Do you believe in soulmates?

Tori Frazee is unapologetic when it comes to falling in love before she’s thirty. When her marriage ended amicably, she knew she had to get back into the game to find her soulmate and have the family she wanted. Running face first into a cold but frazzled funeral director and a rebellious toddler at the grocery store isn’t how she expected to find love, and Miranda certainly isn’t her soulmate. Or is she?

Miranda Hart doesn’t believe in love. When she’s saddled with her flakey sister’s kid, she has a choice to make—step up to break the cycle and keep her niece from being another victim or continue to live through her work. When she meets the cute, down to earth Tori, she can’t help but wonder if maybe she does want more than her career.

When opposites attract, steam rises, especially with an ice queen in the mix. Will these two single parents break down their preconceived notions enough to find a family they can rely on?

If you love sensual, steamy age gap, ice queen, sapphic/lesbian romances, then this is the book for you.

Eada Friesian is an author of snarky sapphic women who fall in love hard. She loves all the characters and relationships she gets to play with and the best friends she makes with each new book she writes. She fell in love with the genre years ago and could never leave it. Who would? Now that she’s authoring her own books, she hopes to bring a fresh flair to the sapphic book world.

Eada lives in the mountains, camping her life away with her partner and horde of animals. She has her family right by her side as she strives to live her best life authentically as an author, a parent, a spouse, and weird person. She loves the smell of campfire, the taste of a completely charred marshmallow for a s’more, and living off the land with very little people around her. Of course, none of this last part is true, because Eada is a pen name, and the identity of the person(s) behind her remain hidden.

What a book! This book had me hooked for the start. The way Tori meets Miranda is brilliant, with an instant crush that Tori has for Miranda is palpable, the lovable children, Rebel and Harley, they are absolutely adorable. I could not put this book down.

Tori is an absolute sweetheart, and all she wants is to find her soulmate before she turns thirty. What more could you ask for. Miranda is the opposite of Tori. She is an icy woman who has been forced to look after her niece Rebel, who is nearly two, while her sister goes off looking for her own soulmate.

The two find themselves bumping into each other on multiple occasions when their connection can't take it anymore, and the attraction between them is so strong that there is only one place all that tension to go. And let me tell you. When they do get down to it, it is hawt!

This book is fantastic and absolutely wonderfully written, and I loved every second of it. The book release date is April 1st and is available for pre-order, so go get it in your basket today.

A fantastic age-gap, opposites-attract, single-parent (figure) romance. Miranda—our perfectly frosty ice queen—and Tori—the radiant ball of sunshine—are both richly layered, compelling MCs with undeniable chemistry. The small but memorable supporting cast adds even more charm to the story.

My only gripe? I wish the ending felt more complete. The epilogue, set six months later, offers a sweet glimpse into their relationship a year after they first met, but it also raises more questions than it answers. We’re still left wondering if Tierney repaired her relationship with her daughter, Rebel, or if Tori and Miranda chose to have a child of their own. I would have just preferred more closure.

Ok, I admit the beginning of the book was a bit rocky. I was about to dismiss it as run-of-the-mill contemporary romance, meaning, it’s just all about the unexplainable attraction to a person the other barely knows? Anyway, I pushed through and found myself deep into a the character’s life growth and I was captivated by the push and pull. Messy just like irl. The found family was really heartening. And the sex scenes??? Oh my lawd. Sex with emotion involved and open communication is just *chef’s kiss*

I didn’t really gel with the two mains at first. I didn’t quite like the lecherous looks they were giving each other….. I don’t know why it bothered me but it did. The 29 to 45 age gap wasn’t the issue but it bothered the older main. However for some reason when the mains flirted with each other I found it quite cringy. I think to be so dissatisfied with a book only 20% in, the issue is possibly, that these mains aren’t a good fit for me. I also felt they lacked consistency in some parts. Something would be said and I would be surprised by the name attached to the speech.
Because I wasn’t that keen on the mains, I wasn’t really that enamoured when they shared their lust with each other. I also wasn’t that bothered or really felt any tension from the imbalance of one looking “for ever” and the other looking “for now”, if at all. I also got quite irritated by all the cleavage distracting going on. Having said all that, there were bits that I liked and would give the author another go as this just wasn’t for me, or at least not right now. Reading most of the book I was wavering around 2.5, I just didn’t see the characters as well rounded enough and not sure I could round up and although I kept reading, I wasn’t engrossed. However, there were a couple of scenes laterally that I liked enough to consider rounding up but it really is a 2.5.

An age gap, ice queen, single parent lovestory that will grab you with sticky fingers and rebellious courage.

I received an advance copy for free and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

Tori Frazee is on a schedule. She has a couple months left before she turns thirty and thus, to find her soulmate. A goal that she has set for herself and seems determined to reach. Co-parenting her daughter Harley with her ex-wife has taken some getting used to, but they’ve finally found a good routine. An easiness to life with a kid that is thrown off kilter when Tori gets run over in the supermarket by a little rebel girl. The stunning tall, dark and handsome woman that’s seemingly parenting the rambunctious child, has Tori feeling all sorts of things. When it turns out the rebel girl is actually called Rebel and goes to the same daycare as Harley, Tori keeps running into Miranda. The woman is frazzled having been thrown into parenting her niece overnight. Tori is determined to show Miranda she can lean on friends to help out. If only she wouldn’t be so damn attracted to the icy woman in the mean time.

Miranda Hart has always been taking care of her family. When her parents decided they didn’t want to parent another child when her sister Tierney was born, sixteen year old Miranda was left picking up the slack. It isn’t Tierney’s fault but the young woman is anything but reliable. When she leaves her daughter Rebel in Miranda’s care while chasing down another of her potential soulmates in another country, Miranda is left to deal with other people’s problems once again. She never wanted to be a parent, but she loves her sister and she loves this little spitfire of a niece Rebel. Determined to give Rebel the best care she can give her and not repeating the same mistakes her parents made, Miranda tries her best. She is juggling her job as a mortician and caring for a small child, but is losing grip on things fast. And it seems that Rebel is becoming fast friends with Harley, the daughter of that annoying bubbly woman, Tori. Slowly Miranda starts to let Tori help her. Did she have to be so understanding and plain irresistible in the meantime though?

As a parent of young kids myself, I recognized a lot in this story. The challenges that come from having doubts about doing what is right are very real. I love the way Tori and Miranda are such different people, but Tori somehow manages to get through to Miranda like no one ever could. The fact that it takes a village to raise a child has never rang more true, especially while doing it alone. The community Tori has build consists of strong women, that are mostly exes. That only underscores Tori’s disposition about not turning her back on people she loves.

The melting of an ice queen is always a joy to watch. Especially when there is an instant physical connection that is hot beyond words! Miranda strips down to her most true form when connecting with Tori in that way and it is not only hot but also heartwarming to see.

The two darling little girls Harley and Rebel have a big role in this story, as they should have. Their wellbeing always comes first. They also play a big role in connecting the women that raise them. It’s a privilege to see Miranda slowly embracing her role as a parent and the unraveling of all she has learned in her own less than ideal past.

This is a beautiful, raw story of finding stability and love while life takes turns you weren’t prepared for.

This took me an ungodly amount of time to get through not because the plot was boring but because the execution was poor.. I fought the urge to start skimming because I really wanted to give it a good chance and see if it’ll grow on me.

The story follows 42 year old Miranda who does not believe in soulmates and is a funeral director and 26 year old Tori who is looking to find her soulmate before thirty and is a life coach. Yeah, can anybody say “OPPOSITES ATTRACT”?
I think what is ironic about this story is not that I liked the romance but I was intrigued by the way the author decided to write “single parenting” as part of the plot.
Miranda didn’t really do anything with Tori that screamed “oh! How sweet” likewise with Tori even if yes she was a loveable character on her own and honestly by the time Miranda was well aware of Tori’s love for her, I felt out of the loop… it all seemed like that happened way too fast on the basis of nothing.
They were hooking up, Tori was helping Miranda take care of Rebel ( her niece ) without the nanny title… I see no reason for that to be the “standard” of romance in sapphic love but hey? What do I know.

Another thing that threw me off is how we get Miranda’s background in full view infact that is part of the main plot but we don’t get anything for Tori except that she went through a divorce, has a kid with her ex and is friends with all her ex’s. No parents were discussed, no siblings, we don’t know about her upbringing. NADA

Sigh this has potential. It really did but the author didn’t string the plot along well. I do feel that someone may still appreciate this story tho.. maybe someone that doesn’t analyze shit like I do💀

slight spoilers ahead!

I'm truly conflicted between giving this 2 or 3 stars. This book dragged to the point that I found myself skimming pages purely to be done with it. I enjoyed the first 100 pages, but afterward, it became repetitive and boring. Honestly, at some point, I was only reading it for Rebel and Miranda's relationship, the actual romance aspect just felt flat and not to mention that we barely knew anything about Tori ms girl had 0 character development. I also really disliked how a major plot line was so easily resolved in just a few pages at the end like wdym Mirandas parents suddenly got their shit together and actually started acting like parents??? Like what??? And suddenly Tierney changed and wants to be a good mother? And the thing that irks me the most is that if the author wanted a redemption ark for Tierney she could of done that by giving us some insight into her mindset and her insecurities about being a mother that led her to abandon her child but instead we are given slight hints like face changes and that's it! and then we are expected to accept that she has changed and that she is a fit parent???? As if she didn't abandon her 2 year old for 6 months??? As if prior to that Rebel wasnt being so neglected to the point that she was wearing clothes 2 sizes too small, was way behind in her language and emotional developments and her hair was a tangled mess??? Miranda should of filed for custody and I will die on that hill.

Edit: Upon further deliberation, I can not in good conscience give this book two stars; it is far too generous.

Family of your choosing

I believe in soulmates just like Tori and I think the relationships she has had were preparing her for finding her soulmate. Miranda is always the responsible one even if she doesn't want to be. She takes on raising Rebel and finds she is not alone all she has to do is accept the help. I loved the story and the depth of the characters. I felt all the emotions they were going through. I look forward to more stories from this author.

I liked the premise of this book and very much enjoyed the first half. After that there was more of the same so the story lost a bit a it’s freshness. And the ending was a bit too rushed with most of the issues and problems resolved too easily. The writing was good.

A good book by “an author with a new name.” Ripe for a follow up but a lot of deep emotions running through the book. A lot of descriptive sex as well: too much for my taste but others might like that. Recommended.

Tori is a life coach, and co-parent of Harley with her ex wife and best friend Siena. Miranda is a funeral director, and unexpectedly has temporary custody of her toddler niece Rebel.
This is a thoughtful story. Miranda has a lot of unresolved anger against her parents for leaving her and her sister Tierney to fend for themselves emotionally, Miranda effectively being her younger sister’s parent. She also has anger against herself, feeling she failed her sister in some way. This anger manifests itself as emotional walls, as an icy exterior and an aversion to show or discuss emotions.
Tori is the opposite of Miranda, being open and showing her emotions, not being afraid to admit she is wrong, being a constantly happy and seemingly carefree woman. One trait that both women share is a stubbornness, reluctance to give up, or to back down. This makes for an interesting story, with a lot of love, but also with a lot of tension, miscommunication and angst.
There is so much about this book that is cute; gentle wordplay between the two women when they are getting to know each other; the way Harley takes to Rebel, being the big sister figure; the way Tori’s gaggle of exes are there for her when she really needs them, and are there for Miranda too once she has shown her trustworthiness.
Overall, a really sweet, wonderful story.
Although I really like the style of the cover, the colourful design, I just felt the two women look a bit static, no feeling of movement - rather like the side-on figures in ancient Egyptian art. Rebel is the best portrayed, showing a playfulness, peeping around Miranda’s leg away from the viewer.

What a beautifully written romance! I love the ice queen funeral director Miranda and her girlfriend, the lovely single mother and life coach Tori. Middle aged career woman Miranda was forced to take care of her toddler niece, the cute and wild Rebel, while Tori has a four years old daughter Harley with her ex wife. The couple first met in a grocery store where it was love at first sight for the young Tori. They get to know each other through the same day care center and Tori is a true friend for the overwhelmed Miranda, helping her deal with the toddler as well as her stressful and irresponsible family. There are quite a few dramas and it is not easy to deal with the closed off Miranda, but I am happy that they finally get together and become a real family. I also love Tori's two exes, these women are the ideal lifelong friends and I want to keep reading their stories. The only characters I don't like are the extremely selfish and impulsive younger sister of Miranda, the mother of Rebel, and Miranda's totally "cool" hands off parents. Rebel is so lucky to have such a wonderful and caring auntie Miranda.

I did not care about anything that happened and was just annoyed.

The first ~100 pages I thought it would be 4 stars or more, but it went downhill.
It felt like they just went in circles and nothing happened.

(Surprisingly) the only characters that didn't annoy me were Harley and Rebel.

I did like Miranda at first but she also did things that frustrated me.
Technically there's nothing wrong with Tori but I just couldn't warm up to her.
Maybe I was in a bad mood while reading this but I didn't like or care for their relationship at all.
Everyone else just annoyed me.
Tierney made me want to rip my hair out.

I think the time passed a little weirdly.
After basically every conversation a whole week passed in which they didn't talk? I found that a bit strange.

I also did not really like how the sex scenes were written, I read the first one and just skimmed the others.
Also, way too many sex scenes for my liking.

I didn't even like the ending.

(rounded up from 4.5)

I didn't think I would enjoy this one as much as I did. It's always interesting and refreshing to read romances dealing with single parents and, in this case, the reluctant aunt who has to step up to be the single parent. Tori is a great mix of emotionally mature and sunny disposition without being over the top and annoying and Miranda's point of view chapters do a great job of setting up why she's always been emotionally closed off and had to step up twice now to parent children who are not hers because their parents have abandoned their responsibility. The soulmates thing was a bit silly and could have just been falling in love instead but it makes for good emotional stakes.

POSSIBLE SPOLIERS*

"Looking for your soulmate before turning 30"

I'm sure some of us can relate to this. Unfortunately, the term "soul mates" in this book consisted of sex, sex this, sex that, missing sex, dreaming of sex and having sex, with no emotions or connection. Call me old-fashioned, but I'd like to maybe take a walk on the beach, watch The Titanic, go to McDonald's or ANYTHING, aside from constant sex, with my "soulmate". It just wasn't believable.

I really, REALLY wanted to love this book, but it fell short. My main complaints consisted of the lack of chemistry between the MCs, the overuse of descriptive words (especially during sex scenes), and the typical abundance of lesbian EXS floating around the story for no reason whatsoever. I would also punch my sister in the head if she left her 2 year old baby with me to support and care for, while she was off having sex

How do you recognize your soulmate?

What a great book! The character growth for both MCs was incredible! They are Their chemistry and connection jumps off the page. The spice was on point, sexy and flowed well with the story. The supporting characters were supportive and encouraging and positive. The communication! While not always positive when one doesn’t know how to express themselves, as one learns and grows, communication grows as well. But you do have to open to it, may not do it right but the want has to be there.

Well written. Nicely fleshed out characters. Lots of feels. The kids are so cute and sweet. Easily relatable. “Women are not an island” Do you have a support system?

Highly recommend!!

Eada Friesian’s Taming of a Rebel is a touching story bringing two very different women together on behalf of a wayward two-year-old.

Buttoned-up Miranda involuntarily takes in her two-year-old niece Rebel when Miranda’s irresponsible younger sister Tierney takes off on a search for her soulmate.

Tori, the mom to four-year-old Harley, intercepts the rambunctious Rebel when she’s momentarily on her own in the grocery store. Tori’s first impression of Miranda is based wholly on the haughty woman’s beauty, but that positive perception begins to erode when Rebel’s aunt ungraciously retrieves the toddler from Tori’s protective side.

The two women are destined to see each other more since Rebel and Harley share the same daycare.

With care for the kids being their nexxus, Miranda has the opportunity to be befriended by Tori and for the two to explore their mutual attraction.

Following Tori’s lead, she also becomes open to assists from Tori’s ex-wife Siena, who’s now her best friend; daycare director Aili; and Rebel’s teacher, Birch; as well as establishing stronger ties with her parents and sister.

Friesian’s novel is a heartwarming portrayal of women’s relationships and the development of the proverbial village for supporting each other in raising happy and healthy children.

Taming of a Rebel is a sweet book worth your attention.

I received a complimentary ARC edition of this book and am leaving this review voluntarily.

Eada Friesian has done it again. Taming of a Rebel is a the second of her books that I have read and I absolutely loved it.
This book follows the story of Miranda the older sister who is unexpectedly left to care for her toddler niece when her younger sister takes off. She’s not thrilled to have this wild child thrust into her life, but she steps up to care for her niece Rebel because the alternative is foster care. Miranda has no desire to be a mom and Rebel is more than a handful.
She soon meets Tori, a younger woman who has a young daughter. It’s clear from the start that Miranda is in over her head in regards to Rebel and Tori offers to help. It isn’t long before attraction starts to grow. Their daughters become fast friends, but the two women are not as convinced that they should act on their desires.
The story isn’t all cut and dry. Miranda has many walls up that Tori tries to get past. Not the least of which is a niece who clearly needs love and attention, but is it only temporary? Her wayward sister left without a clear return date and Miranda is struggling to run a business and care for a toddler.
Their path together is not easy and their attraction is strong. Can they compromise and grow or is there too much standing in their way?
Eventually, the story of Rebel and her need of a family mirrors her aunt and her dawning desire to have the family she has said she never needed. Tori unlocks all her desires if she will only let herself be loved.
This book has all the feels and steam, but I loved the quiet reflections and hidden moments that I have come to expect when reading Eada Friesian’s stories. This one just hits the spot.

This tale covers the work and love of child care by single women.

Eada Frisian has penned an intriguing tale of an ice queen suddenly saddled with the care of her much younger sister’s toddler. She does not like children, does not wish to care for her yet is forced to due to her sister’s abrupt leaving the country in an effort to find true love. She lives alone, owns a funeral home with a small staff, and is often on call to collect bodies. She has met a woman who was run over quite literally by a toddler in the grocery! Said child is now in the temporary care of the ice queen. The love begins here. With wonderful supporting characters the love story blooms slowly. This truly is a lovely read with plenty of good sex scenes to support the story! Gads it is a good read!

Just finished this book, and it is likely my favorite read this year so far! Like couldn't put it down and read it in a day

Such great characters that I wanted to meet in a coffee shop and hang out with! I totally fell in love with the 3 MC's and was rooting for them the whole way through. I loved the growth of Miranda throughout the story as she navigated the challenges of parenting and falling in love. As a person who has parented other people's children as a foster parent and an adoptive parent, I could relate so much to Miranda and her struggles of trying to support her sister and seeing the value of keeping her in the picture but putting Rebel first. Ugh, it gave me all of the feels in that story. And Tori...she was such a perfect contrast to the ice queen with her lesbian stereotype of being friends with her ex's which really worked in this story to show who she really was.

Overall: 4

Looking at the cover, I thought it was the nanny falling for the single parent, so I went into this book like that. The first chapter had be confused because I wasn't seeing how the cover related to the book. Just an example not to judge a book by it's cover. One of the FMC has had to take on the responsibility of being the guardian by default for her niece and falls in love with a single mother at the daycare. The FMC is also struggling to live life for herself and not her parents and sister. The second FMC wants to find her soulmate but still maintains a great relationships with all her old girlfriends. Both FMC's fight the attraction to each other because of the miscommunication and unwillingness to be hurt and fully let anyone in. Once they finally let their walls down they realize they can be themselves and still be what they need to be for their family and take time for themselves.

This book was a great book in self acceptance and understanding your family is important but it's okay and needed to say no at times.
