A Dark Paranormal Romance: Now the full book, no novellas.
A new black world, ruled by deadly dark fae, and even deadlier bargains.
Fans of Laura Thalassa, C.N Crawford and Amelia Hutchins will love this!
Some families in this eternally dark village are fortunate; their ancestors - the first surviving humans after the Last War - made bargains with dark fae royals and warriors. My family is one of the lucky ones. Or so I thought...
The seventh prince of the realm comes to collect his yearly bounty. And what he wants to take is no longer the midnight apples from the field we harvest. He wants to take me-- April, a sickly human of no use to anyone, let alone a dark fae prince.
QUINN BLACKBIRD is a wanderer, a caffeine addict, a concern to her teachers & a bit of a dork. You can find Quinn buying gym equipment she never uses or being dragged out of the writing cave by pesky friends. Mention "margarita" and she'll come ah-runnin.
QB's goal is to live on a farm with rescue animals and write!
Now beware!! Blackbird writes about everything she loathes. This makes for books that are darker, grittier, anti-heroes, messed-up characters, and dark worlds. It's not a guarantee you'll find redemption in her pages. Because, as Gaslight Her warns, 'sometimes, the villains win.'

My fault for not reading the previous series. Nothing happens in this book. The tag has enemies to lovers but that was untrue. This novella has no plot, no action and there was no time to connect with the characters.
I am always super stoked everytime I see a new book by Quinn Blackbird. This one is the first book of a brand new series (set in the same dismal world I fell in love with a couple series ago!) with new characters and a new storyline. I'm already hooked (again!).
The prince of the dokkalves has a history with April's family. When he visits to collect his apples, April tries to remain hidden, just as she always has. This time, due to her poor health, she has a coughing fit and the prince hears her. After meeting her, he claims the apples aren't good enough and decides on a new bounty.
I am loving the new characters and the new series. I can't wait to see what happens next. Definitely recommend for fans of dark romance if you like the fae.
This was really good, considering so much fluffy pc junk out there. I loved this. Two drawbacks caused me to ding this a star. This is a four part series and very cliffy on the first three books. The fourth part being the epilogue. Also the author needs a good editor. I do however like her writing style.
The atmosephere and male mc are reminiscent of The Silver Devil, except in a dark fae dystopian world. The dark fae treat humans like cattle. They are cruel and barbaric. In this book there are main characters not heros or heroines. This is a dark book and I find it quite refreshing to find something edgy and gritty without being pornographic and all sex. I recommend this. It's not perfect but it's addicting. I will read more of this author. This was a nice escape. For those of you who like dark gritty books, give this a try.
Boring. This is basically an intro to the series, only 60 pages long. Writing was just ok, but the book couldn’t keep my attention.
The h is a colorless, pale faced girl with mud brown eyes. She’s the plainest one out of her sisters, and even the guy she messed around with in the past wants her sister instead of her. Oh and since she whined about how big her hips are, I guess she’s chubby too.
Why do I keep running across drab heroines like this…. In any case, she’s Ill with a cough. The H is of course super model gorgeous.🙄🙄🙄🙄
Maybe if you’re into plain Jane heroines, you might like this series?
Me, I can’t stand romance novels when the H is prettier.
I'm a little confused as this is my first book in this universe- it was free on Kindle. Since its a rapid release series, book 1 is only 65 pages and is just a brief introduction to the characters and places the building blocks for the rest of the books.
New World is the first book Quinn Blackbird’s Dark Fae: Black World and it definitely packs a punch! This author is a master at world-building and with all the action, suspense and twists and turns within this well-written storyline, readers are definitely in for a treat. A dynamic start to a brand-new series that will leave your hungry for more and anxiously awaiting the next thrilling instalment.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
I just finished the first TWO books of the Black World series by Quinn Blackbird and OMG 😲 you guys! I am OBSESSED!!! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Ok SO MUCH to say!! 🙌🏻
FIRST and MOST important! This is NOT FOR EVERYONE ☠️! Y’all that know me by now with my ‘emoji’ reviews 😜… know that I LOVE ❤️ ALL sorts of books! So my main goal with these reviews is that yes, they are entertaining 🤪… but that ultimately you see this and know IMMEDIATELY if this is a book for you or not (since I personally love all kinds of genres & tropes!) That way it’s a win-win 🏆 for both reader and author! 👏🏻
And this book is… WOW 🤩! If you don’t like STEAM 🔥, scroll-on-by! If you don’t like DARK romance, scroll-on-by! If you don’t like a truly BAD 😈 MMC VILLAN with an enemy-to-lovers trope, scroll-on-by! If you don’t like dubious consent 😬… please scroll-on-by! Again, this is NOT for EVERYONE!!
Ok so now that I have those warnings ⚠️ covered… you guys, I am SO OBSESSED 🖤🖤🖤. This is a Rapid Release format (she releases pieces of the books at a time, which is why I’m writing this on Book 1 and Book 2 because together, they feel like one complete book to me) … from a really unknown author and I just stumbled upon it while searching Amazon last night! And let me tell you… I read the 'Look Inside' and I was HOOKED 🙌🏻. But then I saw that it didn’t have great reviews 😢, so I moved on! But that 'Look Inside' just nagged at me… I had to go back 🏃🏻♀️! It was calling me… “Rebecca ... Rebecca …Rebecca… please come read me ” 😆! So I went back and looked at the reviews once more and you know what?!? 😠😠😠 This is one of those authors where people are clicking “helpful” on the bad reviews in order to get them to jump to the top reviews section 😲! Just like what happened with Stephanie Hudson! 😡 This is SO WRONG and it makes me SO ANGRY 😤 that people would do this to an Author who has poured their heart ❤️ & soul into their work! So once I saw that … I was like…. Hellllll No!! I’m gonna give this a shot! And boy! I am SO GLAD I DID! 🥳🥳🥳
So this book is about a sort of apocalyptic world where the DARK FAE swept in, brought the darkness, and killed like, most of the humans 😬. Only few remain and their sole role is to provide a yearly bounty to the Fae in the form of goods. Enter 👉🏻 our FMC 👏🏻. She’s 26 and sickly 🤕. Every year when the Dark Prince 👑 comes to reap her family’s fruity bounty, she hides from him since weak humans are cruelly discarded in this world of no sun ☀️ and no moon 🌙 ! This is a tactic that successfully works year after year… until it doesn’t 😉. Leaving our heroine wondering if the bounty given was ever really supposed to be the crops 🍎 her family grows or… something much more? 💋🔥
OMG the world building is SO FANTASTIC 🙌🏻 in these books! I was sucked in from the get go! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 I could SEE 👀 the darkness, FEEL 🌬 the chill, and wistfully reminisce ☺️ about the world (our world) that existed before the EVIL 😈 FAE. I was drawn to her plight, her struggles, her illness. Every time she coughed, I was right there with her! Feeling for her! 🖤🖤🖤 And when her plight begins, I was with her for every minute of her journey… page turning after page turning! Anxious 😬 to see what happened next… NEEDING to know what happened next! 🙏🏻😬🙏🏻😬🙏🏻
And you guys, I’m SO torn up about this MMC 🥵!! This is a AUTHENTIC, REAL enemies-to-lovers! This guys is an ENEMY 🔪 ! No question! And although I usually only like bad boys (who are really good guys ☺️)… I’m just as obsessed with this MMC as this FMC is! He is hot 🥵! He has searing eyes 👀 ! And he cannot look away from our girl! 🔥🔥 But man! He is BAD BAD BAD! And the STEAM!!!! 🔥🔥🔥 Oh my gosh. So steamy 🌶 ! It’s all kinds of WRONG… like Haunting Adeline kind of wrong 😅… but I don’t care, I love it! 🖤🖤🖤 It’s Fantasy! It’s Fantasy, peeps! Not real! But freaking addictive! 🙌🏻👏🏻🙌🏻
And the writing is SO great. Like GREAT 🤩. It reads like a Romance Fantasy… feels like it starts out like a FBAA (ok it’s NOTHING like FBAA … let’s be very clear there! But I was hooked like I was with FBAA) … and for the longest time I couldn’t tell if this was a Romance Fantasy or a PRN 😮! The cover made me think PRN and then when the steam happens, I was like yup… gotta be a PRN 😆! But it totally fooled me for a while because the world building is SO good 👏🏻 and it feels so much like a Romance Fantasy… except it’s super easy to understand! I’m not sitting there re-reading sentences trying to figure out the descriptions (beautiful 🌈 descriptions in some Romance Fantasies, yes, but still work on my part! 😂😂😂)
So I haven’t read the rest of the books… just the first two books… but I CANNOT wait to start book three 👏🏻! I literally took a beat to write this first because I HAD to get the word out there! I think this author is a hidden gem 💎! She has hardly any ratings and hardly any followers… and based on these two books, that has to change folks! 🤞🏻🙏🏻 And I’m trying to help with that change 💜! I’m not affiliated with this author (or the book biz for that matter,) but I’ve read 100’s of Romance Fantasies, PRN’s, and UFs… and this story (if you like this kind of dark trope) … is up there y’all with some of my favs! So much so, that when searching for more info on this author, I found a post from the AMAZING 🤩 Author RAVEN KENNEDY (Plated Prisoner!) just GUSHING about these book too! So it ain’t just me obsessed, yo! 🙌🏻
So if you like a REAL enemies-to-lover where the MMC is truly a BAD guy, some pretty freaking AMAZING doomsday worldbuilding, a FMC that has an actual illness 🤕 but is doing everything she can to combat 🤺 it, some HOT 🥵 STEAM (and yes, definitely dubious consent scenes😬,) a combo of both Romance Fantasy and DARK PRN, supporting an unknown author, and some pretty gripping page-turning… give this a shot! It’s free on KU and you never know, it may be addictive AILMENT that ensnares you!
Before I begin my review for New World (Dark Fae, Black World book 1 {Third series in the Dark Fae World}) by Quinn Blackbird, I would personally like to thank the author, publisher and Booksprout for the opportunity to read this ARC and I have reviewed it honestly.
A hundred years have past since the Dark Fae destroyed our world with impenetrable darkness, plague and war. Aprils' ancestors were apart of the last of the human race who were allowed to live in our world. April is a sickly farm girl with little hope for a happy future. It couldn't possibly get worse for her... until it does. The Dark Fae Prince has come to collect his annual bounty. This year, he wants her.
New World features, but is not limited to, the following themes: ○ Dark fantasy ○ Adult ○ Fae ○ Dystopian ○ Slavery ○ Novella- rapid release series
My overall rating for New World is…
4.5 Stars!
I've said it once and I'll say it a hundred times mores, Quinn Blackbird is the queen of dark fantasy! New World is a brand new series in the Dark Fae world and is an alluring introduction to the series. The dystopian world Blackbird has created with the Dark Fae novellas is spooky and surreal, and I really enjoyed taking a dip into the future with this one. I have always loved the twisted, dark and debatable plots Blackbird thinks up, as well as the unlikely main characters. I look forward to continuing this series and getting to know our new dark Prince and his wicked desires.
I'm not a serial book reader. I'm a one and done kind of gal, but I also know a lot of fantasy romances will evolve over several books. I am aware of what a cliffhanger looks like, but the abrupt stop in this book feels like a serial story. We spend 70% of the book in the FMCs head with not a lot of forward movement, just world building. The last 30% is finally something with the "relationship." Even then, the story feels half done. Writing isn't terrible. It's nice to have an FMC who is older, 26, a little round, maybe a Size 4 or 6, and sweet. The pacing was incredibly off, and the story was boring at times. I'm sure Part 2 is ok, but I don't know if I can read another 150+ pages of just her thoughts.
I loved this series much more than the Princes' Prisoner one because I found the leads' relationship and overall plot to be better written. The previous series had several instances where important confrontations (leads' reunion and the H's groveling) were glossed over or told to me, but not shown. I was so happy that this wasn't the case here: Every important confrontation btw the leads resulting from previous buildup were shown to me in detail.
But more than anything, I loved the H's character growth: His initial reluctance to accept his feelings for the h and how those feelings slowly morphed into an all-encompassing love/obsession was very well done. He may be ruthless/cruel, but would do anything for the h and will never let her go. I'm a complete sucker for well-written villainous male leads who's only soft spot is the female lead and this series completely succeeded in this aspect. In addition, the author's writing is smooth/addictive and completely sucked me into the world/characters.
The biggest weakness is our h's characterization: She was wishy-washy, indecisive, illogical, and unreasonable. The trajectory of her feelings for the H is also very confusing: She seemed to be falling for him (also was in awe of him from the start -kind of disappointing) and it was more than just lust because she gets jealous at the thought of him with someone else, yet she still claims not to love him at all.
Generally, in a dark romance with a cruel enough H, I don't mind a h who withholds her affections to the very end, but it has to be convincing. In this case, the h fails to convince me and she just comes off as someone who's clueless about what she wants and is irritating to read about. Lol, I much preferred Callie from the Prisoner series as she also never quite warmed up to the H in there to the very end, but is much more convincing being she never displayed jealousy and was hardly ever in awe of the H. The H's actions in there were also much crueler than Daein's, so it made perfect sense why she'll never truly forgive him. This h is no Callie.
Lastly, similar to the Princes' Prisoner series, the ending's also rushed. But the overall plot and hero's character arc mesmerized me enough to give this one 4 stars.
IF YOU HAVEN'T READ THE PREDECESSOR OF THIS SERIES, DON'T START THIS ONE. I SAW MANY READERS GETTING CONFUSED BECAUSE THEY DIDN'T. Well, it also doesn't make you appreciate this new world as much either, because this story takes place years AFTER Dark Fae.
DNF @Book 3 - Her Villain.
MAY CONTAIN SPOILERS, SO PLEASE PROCEED AT YOUR OWN RISK.
Now guys, I'm not giving up on this because it sucks. Book 1-3 was awesome, but then later I wasn't sure why the author had to throw in the drama of the heroine claiming not to love the hero at all. 3 books latera and all the shit they've been through, and the things they've done/sacrificed for one another...and also the birth of their daughter and she's acting like a celebrity mother on pills because she's depressed?
I don't get it.
The flow was good. And the male lead was everything I was hoping for in Quinn Blackbird's story. Add in the fact their daughter's a spoilt bitch...ughh that ruined it for me too. The story has a time skip and I liked that fact, except there was a lot of interruption from the antagonist and basically their legitimate HEA would have to wait until the final book, because I saw a few people stopped at the fourth book? Guys, you have to read till the end for the full HEA, but then again who am I to say anything when I ditched this? Haha.
OVERALL I preferred two DARK FAE stories before this one. New World certainly had a NEW feeling to it, but I can't say I liked the heroine for sure this time. Sometimes she's mopey, then she's like a little girl experiencing first CRUSH not love....even if she's the Prince's fated Evate...I think I liked Vale more even though I complained that she was a heartless bitch. At least Vale had more spunk and courage that I enjoy in a heroine.
I would have given this book more stars but the smut language was a bit childish. HOWEVER, I got sucked in immediately. I’m an enemies to lovers WHORE and I loved everything about this plot. It’s a super short book and I’m already wrapped up in the second one ✌🏻
I love this author, and I love this series. It's 2am and I just finished the first book. I cried, I laughed, I kicked my legs in the air, and I enjoyed the spice! Can't recommend it enough
Black World is the new series in the Dark Fae universe and New World is the first book in the series. I have loved the Dark Fae from the very first series so was excited to hear there was more coming. The difference is this series is set in the future from the first two series.
The Dark Fae allow a certain amount of survivors to live on earth and basically work for them. They are guarded and have to pay bounty to continue to live. April is a sickly girl who tries her best to hide from the Prince each time he visits, although he has some sort of bargain with her family. But this time she becomes the bounty and is taken to the Dark Fae world as his new slave.
I read this book in a day and like previous series I was hooked from the beginning. I really liked how this is set in the future so we now get to see what happens after the a Dark Fae first arrived, as well as being set in the Dark Fae world. I am looking forward to reading how the relationship and the Prince’s relationship develops.
Like the previous series the books are shorter but are a rapid release series. It you loved the first to Dark Fae series then you definitely need to start this series!
I'm in love with these. The fact that there's no happily ever after as you know of for romance novels, makes them all that more. ( they are happy ever afters, just not the way you're used to. ) You have to rethink even those dark romances where they see past the monster, see the good, love them all the more, yadayada. The realness of the, at odds even in the last chapter, brings new light to a realistic way to end a book, and shows even more just how authentic this author is. These woman, yes accept their monsters, to a point, and they also bring a change to them through their love and stubbornness. They put their foots down and, even scared for their lives, do what they feel is right. I bought all of them in book form and am looking forward to anymore she brings out of these dark fae. I can't say that I have a least favorite, Thought it was Cliffs till I re read them and realized I love his more than I remembered. Coralie is so well written you really feel the character and her journey. Love them all. Found myself wanting more and more chapters when it was over. Sure I'll be re reading these very soon. I can only hope for the mens points of view. Love seeing both angles.
Unfortunately, this one just wasn’t for me. The premise felt pretty typical, girl gets sold to the fae land and falls in love. It didn’t bring anything particularly unique to the table, and I found myself getting bored at certain points. I kept waiting for something to hook me, but it never quite did.
The main character was... okay. She wasn’t bad, but she didn’t stand out either. By the end, I found myself pretty annoyed with her, which didn’t help my overall enjoyment. On the flip side, I actually came around to liking the male main character (MMC) by the end of the book. He starts out as the stereotypical arrogant, brooding type, but I could tell that was intentional, and he did grow into a more likable character as the story progressed.
Overall, this book was just okay for me. It wasn’t anything special, but I wouldn’t say I hated it either.
I enjoyed this introduction to the Dark Fae: Black World series, which is set 100 years after Dark Fae: Extinction. The earth is still shrouded in darkness following the Last War and conditions for the human survivors remain harsh. I liked the imagery of this world and the depiction of day-to-day life for April and her family. This installment is a quick read, leaving me curious as to April’s true purpose within the fae prince’s castle - especially given that she’s a sickly human and weaklings tend to be targeted by the fae.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Great start to this series. I love the back story and how the author write this new world perfectly for you to feel you are in the middle of. The dynamics of the Dark Fae and humans is right in my love fest of books but still remains unique to this series. April is not like most of the other humans but she does not allow her illness to rule her. This is a quick read but grabs your attention immediately and will keep it to the end.
A new series set in the same world as the two previous dark fae series, this book was a fast read with so many details and intricate world building that will have you in awe at the writing. The characters, April and the prince, were engaging and had me wanting to know everything about them. There's action and suspense in this book, and have you longing for more as soon as you finish. As a rapid release series, you won't have to wait long to see what happens next!
