I love this series! I was totally upset they tried to take away his pet! But it turned out ok. I am looking forward to reading the rest in this series!

Copy and paste from volume 4:

I like this arc, still lighthearted and fun but hinting at more to come

Copy and paste from volume 2:

Overall I think the art is doing a good job of reminding us that he is still only 4 years old although at times I feel like they (him and the elf girl) do come off more like elementary school kids so notices sure why they didn’t give him a few more years at home learning concepts and then having an 7-8 year old to venture with his parents to get a mentor as it would have maybe more sense for the elf girl to have the conversation they have at that age as I don’t know if a “normal” 5 year old would have talked with him this way. This is a common issue I have when I read stories with children now that I am a parent, when I was younger and childless I find the give or take of 3-4 years of child development wasn’t noticeable and seemed fine. Now it’s always me going “a 5 year old would do that” or a “10 year would have grown out of that”

Copy and paste below from the previous volume as it still is relevant

So I started this series online as I don’t have patience to wait for the weekly episode update of the anime now that it’s streaming for the spring season.

It reminds me of the Japanese isekai anime/light novel series Mushoko Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation where the reincarnation happens at birth and they basically are born with the consciousness of the past life not just memories of the past or getting the memories in life like at puberty or when they turn into an adult. Not like transmigration “reincarnation” isekais where they take over the body of someone that’s died and they may or may not have the memories of the previous person.

One of the main differences, for the better in my opinion, is that the MC isn’t a pervert. In Mushoko Tensei he was a 30 something incel basically so notices his mom’s breasts when he’s a baby and obsesses later for an entire arc over not being able to get it up after losing his virginity at around 14 and then being left like a one night stand.

I really appreciate that the MC, Arthur, in this series is NOT obsessed with sex or a pervert. Rather then reincarnating from modern day korea he was a King in another world and while seems to have been a cold tyrant as he rose to power he’s quite rational and calm in his new life, and him learning what it means to have family ties and to care about people we see a lot of emotional growth.

We get funny comedic breaks as he struggles with adjusting to a baby body and his lack of control over it. Like being embarrassed that he soils his diaper. Over all I really enjoy this arc as he learns the magic structure of this world and apply his knowledge and skills from his past life to adapt to this world.

Jealousy has exploded---and Art is now fighting the king for the chance to keep Sylvie. It's a reminder that in order to live freely, he needs strength. And that will determine his future plans . . .

This is another fun volume. Arthur knows Sylvie is special, but what he hasn't realized until now is that other people can recognize that too, and will try to use their own power and influence to take her away from him. To them, she's just a pet. To Arthur, she's the last gift from the one who saved his life, and also the little creature that calls him Papa and acts more like a baby sibling than a pet. So just the suggestion that she could be taken wakes up his darkest impulses.

His decision at the end to focus more in the moment on building his personal power is also related to this. And the exam at the end gives a nice glimpse of some future characters that will come into play later.

Overall the plot is building nicely. Art is doing a terrible job hiding himself in general, but he's starting to wise up to the need to be more cautious. Highly Recommended.

Le possible rapprochement Elijah / Arthur me plaît bien.

Knew that Sebastian would try take Sylvie! Lots of action in this book. We get a glimpse of how powerful Arthur is though he still trying to hide it. He also gets a very cool sword! Can’t wait to read the next one and see how he gets on as an adventurer, assuming we will see him let his powers loose more. I

The King's sorcerer is after Sylvia and his attempts to take her lead to Arthur getting... rough. Twice.

Then we move on to how Arthur becomes an adventurer and a couple of new faces that could (hopefully) become characters that stick around for more than a few chapters.

So he can alter time? And kick ass to defend Sylvie!

Whew! Good fight! Good test! Disguise and ranking lower than actual lol. I wonder who her family is to gain such respect and allowances......

I've definitely forgotten some tags. "Substance abuse" is there, though, because in the manhwa, Arthur apparently slips alcohol into his drink when no one is looking despite being *eight years old* (physically) and still not adjusted to his current body.

The anime leaves this out, of course. Easy to do, though, since it's inconsequential, hard to animate, and a throwaway "notes written in the margin"-style sight gag.

I'm aware of the anime being somewhat poorly rated (though I can't be bothered at the moment to cite sources for that... maybe if I edit later), and some of that I can now attest to small things being changed around or removed like this. Overall, I can't completely fault the anime for being what it is; I think they did a good job working with what they have. I also have no particular expectations for the series, though, so maybe that puts me at an advantage.

This is the first book I didn't (fully) read before the corresponding episode, which is interesting. Probably from the comparable lack of time elapsed between when I watched and read, though, I definitely find I was able to remember what happened better than with the other volumes, to compare to how the anime treats the same scenes. As mentioned, a few parts got switched around, and the anime pads out how Sylvie wandered off, so it's not as close to a perfect 1:1 match-up like in other series. As of this writing, the episode for Arthur's testing (as "Note") hasn't come up yet, so we'll see how that's handled.

Probably also because I just finished reading Sushi Girl, though, I took a deeper notice of the backgrounds in the manhwa, which largely appear to be computer-rendered rather than hand-drawn (especially for things like building interiors and furniture). I expect this is a Redice Studio thing, since it looks a LOT like backgrounds I've seen specifically in other Korean web comics. Tavicat still seem to be the only ones doing (or... having done?) the flourishy colourful computer-rendered backgrounds like in their earlier works, though.

I think the manhwa and anime are still both pretty decent, though not my fave by a longshot. I may have just read this general story too often, perhaps (reincarnated "genius" child tapping into past life knowledge). Good read, but definitely very difficult for newcomers to pick up starting from this volume.
