Falling for Summer

One Happy Summer

Rate this book
Running away from my disastrous career to an island off the Florida coast wasn't part of my summer plans, but life hasn't been cooperative lately, anyway. At least here, I can hide away and figure out how to untangle the mess I've gotten myself into.

One thing is certain: my A-list status and title of America's Sweetheart are long gone, and they're probably never coming back. I'll just remain on this island until the worst of it blows over. Until the gossip magazines move on to another juicy topic. Until the paparazzi lose interest.

The problem is, I'm feeling pretty bored and lonely. Sneaking into town and grabbing a book to keep me occupied turns out not to be my best move. Because what I absolutely don't need is Briggs Dalton, the man who runs the shop. He's handsome and funny, and I can’t stop thinking about him.

Briggs believes that despite the chaos that is my life, I can still have a fun summer, and he's determined to prove it to me.

Maybe, just maybe, this summer could turn out to be a happy one after all.

Presley & Briggs
Presley is hiding out on the island after an unbecoming video of her lashing out goes viral. She’s bored with sneaking around the island in her hoodie and sunglasses. Somehow she keeps ending up at the bookshop to see the handsome man with great recommendations.

Briggs is working at his family’s bookshop after his startup company flops. What a sweet fella he was. He had a wonderful relationship with his mom and 14 year old sister. Loved what his apartment looked like, too.

Absolutely could not stand that 3rd act, no surprise there. But the accusatory remarks were for the birds. And what she did to save her career back in LA, unacceptable. Also, really with Presley’s mom…she was something else. Typical mom that pushes her daughter to be in the spotlight because she wants it herself. I could not believe who she was dating either.

Overall, there were some adorable moments and I liked them together a lot. I loved the slow friends to lovers vibes of them getting to know each other. The list of things Presley never got to experience as a child that they did together was really cute, too.

Series notes:
The timeline is the same for each book meaning the characters from other books in the series are in the background, but haven’t necessarily had their story told yet. I like this way of doing things since it doesn’t make it absolutely necessary to read them in order, but it’ll be better if you do. This didn't have too many references to other characters though, which I found odd. Maybe because it was the last one?

Narration notes:
They both did a perfect job.

This story was just plain adorable!!! It gave me all the heart fuzzies.

Briggs & Presley were both so stinkin’ adorable! And their “summer plans” list was just THE BEST! It seriously made me kinda love the season, and want to do all summer fun activities they did.

THE MIDDLE NAME GUESSING WAS ONE OF MY MOST FAVORITE THINGS! (And the way she found out his middle name was *swooonnn*)

I love a good celebrity romance, and this one was done so well! The good, the bad, the ugly…it was fun to see some “behind the scenes” of that world.

Notting Hill has been on my “to watch” list for the longest time, but this just bumped it up the list. I can’t wait to see the parallels!

Seriously, this was such a cute story and I loved being back on Sunset Harbor!

Sadly my least favorite of the series! I felt pretty bored reading this one and couldn’t wait for it to be over. I feel bad writing that but I just honestly didn’t love it! It doesn’t feel like the same vibe as the others. I felt so connected to the other characters but not those ones, and the connections between these characters and the others throughout the series isn’t as fun.

Absolutely adored One Happy Summer! It’s another fabulous addition to the Falling for Summer series. I loved this romantic celebrity romance with Notting Hill vibes. There were so many scenes that had me grinning from ear to ear.

Briggs is currently working at his mom’s bookshop on Sunset Harbor Island while he figures out what to do with his life since his company startup failed. When a gorgeous woman walks into the bookstore needing a book and a distraction, he has no idea she’s an A-list actress. They hit it off quite well and he decides to play island host while she’s here.

Presley became a star when she was a young teenager & didn’t have much of a childhood. While she’s hiding out on Sunset Harbor Island after an embarrassing video is leaked to social media, Briggs vows to make this a memorable summer for her capturing all those fun things kids & teens would do. From roasting marshmallows to star gazing on the beach, this sweet romcom had all the feels!

I loved Briggs’ hot nerd personality. He’s the ideal golden retriever type. I loved all the ways he tries to help Presley. Presley seems like she might be a spoiled Hollywood type, but it’s just the opposite. I loved how Becky Monson humanized her and made me cheer for her & Briggs’ unlikely romance to succeed. I also loved Briggs’ family. He has a young teenage sister who offers him relationship advice along with her starstruck friends.

I loved the Notting Hill vibes, the constant guessing of Briggs’ mysterious middle name, and all those sizzling kisses! I also enjoyed how Presley was able to enjoy all the fun, simple pleasures of childhood with Briggs’ list. Definitely add this to your must read summer list!

Highly recommend! Though this is part of the Falling for Summer series, each book can be read as a standalone. It’s even better though if you’ve read the previous books in the series as all the books are interconnected and share a similar timeline. This book is a closed door romcom with some instances of mild swearing. I received an advanced complimentary copy from the author. All opinions are my own and voluntarily provided.

“If Briggs is putting a kiss on the table under the guise of practicing for this movie with me, then I’m not passing it up.”

When a bad moment goes viral, Presley James leaves everything behind and escapes to the small island of Sunset Harbor to reset. Her meet cute with Briggs is straight out of a movie and from that moment on, I was all in. Give me a celebrity and a normal person romance any day of the week!

Briggs is dealing with his own stuff, but I absolutely fell head-over-heels for this boy next door. He’s funny, witty, and sweet, but the way he interacts and banters with Presley, also giving her a summer to remember, makes this princess-dwelling man a top favorite.

From s’mores to water fights, sandcastles, and boat rides, to star gazing, running lines, summer nights, and soaking up every experience together, this summermance filled with heated and chemistry-laden kisses delivers all the feels. While this one is a little more reclusive due to Presley hiding out, I was still thrilled to read about the little bits and pieces that connect this story to the series.

Monson has outdone herself with this blazingly satisfying summer romcom. If you love Notting Hill, you’ll adore this one.

I have read five books in this series so far, and I think this one might be my favorite of the ones I’ve read! It was really cute and fun with some very strong summer vibes. I loved the writing style and really enjoyed the progression of the romance. The audiobook narrators did a fantastic job as well!

One Happy Summer is the first book I have read by Becky Monson. It is book six in the Falling for Summer series. Even though I read them out of order, I still recommend reading them in order, although this one seemed the least connected of them all.

Briggs is home and helping his mom run her bookstore because his business venture failed. Presley is on the island because she ran away from her life and is hiding out.

Read for:

🌞opposites attract

🌞summer bucket list

🌞Notting Hill references

🌞Briggs quirkiness

🌞the epilogue

While I am glad I read the book, it was my least favorite of the series. I didn't find the story as engaging or memorable as the other books. It might be because I listened to all of them but I read this one. However, I didn't enjoy the make-out scenes and I don't feel like their relationship was fleshed out well. I could have done with less internal dialogue and more discussions between the main characters.

content warning: mild cussing and overly descriptive kissing scenes involving tongues, previous loss of a parent, and parental issues

This is a delightful and heartwarming escape; a perfect summer read or anytime read if you want my opinion. Hollywood starlet Presley James is reeling from an embarrassing video, so she retreats to the small island of Sunset Harbor to hide from the paparazzi and her overbearing mother at the Belacourt Resort while waiting for social media to cool down. Sneaking out due to cabin fever, Presley meets Briggs Dalton at the town's charming bookstore, where he's working while figuring out his next move after his company start up failed.

When Briggs discovers that because Presley started her career at a young age, she hasn't ever had a happy summer. He's going to remedy that and decides to make this summer one of happy memories, so he puts together a to-do list of all the things she's never done: star gazing on the beach, making s'mores, building sandcastles and more.

One Happy Summer is full of fun banter, swoony kisses and the chemistry between Presley and Briggs will have you smiling. I love the shy, nerdy-tech vibe Briggs gives off and how he's able to get Presley to relax and be as normal as a celebrity can be while hiding out. "This is what I've needed. Someone to hold me, not tell me it's okay or that things will turn out fine. But just be with me."

This is a great addition to the Falling for Summer series. All the books take place on Sunset Harbor Island but each can be read as a standalone, but once you read one of them you're going to want to read the others! This book is a closed door romcom with some instances of mild swearing.

I received an audiobook from Dreamscape Media via NetGalley and loved the story more than when I read the book. I love that it has dual narrators, Abigail Reno and Ryan Stone. I really liked both of their voices and the way they brought Presley and Briggs to life. All opinions in this review are my own.

This is a cute celebrity comes to the island story. Presley James, an A List actress, needs a place to hide out after an embarrassing video is released. She comes to Sunset Harbor, staying at the Belacourt Resort. After a day or two confined to her room she is going stir crazy. She puts on a hoodie and sunglasses for a disguise and heads over to the island bookstore where she meets Briggs Dalton. This is when the adventure begins.

Presley has been in show biz since she was very young. She’s never had a normal childhood or done the common things that most kids experience. She’s hoping for one summer away from the chaos of stardom and hopes to experience one happy summer. Briggs is determined to help her, all while trying to stay under the radar of the paparazzi.

Briggs is the sweet, handsome, nerdy hero in this story. He’s trying to figure out his life and what he’s going to do next. He’s awkward and quirky and very intriguing to Presley.

You will enjoy their fun adventures as their friendship/relationship develops. There are a few swear words. Nothing major.

I really enjoyed this book. I love Becky Monson’s writing style. She hooks you in from the very beginning.

I both read and listened to the audiobook. The narrator was awesome. You need to read and/or listen to this book.

'I haven't had a moment with someone in so long, I think I'd forgotten how it feels. How my stomach does a little dropping thing like I'm on a roller coaster. How my pulse quickens and my palms feel sweaty.'

...that kind of "moment" feeling is how you're going to feel throughout this book. This is a 90's movie romcom reader's dream!! All of the little moments, the big moments and everything in between is 100% sigh worthy.

Celebrity Romance
Opposites Attract
Fish out of Water
Trying to not fall for each other
Friends-to-More
Nicknames, guessing name game

I could go on and on! This was a great binge read that I couldn't put down! I really loved watching these two characters connect! Their opposite personalities make them perfect for each other!! If you want a movie worthy romcom romance to read, I recommend this one for you!

I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

Content: a moderate amount of bible swears, make-outs (tongue mentioned twice), off-page mention of losing a loved one

I LOVE celebrity romances and Becky Monson delivered such a fun one for the Falling for Summer series!

Briggs was just so stinkin adorable and lovable, his quirkiness was so endearing! Having America’s sweetheart, Presley James, fall for this kind of personality was absolutely delightful! The chemistry was off the charts between these two!

This book is the perfect beach read! The summer vibes were through the roof and every scene of the two of them was so much fun. Who knew all these simple summer activities could be so romantic too!?! I was swooning left and right!

I loved Brigg’s family and how the author incorporated them into the story. Briggs’s teenage sister was a fun addition and I liked her spunk!

I highly recommend finding out for yourself about this actress hiding out in Sunset Harbor. We only hear rumors about her or get quick glimpses of her in the other books in the series and she’s so lovable and you’re bound to fall for Briggs!

🔥: Kissing…lots of kissing!
CW: about a dozen Bible swears

Honestly, I was bothered with HOW similar is was to Notting Hill. I understand that was the obvious goal/theme of the book (as credited throughout), but it left hardly any room for originality or intrigue. Way tooo similar—could have toned down the similarities by a substantial amount and had it still be a decent story. It still gets some points though for the cute moments, and I really liked Briggs—he was just very sweet and relatable. I was just expecting something more original, so as soon as I realized it would follow the exact storyline of Notting Hill, it took the wind out of my sails and didn’t give me any room for excitement or anticipation. So if you go into this book with the expectation of reading a Notting Hill story, then you’ll love it.

Presley and Briggs are adorable!!! I loved all of the nods to the movie, Notting Hill. Makes me want to go and watch it now.

Darling storyline, great humor, secondary characters that will have you laughing and loving them, moments that will make your heart ache and feel put back together again! And scenes that will leave you sighing in contentment, and swooning from the chemistry and sheer adorableness of it all!!!

I loved this one a lot!!! I read part of it and then life went haywire busy. I just listened to the audiobook. It made my heart so happy and I could enjoy the whole story while I was busy with the many happenings of life. I've loved all of the books in this series that I've read so far and can't recommend them enough! You won't be sorry. Pick them all up or just read one, or two.

And whenever you read it or listen to it, just know that you're going to want to enjoy your summer doing all the fun childhood things! Just sayin'!!!

Content: Only some sweet kisses. A handful of bible swears throughout the book.

I purchased my own digital book and received a copy of the audiobook from Dreamscape Media, via NetGalley. All thoughts and opinions in the review are my own.

Happy Reading!!!

I've decided I don't like books that have an actor as a main character 99% of the time. It's pretty annoying to me having a character complain about being an actor and being so self centered. The thing that she did isn't that serious, but it's the main conflict throughout the entire book. It's really not that serious, and it's pretty hard to relate to the character because so much of her personality is I'm an actress, and you just don't get it. The fact that she likes him cuz he's dorky just kinds falls flat for me because I really don't care for her that much.

Have you been reading the Falling for Summer series? It's so much fun! I've loved following the island and the people on it.

If you've read Beachy Keen yet, then you know that Noah has someone staying at the resort in his normal suite. It just so happens to be Presley James, who is the FMC in this book. I love when series put the characters in other books! Anyway, I kind of had a love/hate relationship with Parsley-er, Presley. ~giggle~ But to be honest, I think she had that relationship with herself, too.

And Briggs whatever-his-middle-name-is Dalton was just wonderful. I'm not sure how to describe him except to say that I love him.

And now I think I need to watch Notting Hill and see what all the fuss is about.

Caveat:
There is some cussing in this book. Not a lot, but I like to know these things.

These narrators were really good for these characters! It took me a little while to get used to the MMC’s voice, but after some time I didn’t think of it anymore.

Well I’m officially done with the Falling for Summer series and I’m not sure how I feel. On one hand I’m sad, but I can always go back and reread them if I want. I wish there were more stories though because I love Sunset Harbor and all of its quirks!

This was such a fun story and I loved all of the Notting Hill moments! Briggs was the most adorable nerd and Presley was the sweetest movie star and together they made the perfect couple! Their meet-cute was so sweet and all of their summer moments were adorable. It was so fun watching Presley finally get to experience so many “normal people” summer experiences that she was denied because of becoming a movie star at a young age. The kisses were absolutely swoon worthy! 🫠❤️‍🔥

Top moments:
🧚🏻‍♀️ Spilling iced coffee
🧚🏻‍♀️ Briggs’ apartment
🧚🏻‍♀️ First kiss ✨
🧚🏻‍♀️ Grumpy old woman critiquing Presley’s posture
🧚🏻‍♀️ Scout
🧚🏻‍♀️ Jumping on the trampoline
🧚🏻‍♀️ Guessing Briggs’ middle name
🧚🏻‍♀️ Making a sandcastle 🌊
🧚🏻‍♀️ “Betty” fussing about everything
🧚🏻‍♀️ Running lines with Briggs
🧚🏻‍♀️ Discovering “Betty’s” true identity
🧚🏻‍♀️ The ending ♥️

Thank you to NetGalley for the opportunity to listen to this audiobook! All opinions listed above are my own.

Thank you NetGalley and Dreamscape Media for the ARC of this audiobook for my honest review

Cute romance ! The characters were cute and very sweet. The dual POV I loved to. I love to see what they’re thinking behind there looks at each other when they aren’t saying how they feel yet. The town was also adorable the idea of having to walk everywhere was fun. I liked that the third act wasn’t the because one of them did something really really dumb, the whole book was just so reasonable and realistic especially for a romance. It also felt like a time capsule book all the popular books from 2023 and the cookie croissant trend being mentioned will be so cute to read about in the future. And finally but this is honestly my favorite thing about this book is how logical it is ! Like I hate it when characters will forget about what’s going on in life so they can move the plot on, but he actually made sure to get his work done before his plan. If you want to read a cute romance this is definitely great!

This was a really fun dual POV, small town romance between a celebrity hiding out from the paparazzi and a bookish guy stuck wondering what he wants to do with his life while working temporarily at his mother's bookstore. A perfect Notting Hill remix that was great on audio and a perfect way to end the Falling for summer series. This was definitely a standout in the series for me! Many thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for an early audio copy in exchange for my honest review!

A big thank you to Dreamscape Media and Netgalley for the ARC of this book in exchange for my honest review and feedback.

While I definitely had fun getting immersed in this world, and I might even pick up the first five books in the series since this kind of read like a standalone, I kind of wish things would've moved a bit quicker. One of my favorite parts of the book was whenever Presley guessed Briggs' middle name. And the way she found out? UGH. SO cute. They're summer plans also had me in a puddle. I will now be requesting my husband to plan lots of summer stuff for next year. I hadn't really read a lot of celebrity romances before this one and I truly enjoyed how well it was done. There was a little bit of the good, the bad, and the ugly. Overall, it was a great time and I look forward to going back and reading the rest of the series!

This is book six in the Falling for Summer multi-author series and it is a good one! With a hiding out celebrity, trying not to fall for each other, friends to more, and adorable summertime dates on a small island town, this is a really fun summer read.

Things I Loved:
-Possibly Presley James
-Briggs’ apartment 😂
-“‘It’s definitely the sea air . . . or the moment. Or something.’ ‘Or the movie,’ I add. ‘Right..’”
-The list
-“‘You’re kind of my emotional support human.’ I chuckle. ‘Glad to be of service.’”
-Middle name mystery
-Summermance
-Moment-ruining Betty
-Teenage love therapists
-Parsley
-The ending ♥️

Also, if you love Notting Hill, for sure check this one out. I haven’t seen the movie, but it made me want to!

Notting Hill is one of my favorite movies and when I started reading I was instantly reminded of Notting Hill, so I had a little chuckle when the main characters talked about how their situation mirrored the movie.
It was fun following Briggs and Presley’s adventures as Briggs helps Presley have a fun summer doing activities she’s never been able to do.
I always enjoy Becky’s writing and this book is no different. One Happy Summer is a fun summer read. I received an advance reader copy and my review is much own thoughts and opinions.

This is such a sweet read. I’m not big on the celebrity trope but I really liked Presley’s character. She has flaws, she’s down to earth but she tries to be a better person. And Briggs is great! Glad I got to visit Sunset Harbor again. 4 1/2 stars

So, this is a Notting Hill knock-off and just because the author acknowledges the movie throughout the book and makes it seem all so coincidental to the movie, doesn't excuse it from basically being the exact same story line. It was a cute story and I loved Briggs (and Presley at times), but I became so infuriated with how cheap the writing was for being a total copy. I read the last 50 pages on fast forward simply because I wanted to see how much more copying the author did from the movie and it was just more and more. Disappointing.

I wish I could rate this better but I literally did not care about these characters. There was no chemistry. It was boring. The conflict was predictable. I think I skipped the epilogue. I just did not care at all, which was a bummer since I've liked the other books in this group so far.

Ugh. These people are so flat, uninteresting, and bland. There is no chemistry between Presley and Briggs. Their stories are so boring. I really skipped through this because it had no staying power. IMO, this is one to skip.
