4.5 ⭐️ the way I devoured this book in one sitting because I COULD NOT PHYSICALLY PUT IT DOWN. The female mc being the morally grey one.. sent me over the edge. The spice was ✨immaculate✨ let’s not even discuss that 🔫 scene?? 🥵🫣😮💨 and I was SO INVESTED IN THE MF PLOT YALLLL… idk what I expected, but it wasn’t that. also the lil crumbs we got from wizard of oz made my heart very happy.

This is my favorite book in the series so far. I love McIntire for coming up with the most original retelling to inspire her works. I thought Wretched was a spectacular dark romance that will challenge your moral boundaries and captivate you with its Wizard of Oz allusions.
It almost feels complete but it was too real that I didn't like the ending that much and there's just something about it that held me back from rating it higher 🥹

This was INSANELY HOT.
But also just very insane in general.
At this point, I think I'd read Emily McIntire's grocery store list and call it a wild ride.
This book is pure sin and I lost count of how many times EMI's writing made my toes curl.
Everybody in this book is fucking crazy, and I say it with affection (except for Farrell and Dorothy. They can rot in hell where they belong). It was incredibly entertaining and refreshing to read about a female villain/male cop pairing, and not the other way around.
Ten thousand points to Evie for being an unapologetic gorgeous trigger happy psycho and for all the quoting poetry during sex (the "Are you quoting Shakespeare to my pussy?" bit sent me. And in case you're wondering, the parts quoted are from our pal Will's Sonnet 138 and 151).
Double POVs own my soul and McIntire's writes flawed characters like she's the one who taught them crimes and misery.
Plotwise speaking, this book is very action-packed and as dark as they get, although a little too long.
It's very unrealistic, to be honest, but I don't think the point of this story was realism. Or giving characters a redemption arc, for what matters.
Like I said before, pure sin🤌
The smut is flawless, explicit and stomach twisting. Would you think less of me for expexting something way kinkier, though? I mean, The Gun Scene™️ will forever be iron-branded in my head, but I expected mud filth from a killer in a skirt and the good boy who loves her despite (and because) of it.
We see them get at it immediately, when they barely know each other's name, and it progresses from there.
Add in that they're supposed to be natural born enemies and that they're both beyond salvation, and you can kiss your initiations goodbye.
And OF COURSE Nick is a Leo. And OF COURSE Nick in my head looks like Tom Hardy.
Wretched was overall a quick, funny and extra sexy read that I finished in 3 hours and that I recommend to the entire world.
However, I don't feel like giving this more than the 3 and a half stars (rounded down to 3 because it didn't satisfy me entirely). I feel like something is missing and I think it has to do with the retelling part (go check out Tin if steamy Wizard of Oz retellings are your thing), which I didn't fully like the way I did Hooked's.
But anyway...

OMG I'm SO obsessed, I think this is the best book in the series so far 🖤
The way they both recited poems to each other seemed SO romantic to me...I loved the whole undercover FBI agent/drug dealer plot. Now I'm even more hyped to continue the series because if it gets this good I think I'll be obsessed with the remaining books

Let me start by saying, I liked Scarred a lot, and LOVED Hooked. Wretched was a quick and entertaining read. It is dual POVs of the main characters and has some great tropes (enemies to lovers and a forbidden romance). It is also a broken fairy tale where the main character is the villain and loosely takes references from the Wizard of Oz. Kudos to the author for making the dark haired morally grey character a woman. I’m 110% here for that!! Overall, a steamy and enjoyable read, but I was just expecting a bit more.

If you thought 𝐇𝐨𝐨𝐤𝐞𝐝 was amazing or that 𝐒𝐜𝐚𝐫𝐫𝐞𝐝 was even better then let me tell that 𝐖𝐫𝐞𝐭𝐜𝐡𝐞𝐝 blew the meter of greatness with the mother of sledge-fu#king-hammer with how 𝐅𝐀𝐍𝐓𝐀𝐒𝐓𝐈𝐂𝐀𝐋 this story was.
It's not just the evolution of her stories that are leaving me in awe right now but the evolution of the author’s writing, talent and imagination. The way she keeps 𝐩𝐮𝐥𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐦𝐞 𝐢𝐧 𝐥𝐢𝐤𝐞 𝐚 𝐬𝐢𝐫𝐞𝐧 𝐬𝐨𝐧𝐠 with her story-telling techniques and formidable characters is mind-blowing. Her words just flows off the pages effortlessly and seems so flawless, i am highly impressed.
Which would explain how i 𝐃𝐄𝐕𝐎𝐔𝐑𝐄𝐃 this book in so little time, honestly i feel like i just sat down and opened the book, but I'm somehow finding myself writing my review now. If this time-lapse doesn't prove to you this is a series worth reading, idk what will. Cause if you don't find yourself coming back to reality 𝐎𝐍𝐋𝐘 when you turn the last page of your book then what is even the point.

These two were made for each other and i 𝐃𝐀𝐑𝐄 anyone to argue with me. They each had many missing pieces stolen from their heart and soul, that could only be found by the other. 𝐓𝐡𝐞𝐲 𝐰𝐞𝐫𝐞 𝐬𝐢𝐦𝐩𝐥𝐲 𝐄𝐧𝐝 𝐆𝐚𝐦𝐞. Their dynamic was so passionate, real, full of hatred and sexual tension it was pure ecstasy. I really, really loved how they let themselves be vulnerable with one another, since that was something they didn't get to have in a very long time and the fact that they trusted each other enough to exposed themselves was a huge act of intimacy to me. 𝐀 𝐛𝐞𝐚𝐮𝐭𝐢𝐟𝐮𝐥 𝐚𝐜𝐭 𝐨𝐟 𝐟𝐚𝐢𝐭𝐡.
I was taken on an intense, dark, twisted ride full of grief, anger and duty with two characters made of darkness. I am fully obsessed and can't get enough of them. Both wanted to peel back the others layers one by one until all their secrets and deepest dark desires were found all the while falling head over hills for eachother despite 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐫𝐨𝐚𝐝𝐛𝐥𝐨𝐜𝐤𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐫𝐨𝐰𝐧 in their way.
Mainly her lack of trust and the walls she built around her heart or his deep rooted issues with drugs and how it affected him and the ones he loves. And i absolutely loved how the author 𝐭𝐚𝐜𝐤𝐥𝐞𝐝 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐛𝐥𝐞𝐦𝐬 and handled his hatred and disgust over anyone involved in the making or selling drugs to give us the most sexiest, passionated scenes worthy of 𝐎𝐮𝐫 𝐐𝐮𝐞𝐞𝐧.

4 Bleeding Poppy Stars ⭐️
No one is happier than I, that I eventually clicked with an Emily McIntire book (FINALLY) - I was almost going to throw myself off a metaphorical cliff since everyone keeps raving about these and I wasn't seeing the picture...but maybe it was my love of Wicked, or maybe that I always thought Dorothy a "bad guy" in the original movie - (I mean she killed the Wicked Witch of the West's Sister and stole her shoes!!!!) or maybe I finally found myself over the rainbow for the story and characters...BUT THANK GOODNESS Wretched did it for me.
EVERY PROBLEM I had in the previous books was somehow rectified and NOT present in this (or at least not to the point that it became annoying) ...
The story felt the right length (Like Goldilocks trying things out in the 3 Bears House - the length was "not too long or not too short". The end wrapped up at the perfect spot when I started feeling like this was drawing to a close and it didn't feel as rushed too close everything up as the previous two books.
The Character's relationship development was just right! There was actual progression!!!! Not just a horny obsession! They went through the enemies to lovers cycle PERFECTLY....from a "quick fuck" to "I don't like you" to "I cannot stop thinking about you" to "WOW - you actually see me for who I am and accept my flaws" to "OK, I think I love you"!!!!
The WRITING was also a MAJOR improvement - this was clear, easy to understand, and relatively easy to DEVOUR!!! It also had a good balance of witty dialogue, description, plot building and development. It sets the stage perfectly for a small family who rule illegal operations in the town!
I also loved the characters in general - Evelina was an interesting, fun character who is beautifully flawed and extremely volatile. She is thoroughly Wicked and unapologetically so and I REALLY loved being in her head! I have this annoying habit that when something piques my interest in a book - I NEED to go down the google Rabbit Hole of Investigations until I feel utterly sated with a decent understanding of the concept. This happened on 4 occasions in this book!
No one is happier than I, that I eventually clicked with an Emily McIntire book (FINALLY) - I was almost going to throw myself off a metaphorical cliff since everyone keeps raving about these and I wasn't seeing the picture...but maybe it was my love of Wicked, or maybe that I always thought Dorothy a "bad guy" in the original movie - (I mean she killed the Wicked Witch of the West's Sister and stole her shoes!!!!) or maybe I finally found myself over the rainbow for the story and characters...BUT THANK GOODNESS Wretched did it for me.
EVERY PROBLEM I had in the previous books was somehow rectified and NOT present in this (or at least not to the point that it became annoying) ...
The story felt the right length (Like Goldilocks trying things out in the 3 Bears House - the length was "not too long or not too short". The end wrapped up at the perfect spot when I started feeling like this was drawing to a close and it didn't feel as rushed too close everything up as the previous two books.
The Character's relationship development was just right! There was actual progression!!!! Not just a horny obsession! They went through the enemies to lovers cycle PERFECTLY....from a "quick fuck" to "I don't like you" to "I cannot stop thinking about you" to "WOW - you actually see me for who I am and accept my flaws" to "OK, I think I love you"!!!!
The WRITING was also a MAJOR improvement - this was clear, easy to understand, and relatively easy to DEVOUR!!! It also had a good balance of witty dialogue, description, plot building and development. It sets the stage perfectly for a small family who rule illegal operations in the town!
I also loved the characters in general - Evelina was an interesting, fun character who is beautifully flawed and extremely volatile. She is thoroughly Wicked and unapologetically so and I REALLY loved being in her head! Excellent fucking book!!!!! Emily Mcintire created one of the best female villains I've ever read!!!!!! Eveline is one of the scariest bad ass psycho bitches of all time and I adored her!!! She was witty,smart and had bigger balls then must guys I know and the chemistry between her and DEA undercover agent Nicholas was smoking hot!!!! This reimaging of the Wiz of Oz was fucking so twisted but in a good way. I was completely hooked not just by the steamy dirty sex but also by Eveline! She might be crazy as fuck but considering how she was treated by her own family I'm not surprised. And when the only person who ever showed her any love her sister Nessa is murdered it sets the stage for not only a grieving heart but a one way ticket down a very dark hole. Because when you feel you have nothing to lose nothing matters except revenge and I do like how Eveline took care of her sisters murder!!!! Emily Mcintire is a hell of a writer and she is very good at writing dark romance and while her villains are usually dark and slightly fucking sick you can't help but see the scars they carry and not feel like they got the shitty end of the stick! I've always loved a villain at least with them you know what your getting! This is another adult themed book with adult language and some sex scenes that had me saying WTF because things that should have made me cringe ended up turning me on in the end! I feel weird giving this book 5 stars because realistically I don’t think it’s the best thing ever written. It isn’t that intelligent. The writing style isn’t anything outstanding. BUT IT DOESN’T MATTER because I think at the end of the day I rate books based on how they made me feel and how much I enjoyed them.

This was really really good!! My heart was aching through half of it… I’m just so sad that it was so short… I wish it was longer tbh. However, what was given was still fucking amazing!!
I mean… enemies to lovers? Secret identity?? Female villain??? Betrayal and angst?!?!

I loved this book a lot!! I’ve always been a fan of the wizard of oz and the way Emily McIntire turned this amazing story into an even more amazing dark romance is beyond me!! She’s just so freaking talented and this book is proof of that!!
I absolutely fell in love with Eveline. She’s definitely my favourite girl out of the whole Never After series. She’s just so amazing, strong, badass and gorgeous overall.. I would literally die to marry her!! I also relate to her in some aspects of her life which therefore made me love her even more!! She definitely has every right to be a villain and I support all of her rights and wrongs!!
Nicholas is very veryyyyy lucky to have her…
I also loved the premise of the story. Nicholas having to work undercover with her family and slowly but surely falling in love with her even though she’s everything he despises? So fucking good!!
Also the angst in this book had me dying!! Istg my heart was aching so badly throughout most of the book. It was just so intense, I almost couldn’t handle it!!!
And the chemistry between Eveline and Nicholas was so so so good!! That and their banter. They’re just so fun to read about and I loved each and every second of them being together!!
However, I didn’t really like that the story was so fast paced and so short. I believe that there could’ve been more depth to the plot and the characters if it was a bit longer. It just kinda fell short to me at some points. Especially the ending! I really needed to see more grovelling on Nicholas’ side (iykyk).
I also got to be honest that I didn’t fully fall in love with Nicholas… Idk why I just feel like something was missing. He just doesn’t hit as hard as the other Never After men.
Overall, it was still an amazing read! Definitely can’t wait for Twisted considering that it’s apparently a lot of people’s favourite.

This was actually SO GOOD. This is my favorite book in the series so far. It flowed pretty well, the story was intriguing and didn't put me to sleep like the first two.
Also, the writing was 1000 times better, and you could definitely tell this was edited unlike the first two.
Wretched is also a broken fairy tale where the main character is the villain and loosely takes references from the Wizard of Oz. Kudos to the author for making the dark-haired morally grey character a woman! I love it!
I loved the two main characters, Eveline is a badass. She is enchantingly imperfect and remarkably unpredictable, she embodies a captivating blend of flaws and volatility. Unapologetically wicked, I relished the experience of getting to know her complex psyche.
And Nick, witnessing his unwavering moral compass grapple with the magnetic pull of attraction to Evelina, all while navigating the delicate balance between his duty as a Federal Agent, to uphold the law and his burgeoning feelings, was truly captivating. The banter exchanged between these two characters was flawlessly executed, bringing about gleeful smiles as he skillfully irked her, managing to get under her skin and right into her face.
Their romance was almost perfect and the progression and pacing was amazing.
Overall, it was action-packed, the smut was so good. Although I feel like it needed a little more character development but with how short this was it wasn't terrible. I definitely recommend this one!

Wretched is one of the steamiest and most violent fairy tales I have read. Naturally, I loved it. Take everything you know about The Wizard of Oz and throw it out the window. This Yellow Brick Road takes you down a different path. The heat, it’s burn everything to the ground hot. Seriously, I think this book broke the smutty hotness meter. I need Nicholas. Evelina is a trigger-happy badass and you do not want to cross her. Dorothy — we hate her. Like I said, forget everything you thought you knew. This “fairy tale” has been McIntire’d and I am not in the least bit upset about that.

First of all I want to say I’m so THANKFUL I received an ARC of this book! And I’m gonna read Scarred next week to finish up this series for me.
I’m honestly struggling with this one and I don’t know if how I’m feeling is “oh this book isn’t for me, but it’s for someone else and that’s cool!” and “I actually have a lot of issues with this book and I wouldn’t recommend it.” I want to say that I enjoyed Hooked so much!! I found it to be chaotic and fun, but I found this to be chaotic and make me feel bad.
I think one of my biggest issues with this book are the two main characters who I didn’t find to be redeemable or likable (I’m so sorry!). Evie is like…a really bad person. Like probably the worst lead I’ve read in a romance? And then I question myself, “oh well is this internalized misogyny like if a dude was doing the things she was doing would I be okay with that?” And honestly, no! I don’t want to say what she does because it’s a spoiler (you find out like 20% in I think) but I was like “please no”. And by the end of the book I don’t think she answered for her misdoings at all.
I found Nick to be as dumb as bricks (yellow bricks amirite?). He made so many mistakes and I never found him to be “heartless” but they kept on telling me he was heartless. ALSO, and I can’t believe I forgot this, but he is so disrespectful to Evie!! And I understand enemies to lovers you gotta have some hate there but he called her derogatory names multiple times. I was like I just need an ounce of respect.
Their chemistry together I did enjoy however! Especially once we got past their meet cute. And some of their softer moments together I WAS DYING IT WAS VERY SWEET AND MUCH NEEDED.

I found the writing to be very “tell not show” at times and also corny at times. Alll the secondary characters were two dimensional to me. And the plot had a ton of holes in it like I don’t have answers still about a couple of things.
However like idk if you’re looking for SERIOUS enemies with benefits with a female lead who is just super mean and hates everything then MAYBE this is for you? But tbh I’d probably recommend another book before this one.

HOW ABOUT WE TALK ABOUT THE STRONG FEMALE MC, EVELINE. EVELINE IS AN ABSOLUTE BADASS IN EVERY SENSE OF THE WORD. Did I also fall in love with Eveline? Abso-freaking-lutely. She is so powerful, so confident, and so just HERSELF. One of my favorite scenes is when she's pinning a 6'4 man to the wall while she doesn't even reach 5'2. LIKE DO YOU KNOW HOW MUCH POWER YOU HAVE TO HAVE TO DO THAT?!? H.O.T.
But then... there's Nicholas. Oh sweet jesus. THE MOUTH ON THAT MAN IS SINFULLY SWEET. He is absolutely filthy and I would be on my knees for him at any time. SUCH A SMOOTH TALKER. AND THE WAAAAAYYYYY HE JUST LOVED EVELINE. AND CREATED A SAFE SPACE FOR HER. GAAAAHHHH!!! I am a certified hoe for Nicholas. He can defile me in any way he wishes. Break my legs, idc sir.
But let's be real. I'd risk it all for both of them. BUT THE WAY EVELINE WAS SO CONTROLLING AND POWERFUL DURING THE ✨ spicy ✨ SCENES??!?!?!? MISS GIRL HAD ME DROOOOOOOLING!!!!! 😍😍 I have honestly never really fell in love/swooned/simped for a FMC, but Eveline really had me by the throat. *literally*
NOW FOR THE PLOT!! If you know me, then you know I absolutely love crime-related books, so when this was centered around a drug bust... I automatically was hooked. Was it predictable? Most definitely, but it was still so freaking FUN to read!!! I loved having the internal struggles of both characters, which made the tension all the better... 👀

3.25 ⭐️ This is really hard for me as i LOVED the first 2 books of this series. Although I still found it entertaining, I didn’t really like any of the characters and the plot wasn’t really convincing enough for me.
Evie & Nick (Brayden)’s relationship was on/off for me. sometimes i liked them and other times i didn’t. Like i loved their sexual chemistry, but i think that’s all it was. i didnt really see anything else worthy of an ‘i love you’ in their case. they do be having good sex though, good for them lmao.
also, the plot was too fast for me. i never got bored, which is a good thing, but it wasn’t convincing. like how is this “gang” just automatically letting nick in without question?? letting him in their home and stuff. not convincing and quite honestly, really dumb. and the ending?? too perfect in my opinion. and don’t get me wrong, i am a SUCKER for hea but in this case, i feel like a worse ending would’ve been better 🤷🏼♀️ just my opinion

I really enjoyed this! I was already pretty excited for it so I’m glad it didn’t disappoint. I was super into it and I genuinely didn’t know how it was gonna end or how everything was going to play out.
Although halfway through I bought 2 other books that I was also dying to read so it kinda sped through this one so I could read the other books I had. I also kinda lost steam through the middle just because I have to really be in the mood for a romance book!

This is a two POV book, told by the POV´s of Evelina and Nicholas.
What I liked about Evelina was that she was a major badass and coldhearted in some moments, but could also be vulnerabel and emotional in others. She definitely had her feminine rage moments in this book. I have to say Nicholas felt a bit like your typical fuck boy to me, not really book boyfriend material in my opinion.
The side character I liked the most was Seth, even though I know almost next to nothing about him. He has no backstory, no side plot, all I know about him is that he is a great friend to Nick and has a beard. I really hated Dorothy as well as their father.
The first half of the book was really okay and good for me, (This is the reason for the three stars, otherwise I would have rated it lower) I was sucked into the story and it really held my interest. After the second half I have to say that sadly faded....The romance didn´t really feel like romance to me. Nicholas was basically only lusting after her for most of the book. I think the moment I hated the most was when she confessed her feelings to him and all he said was "Thank you for loving me." Like dude, that is almost the worst reaction out there. The pacing was okay and I liked the suspense. The smut scenes were definitely good and the dirty talk was there.
Overall it was an okay read that just really lacked in the romance departure for me.
