This was sooo great!!!
The art is so beautiful and captivating, the story is a great refresher and the premise is just my cup of tea plus I love taisho period manga so this was really wonderful for me!!

The story is periodic with recurring characters, the common thing being solving mysteries and the likes.

(Slight spoilers in this paragraph)
I was absolutely caught by surprise when in just 6 chapters this story managed to represent such a wide range of characters such as one who lends their own talent to someone else, someone wronged full of traumas, queer people having to live a lie, someone who has gone through loss at a very young age, and people bonding over nature despite language barriers.

This was truly such a beautiful work, I'm gonna suggest this to English publishers for sure, hope one day it gets picked up.

I know Goodreads isn't the best place for this (compared to MAL, etc.). However, people need to know what a beautiful work of art 'Kaika Apartment' is. Easily the best of 2024 for me when it comes to manga. The paperback itself is also lovely, possibly one of the best physical series I've had.

Taisho era - a severely under-represented period. Mystery as a genre. An introverted, yet observant artist as the central weave of the story. Well-balanced (and mature, thank god!) cast of characters. INSANE paneling skills from the mangaka. Eerie, elegant atmosphere. What more could a reader want?

Technically, this is classified as seinen but I feel a hint of josei traces interspersed within some of the episodic stories.

Ameishi has a bright future ahead of them with works like 'Kaika Apartment'. It's brutally underappreciated in the West, so hopefully, scanlators will pick it up again. Or better yet, it will get an official translation. It's a total gem. Volume 3 can't come fast enough!

this is the most beautiful thing I've read this year.
- each panel is an artwork, and they work together well to create a flow of scenes and spaces.
- lighting and shadow are displayed well to create depth.
- typefaces are selected suitably.
- little decorative motifs, such as cartouches, are peppered throughout
- I like how the faces are drawn.

5/5 stars just for the aesthetics, and then guess what? the story is actually good by itself!
