Yana can still remember the fear she felt the night her adopted brothers betrayed her and forced her to run for her life. Now, ten years later, she's grown into her power, and it's time for revenge.
The Sirota Brothers have spent the last decade struggling to establish themselves in the criminal underground of Chicago. They are under attack, and their small empire is on the line.
In a game of manipulation and lies, where any wrong move can mean death, will the truth set them free?
This story presents an intriguing narrative featuring a variety of supernatural creatures such as vampires, werewolves, and sirens. The quality of the writing is commendable, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. However, I found the pacing of the story to be somewhat rushed and in need of further elaboration.
A more in-depth exploration of the brothers and Yana's past would have added depth and visual appeal to the narrative, shedding light on their relationships prior to Yana's quest for revenge.
While I have not previously delved into books with multiple points of view, I believe this book serves as an excellent introduction for those interested in exploring narratives with more than two perspectives. It is worth noting that readers should be mindful of trigger warnings, as I personally overlooked the warning for male-male-male content. While this was a new experience for me, I found it to be tastefully executed and engaging.
For those seeking a supernatural read, this book serves as a strong starting point. As this is only the first installment in the series, I eagerly anticipate the release of the second book.
Found family, SFMC, MM, Torture, Vampires, demon dogs what more can you ask for.
Yana has been in hiding for 10yrs trying to work out how to get back at the family she thought loved and supported her. When she finds out what she has been thinking all this time has been a lie!!
I had a great time with this book and feel it was a solid start to a series with a well thought out dynamic not only within the brothers themselves but also how they are woven into different threads of the city they rule. I loved the different types of magic beings we get to see as they are atypical to a lot of these types of stories (one is a male from Baba Yaga's line which I found so intriguing) and I felt it was a fresh take on some of the lore around various mythologies.
I really loved Yana as a character and her quest for revenge. I like how we got to see her vulnerabilities as well as her strength and was holding my breath the whole time as she went about her plans to try and hide from her brothers who tried to kill her. She was sultry but she was also hurt and vulnerable, which was refreshing to have in a revenge plot.
As for the spice, anyone who knows me knows I am VERY picky about the spice I enjoy, as I am on the asexual spectrum and find a lot of spicy stuff to be cringey or uncomfortable to read. This book was neither cringey nor uncomfortable. It wasn't super filled with spice (a masssive bonus to me) but when it was present, it was SO GOOD. Definitely one for fans of desk jobs ;)
My only critique with this book was that I felt it ended in the wrong place. I have no objections to a cliffhanger, but usually when they happen, it feels like the right time and place in the story but with this book, it felt like there should have been more resolved or more of what I expect is coming next to happen and then the big dun-dun-duuuuun moment. Will it stop me eagerly anticipating the next book and daily refreshes of the author's social media for updates? Absolutely not!
I can't wait to meet the author at A Romantic Affair and show my love for this book!
“There was only one way to repay betrayal, and that was with death.”
We are back with some scions baby and it’s time to get them fingers chewing through them pages or flipping that screen. Enter the Sirota family of the Chicago underground, troubled and separated through betrayal. It’s a mix of underworld with magic to make for a perfect cocktail. The siblings who are not what you expect, broken by betrayal, loss and secrets. Is everything they thought a lie?
You will fly through this dark underground world filled with vengeance and darkness. You will be absolutely waiting for more! I need book two asap.
Also, A knitting bad boy I can get around that! Five adopted siblings, five very different personalities. This book will have you craving more!
L.K Shear is back with a vengeance and into the darker space and she has done it so well!
Be sure to check triggers as usual.
Also Best dedication “For every person who has ever had to struggle with being attracted to someone, and wanting to stab them at the same time”
Thanks to books and b*tches for my ARC copy, this is my totally honest and totally awesome opinions.
“If I had to live this life again, I would have found you sooner.”
4⭐️ Really interesting paranormal elements I’m loving learning about all the different scion abilities and heritages. It’s so creative and unique. I found myself so entranced by the folklore of it and wanting to know more.
The MM in this is on fire I love it I’m gonna call it LK Shear does the best PNR MM. There I said it! Come at me bro! It’s so spicy and sinful and seductive I’m here for all of it.
There’s a lot of groundwork setting up the plot in this book, but there’s enough spice to break it up and keep you on track. So grab your knitting and settle in.
Speaking of knitting. I know we don’t choose favourites in a whychoose but I’m really feeling Alexei! A hulking decedent of Baba Yaga that knits, that’s all I’m saying!
Loved this book, can wait for part two of this duet!
This book is sub 200 pages and ends on a cliffhanger—not even a cliffhanger really—it ends right when the MCs finally get around to communicating and it suddenly occurs to them that they’ve both been had—it ends right before they’re about to have a big conversation to hash some things out. It’s a prime example of a “series” that should’ve been just a single standalone novel, and the plot suffers for it. The dialogue isn’t bad, the characters are a bit “generic psycho” for my taste, and the spicy scenes are pretty flavorless. There’s also no MF in this one, but you can safely assume it’ll begin in the first third of Book 2, or what would’ve been the magic 70% mark if this were one novel as it should’ve been. I would’ve totally stuck around to read the other half of the dang book and I’d be able to tell you if they nailed the emotional explosion of this whole betrayal plot… but nope!
Found it extremely hard to get into this one. By the time I was invested, I had 50 pages left. Interesting characters and unique storyline. The Spotify playlist really set the mood for me (not my usual music) and gave me the push I needed to finish the book. It ends right when we are getting to the good bit, so I've had to purchase Their vengance to get the closure I need. I really hope the next one provides insight into the MM/brother relationships a bit more because im so confused as to why they are the way they are with each other. I also hope to get an emotional connection to the next book as this one lacks the emotional aspect for me.
I really wanted to love this book. But it was a real let down. I was expecting a badass with a plan for revenge. Maybe some fight scenes! But no, nothing like that happens. 10 years of training, and planning and she's literally caught, and tortured immediately! She put up no fight whatsoever, and spilled the beans right away.. Also, the whole belief of the boys betrayal, and schemes of death could have easily been straightened out by anyone with half a brain! Not sure I'll continue.
**Favourite Scene** Kate: This...I can't say without being banned lol. But it was one of the MMM scenes ;-)
**Favourite Line** Kate: "I could charm the pants off a bishop, and the bra out from under a nuns habit"
**Rating -- 4 stars
**Summary**
Great, original storyline with fun witty banter and quips to keep you smiling even in the middle of a torture scene. I really liked how it all intersected and kept you on your toes.
Not a fan of the male leads enacting physical violence against the female lead. That’s a major turn off. I hope they grovel in the next book. I won’t be reading it so I won’t know.
Really interesting paramonal book l I throughly enjoyed the dynamics between all the characters , vengeance is a bitter pill, looking forward to seeing more
“If I had to live this life again, I would have found you sooner.”
I really enjoyed this one by L.K. Shear. Her MM game is just, wow! Hot, hot, hot!
This is a great paranormal romance, with a wonderful mafia crossover, thrown together with magic. And I love that each of the scions have their own individual gifts. Another thing I loved was the 'rules' listed at the beginnig of each chapter.
I'm really looking forward to reading the next book in this series, and seeing where the author takes it. The dedication at the front is fantastic....
"For every person who has ever had to struggle with being attracted to someone, and wanting to stab them at the same time."
Bring on book 2!
4/5 ⭐
I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.
This was a fantastic first book in the series, paranormal mafia with a badass fmc and loads of angst and perceived beytayals. Some decent mm but no spice with fmc yet.
