I was waiting for the release of this book with bated breath! As far as I am aware, I own all of the design books by this author. His work manages to be both classic and fresh which is not an easy feat to accomplish. Both the text and the gorgeous photographs make this book a winner to me. I had to chuckle at the designer’s comment about how books should not be organized by color. I wholeheartedly agree, and that is a hill that I am prepared to die on! Overall, I am exceptionally pleased with this purchase and proud to add this book to my ever expanding design and architecture library.
A focus on traditional English design. Beautiful photography and architecture as you can predict from a Rizzoli table book. Definitely confirms for me, that while I love the Hollywood version of British homes, those depicted here really emphasize bright wall colors and an over abundance of decorative objects and patterns. While I adored the moldings, by the end, all the stuff made me claustrophobic.
4.5 stars. Pentreath's familiar and personable voice is, as always, refreshing and the book, though hefty, is an accessible read. Theplanned communities, which reference historic design and aim for greater sustainability, that Pentreath is designing are of interest. Recommended if you like English trad style.
Beautifully written and photographed book by one of Britain's leading architect and interior designer, working from a traditional perspective, yet pushing boundaries. Inspirational.
