Witches Knot #3

Vengeance Due

Rate this book
Simone Charvez admits she's high maintenance, but she's also more than the pretty piece of fluff everyone seems to take her for.

When Kael Gardener walks into her shop tattoos, piercings and bad boy attitude she knows she's in for trouble. But it's the kind of trouble she can't help but want.

For Kael, the news that not all vampires are like the monsters that slaughtered his entire family is nearly as hard to take as his all-encompassing attraction to a witch with a family that includes one.

Simone fights to get Kael to let his guard down and love her and Kael fights to keep his emotional distance from a woman he's sure he has nothing to offer as they race to find and kill the oath breakers who threaten not just all of New Orleans, but Simone's very soul.

Lauren Dane has been writing stories since she was able to use a pencil, and before that she used to tell them to people. Of course, she still talks nonstop, and through wonderful fate and good fortune, she’s now able to share what she writes with others. It’s a wonderful life!

The basics: Lauren is a mom, a partner, a best friend and a daughter. Living in the rainy but beautiful Pacific Northwest, she spends her late evenings writing like a fiend when she finally wrestles all of her kids to bed.

This is the 3rd book in her series "Witches Knot" and by fair my favorite of the three. It still had the 'steamy' sex, but I don't think it was over the top done, and the story line was interesting and fascinating that I couldn't put it down. (read it in a day!)
I agree with the reviews that this book could also stand on its own without the series. It does bring other characters back from the previous books, but so that you could follow if you have or have not read the first two.

"We’re strong. As a unit our magic is intense, the connection is our greatest weapon. We’re a witches knot. It’s in our binding, the melding of empath and dreamer, of reader, young and old and in between. We take witch magic and wizard magic, a touch of Fae and some vampire and we tie it together and create something new. In there, I’m the warrior."

“Look, I want to go too. But what if we make it worse?" [Lee began.] "Kael and his crew have been doing this for fifteen years. I’ve never slayed a vampire. Slain? Whatever. The point is, if we go all Lucy and Ethel here we could mess them up. They’ll be worried and we can’t do any slaying, or slayage or whatever. What if Anton uses us to get to them?”

There are some men (yes there are) sexy, strong, great protectors who when it comes to communicating with women. . .are dumb as rocks. That being said there are some men who will finally realize the potential for the love of a good woman. Simone is a empath who is soul mate to Kael. Kael lost his family when he was 4 to a vicious killing. Imagine loving someone filled with such pain and only lives for vengeance.

I'm glad I didn't give up on the Witches' Knot series after book 2. This book was much more like book 1, more plot driven and less repetitive sex. However, it lost a rating star because it violated one of Silvia's rules of ridiculous writing; the use of the phrase "pretty pussy" by the hero while pleasuring the heroine. This makes me laugh every time (and also annoys me, because do women really need to worry about the appearance of their lady parts now??).

Side note, the hero's name is Kael Gardener, but I kept hearing it in my head as kale gardener...

I liked this, but not as much as the first two.

Though Simone and Kael were drawn to each other from the beginning, he kept trying to push her away while she tried to get him to give in to love. So to me she seemed like she was letting him stomp all over her, and despite how Em predicted Simone would make him pay she really didn't.

Also, it didn't continue the previous storyline with the demon and the Compact, so except for the existing family it barely seems part of the series.

This must be a series, as there are references to how several couples came together. The Charvez family are gifted witches and Simone is an empath. They live in New Orleans where a team of vampire hunters have decided to have some down time. Kael is one of the warriors and he falls for Simone. Meanwhile an ancient vampire, Anton, wreaks havoc and attempts to destroy the team. Simone and Kael end up together.

A solid third book in the series. I always love when Lauren Dane allows us to be a part of the lives of past characters and this book was great for that. Simone and Kael had their own story, but Lee/Aidan/Alex and Em/Con were an essential part so that was great!

Immediately after finishing, I purchased book #4 on Kindle and can't wait to get started.

Not my favorite of the bunch. I wish there was a little less angst before the get-together at the very end. I have loved the other books in the series and how both partners know so fast that they love each other. This one did not feel the same. It wasn't until the last few pages that they actually came together. Simone was a very self aware heroine, but Kael bugged me for his wishy washy-ness.

This was terrible, the plot did not grab my interest, the characters were so stupid I wanted to slap the side of their heads, and the only reason I finished it is because I liked the first book in the series.

New record: first time I've fallen asleep in the middle of an erotic romance sex scene.

The stories get better as you move up the line, you can tell the author is getting more involved with the characters and the world created in New Orleans as she moves up the story ARC.

I just didn't feel it with this storyline. Sorry. I wanted to love it bc the 2 previous books were so captivating. This one felt borderline whining, indecisive, woo-is-me ...

3.5 stars. Better than the first two books in this series, Kael is a regular human, not a magical superman, and it makes the story better. Also, this book just seemed livelier and more interesting.
