“Quiet quitting, hybrid workplace, toxic boss . . . How do you lead today? A good place to start is by reading this book.” —Keith Ferrazzi, #1 New York Times–bestselling author

Today, most employees stay or leave an organization because of their direct manager. Are team members provided what they need to be their best self and do their best work, or is it withheld by someone above them? Are their managers fulfilling the role of a people-first leader? Does company leadership make the working environment a psychologically safe space that maximizes both human and business performance? Some do, most don’t—only because most aren’t trained to.

But how do leaders build high-performing, psychosocially safe teams?

Alex Draper, the Founder of DX Learning, has created the CARE a four-part playbook that will help leaders establish an environment employees not only feel comfortable speaking up in, but one where they want to stay at and feel like they can win in. In following the research of positive leadership and psychology, Draper’s CARE Equation is based on the idea that when leaders provide clarity (C), give autonomy (A), build relationships (R), and establish equity (E), their teams are more likely to be psychologically safe and perform at their highest potential.

CARE to Win is the much-needed modern and relevant guide for managers, their employees, and organizations. It outlines the importance of each CARE component and breaks down internal biases that keep leaders from CAREing to the fullest. Through personal stories, research, and exercises, Alex shows that when leaders CARE, everyone wins—because CARE is the human skill that gets the hard stuff done.

Become the leader that sets your team up to win. Every. Single. Day.

Our company recently implemented CARE training for the management team based on Alex Draper's CARE to Win. To be honest, I wasn't that big a fan of the training however our CEO gave me a copy of the book which is really pretty good. Draper provides a different perspective to leadership by emphasizing the importance of genuine care and empathy in building strong, motivated teams. What it boils down to is how to be a good person, and applying that to business management.

The book is broken into four separate sections, each dealing with the four core premises of his leadership framework, which form the CARE acronym: Clarity, Autonomy, Relationships and Equity. Draper then outlines several key biases that leaders need to be aware of in order to fully embrace the CARE leadership model. These biases can prevent leaders from effectively creating environments of psychological safety and high team performance.

The book is well-organized, and Draper’s conversational style makes it an enjoyable read. His insights are practical, easy to understand, and applicable across various industries and organizational levels.
