as seen through the eyes of a veteran audio man and producer. From the comic to the tragic and all places in between, the efforts of police officers across the country are revealed in all their diversity. The author presents a positive picture of law enforcement officials because that is what he saw in his seasons with the show. Forever changed by his experiences, Mr. Barr will not take police officers for granted any time soon. The reader of this book will feel the same way.HANK J. BARR holds a Bachelor of Arts in Broadcast Communication from San Francisco State College and has worked in various areas in television, including writing, acting, cameraman, audio man and Producer. Currently, Mr. Barr is an audio field recorder and Associate Producer of COPS. In his spare time, the author enjoys studying American history, live steam railroading, landscaping, gardening, cooking, and model building.
If you are a Cops fan, you should definitely read it. It was a decent read but too much of it fell flat for me. The author's tone just didn't work with me, and it got too repetitive halfway through. It felt like he was writing this for his friends instead of Cops viewers. Maybe the book will jive with you. For someone who clearly isn't a writer, the author didn't do a bad job.
The book was a great behind-the-scenes look at one of my favorite TV shoes. I loved hearing the inside story. If I had one criticism it would be regarding the editing/proofreading. There were errors on every page.
