Supernatural Community #2

Power in Darkness

Rate this book
Turns out, I’m not the only supernatural in the world… My new werewolf boyfriend, Logan Smith, wants to introduce me to the supernatural community—a secret society of magical species that live in hiding in the human world.

But my introduction doesn’t go as planned.

On the night before my arrival, a terrifying event births a new power inside me. It’s cold, powerful, and worst of all, I lose my livelihood overnight since I can’t touch anyone now without killing them.

Now as I enter the community, while terrified of hurting innocents, I learn that to stop the dark power I must dig into my family’s past to uncover the truth of who I really am.

Thankfully, I have Logan to help me along the way. Not only is he sinfully delicious, but he’s loyal, trustworthy, and is committed to staying at my side.

Or so I thought…

I adore this series so much! The universe the author built and continues to expand upon is fascinating and feels realistic enough to satiate my need for something that borders on realistic in my fantasy novels. The writing is also very smooth and well-paced. It pulls you in and doesn't let you go until the end.

Daria is a giving and selfless person. To be honest, she borders on being unrealistically naive which did bother me during the novel in some situations. I understand she comes from generations and generations of healers but does she not know that she can deviate from the so-called "only path" if she wants to? That she doesn't need to hurt herself to heal others always and that she doesn't have to have a kid if she doesn't want to at this very moment? She's a great character but that aspect of her personality just gets under my skin. I love the chemistry she has with Logan, though judging by the revelations in this novel things are about to get rocky.

Logan is great to a degree. He's open, emotionally available and always wants to protect those he loves. It was never very apparent how cagey he was on certain subjects but it became very noticeable and worrying in this novel. My guess is an arranged unwanted (on his part) mating is afoot and that he's running from it but nothing has been confirmed nor denied during the story because he clams up every time something close to it is brought up. I don't know the situation fully but I'm looking forward to getting some answers to some big and important questions.

The ending wasn't what I was expecting. It was a very open-ended bordering on cliffhanger ending and I wasn't mad about it. It ended at a very nice point where the story is concerned and it does make me more intrigued about what's going to happen next! On a last note, I would really love a glossary of terms with all the new paranormal world jargon that's being thrown around. It would really help my brain keep them all straight.

My Favorite Quotes:

"I knew there was no running from a family legacy. Of all people, I knew that all too well."

"Remember who you are."

"You're mine, Daria Gresham, and mine alone.

4.25 stars!

Even though this series isn't perfect, I've quickly found myself absolutely addicted to Daria and Logan's story! Book two picks up one week after book one leaves off, Daria is finishing up her healing tour while Logan is back in California as an SF agent. Their long-distance relationship proves troublesome for Logan's possessive werewolf nature when Daria's unique scent starts attracting other werewolves in the area, but when an attack brings forces Daria to defend herself, she develops another ability that puts an even bigger strain on her relationship while she tries to control the darkness inside of her.

The beginning of this novel was a bit annoying for me because of a certain unwanted werewolf sticking his nose where it didn't belong, but I have to say he got what he deserved. Although I once again guessed all of the "twists" correctly, I still find this story fairly addicting and cannot stop reading. Daria was once again obsessed with her perky breasts/nipples and their response towards Logan, which is still odd to read about. I'm glad we finally get answers and drama at the end of this novel, and I admit I will be immediately diving into book 3 next!

Tropes: found family, virgin heroine, possessive hero, unexplained powers, special snowflake heroine

My Logan, the possessive werewolf who would still do anything to protect Daria...

This second installment in the Supernatural Community series dives even deeper into Daria’s evolving powers and emotional journey. The tension ramps up as a terrifying new ability threatens everything she’s built, and her bond with Logan is tested in unexpected ways. With mystery, romance, and a haunting sense of destiny, this book kept me hooked from start to finish.

I’m not going to give a synopsis like I normally do in my reviews since this is a sequel just know that we pick up about a week after the events of book one. I really appreciate when there is basically no time that’s passes between books.

As far as sequels go I think this is a pretty common case of middle book syndrome. We get to see more of the supernatural world that Daria now knows she is a part of but we still aren’t learning much about this new world. Daria herself is just kind of through into it and expected to understand everything that is going on and to act appropriately. Which is nearly impossible when she has almost no clue what is going on or how this supernatural world actually works. This was a huge let down for me as I was really hoping for some world development and we just really didn’t get that.

Ok now onto the things I loved! I’m this book was steamy! Like holy shit there was some hot moments in this book and I loved every second of this. Also Daria gets some new powers in this book which REALLY complicate things for everyone and no one seems to know why or how she’s got them. The last like 5 chapters of this book were my absolute favorites as we FINALLY start to get some answers about Daria, her new powers and just her life in general!

While I feel like not much actually happened in this book I do think that it was a needed plot line it just could have been in novella form instead of a whole book. But it did build us up nicely for the third and final book which I am very much looking forward to!

Thank you Krista Street for sending me this ARC in return for my honest review.

The relationship between Dar and Logan progressed pretty well in this book until the end. I really wanted to smack him for being secretive when Dar specifically asked him to be truthful with her. In a way, his a aversion to discuss Crystal seemed more orchestrated to advance the plot than a realistic relationship issue. I hope Dar doesn't let him off the hook easily after that nonsense. Despite that flaw, I am looking forward to reading the next book in the series.

I don’t know how to feel about this book. With about an hour left in the book I was getting really frustrated. To start Daria and Logan are separated, both doing their own jobs. But they are chatting on the phone and looking forward to getting together. Then Logan warns her of rogue wolves where she’s headed. He tells her they are murderous and not to be trusted. This is the first point in the book where I kind of wanted to smack some sense into Daria. In the first book she was taken in by her fathers innocent act. Then he convinced her to leave everyone and met him alone. After which he brutally attacked her. I mean I could see it a little because it’s her estranged dad. This time though I was just left yelling at her stupidity. In this book She does THE EXACT SAME THING!!!!! Her instincts were screaming at her and she called it paranoia. She figures out this stranger is a werewolf. She doesn’t run like Logan told her too. Instead she invites him to eat with them. Then she lets the innocent act pull her in. She gets a text from an unknown # saying it’s Logan and she just trusts it. Trusts that he can’t find her huge bus in a deserted park and leaves the safety of it and her friends to go find him in this park. WOW I hope she gets smarter especially since I enjoyed the 1st book….
I don’t know the whole middle of the book was ok. It just felt so similar to the 1st book. Even her not being able to touch anyone. Then we get to the irritating part. Crystal. I was so sick of crystal being brought up and hinted at. If anyone doesn’t want to know who crystal is stop here. It was pretty darn obvious but I’m going to spell it out anyway bc it irritated and confused me a little. Crystal is Logan’s supposed fiancé, (gasp), please like we couldn’t see that coming a mile away. He’s this super dominant wolf that I’m guessing was promised to crystal but he doesn’t want to mate her. This is where the book really bothered me. Logan has told Daria that he will mate her, make her his. Then crystal starts spouting off how he’s hers. Why in the world didn’t Logan cut this woman off and spell it out for Daria. He just stood there looking guilty and saying “we need to talk.” He’s this super dominant Alfa. It was completely opposite of his character. I get the plot line needed her to be upset so she’d run away but it just didn’t make sense to me. Also the fact that he NEVER told her: she tells him of another potential mate she’s run into. He tells her he wants to mate her so he should have just told her. Again I know it was bc of the plot but it just made absolute no sense….
However finding out what she is drew me back in. I was ready to put the series down and come back to it later but after finishing it I want to know what’s going to happen/ I’m just hoping she bucks up, stops crying and stops being an idiot.

I thought I’d try to see if it got better when the first book was trash. Anyways it did not.

Wow!! I loved this book! Learned so much about the community, and even had a few surprise reveals. The added 18+ content was incorporated perfectly to make me feel Logan and Daria's passion for each other, and their longing for more. Some of the best written mature romance scenes I've ever read!
I'm excited to see what happens in book 3, and to find out if any of my theories are correct!

A decent read

These books are an easy read with a decent storyline. Being only 200 ish pages each makes them go by quick but the world building and characters are fairly well developed. Enjoying them so far

I am loving this series! I really really enjoyed book one and eagerly awaited to read book two and it did not let me down! There’s more mystery and suspense, romance and of course love as we follow Daria and Logan on their journey and don’t get me started on the twists and turns! I can’t wait to read the next book!

I liked book 2 and the things I thought would come about are showing itself indeed: Daria is learning more about other supernaturals, proves to be dangerously ignorant and the gypsy she mentioned in book 1 is making a comeback in both the flesh as prophecy: we see plenty about her new dark power. One that complicates her healing life, and especially her love life, A LOT.

But while I liked it, and some sections were better than the first installment, the book overall left me with a "Wait! This was it?!" when I turned the last page.
While the last few chapters had a much better pace, we get some answers and we hear about happenings that could complicate our main character's life tremendously, almost the entire novel felt like part filling or lacking in actual plot.

I don't know exactly what it is with book 2, Power in Darkness, but despite having a very hot scene and more world building, too little seems to happen for it to be an actual book. What was the plot? I mean, "who is Crystal?" couldn't be it, right? I guessed that one in book 1, the very first time Logan refused to talk about her AND knowing he's an Alpha werewolf Prince. Was it Daria's origins then? While that came as a bit of surprise we hadn't really been building towards that.

In other words: while Power in Darkness reads "like a train" (as they say in my language, meaning it's well written, easy to read and finished fast), it doesn't offer me enough for a higher score than 3 stars (7 out of 10). I think this book would've done well to be paired up with volume 3. I can't be sure, but it's almost as if the entire story was written in one go and the author or editors decided "Okay guys, this is where we'll cut them up so we have a series".
I'm currently reading book 3 - almost finished, 3 books in 2 days - and 2+3 very much feel like they should've been one thicker part. Perhaps a trilogy would've been a much better choice than the 5 books we have now.

It does get better by the book, simply because we learn more and what we learn is interesting or holds promise (can we please have a Daniel spin off? Maybe a Dragon Trainer Xanthia one? ). But that's for my book 3 review...

Still, Supernatural community is a nice way to spend an evening or weekend off. And Krista Street has enough imagination and writing skills for me to be curious about her other series and to finish this particular one.

A very good second installment in the Supernatural Community series. This novel follows Daria as she learns more about herself, the man she loves, and the supernatural world.

While there wasn’t the same type of suspense in this book as there was in its predecessor (i.e. there was no stalker), the book was definitely suspenseful. I actually liked the mystery of this book, which concerned Daria’s powers, more than the suspense of the first book. This story was a more traditionally supernatural one, rather than having stalker and supernatural storylines mixed together.

I also enjoyed the development of Logan and Daria’s relationship in this installment. My main complaint with the first novel was the emphasis on lust in their relationship, but now they’ve actually gotten a chance to know each other. We definitely got to know a lot more about Logan than in the first book.

My primary issue with this story was the writing. It was very repetitious. Particularly in Daria’s internal monologues, she kept repeating the same thoughts over and over again. Because of this, there were certain parts of the novel that seemed somewhat slow to me, and I found myself losing interest. However, the last 35% of the book really picked up, and I was riveted by the end.

While some questions were resolved, many more were left unanswered. The cliffhanger leaves you wondering while not making you overly anxious, which is something I appreciated. I will definitely be reading the third book in this series, and I recommend you do as well!

Book: Power in Darkness
Series: Supernatural Community #2
Fantasy/Paranormal Romance
Tropes: Mates, Touch her and Die, High Stakes
Spice: 🌶️🌶️
POV: Single MFC

Review: ⭐️⭐️⭐️💫
In the beginning of the book Logan is gone on another case and Daria is traveling to her next healing location. She stumbled on another werwolf and he basically invites himself to dinner. Next thing you know he’s tricking her with his pack, but they’re a rouge pack of horrible werewolves. Exactly the type Logan warned her about. She is hurt so badly by these 3 wolves that she unleashes a new power inside of her onto them. Daria is on a chase to find out truly who she is and where her dark and light power comes from. In this book we learn just about her heritage in the very end. The journey to find out who she exactly is and what her powers can do is fast paced and exciting. I’m thankful she found a friend in Daniel, someone who isn’t obsessed with her scent iykyk.

I love that Logan takes Daria to the SF to help her learn more about herself. He really is selfless when it comes to Daria. Logan, Logan, Logan, he should have just told Daria who Crystal was to him. I’ve read enough werwolf romance books that I had an inkling of who exactly Crystal was to Logan. I’m sure she’ll be a problem in the next book. I’m still rooting for Daria and Logan to have a beautiful romance, but we will see.

WHAT IN THE WORLD?!?!?!🌎 Krista Street sure knows how to create a cliffhanger, dear readers. This was a CRAZY ending and I’m absolutely SHOCKED with how the chips fell in this installment of the Supernatural Community series. Street really brought out her “A” game for this ☝🏽

First, can I say, UGH!!!😩😣 I just KNEW Crystal was going to be someone important/detrimental to Logan and Daria’s relationship. I could feel it in my BONES 🦴 I was SO angry with Logan because, while I love him as a MMC, it was obvious that he was hiding something and that was a BIG problem. I’m just crossing my fingers that Daria can find it in her heart to forgive him, despite his evasiveness. Not to mention, how FRUSTRATING considering she couldn’t touch him for the majority of the book, smh 🤦🏽‍♀️

The real kicker for me was finding out that Daria is part angel 😇 LIKE WTF?! I was absolutely floored and can say for a fact that I did NOT see that coming 😳 I have already read most of Street’s series, and an angel was brought up in another within this universe, but it was a totally different origin story with different powers in place. Needless to say, I was thoroughly impressed with this revelation and CANNOT wait to see where it goes from here 😉

📚𝗥𝗲𝘃𝗶𝗲𝘄:
Now this is the world I know and love by Krista Street.

We are fully emerged into the Supernatural World in this second book. I love all the little magical details Krista adds to the story.

Daria is still being mildly annoying becuase of how naive she is, but considering her upbringing, that is completely understandable. Although I just want to shake her up most of the time and tell her: wake up, girl! She is learning and I think she will have a great character development in thw future.

Logan is keeping secrets, if Daria was tiny bit less naive she would have get what he was hiding by now, but the truth comes forward and guts Daria.
Even if Logan is keeping secrets from her, I understand where he is coming from and you know how much he likes her and how deeply he feels about her, even more so when we get a possessive werewolf in our hands (I love werewolves).

This was such a great and entertaining reading, I diving into the next one immediately!

Cliffhanger
Series, must read in order
Paranormal
Single PoV from mfc

*over 18 readers only*

Trigger warning
Supernatural mind control
Demons / Angels
Vampires

Logan (mmc)
Daria (mfc, healer)

Logan has been gone a week already for work when Daria finds another werewolf that doesn't bother her magic. She tries to tell Logan that she still only wants him, but then suddenly he's unreachable. And she's being attacked. Now she has a new, deadly power and can't even touch Logan. She needs answers, but every question she asks just creates more questions. Then she meets Crystal...

Well written, should have looked at the whole series before downloading the first. Otherwise, I wouldn't have read it. I don't like series books where you have to have the whole series for one couple. But that's just my personal preference.

Yay! A new power!

This is a good second book for the series! I can’t wait to read the next book! Here’s a quick recap and my two cents.

Quick recap:

Daria meets with some rogue wolves and a new power is unleashed within her. Fearful of the new power, she seeks answers to what it is and how to control it.

My two cents:

Not a ton happened in this book. As often happens in middle books, they’re a means to an end.

There are a few smaller romantic scenes. No actual sex yet, but getting closer!

In the end of the book we find out part of what Daria is, which I think puts this series chronologically before the other series I read.

I can’t wait to get to the end of the series! This is a solid series if you like fantasy romance books. Happy reading y’all!

This is my review from book one, and it still holds true:

The book is fine. Not spectacular, but an acceptable, easy read. The audible narration, however, is AWFUL! It sounds like a robotic, GPS voice. Every sentence has the same cadence. During the spicy bits, the narrator makes the dude sound like a douchey 16-year-old who is pretending to know what he's doing and is reading from a porno script. It was so godawful, I visibly cringed multiple times. I listen to over a hundred books every year, and this is, by far, the worst narrator I've ever suffered through. Maybe I would have enjoyed it more if I had just read it myself, so don't discount the book based on my review. Just don't try to listen to it on audible.

Okay there are definitely things I like about this book/series but if they weren't short reads compared to my normal series, then I probably wouldn't commit to reading the last two. On more than one occasion, I feel like I'm just reading in circles the same thing over and over. Almost like the author is writing a book report and kept refreshing the word count to make sure they hit their goal and was just filling in with nonsense or the same sentence/concept on repeat.

I'm not a fan of the dark power. I don't really care for it being brought up with each interaction she has -- "swirling to the surface" or some reference to it is literally on almost every page x3.

Things I do like: the SF community and some of the things she learns there. Logan (until the end of book). The angel bit -- kind of cool. That's pretty much it.

The spice doesn't really hit this book. It's meh. Here's hoping the next two have something.

Daria continues her journey into the before unknown supernatural only to find that once again she is one of a kind and as in the human world she is both revered and feared/hated. This is quick read. More sexual tension in this one. I love how Daria is willing to take chances despite how naive she is sometimes not wise chances but she is not willing to just stand by and let Logan control what she does. Logan makes me mad in this installment as he treats her as though she is his property and just because she is new to this world she doesn't have a brain. I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving my honest review.

I absolutely LOVED this book! Be sure you've read the first in the series before reading this, or you'll be a wee bit confused about what's going on. Daria is enjoying her new relationship with hot werewolf soldier Logan, and learning about the supernatural community she's now part of. Along the way there are a number of MAJOR surprises, and a whopper of a reveal at the end! Logan is still keeping a few things to himself, and he'll probably end up regretting that. I'm thoroughly enjoying seeing this world through Daria's eyes. There's adventure, snarky supernaturals, and one big hearted, feisty healer at the center of it all. I'm REALLY looking forward to the follow up book! Can't wait!!!

I loved Magic in Light, the first book in Krista Street’s Supernatural Community series (separately reviewed) and have been eagerly awaiting its sequel. Well, I’m happy to report that the sequel, Power in Darkness (Book 2), is as great as the first book. This is Paranormal Shifter Romance at its very best. Daria and Logan are back. She’s being introduced to the hidden paranormal world just in time to find that her powers might not be all that good (the whole kill by touch thing puts a cramp in one’s style). What follows as she tries to figure out and deal with all of this makes for one totally thrilling story that’s truly well written and totally fun to read. Highly recommended.

I have read a fantasy book a time or two before where the two main characters are unable to touch and I absolutely can't stand that storyline. I really hope this author gets off this path early on in the next book for this series. This book dropped a star for me from the first book because it did that, and because there is a lot of miscommunication garbage in this story too, where if things were EXPLAINED ahead of time big issues would be resolved before they blew up. That irritates me as a reader also. I will continue the series though because overall I want to learn more about her werewolf and this new angel trainer character :)

this total series sucked. it was just a copy paste of her other werewolf books.

everytime it's the same thing. oh there's a beautiful fmc who turns out to be super powerful and a huge and handsome mmc who is hung like a horse and who turns out to be the most powerful alpha there is. very annoying.

fmc was frustratingly stupid making the dumbest decisions left and right and made out to be a victim of circumstance. Besides that she was obsessively focussed on her own boobs and nipples. almost every chapter she said something about her full breasts. we get it, you have big boobs. congrats

as a warning: do yourselves a favor and DONT read this series
