Extremely Useful

For years I have wanted to self publish my own books. I have a bunch of books already written and so many different plots and series planned out, but I am missing the how to knowledge of getting my books out there. This book is so very useful because it tells you exactly how to do that by an actual author who has succeeded at this business model herself.

This guide is bursting with helpful information that any up-and-coming author would find useful. Who wouldn’t want to have information on what methods work best and can yield the most successful results?

A great tool for new authors. I definitely recommend.

So helpful

This was such a helpful book. I like how she explains to take it easy and not do all the things. Master one then add on the next. For any budding author who want to write short romance I recommend giving this a chance. You’ll be able to find a handful of useful nuggets if not the whole book, which I did!

Sadie B. King shares her journey from her first novella, over discovered short reads and to becoming a six figure author.

She shares her discoveries, her mistakes and her successes. This book can be a shortcut for new writers to avoid the mistakes and aim straight for success.

I loved the book, not just for its usefulness, but also for the humor.

I've written nonfiction books since 1998 and fiction since 1992 (sporadically for way too many years). I have published more than 25 romances under different pen names.

And this book... I have highlighted so many insights the author shared. Some confirmed what I already thought, others were revelations I had never thought about.

I'm pretty sure every single one of those revelations can pay for 10 to 100 copies of this book easily for a serious short romance writer. (I know I have a lot of books to update now.)

The book deals with every area of writing and publishing a short romance.

To fit it all into one book, there's a price, of course. And that price is lack of depth into areas like how to write the blurb/description. But you get the gist of it and I wouldn't deduct as much as 1/4 star just because of this.

If Sadie B. King would ever decide to take time of to write more nonfiction to the pleasure of us writers, there is room for a whole series here and then go into depth for each area.

I would surely love to see that.

I had waited a long time to get my hands on this book, expecting a lot from it. "Writing Short Romance for Pleasure and Profit" exceeded my wild expectations.

It's a book to read, read again and take notes, read again while writing.

It's helpful, inspiring and highly motivating.

Ok so to start, I'm 41 years old and becoming an author has always been a dream of mine. At 16 I was offered a book deal for my poetry but they basically wanted me to be a ghost writer which was heartbreaking for me. By college, I'd written a short script for a script writing class and I've wanted to flesh it out to a book for years. Life happens though. It's been heavy on my mind lately to work on it and then I came across your book. You don't know what it means to me to feel like this was a sign to finally take the leap. The timing finally feels right! Your book covered so much ground! Answering questions that I hadn't even thought of! I'm definitely going to take the advice from someone who's been there. I appreciate all of the insight given and I hope that this also becomes a big seller for you. It's so worth the value and most importantly, it's restored my hope that I can do this! Nothing beats a failure but a try right? So many stars! Thank you so much 💜.

If you’re a writer wanting to make money, this book is for you. Although the book targets short romance writers, most of the content is something that any writer can learn from. The book goes through the steps from start to finish.

I feel like there was a perfect amount of depth for the overarching guide it’s meant to serve as. There are some topics that I’d love to see more depth on from this author, but that would be more appropriate in its own book. So many of the topics in here were presented in a way that was easier for me to understand than other sources I’ve read/watched/listened about the same concept from.

This book is short enough to not lose focus while reading about the topics, but long enough to go into more depth than most similar books do. I’m hoping to see more writing related books by this author and I plan to check out her fiction as well.

Amazing resource for romance authors

I've enjoyed Sadie's romance books so it wasn't a stretch for me to pick up her non-fiction guide for a successful author business. The writing is conversational. She's careful with her recommendations but full-throated and very candid about what worked for her and any drawbacks to consider.

Reading through the section on marketing, I was able to get up and immediately do one thing that she recommended that has already started yielding results. I'm grateful.

Lastly, it felt like being coached by a well-respected mentor who isn't saying they have it all figured out, they're just saying THIS is what I've figured out so far, and this is why it worked for me. This will always be at hand for me. Highly recommend!

This is pure gold to anyone struggling up the ladder to writing success. It has opened my eyes to writing and publishing short stories and given me the confidence to forge ahead with what had been, until now, a weekend hobby. I can't thank the author enough for sharing.

Great tool and reference

So I am not a romance book writer, nor do I really want to be one. But Writing Short Romance for Pleasure and Profit was written by one of my favorite authors to read so I wanted to find out what she was sharing. This book was very interesting as Sadie shares her journey to becoming a successful short romance book author. She shares it all....the good, the bad, and the ugly. But also the great successes and some good insights into what has worked along her path.
If you want to become a successful, independent author then this book would be one you want to pick up and use as a reference tool.

I've heard Sadie King talk about writing, and I've hung on every word. Now, I have even more to love about her thoughtful and actionable writing resources. From her take on "why" we write to her strategies for storytelling to selling your work, Sadie covers it all here. It's like one-stop-shopping for anyone new to writing short and a great refresher course for anyone who's been in the biz for a while. This book will definitely get a reread.

Great book on writing short romance stories for profit. After reading two shorter books on this topic leaving me disappointed by the lack of actual useful info (or just general info you can easily find on the internet for free) this book actually hit the mark and then some.

Absolutely jam-packed with great info, I took notes.

And I completely agree with the author: I too refuse to work more than 40 hours a week and plan on lowering that number in the future. I loved her tone and personality, there's more to life than work.

This book is a tool I will be going to often to getunfo and guidance from as I begin my career. One if my favorite authors uses short stories, novellas to keep her readers interested in her worlds while she is writing a full length of another character. I thought that might be a good idea. This has some tips on how go make those feel like they were a full length in a short version. Perfect.

It's such a cliche to say "this book changed my life," but for me it's true in this case. Sadie challenged me to change genres and try something new. She also gave me concrete, practical ways to make that happen. I re-read her advice on a regular basis.

This is, hands, down, the best guide I've read on writing short fiction. Buy it- you don't regret it.

Even though romance is not my genre, my editor asked me to read this to explore the marketing strategies Sadie suggested. She has some great, very practical ideas on marketing your book with reader magnets. A must read if you want to step up your marketing plan as an author, but don't want to buy social media ads.

a lot of great info

I enjoyed reading this book and feel it will come in handy in the future. I especially liked the part where she talks about for a while having to write in bed because her baby would wake up and stay up if she left the bedroom lol.
