In the quiet between worlds, some hearts echo louder than time.
Everyone adores Indigo Wolfe. But all he wants is for someone to truly see him.
Charismatic, beautiful, and reckless, Indigo moves through high school like a legend come to life. People love him easily, desperately. But Indigo wears his popularity like armor so no one knows the truth. Inside, he’s quietly unravelling.
Indigo is haunted by secrets he can’t explain. Like piercing emotions that aren’t his, voices no one else hears, and visions that defy reality. He’s consumed by a magic he doesn’t understand and can’t control. The only logical explanation is that he’s slowly losing his mind.
Everything changes the day he meets her, a girl who truly sees him. A girl he somehow remembers. Because he’s loved her before. In other lives. Again and again.
But fate is never kind for long.
When they’re torn apart, Indigo is thrust into a hidden world of secrets and magic. A world of strange truths and ancient echoes. Here he finds people like him, a family that finally makes sense, who make the world make sense. There’s a name for what he is. His powers are real. His pain has purpose. And there’s a reason he keeps finding, and losing, the same girl, life after life.
As Indigo uncovers the truth about who he is and what he’s capable of, he’s faced with a choice: surrender to fate, or stand against it. For love. For truth. For the self he has never fully known.
Set in the 1990s between the sun-drenched beaches of Sydney and the red deserts of Arizona, DESCENDED is the electrifying first book in a sweeping four-part saga. Ingrid J. Adams is the author of the Descended series, an award-nominated epic paranormal love story steeped in fantasy.
Ingrid’s journey to becoming a writer was anything but conventional. With degrees in business tourism, journalism, kinesiology and nutrition, and a career spanning media, psychotherapy, and energetic healing, her diverse background has enriched her storytelling in ways she never could have imagined.
Today, she lives in chaos by the beach in Manly with her four beautiful boys (five if you count her husband), and her cavoodle (yes, another boy). She's a massive fan of travel, yoga, meditation, farmer's markets, cooking (and eating), ocean-swimming, skiing, and escaping into fictional worlds of her own and others' creation.
Thank you so much to the author and Hazel’s Booktours for sharing an ARC copy of this book with me!!!
Trigger Warnings: mention of domestic abuse, addiction, alcoholism, suicide
“Hurt people hurt other people.”
“She was his centre, his North Star, and he couldn’t fathom the existence of anyone else who could feel like that to him, no matter how far or wide he searched the human race. “
Unexpected wonderful fantasy story with romance and such undeniable pain it will have your heart ache !!!! Indigo’s story was such … so heartbreaking !!!! I didn’t know whether to be happy or sad about what was happening to him every other chapter !!! A boy who is more gifted than anyone else. He will always be different. Unless he decides to be the cool guy at school. But then attracts the attention of the wrong girl. And the the right one comes through. Only for him to live his best teenager years … and then watch it all fall into pieces … along with his own mind. Watching Indigo struggling with himself, his worth and his feelings of not-belonging with anyone or anywhere was awful. But at the same time, the role Robbie and his family, but especially Cordelia, have to play for his life … it felt like the best thing that could have ever happened to him. In a story of souls, magic, sixths senses and a love that keeps on happening at the wrong time, this book will make you go through heaven and hell, only to live you with a cliffhanger that will have you scream for the sequel to come as soon as possible !!!! I can’t wait for it already !!!!
“We knew you were going to be there before you even knew you were going to be there,”
“Being Akasha means you’re a part of something very special, Indi. It means that no matter where you are in the world, we’ll always be family. Because we are your soul family, and we are bound by a bond greater than space and time, life and death.”
I must admit when asked to review DESCENDED, a first time novel by Ingrid J. ADAMS, I was somewhat sceptical. It's always difficult to write something original and fresh. This book delivers in spades! Such a page turner. I could not put it down. ADAMS' cleverly crafted story draws you in from the get go. Her talent for creating relatable characters is amazing. Your fascination with these characters is such that you feel the need to keep reading to find out what becomes of them.
It's hard to pidgeon-hole this book. It crosses genres. I was told I was reviewing a Young Adult novel but in my opinion this book appeals to all ages and classifications. There is something for everyone.
A tragedy of our time is the shocking suicide rate among young boys which makes this book very timely. I believe ADAMS is the mother of 4 young boys and this was one of the prime reasons behind the subject matter. This extremely readable book will offer hope to young confused kids. While a struggling teenage child may not be keen to read a text book, this novel will address unanswered questions in a non-preachy way.
Set around the Northern Beaches in Sydney Australia, highlighting the Aussie culture of the 90's is a clever ruse. It will take older readers on a nostalgic journey back to the music and carefree time of their youth. A time before political correctness was in overdrive.
You know you've read an amazing book when you simply cannot stop thinking about the topic and the characters long after lights out. I guarantee you this book will stay with you long after you've finished reading it. I only hope ADAMS has more in the series. I absolutely have to share the continuing journey of Indigo and Cordelia.
This was a wonderfully nostalgic trip back in time, and I hungrily devoured every word. The characters, plot, & writing were just so fun and touching. Absolutely cannot wait for book two!
If you're looking for a bingable book with the 'hit you in the feels' vibes of reading Stephanie Meyer for the first time, this is it!
TYSM for letting me be an ARC reader for this one.
(I will definitely be including this in one of my weekly tiktok giveaways. @hauntedhousebooks)
I had received a copy of this book in exchange for a read and review.
Descendent by Ingrid J Adams is an enchanting novel of love that transcends time and space. Set in 90s Australia, the book is centered around Indigo Wolfe, a young man who appears to have it all but is deeply broken on the inside. He is lonely and lost.
However, everything changes when Indigo meets Cordelia, a girl who seems to have stepped out of a fairytale. Cordelia and her family welcome Indigo into their circle, and the two quickly develop a deep connection that is inexplicable but unbreakable.
As their relationship blossoms, Indigo's powers and abilities become more apparent, and he is forced to confront the darkness and the forces that covet his powers. The story takes an unexpected turn when Indigo and Cordelia are separated, and Indigo must navigate his way through a world of shadows and demons to find his way back to the girl he loves.
The author weaves an intricate story of love, loss, and redemption, with a cast of characters that are both relatable and fascinating. The plot is well-crafted and keeps the reader engaged from the first page to the last. The author has a way of describing the intricate emotions that the characters feel, making it easy to connect with them and empathize with their struggles.
In conclusion, Descendent is a captivating novel that deals with complex themes of love, loss, and self-discovery. The book is a perfect blend of fantasy and romance, and the characters are unforgettable. The remarkable storytelling skills of the author will keep readers engaged and wanting more.
Thank you so much Ingrid and Hazels Booktours for the arc copy in exchange for a read and review!
✨Ingrid wrote a hauntingly, beautiful YA fantasy story with so much love and hurt. The book was captivating from the first line, and I found myself devouring every page. I love the way this book made me feel empowered and motivated, yet also so deeply sad. I felt so sad for the characters and what they went through, but their development throughout the story was beautiful. The world building and magic system is unlike anything i’ve read before. It was unique and original and I loved reading about it. The story is set over a longer period of time, and I liked watching the characters grow and learn. The characters were wonderful to read about because they felt very real and raw. The side characters were an amazing addition to the story and I cant wait to read more about them.
“A love that spans lifetimes.”
✨This book did an amazing job at including so many mental health themes. Suicide and depression were heavily talked about in this book so please watch out for those! I also loved the different settings! The book mainly takes place in Sedona, Arizona and Sydney, Australia and the vivid descriptions of the lands made me feel like i’ve been there. It was only fitting that a beautiful story was set in beautiful places.
“Hurt people hurt other people.”
The cliffhanger… THAT CLIFFHANGER. wow okay. This is definitely a book you won’t want to miss!!🤎
I wasn't quite sure what to expect from descended. Even once I started the book, I became confused about what I was reading and looked back to be sure I was reading the same book. The author takes a good deal of time to establish a solid landscape but it's well worth it. You have solid characters who you, as a reader, are emotionally invested in and a world that is familiar yet touched with some fantastical mysticism. These are all good ingredients for a solid story. This was a fun and engrossing fantasy novel and I ate it up.
There is a great deal of emotion built into this storyline. You have the gradual development of relationships - - familial, romantic, friendships and so on. In addition to real life issues and storylines, there is also the fantasy based plot of magic and sorcery blended into it as well. It was intriguing and kept my attention. I definitely was pleasantly surprised by this book and look forward to the next one in the series.
Thank you to NetGalley for this ARC. I voluntarily chose to review it and the opinions contained within are my own.
I was hooked the second I started reading! I went to bed at night thinking about the characters lives, as if they were three dimensional people I knew well. I felt welcomed into this special world like it was written just for me.
Descended tackles sensitive topics like mental health, drug use, love, and sex. They are not approached in a way that condemns, trivialises, or glorifies them. They simply are part of growing up and this book reflects that. Although it’s not all serious, I found myself grinning regularly and even laughing out loud at times. I could feel all the emotion Ingrid has put into this book, I felt the love, the happiness and heartbreak.
I absolutely loved this book and all the characters, I can not wait to see where the story goes and will be impatiently waiting for the second book. As a teen I would have been in love with Indigo and as a mother I want to invite Indigo into my family.
I loved this book! I couldn't put it down. A beautiful story, who’s characters really evolve as you dive deeper into the story. So relatable. I felt it was very real and raw in some parts… no holding back on reality of what happens for kids growing up… even if it was in the 90’s. It is an insight of how our kids/teenagers are coping, and that continues now in today’s world even more so. As a woman growing up in the 90’s, and living in Manly for the past 18 years I could reminisce and really connect to where the story took me. I felt a real nostalgia whilst reading, including the music– I loved this!
I’ve not dabbled in much magical realism so I was curious to read Descended, especially because it’s set in the 90’s and written by an Aussie indie author.
Descended is heartfelt, raw and honest. It’s full of love and grief and cruelty and joy. It’s about found family, inner peace, fate and finding your own path.
I loved this book. The way it was weaved together was done exceptionally well. The threads were placed with care and the slow unravelling was so satisfying.
I loved the Australian setting, the way we flip between the ocean waves and the desert of Sedona. I loved the way we started with earlier days and the teenage angst where the relationships foundations were established. I loved the backstories and the future and the concept of the Akasha.
I laughed, I cried, I choked from embarrassment and I raged. This book had all the feels and the zeitgeist of the 90’s. I especially loved how certain songs were weaved in which immediately began to play in my head!
It does address some heavier topics but the author did such a great job in balancing this out with humour and love and hope.
The only reason it lost half a star was because of the middle. I found it dragged a little too long for my taste but I’ll admit it does all link up in the end.
Descended was whimsical, brave and beautifully written. This is a story for those who need a touch of magic and a pinch of nostalgia in their lives.
“… We’re all dealt different hands in life and we’re here to play what’s in front of us as best we can.”
Wow! I can’t say I’ve ever read anything like this before!! And I mean that in all the best ways. I loved this book!
The main characters are 13 at the start of the book and it’s set in the 90’s, which I loved as I was in my teens in the 90’s too. I loved stepping back in time, I loved that they were watching 90210 (gosh I loved that show!), the music references were on point (all my faves) and the lack of political correctness is exactly how life was back then (like it or not).
This book certainly takes the reader on a journey. It’s full of love and also so heart breaking. It’s about inner peace and finding yourself. I went through so many emotions. I loved Indigo and his relationship with the Carlisle family, it was so beautiful and a favourite part of the book for me.
I’m a newbie to the fantasy genre but I found this easy to devour as it was magical realism in real time, in real cities. It was really interesting reading about supernatural abilities, empaths, the after life and fate. It certainly has me thinking about alot of things.
This is definitely a book a wide range of readers would enjoy, but not if you’re looking for something light and easy.
Thank you @shawline_publishing for sending me this copy in exchange for an honest review.
Ingrid J. Adams has the ability to transport you in time, back to the 90s, and intermingle you in between reality and fantasy with 'descended'.
Growing up within the 90s, I can really relate to all of the references. The intermixing of categorical genres is astounding, and the book itself mesmerizes you until you realized you are nearing the end. The complex characterization of relatable and flawed is remarkable, as indicated in Indigo and all the others. The aspects of mental health can be daunting at times, and gives the book a sense of heaviness and weighty dialogue, and this lends to the beautifully romantic love story and found familial love. The amount of emotion weaved into the storyline, the sound and sage wisdom, and the real life issues are what makes 'descended' relatable to so many age groups.
With wisdom and nostalgia, Ingrid J. Adams tells one of the best written stories of love, family, and self that I've read in awhile.
Thank you for the opportunity to read this masterfully written story that will stay with me, and hold me captive. Thank you to Ingrid J. Adams and NetGalley for the opportunity to write my honest and unbiased review.
Indigo Wolfe is the guy everyone wants to be or be with. But not all is as perfect as it appears, Indigo is barely holding it together, consumed by the darkness only he can see and feel. Until he meets Cordelia Carlisle and is hit with an astounding sense of recognition and belonging. As they grow closer, Cordelia and the Carlisles grow to love Indigo as one of their own. When circumstances pull them apart, Indigo descends into the darkness. Now he must choose, to give in or to fight for himself and the girl he seems destined to love and lose lifetime after lifetime.
Set in the early 90s,this book took me by surprise and completely swept me away. As a product of the 90s myself, this felt like floating back in time. I found myself blasting those favourite 90s rock anthems, so that alone warrants all the stars from me.
Nostalgia aside, this book felt like a breath of fresh air in a captivating and emotionally impactful way. It navigates heavy themes of abuse, depression, suicide, and substance abuse. Spanning over 5 years, the character development felt on point and accurate to each age and stage of life. I thought the pacing was perfect, as I never wanted to put it down. A well written and thought provoking coming of age story, weaving together fantasy elements with the very real realities of suicide and depression.
The idea of a love that can traverse time is always going to be yes for me, I'm an endless romantic.
The ending didn't surprise, I did see it coming, but not in a disappointing way. I think it was a perfect setup for the next book, and I can't wait to see where this story goes!!
Thank you to Netgalley and Shawline Publishing for sending me this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
When I started this book I wasn’t prepared for the teen drama, the main characters are only 13 at the beginning of the story and I was unsure if this book would reel me in.
I’m glad I kept reading though, because this story is nothing like I ever read before. It’s full of surprises, plot twists, love, found family. But also a lot of hurt, sadness and depression. It’s original in it’s own way, which made me want to keep reading. It’s written really well, you can’t help but feel for the main characters.
Luckily I do not know what depression feels like and I started reading this book while being mentally stable and positive, but reading through the depression of one of the main characters I felt every bit of it. It’s written so well that I could feel it pressing down on me and I could almost imagine what a depression might feel like. So fair warning, if you are feeling a bit down you should probably read something lighter because some parts of the story feel quite heavy.
The story takes place in the early 90’s where cell phones did not exist, people listened to their favourite music on cassette tapes and watched movies on VHS. The main characters of the story are in high school, where you always have these groups. You got the popular kids, the bullies, the nerds. It all seems like your typical high school with the typical high school drama that comes with it. But not all is what it seems, and as the main characters and their friendships evolve they will learn more about themselves and each other.
I really liked how each chapter is named after a song from the 90’s, some of those songs I still love. The Unforgiven by Metallica, Welcome to the Jungle & November Rain by Guns ‘n Roses. More great songs from the 90’s are mentioned in the book and it really gave more life to that 90’s vibe. Also mention of popular tv shows from the 90’s made it all more authentic. I was born in ’88 so I remember the 90’s well, I really loved “going back in time” like this, made me feel nostalgic.
I was not expecting that plot twist at the end, and honestly I really wasn’t ready for this book to be finished. I am definitely curious about the next book in the series.

Descended poses so many questions, I keep thinking about the characters and the messages in my quiet moments. It really is a beautiful love story. It reminded me of Twilight a bit but also has a real Australian flavour to it. An enjoyable read.
UPDATE: It's clear to me that the high rating of this book is coming from accounts SPECIFICALLY CREATED to review this highly. Most "joined" around late April and say basically the same shit. I hope more people see this because I already hated this book but now I just find it pathetic.
First of all thanks to the author and publisher for the ARC I appreciate the chance to check out a new series.
Unfortunately, I don't have anything positive to say. I tried like hell to fall into the love story of Cordelia (the girl having nightmares about how her past-lives ended) and Indigo (the boy with seemingly everything but full of pain and struggling against abilities few understand). Star crossed lovers across lifetimes? Oh yes.
But no, a tragic start to a 4 book saga. Every conversation between characters comes off like a self-help book in disguise, no one has any personality aside from depression or #enlightenment and don't even get me started on the stereotypes present throughout. (Seriously? The Asian guy that does martial arts? Has a Buddhist monk dad? Talks about rice and ramen?)
Just because a book is set in the 90s doesn't mean it has to be written like it's still stuck thinking like the 90s.
There's little to no actual plot til the last 100 pages but by then I still have no stakes in anyone because they just keep piling on characters and abilities like a marvel crossover film, without any of the charm. You want powers? We got telekinesis, aura manipulation, astral projection, telepathy, healing energy, yoga, chakras, vegan food and even shadow clones! Don't forget the ghosts and shit either. Ugh.
Also, for it promising romance the chemistry between Cordelia and Indigo is such a dud, I mean when they actually see each other which is like 15% of the book anyway. It's so much of just telling me how they suddenly feel but not showing. I don't buy it for a second. Does it make sense for two people in their situation to fall in love? Maybe, but when these two are barely people I just can't bring myself to care. they're their most tragic traits and not much else.
Others have said they're unsure what genre this wanted to be and I agree in that sentiment. It's halfhearted romance and bloated supernatural abilities with a sprinkle of fantasy just didn't hook me like I wanted. I guess I can say I'm glad I didn't have to spend money?
I received an advanced review copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
I am so sorry but this book really isn't for me. There's absolutely nothing wrong with the book but I started it at a bad time and I just couldn't get into it. I could force myself to finish it but then I wouldn't be able to give an honest review and I would most likely fall into a slump.
Till the point I read, it was going okay. I had not yet got into the paranormal bit of it so I practically know nothing about the story to comment on it. But the pacing and the writing were amazing. I just wish my mood hadn't failed me.
As much as I wanted to love this book, I just couldn’t. The book definitely felt like I was slipping between different genres every chapter and half the time felt like I was reading different books. It felt like this book should have either been all fantasy or all YA romance. The twist at the end was decent. It felt like all the fantasy world building was just vomited out all at once and most of the stuff in the beginning seemed insignificant. I did love the messages about mental health and suicide and I think that Indigos downward spiral was well portrayed.
Wow, I loved this amazing read! So thankful to sunny babe pr & Ingrid Adams for my ARC. The story of Indigo brought me on amazing journey showing all the trials of life we all can face & go through, and how we must overcome those demons of life. There fantasy, romance, parallel universe vibes were all amazing it kept me reading every minute, no spoilers, but the book was amazing at providing me with a few surprises I was not expecting & I was left dying for more at the end!!!!!
WOW. Just WOW. I'm in AWE of this story, and what it made me feel. Descended just became one of my favourite books of all time. I was completely captivated by this beautifully dark and soul wrenching story.
It's the coming of age tale of Indigo + Cordelia, who are entering and struggling through their teens in the 90s. They come from very different upbringings, but are drawn to each other for reasons they couldn't fathom.
What drew me in: •Indigo - his character blew me away. I loved everything about him. •Mental health - it was strongly rep'd and played a big part. I thought this would be triggering for me but getting Indigo's perspective of his struggle and healing actually healed me a little❤️ •Spirituality, fantasy, magical realism - this was the most unique concept I've encountered in all my reading. Reincarnation + reiki vibes, mixed with dark fantasy is what I felt while reading. •Soulmates - the love story is also really unique and definitely a slow burn. •90's nostalgia - I was around the same age the characters were when the story takes place, so the nostalgia was hitting hard.
PSA: Do yourself a favour when you start reading this book and download the playlist! The chapters are named after 90s songs and this really added to the nostalgic vibes.
I know I'll be thinking about this amazing book for a long time! I am so stoked that it's the first in a 4 book series, and absolutely cannot wait for book 2!!!
Thank you so much Sunny Babe PR for sending me a copy of this book!
1. When I started this ARC I really didn’t know what to expect, there were so many parts different to my usual reads - the 90s nostalgia, magical realism and the fact that I’m only just starting to really get into my romantasy era - but oh my goodness I was shocked at how quickly I became immersed in the storyline, how quickly I fell in love with the characters and how I simply did not want to put this book down.
2. MMC, Indigo is broken yet so beautiful. Indigo is beloved by all, the popular guy at school, girls want to date him, guys want to be him but then we hear the tragic story of his parental abandonment, his inability to accept love and difficulty in trusting anyone around him; when Indigo realises following a suicide attempt that he is a gifted individual, with powers beyond belief, and becomes united with those who also possess these paranormal abilities - however with greatness always comes a looming evil ready to overshadow.
3. Cordelia and Robbie have my absolute heart ♥️ they were just such extraordinarily written characters that you just wanted to be within their family and in their world. Their family members were also excellent side characters who added depth and importance to the story in their own ways.
4. Cordelia and Indigos romance story - felt very Romeo and Juliet - bereft and tragically romantic, yet full of pain and sadness - I need to see what happens between the pair in book two because my heart is not recovered.
5. THE Twist - excuse me Ingrid - my jaw is broken from smashing to the floor - I was not expecting that at all and I need to know what happens next now that the pieces of the puzzle have aligned.
In all, there was a perfect balance of fantasy (without being completely unfathomable), romance as well as hard hitting heartbreaking moments.
I give 5 stars because how can you not love a story about anime, magic, sixth sense but above all love. Welcome to a book that will take you through a thousand contrasting situations to arrive at a cliffhanger that will keep you in suspense... I absolutely want the sequel to arrive as soon as possible possible!!!! Absolutely 5 ⭐ “We knew you would get there before you I even knew you would be there,"
I was given the opportunity to read this Advanced Reader Copy in exchange for my honest review.
Firstly I can't believe that this is a debut novel. It was sooooo good!
This book hooked me right from the first page. I thought that the character development in this book was amazing. The MMC, Indigo, transitions from a teen barely surviving, to not surviving at all, to flourishing and becoming stronger with support. Your heart breaks for him and then rebuilds with him as he strengthens himself. Adams does a fantastic job of making you feel what Indigo is feeling and makes you want to root for him.
The topics of past life and after life, soul mates, and higher beings and how they all connect was very thought provoking. As Indigo learned more about himself through learning about the different lives and his abilities, I felt hope and peace for him.
This book made me feel so many emotions - curious about his behaviour when he was younger, happy when he found Cordelia, angry for him and then heart broken, then hopeful when he receives a support system.
This book also has some great twists, and that ending. Not only did I not expect it, but it ends on a cliffhanger. I can't wait to read the next book to see what happens with Indigo and Cordelia.
thank you to the author and sunny babe pr for sending this to me as an ARC read. this book is fantastic. it’s very easy to read and it’s so cool that it’s based in a real world but has some magic/paranormal elements but it isn’t the sole focus of the book. the writing was so good that there was particular scenes with paranormal vibes and i’d feel a bit freaked out myself lol it was written that well!! all the characters were so loveable and the ending was so good it answered all the questions but still left you wanting more (which i am keen for with book 2?!?! i don’t think anything has been confirmed yet sadly)
I received an ARC of this from netgalley in exchange for an honest review. I'm glad I didn't pay for this (did I get a very rough draft of this book? I must have gotten a different copy of this story because everyone else seems to have loved this) This book had an interesting premise that was terribly executed. The writing and story telling were not good and the pacing was so off. I found myself skimming through a decent part of the book because it could not keep my attention.
This a romantic fantasy set in the 1990s in Australia with a supernatural element that you’re introduced to right away just so you’re made aware that forces are at work in the background. Those powerful and super creepy scenes come in isolated scenes peppered throughout.
The MMC is Indigo Wolfe, the only child of famous globetrotting celebrities who has mostly been raised by guardians. He wants for nothing and has far more freedom than most teens, but he feels broken and empty most of the time. He is deeply empathic and sometimes hears voices, secrets he’s kept since he was very young, only ever telling his first guardian.
The FMC is Cordelia, and through a series of natural high-school-centric events, Cordelia and her family welcome Indigo into their family. Indi and Cora have a deep connection and he shares his pain and his secrets with her. She loves him more completely than anything he’s ever experienced and she values his trust immensely. Their emotional intimacy is a tether they both cling to.
Their relationship blossoms just as his father is given custody of him, and he’s wrenched out of the only life he’s known for 17 years and whisked away to NYC. He is miserable and overwhelmed by his sensory overload in the big city, and things take a dark turn. He has to embrace his natural gifts and find a way through the forces that seek to harm him. While he’s honing his skills, he tries and fails to compartmentalize his feelings for Cora, but all he really wants in the world is to get back to her.
The story is broad in scope and filled with side characters and villains and nostalgic nods to a decade I remember well. The hero’s journey is complex and convoluted, and ultimately redemptive, but there’s a lot of heartache that comes with it. Much intensity, loads of adventure, and twists I promise you don’t see coming. The chapters are song titles and there’s a Spotify playlist!! I was around for the great music featured in this book and it made a powerful connection. So fun that others can be introduced to new music this way. Book two is coming soon!
Trigger Warnings: mention of domestic abuse, addiction, alcoholism, suicide
“Hurt people hurt other people.”
Okay, I am not sure how to go about this review, primarily because I am still trying to piece everything together. Thankfully, I have managed to come up with a few things: "descended" comes off as if you are watching a movie without sound, so the only way to understand what`s being said, is to read the subtitles and pay attention to what happens on screen. (This being the metaphor for reading the book from start to finish). That said, this is one of the books that pay a buttload of attention to details and how characters are fleshed and - because of that - you need to absorb a lot of stuff. This is of course not a bad thing, and I admire Ingrid J. Adams for her writing and effort to take the reader into how she sees the world she writes about.
Our story follows Indigo Wolfe, the guy everyone wants to be or be with. He has secrets he doesn't want to share, that is until he meets Cordelia Carlisle. From there the book takes a big turn on readers having hope for our characters and their secrets.
This reviewer isn't the most interested or entertained by romance and certain YA tropes. However, she puts it aside, to be honest about this piece: it`s not bad. This does not come off as a bad book nor as an inherent money-grab, but It does give a sense of resemblance to other YA books I have read, with a seemingly similar-like plotline, which bothers me a little bit. This does not mean that I do not recommend it to anyone: I do. I genuinely feel this book has potential in the market, and despite me not liking it too much - with the plot, romance and some characters I came across - I am sure other people will treasure this. So I urge you to not take my star rating as a bad thing, but rather as solely a different opinion. If you agree with me after having read this, that`s wonderful, but I would urge you to give the book a try, before giving any of my words in this review, or the rating, a piece of your mind.
I want everyone who reads this to be aware of situations happening in the book (the trigger warnings) and hope you enjoy this book from beginning to end!
I have to say this book wasn’t terrible but I just felt like I was lost most of the time. I did enjoy the mental health representation and the story line but something was just missing for me. I also have been super busy so maybe I just need to try to reread it again and see.
Synopsis: Indigo Wolfe has it all, he’s a popular kid with famous parents living in Australia. We soon discover it isn’t at all what it seems. Enter Cordelia and Robbie changing Indigo’s life and their own for the better. As fate would have it, Indigo is forced to move away devastating Cordelia, Robbie but most of all Indigo. As Indigo spirals, he comes to terms with who he truly is with help from new friends and family that aren’t so new after all.
At first, I wasn’t sure where the fantasy was in this book. It was different than all the romantasy I’ve been reading with Fae and dragons but it was a welcomed change. The character growth and mental health journey the author took us on was really what hooked me into this story and made me feel so invested in the characters. The love story and its arc, it brought me back to my first love and the innocence of it all. I gave the book 4.5 stars only because it did get a bit murky for me when the fantasy was explained. However I think that may just be part of the world building. I did enjoy the connection across time and hope this gets explored more later on. I’m looking forward to the next book in this series. This was an ARC read.
