I came to the Black Forest seeking refuge. I will leave seeking revenge. The more I learn about what I really I am, the less I understand who I’m meant to be. Hood? Werewolf? Something else altogether? Figuring that out will have to wait. The fate of the slayers has been forced into my hands, and for their sake and mine, I need to hand them off to someone else ASAP. Where else could I go but to the hoods?Convincing the Council of Matrons to offer asylum makes escaping from Istanbul and Vlad Tepeş’s harem look like pup’s play. Between court politics and the revelation of my family’s darkest secrets, I fight to save the ones I love and keep a supernatural race from going extinct. If I can keep from dying in the process, that would just be peachy too. But when presented with an impossible choice, who will I rescue and who will I condemn to die?The penultimate installment in the Red Chronicles Pentology, Rebellious pits vampires, hoods, wolves, and slayers on the edge of a battle the likes of which the supernatural world has never seen......and may not survive.
Wow, its been a year since I read the last book in the series. I will say waiting so long it took me a few chapters to get back into the book, but it was will worth it. Geri keeps learning more about her life and has more and more questions. She is still trying to save Tobias who is being held by Vlad the vampire who wants her. She is still relinquished by the Hoods. She saved the slayers, but will she be able to keep them save? Will she be able to save Tobias? Can her and Tobias ever be mated? What does everything mean about who she is? I received a free copy for my honest review.
Rebellious Hood is something I've been waiting for for almost a year now, and the wait was worth it. The fourth book in the Red Hood Chronicles picks up a month after the cliffhanger ending of book 3 (Ravening Hood) and gives us a new side to so many of the main characters. It perfectly sets up the end of the series but leaves just enough of a trail at the end to sate us until the final installment.
Geri really comes into her own as a woman, a hood, a daughter, a friend, and a mate in this book. Her character development is strong and I felt it was the perfect amount of learning and growing up for her. The chapters from Amy's point of view were a delightful addition and gave some welcome comic relief to the serious situations in the book, and made me laugh harder than I probably should have.
We learn a lot more information about the history of multiple families in this book, giving so much more context to the previous three novels. It wrapped up some unfinished storylines while setting up some much larger ones for the last book, which is expected to be released later this year.
Love this series. Loved this book. As sad as I am that the next book,, Righteous Hood, will be the last in the series, I can't wait to find out how it ends.
Eeeee! I’ve been dying for this! The revelations were outstanding! The suspense, twists and turns and that moment of aaaaaaaa!!!!! I cannot wait for the next book!
This has been my favorite book so far in the Red Hood Chronicles. I was lucky enough to get my hands on a copy before release and I was not disappointed. This series has led us through endless mysteries, and each one solved has left us with even more questions. This book answered soooooo many of them! Between Brunhild and Amy, I don’t know who I loved more! This book wasn’t all about the action, it was about something deeper for Geri. Her purpose, her choices, her ‘why’. Don’t get me wrong, we can’t have a Geri book without some butt kicking, but this book went further than that, it went beyond Geri and dove into the past and shed a light on what the future may hold for her, Tobias, and the slayers. There were moments of laughter (thanks to some fabulous scenes from Amy’s POV), anxiousness, passion and heartbreak. Oh that heartbreaking moment, I didn’t see it coming and it sure did hurt *tear* Finally getting some background on Geri’s evil mother has made my heart open to her and I look forward to seeing what the future holds for her as well. The whole Hood world is changing, there is so much potential and I am anxiously awaiting the next book to show us what’s to come!
I was lucky enough to get an early copy of this for an honest review. I have been patiently waiting for this book to hit my kindle and I was not disappointed. Oh so many developments in this fourth book in the Red Hood Chronicles. The world building in these books just gets better, the attention to detail and history is astounding. There are plenty of twists, laughs and sadness. We get more Amy which is always a good thing as I love her. We see more of Brunhild Geri’s mum and Red Matron. We get to understand more of her actions and decisions throughout the last three books. This book has ended ready for next which I’m so looking forward to reading. Grab all four books and have a binge they are just amazing.
I absolutely loved it. We delve deeper into the world of the Hoods/Wolves/Slayers/Vamps. I love the character development in this story. The complex relationship of Geri and her family. The interaction between all the characters. This series gets better and better. I can’t wait to read the next installment.
Everything I could hope to get resolved got resolved in this book. A lot of heartache… but a lot of loose ends were tied up in this installment. Love seeing how the story unfolds.
I liked it but I didn't love it. A mixed review for me. First, It has been over a year since I read the series, so I started off a bit lost on where we last left off. There wasn't much rehashing (which I'm okay with) so I was a number of chapters in before it was pieced together for me. Once I was up to speed the story took off. Second, many questions are answered and a some new questions are added. Third, the characters backgrounds gain more substance. Amy (Geri's roommate) becomes my new favorite character. Chapter 20 is done in her voice and I loved it. Lastly, I was disappointed in the lack of descriptive writing. I had to read a few scenes over again because it wasn't clear what exactly happened. Also, a few times the story builds in drama only to have the rug pulled out from under the reader to a new scene with limited details of what happened.
This is not a stand alone book and the story is told from multiple points of view (which I really liked). If you are following the series then this is a must read. It's not one of my favorites but it's still a good continuation to the story. I received an ARC from the author in exchange for an honest review.
As more and more of this story unwinds we find that not everything or everyone is as it seems. We have friends who are now foes, bloodlines thought long gone coming back and old enemies waging new wars.
Ah! This series is so underrated for how amazing it is. The originality of this twist on Red Riding Hood sets the bar so high for any Urban Fantasy or fairytale retelling that I'm left with rereading until the next in the series comes out.
This chapter of the story takes place after Geri and the Slayers mad dash escape from the Ravens strong hold in Istanbul. Geri needs to find safety for the slayers but is equally drawn to finding Tobias. With little help from the Hoods, Geri, Caleb and Amy are doing the best that they can. All while trying to unravel the mysteries of the Aseniacs and look for clues in the past to help solve their problems in the present.
I loved this installment and without giving any spoilers will only say that I cannot wait to see what's in store for Geri and her pack.
i liked that this book revealed a lot about the mythology/heritage surrounding geri and it answered a lot of questions that were raised before. tbh, i'm a sucker for romance so i was sad that for the majority of this book, geri and tobias were separated but i liked that we got answers about the two of them. OK i know that this book clarified that they are distant cousins... but idk, it put me a little off about how i view them now. i always knew that her mom wasnt just a bitch for no reason and i liked how we got to see more of her... but rip her dad :( i actually liked him and was sad to see him go. igor too :(
despite all this, i feel like the first book of this series was my favorite and i ended up not liking each progressing story as much as its predecessor... i'm torn between finishing the series because there's only one book left... but i'm not sure if i have it in me to finish

This really is the series that keeps on giving. Book three leaves us with a real heart in mouth moment and the evil genius that is Kendrai Meeks makes us wait until well into book four to put our hearts back where they belong. I've been invested in this series since book one and honestly, it just keeps getting better. The ever twisting storyline keeps us on our toes and the characters are so endearing we just want to stay with them in their world forever. Kendrai's words are magical and her story weaving magnificent. If you haven't picked these books up yet, you really should. A must read for fans of the darker side of fairy tales.
Repression, elitism, love, and resistance. It is all there and very interesting and well written with well rounded characters which were likable and believable. Except for the really bad guys. There is a central romance but this story did not begin with the injustice being only recognized as a result of romance. This book hooked me in just like the others in the series and I can’t wait to read the next one. I hope there is a next one.
Geri is mad. This isn't good for anyone who gets in her way! This book gives us so many revelations and lays the groundwork for a seriously exciting trip into the last book. If you are a fan of the retelling of Little Red then you aren't going to want to miss this book. Such an action-packed traverse into every aspect of this fairy tale. We learn so much about many of the main characters, answering lingering questions and setting things up for a finale that I can't wait to read.
I liked this one but it wasn’t my favorite of the series. I liked that we get some answers about the ancestry of our main characters but I’m starting to wish this wasnt one huge over arching story. I’d like some fresh issues inserted. Also there were some character deaths in this one that I hated and felt like they were unnecessary. I love Tobias and Geri and I wanted more of them. I can’t wait to see how this ends.
Not my usual type of read, The Red Hood Chronicles, has quickly become one of my favorite series. Geri is a wonderful heroine, surrounded by a dynamic and multi-faceted band of characters. Meeks makes great use of fairytale storytelling in a refreshing modernization, taking readers on a great adventure through folklore history.
Really enjoyed this part of the story. Some of characters turned out to be even more morally corrupt than previously thought and others so much better. Amy is undoubtedly becoming one of my favorite characters. The pop culture references are awesome. Can't wait to see if anything happens between Barbie and Buffy.
Rebellious hood what can i say except amazingly written, geri risks it all to save her mate tobias, to help the surviving slayers find some peace and there strength back, meanwhile the ravens are looking for geri as they need her blood. So much happens ..
This is the fourth in a wonderfully detailed and well developed series that has a prequel as well as a spin off based on the original histories rediscovered within. It’s well written, well paced, and intriguing.
Brilliant retake on red riding hood. Glad there are more book s as I really want to know the history of each sub group. Can I just say I love Amy she's hilarious
This book was sad but good. Also had a happy part or two, so that helped. I wasn’t expecting to get thru this without loss. Looking forward to the last book.
Finally one where Geri doesn’t act too stupid, so thumbs up. All in all though, I felt that while at last a lot of pieces fell into place, it’s overall a bit meager storywise. Little actually happened while at the same time, a lot happened. Still, a necessary installment in the series and I hope that in the next and last book of the series, we’ll find a strong, smart Geri and a satisfying finish to the series.
