Good theology is good psychology. That's the premise of this Bible Study series on the relationship between psychology and the Bible. Some people see psychological principles and Biblical theology at odds. However, the author of this book contends, that such is not the case. She asserts that many principles of "modern" psychology were anticipated by the writers of the Bible thousands of years ago. This series looks at what the Bible has to say about depression, anger, forgiveness, meditation, hope, self-esteem, self-actualization and fear. The author examines principles of modern psychology in the light of the Bible. She presents clear practical ways to apply both psychological and Biblical principles to everyday emotional stresses.
I am a retired college professor. I live in California's Central Valley where it gets hot in summer. I hate summer. Currently, I'm writing full time. I don't think of myself as retired as much as the college is paying me to write my novels and Bible studies. I've been published in just about every venue. Fiction, nonfiction, radio drama, live drama, video documentaries, novels and book length nonfiction. I've been traditionally published in magazine and book format, and I'm currently engaged in Indie writing publishing my own stuff and loving it.
I live a fairly quiet life. I'm a life long single and live with my five cats. So, I'm keeping alive the cultural archetype of the Retired Old Maid School Teacher with Cats.
I write science fiction and cozy mysteries and have combined the two in my Dark Side of the Moon mystery series. I also teach writing and self-publishing in my online classes. Once a teacher....
A very interesting Bible Study by Terri Main. I learned a lot studying this one, although I disagree with one statement she made. In a section about Depression, she made the statement that most of us experience depression at one time or another in our lives. I disagree. I do not believe most of us do. Many do get depression, but I have never been depressed in my 80 years of life and have not know any of my family going through it. Even though I have lost several close loved ones, including my late wife, I have never felt depressed because I know they are in a better place and I am looking forward to joining them. I turn all my cares over to the Lord instead of dwelling on them. She does cover several points about dealing with depression and other things that appear to be excellent.
This book was a refreshing look at the harmony between psychology and Biblical theology. The author explains soul (self) talk, self-esteem, identity in Christ, and freedom from guilt, fear, anger, anxiety, and depression. She concludes this easy-to-read book with hope for us. The book includes scripture-based study questions. Highly recommended!
