Viking Omegaverse #1

Stolen by the Wolves

Rate this book
Once the wolves of Dublin take control, who knows what they plan to do with us?

They are savages. And we are at their mercy.

It is the year 870. Hordes of Vikings sweep through the green lands of Northumbria and Ireland, raiding and pillaging. Soon, no kingdom will be safe from their bloodlust.

Tamsin has always been safe behind the walls of her sanctuary. Safe enough to yearn for a glimpse of the world beyond. But with the Viking threat looming, even her secretive kingdom must open its gates to invite allies.

And she gets far more than a glimpse.

The three lords of Dublin are on the hunt for women of her kind. Thrain Mordsson, youngest of the three and bent on a personal vendetta, doesn't take much stock in the ancient prophecies. He marches into battle for the glory rather than the spoils.

Until he finds himself standing right in front of a fiery-haired princess, and the touch of her hand wakes an ancient magic in them both.

Once Thrain has earned Tamsin's trust, once he has tasted her in the darkness of her godhouse, his loyalties begin to splinter. And all he knows is that he must protect her from the coming storm at any cost.

Stolen by the Wolves is a fantasy non-shifter omegaverse romance based loosely on real historical events. In this new slow-burn reverse harem series, kingdoms break apart, and ancient magic is rediscovered. Intended for mature listeners.

USAT bestselling author Lyx Robinson spent her childhood in Brittany, where she became familiar with all sorts of old Celtic legends and landscapes. Living in a place with such strong tethers to its past made her naturally inclined towards fantasy, which is what she loves to read and write the most.

A late-comer to romance, Lyx fell head-first into the omegaverse in 2020 and decided to combine what she loves writing most - historical fantasy and erotica.

You guys....

....either I got a different book than everyone else or I just read this wrong.

Cause this is me right now:

description

And I really don't understand.

This was a Viking book, an omegaverse book, AND had glowing reviews from friends I trust. Meaning?

This should have been a complete and utter slam dunk for me.

And I feel like a complete ass for not loving this. Thus, I can only guess why this didn't work for me, since I clearly missed the plot.

Guess #1: My Expectations

They were obviously too high. I LOVE Viking romance. I've been reading it since age 12 and I love it. There isn't enough of it. When I see it, I devour it.

I also ADORE omegaverse. It's one of my favorite guilty pleasure smut baskets.

Put them together? And you have what amounts to an exponentially multiplied drug high of the tallest order.

Or...alternatively, you merely have expectations that are simply too lofty for any actual entity to ever realistically meet.

Guess #2: The Prologue

This threw me for a loop and only served to make those aforementioned expectations skyrocket even higher.

Based on the prologue, I thought things would be starting off with a bang. I thought we were hitting the ground running. That we were jumping into the nitty gritty - the nittiest of gritty, people! - straight off the bat.

And I was ready for it.

description

Except this book said siiiiiike, pump the brakes, ass clown.

Cause when we get to chapter one, we are in the year 870.

And the prologue was in 873.

description

For my fellow non-math wizards, that's a three year difference.

Meaning? I saw the writing on the wall...I'm a very good wall-writing reader, I must say...so I knew chances were good I wouldn't get to enjoy what was promised in the prologue for quite some time, if even in this book.

And ****spoiler alert****

************************
************************
************************
************************
************************

I was right.

But more on that later. Back to me in chapter one:

description

Nuff said.

Guess #3: The...Slow Roll

This book took a cold minute to heat up for me. After being jarred by the prologue, we were thrown into a society for which the rules took some learning to understand. Now, don't get me wrong, I'm not knocking the world-building here. It was excellent and far surpassed my expectations.

Which might have been the problem.

I was expecting omegaverse viking smut level world-building...and this was more akin to full on fantasy levels of world-building. And the shift in my head gears was a little rough and required an adjustment period.

Add to that the fact that our two main love interests don't even lay eyes on each other until well after 25% and I just had a really hard time getting into this. Things moved at a similar pace for the rest of the book. And the book ended with us still years away from the promised prologue. Years.

Aside from all that, as I said, the world-building was impressive for this genre. Also, the character development was very well done. Tamsin was great and I also really liked Thrain.

In short, I think I just read this wrong. All my fellow omegaverse-loving friends loved this and I am very much an outlier for not. So take this review with the proverbial grain of salt.

I don't have it in me to write the review this book deserves, but all the gushing five star reviews weren't lying. This is the Viking Omegaverse I've been wanting to read. The premise is not only brilliant, but executed perfectly with skill. I'll do a bullet point list of what I liked/want to see more of later.

What I liked:

➵ No info dumping. World-building, exposition, and character-development were developed artfully

➵ I adored how the Omegaverse tropes were interwoven within the mythology of the world

➵ The heroine was very likable. I appreciated how she wasn't perfect -

➵ Fantasy & historical elements were A+

➵ While there wasn't a lot of smut, what was written at the beginning was sensual. I took it as the author tipping the reader off that she's capable of writing steamy scenes. The small intimate moments were electric, little things like holding hands, etc. The couple had good chemistry.

➵ I'm terrified that this is RH, I'm so attached to Thrain. Also brothers in RH isn't my preference, but I'm going to work really really hard while reading to accept it. I'm assumming his brothers will end up with Thrain & Tamsin. idk.

➵ At times Thrain's inner POV went on for a bit too long and was too angsty for what I would've preferred (I highlighted and later might pull a quote to give an example. This is me nitpicking big time).

➵I would like to see even more grittiness from Thrain when he's fighting/interacting with other men. I really like the dynamic of how he's chilvarous towards the heroine, but ...like a Viking when fighting/defending his woman, etc. I think the author could make him even grittier during these times? Toning down his angsty, soft POV a bit towards the heroine might help this balance? Again, I'm being super nit picky. I very much like that he's considerate of her, it could be toned down or mixed up. Sometimes I felt like it was being spelled out as well to the reader, and could have been expressed with less words. I know this isn't very helpful to an author unless I specifically pull out quotes, so I might do that later. Nevermind. I just looked at the quotes and I think this is very subjective.

➵ I like the amount of plot; the religious and cultural conflicts; the betrayals

➵ This author has excellent beta readers. This read like a book from a seasoned author.

➵ Even though this was a slow-burn I was sucked into the story, and felt the suspense. I'm glad I waited till I was in the mood for a slow-burn fantasy romance. I may not have enjoyed it as much if I read it earlier when I was in a different reading mood. If someone gets impatient, I would suggest just setting the book down and waiting till you're in the mood/feel drawn in by the story. I was drawn in pretty quickly.

➵ On the author's website she promised there would be playlists in her FB group. I went there and only found a couple youtube videos. I would encourage her to follow through and actually post playlists. I like that kind of thing :)

➵ Okay, I just read the author note and she was originally a fantasy/SF author. So this isn't a brand new author. I'm not completely surprised by that and I'm desperate to know her other pen name.

Trigger Warnings:
Safety:
Word Count: 98K+
Cliffhanger: Yes, this apparently is going to be a six book series. Book 3 is currently out. I'm totally fine waiting on books if the author is open with readers about her progress in the series/with the upcoming book. This author is so I'll be reading the next book.

This was like cracking open an ancient scroll that said, Welcome to horny medieval Ireland. Here’s 400 years of world-building, and also? Soulmates. And you know what? I ate it up.

Tamsin is this guarded, brave little omega trying to survive politics, prophecy, and the chaos of royal diplomacy (read: arranged marriage and sacrifice). And then there’s Thrain—who I was fully expecting to be all broody and stabby, but instead?? The man showed up with respect and emotional intelligence?!?? I was on the floor.
Is it slow burn? Yes. Is there a lot of setup? Also yes. I now know more about omegaverse power structures in 870 AD than I ever expected to. But the writing pulled me in and the slow unraveling of Thrain and Tamsin’s connection felt earned. If you want immediate spice, this ain’t it (yet). But I have very high hopes.

I’m making this review like a 3.5 in my head, because the cover doesn’t show that Thrain only has 2 fingers on his left hand. Which is a shame because it’s such a beautiful cover

For all my steam loving, omegaverse reading friends out there, it is important to note that this story has ZERO steam. Wait, I take that back, there were a couple of scenes at the beginning with the H and OW, and two hot masturbatory scenes. There is no intercourse between the main love interests. Also why did my friends label this as reverse harem? Cause the Vikings don't mind sharing at the same time? That's not a reverse harem, that's just a big fun free-for-all.

The world building is excellent, but there are a bajillion characters you have to remember, different gods are worshiped, and very different religious/ritualistic scenes throughout. Believing I was diving into a richly steamy, romantic Viking Omegaverse story, I was frustrated. Had I known it was more like reading a fantasy novel with that genre of storytelling, I think I would have enjoyed it more.

There are some hints that this story would be a classic alpha/omega story:
The act of knotting is tantamount to a sacred mating ritual, just as potent as a marriage proposal –not some weightless act to perform solely for pleasure’s sake.
Sadly, there is no knotting in this story. There is an attempt at knotting between OW and the H at the beginning, but she can't take it. If knotting is such a sacred ritual to his people, I don't really understand why he attempted to give it to this random woman, just because she asked for it.

I did love that this book made me think about religious/spiritual beliefs. We all worship so differently, and those beliefs affect how we live and treat others on this planet. There is one scene where the H watches a ritual and knows he can't step in and stop it. It was very hard to read and I kept thinking something good would come if it, but it was simply death.
My hands ball into fists. My throat burns as I stay rooted to my spot. If I move even a muscle, I know I will launch myself at the guards, all forty of them, and tear out their throats without further thought.
It made me wonder how many people could stand by and watch a ritualistic scene like this play out, and accept that this is a cultural practice and do nothing.

It's suggested there are shifters of sorts, and the men and women definitely go sex crazy during the moons cycles, but there was no actual shifting.

I feel like this book deserves 5 stars for the world building, but I didn't necessarily enjoy the reading, so I'm going with 2.5 rounded up. Will I read the next one in the hopes that there will be in a pair bond and possible knotting? Perhaps.

This is a new-to-me author, so I really wasn't sure what to expect. Definitely not an utterly captivating, well researched and brilliantly written historical fantasy, set amidst the Viking occupation of Alba. Make that doubly surprised when one considers this is a debut novel. Clearly the author has taken the time and effort to practice and hone her craft before publishing, since the quality of her storytelling was outstanding. I actually feel as though the title, Stolen by the Wolves, doesn't do justice to this richly woven tale. To me that title is reminiscent of those mass produced, generic and bland PNR stories, which is about as far from the truth as one can get.

I adore omegaverse stories but, if we're being totally honest here, they aren't generally the most literary of stories. However this was a class above, the world building quickly drew me in and this felt much more like reading viking fantasy. All the classic omegaverse elements appeared to be contained within the tale, though we didn't get to see nesting and knotting as this is a slow-burn romance. And that is the only time I could use the word "slow" about the story, with it's well-paced, intricate and engaging plot.

Not only do we get to know the two main protagonists, we also see them grow as characters. Thankfully both Tamsin and Thrain were eminently likeable individuals, adding to the sheer pleasure to be found when reading this opening episode of their story. They were real and imperfect in that can't-get-enough-of-them way. This was backed up with a good supporting cast. I would have liked a little more depth in some of these secondary characters, though that didn't spoil my enjoyment in any way.

The exposition was perfectly balanced, enough so that the world building was solidly achieved but without unnecessary information dumps disrupting the flow and pace of the story. As the first part of a potential six part series, there is a good amount of character building and scene setting performed. However this was achieved whilst still providing a powerful read that has totally hooked me in. So much so that I have pre-ordered this book and will be buying the rest of the series too.

Uhhh . . .

Huh.

WHOA.

5 STARS!!

I grabbed this one for free on Kindle solely because it had Omegaverse in the subtitle. (Yeah, I'm classy like that.) Then yesterday, I opened it because I was looking for a spot of smut (yes, more class) and imagine my surprise that this is a full-on epic historical fantasy.

Admittedly, I skimmed the first 15-20% looking for the smut 😂 but by then it was too late. I was hooked!

OMG! The intimacy the author created between Thrain and Tamsin? Incredible.

And then the resulting unavoidable betrayal? I felt it in my bones.

And then the satisfaction as this installment came to an end? Amazing.

Oh, and by the way, there is smuttiness in the pages . . . hot, dirty, delicious smut, but you'll have to be prepared to care about the characters. 😍

Now I have to pace myself because, while the 2nd book is already out, the 3rd isn't due until summer. 😱

I feel like there is such a fine line between lust and disgust, especially in this book. It combines Vikings and the omegaverse, which was a combo I didn't know I needed but apparently LOVED ♥️

The period, the power dynamics, the constant action and the whole omegaverse situation definitely played into the emotional rollercoaster that was this book. I will say the romance doesn't really make an appearance until maybe 30%, but I didn't notice it as much as I usually do. It was replaced by frequent violence and copious amounts of plotting. I personally loved the plotting, but I enjoyed seeing how strategic and fake they were all being.

This was my first proper omegaverse. We have a complicated relationship. I previously read one and all they did was growl at each other, it was weird. This book is making me reconsider giving this trope another go.

It does slightly remind me of ‘Blood & Ash’ with the main MMC acting as this fierce protector and essentially becoming a barrier between the FMC and people who wish to harm her. Don’t get me wrong, he was in no way Prince Charming. Maybe if Prince Charming had a thirst for death 🫣

The main MMC in this book was revered as this amazing warrior and happily takes on the attention. He was very focused on his duty, but I really started to see it waver as the story progresses. I wonder why 🤔

I really liked the FMC, as she had a lot of repressed emotions. She is yet to really explode and go all warrior princess, but I’m waiting patiently. Despite never leaving the palace, she was very tactically minded and used others' perceptions of her to get what she wanted.

This was labelled as a ‘slow reverse harem’, but I think this was intended to describe the series as a whole and not book 1. There was no harem in this book and the romance was limited. Sh1t does happen though and you can guess which characters will be introduced more in the next book 😅

In the beginning, there was a lot of world-building and character introductions (and violence), but it wasn’t a pile-on. I initially wanted more romance earlier on (I maybe still do), but I understood why it wasn’t. That doesn’t mean I wasn’t waiting in anticipation though.

A lot of Norse words were introduced, as well as a plethora of characters. You will question if a character has already appeared or not. They probably have. I kept forgetting people and a lot of this vocabulary starts with the letter V 😂.

Going into a Viking book I was a little worried about the treatment of women. It’s described as a similar backdrop to ‘Games of Thrones’, so I knew it wasn’t going to be an equal playing field situation. There was still a power imbalance, but the MMC respected women’s boundaries and drilled that into his clan. The FMC and her cousin are particularly revered, as they are considered daughters of a goddess and therefore sacred.

There is a OW situation at the start of the book, prior to their meeting (I know some people aren’t keen on that). Also SA and domestic abuse does occur briefly, but it doesn’t progress into anything more triggering.

The next book is downloading now 🪫🔋

Thanks for the recommendation Rachel. You rescued me from my book slump 💕

This is an Omegaverse like i’ve never read before…..and that is a good thing!
Because this story? It’s not just me Alpha, you Omega. It’s not just i want,i take.
This is a story that has a background that’s stunningly beautiful.
And i’m not just saying that because Lyx Robinson had mercy on me,and very generously gave me the ARC.
No,i really LOVE this one!
And to think this is the first story she published…..
It’s set in 870,in Britannia, and that in itself gives the story a different vibe.
It tells the story of Tamsin,a Briton princess, niece to King Arthgal.
And it tells the story of Thrain,Viking jarl of Dublin.

Tamsin is worried not only about herself, but her twinbrother Rhun as well.
She’s going to married off to gain an alliance with the Albans, but Rhun has to go through a trial that could cost him his life……
When he fails that trial, all Tamsin can think of,is how to save his life, and maybe her betrothed can help.
Only once she meets him,all she can feel,is disgusted.
One of the monks that accompanies him,though…..he’s a very different man,one she feels an attraction to.
An attraction that must be because of the full moon….right?
But he ís the one to find a solution to her predicament, and to her joy he makes sure Rhun is safely tucked away on one of the ships they arrived on.

From the moment Thrain sees Tamsin,he knows Varindøtur exsist.
And Tamsin calls to his Varg like no woman ever did.
But his disguise means he has to deceive her…..and he knows that even though she likes him now, she’ll hate him later.
Until the moment she needs a safe place…..

This first part of the series had me spellbound.
Even though this is a very slow burn, this is a story that made an impact.
Tamsin is a girl with a backbone, one that stands her ground and is loyal to the ones she cares about.
Thrain is a man with a great sense of self restraint, and he is a man that will always defend the ones that need him.
I can’t wait until they are together in every sense of the word, because they were bound to be from the start!

This had fabulous reviews so I dived straight in.

Honestly I wasn’t sure to begin with. I didn’t like how it started. My problem was the prologue. I know this is a romance so ultimately I know how it’s going to end. But I like the journey, the build-up, the slow simmer of attraction. With hindsight I should have skipped the prologue.

Anyway the prologue is short and the rest is really good. So it’s straight onto the next one for me now.

Ok my expectations going into this were way off. I thought this was going to be similar to most omegaverses where it’s mostly focused on the couple and spicy scenes but this felt more like a fantasy than anything else. The world building was great, and the story itself was very well thought out and interesting but since I was expecting a faster passed plot, this felt extra slow. The MCs don’t even meet until well into the book and there’s a lot of world building, religions, and characters to learn between it all. This felt more like an introduction book setting up the rest of the series as not a lot happened beside laying the foundation and some development between the MCs.

I am intrigued on where this story goes and will go into the next book with the correct expectations. I think I could really like the series so I’m excited to read the next one!

Pro: Finally, an audio book! That makes a reread so much easier!

Con: Book 2 is not out in audio format yet T-T sad sad sad

Another chance for me to present to you ...

THE DEFINITIVE Omegaverse series
- 5 starred Care reviews

(and yes I am calling it after book 1)

I don't have time for a review, because I am in Japan (and enjoying myself!).

but this was everything that would make me defend fanfiction with my bare hands, because it gave us this glorious mash-up: a clearly experienced history buff and science fiction writer tackling glorious smut while still creating a tough world for her characters (and consequences!! actions with consequences in omegaverse - can you credit it?? I know I can't)

It was amazing and this series already, after just one book, belongs into the hall of fame of romance sub genres.

I might’ve bought this before I even knew what an omegaverse was👀… because of the gorgeous cover, and Vikings. Then I bought a special edition of it, and figured I should probably read it.

I really enjoyed the Norse mythology, historical elements, and world building. Considering this is my first omegaverse, I appreciated the slow burn, forbidden love, close proximity, enemies to lovers, touch her & you die, “who did this to you”, and the hidden identity tropes really worked well! Can’t wait to get to know Thrain Mordsson, and the other wolves a bit more. 😉

Y’ALL. THIS BOOK!!!!!!!!! is so much more than i expected in every way, and i’m utterly enthralled. enraptured. hypnotized. bewitched. FULLY IN FOR THE SLOWEST BURN OF MY LIFE POSSIBLY BUT EXCITED ABOUT IT!!!!

i have had days to gather my thoughts about this and i’m still barely coherent with sheer glee, joy, and excitement at stumbling across a gem of a book that is the perfect historical fantasy, with beautiful, complicated romance dynamics, delicious and meaty religious themes, and, oh yeah, OMEGAVERSE IT’S A MF OMEGAVERSE VIKING WHY CHOOSE SLOW BURN HISTORICAL FANTASY SERIES. AND IT’S LITERALLY PERFECT. let me count the ways.

1. this tackles the viking invasion of britain era with flawless historic precision, and i now know that if my history textbooks gave me a dash of religious trauma and romance, i’d have had a 4.0 GPA.
2. the romance is ACHINGLY slow burn (a trope i know not everyone loves, but i sure as f*ck do), as it’ll ultimately become a why choose over the course of the series, with a primary MMC that is an actual angel man. perfect. flawless. occasionally does murders but is Baby Girl.
3. IT’S MOTHERF*CKING OMEGAVERSE. and before you scroll away because you’re not an omegaverse person, this is the perfect omegaverse for fantasy folks who’ve never tried omegaverse, because it’s built in so perfectly within the context of the story that it feels more like a religious theme than a fun smutty subgenre.
4. IT’S GOING TO BE A SIX BOOK SERIES. AND BOOKS TWO AND THREE ARE GIRTHY. y’all there is content to be CONSUMED here. DEVOURED. this is everything i could have ever wanted and i’m thrilled about it.

i will acknowledge that this is likely not for everyone — it’s a huge commitment, and is very slow burn and VERY SLOW PACED, but the details we get are so delicious that i’m eating this series up. i do not want to be parted from it and i hope it never ends so i never have to be.

but if you’re a historical fantasy person with a penchant for hot vikings, can appreciate the delicate art of a slow burn why choose, and are down to dive into some omegaverse-related religious trauma, I AM BEGGING Y’ALL TO TRY THIS OUT. i’m literally in love. and as soon as i finish this i will be commencing a full vikings series binge watch on netflix to fill the void.

It's a beautiful story, all right?!
But... why in Odin's name they forgot to mention it will end in a cliffhanger??? I mean... I'll have to wait how many years to see the end of this?

See? I'm not made for series, unless there is a closure and a HEA at the end of each installment of the series.

I'm so mad right now 😒 😅😅😅

Fantastic debut work, lush and vivid in its world building and storytelling.

It is a very rare day when I get to applaud an omegaverse tale for great characterizations, world building, and plot lines. It's not a subgenre known for any of these things—it's erotic horror, so none of that is really the point to it. It's nearly as rare to have the joy of saying that informed consent comes along for the ride, which is sexy as hell.

SbtW manages to blend OV with some werewolf-lore elements—no shifters in this story, but the full moon plays heavily into the dynamics—throws in pre-Roman Celtic elements and wraps it all up in a story about Anglo-Saxon Britain/Ireland/Scotland and the Viking invasions/expansions of that time period. I was absolutely smitten with it.

Now, for an OV story, this is very light on the smut, with no serious action between the mains in this first installment. But there is a beautiful and believable love story developing here, as well as a very thoughtful discussion of OV and its tropes.

As always after the madness of my moon-craze has passed, I find myself wondering how absurd it is to be so violently propelled towards strangers like this.

I think this is the first time I've seen a character in an OV be so reflective on their own nature and compulsions that take over. And I appreciated how scenes of sex for fun/compulsion are portrayed versus meaningful contact with the mains.

“The moon governs you,” I remind us both. “Like it governs me.”

“The moon readies me for anyone,” she whispers. “But I am choosing you. I would choose you even in daylight.”

Tamsin's responses are equally nuanced, and she's fully aware of being caught up in her biology versus contact she genuinely desires and wants. () The body isn't what determines consent, the mind is.

Oh. And did I mention that sexual double standards get touched on here? Because they absolutely do. No one has a great time in Tamsin's home keep—the 18 year old boys especially, ACK—but women's being expected to literally punish themselves to keep from ringing the devil's doorbell and fully repress themselves is something. The joys of prudish and sex negative Xtianity, yeah?

While the sex in this story is light, the plot is not. If you like event driven action, political machinations, and a lot of world building in your reads, well, you're in luck today: this book as all three. And a little ancient magic too. The Curse of The First Installment is the inevitable information dumps that happen when trying to set the scene, but the first 25% set up that happens here is easy to read and digest. (Having to Google how to pronounce a lot of the names aside. But that happens any time an author decides to go Scandi or Irish/Scot with their choices.)

There's so much to love in here, and I'll never have enough room to touch on it all.

This first installment ends in a logical lull in activity of the events, but nothing I would call a true cliffhanger. You'll want to know what happens next, but nothing is hanging in the balance at the point this one cuts off.

And I am so excited for the second installment.

I'm always a bit wary when romance authors make ambitious plans for a series, but I fully trust Robinson knows where these are headed and how to pace the six books she has planned. Since said plan also states this is a slow burn RH, I'm assuming two others will join Tamsin and Thrain down the road, and I'm genuinely happy to say I have no idea who they will add to their family unit as this story progresses.

Amazing first story, and can we take a moment to appreciate the fact the cover art is made by her as well? WOW. I hope there will be some type of merch with it someday down the line; it is absolutely stunning.

Both story and art knocked out of the park.

Well written but so much darker than I was anticipating

I don’t know what I thought this book would realistically be, but it definitely wasn’t this. This book was filled with political intrigue, deception, destructive rituals, with a light spicing of omegaverse heat.
I’m mad at myself because I always try to only start a series once it’s been written and for some reason I thought this was a standalone. It’s not.
The MCs are wonderfully complex and have moral cultural obligations that muddy the waters of any potential relationship. Be prepared for a slow slow burn!

Spice: 2.5/5

Triggers: ritualistic murder, SA, domestic violence, war

4,5 'historical omegaverse' stars

This book was such a nice surprise. I've had it on my tbr for ages and nearly forget about it. But since I'm currently very enthusiastic about omegaverse (YES, Pit Babe is getting season 2!!) I thought that after numerous MM omegaverses, it's time for my first MF one.

I expected a lot of smut and hoped for a solid plot. However, it was the other way around, lol. What I got was very little smut (I'm counting on next books to deliver🤞) and a whole lot of a very intruguing plot. The story is set in 9th century Britain and I have to say the author really did a good job on history details. In the author's note in the end, she talks about her fascination with this time period and really, kudos for the research. She created very interesting blend of history and fantasy with omegaverse on top.

I have to say it took me some time to warm up to main charachters. Tamsin can be so stubborn sometimes and not really in a good way but considering her age and sheltered upbringing, it's understandable. And by the end of the book, I really started to like her. Thrain has the looks and all the traits for a perfect book boyfriend and I'm sure he will earn that title in the future books ❤️‍🔥

I have big hopes for . I have no idea what role he's supposed to play in the future but so far he's been a likeable charachter and I hope he'll continue to be. Eormen has a potential and I also looking forward what will become of her.

Ivar and Olaf have been enigmas so far. We haven't exactly seen much of them, so it's difficult to say anything but at least they both have interesting pasts, or so it seems.

Getting back to smut, there really wasn't much of it. Our main couple hasn't even get together for real. However, there were some orgies to show us, we indees are in omegaverse 😄 (and I think that was promising).

I didn't really miss smut but it's true I was reading You're Not My King! at the same time and I had all the knoting there to keep my satisfied 😏 so, choosing this book mainly for sexy times, it's not a good decision. But plot wise, it's amazing! 👍

I'm not sure if this is a spoiler but ok.

So, for the end, I think I would recommend this book to those who loved The Last Kingdom but wished there would be more (romantic) sexy times 😉

Very solid writing. The cover did not lie on this one, sometimes judging a book by it's cover is ok lol.

I usually really dislike anything omegaverse. I can never understand the appeal of it. The whole heat and especially knotting thing always sounded gross to me and the alpha/omega thing just seemed over the top. However, this book incorporated it into the Viking/Middle Age period of the British Isles where it actually made sense and was romantic.

I mean standing ovation to this first time author with how this was handled. The duality of how the Alphas/Omegas were viewed in each society was just chef's kiss. The Vikings embrace the ferociousness that makes them Vyrgen (Alphas) and the Britons/Christians despise it since it makes them more "violent and lusty" liking it to being cursed by the devil. The Vanirdottior (Omegas) being sacred daughters of Freya to the Vikings and being reviled by the Britons for being cursed really added to the story too. I'm not sure if I am explaining it well here, but mainly it showed how a person's natural state of being was viewed in a vastly different way between the two societies. It contributed to the plot and world building.

I mean anyone who is a fan of the show "The Last Kingdom" or "Vikings" will absolutely love this story/series. This is the most detailed and well researched (minus the omegaverse au-ness) story that I have ever read, the author really did their home-work.

Looks like this will eventually be a reverse harem, Thrain's brothers will eventually be included in later installments as love interests to the FMC Tamsin. The author mentioned there will be 6 books in total in this series, so it will take a while to get there it seems. The romance between Thrain and Tamsin was a bit of a medium burn in this book as very little happens in the smut/romance department. Mainly heavy and a bit of romancing on Thrain's part. It's a good medium burn though and it sets up for a deeper relationship later on.

One last thing I want to mention is that currently the Alphas do not turn into wolves nor do the Omegas. I know some omegaverses do this, but this world/story does not, at least currently. Being an Alpha is characterized by the men having heightened senses and being an excellent fighter, while being an Omega means the women go into heat (do not have periods) and that's about it. Maybe the men and women get actual magical powers later on, not sure as this is the first book.

Definitely recommend this if you like plotty fantasy romances. I will be reading the second book.

Fan-tas-ti-ka!!! Ploju atsistojus!

Historical Romance
Vikings
Omegaverse
Dark Fantasy
Political Intrigue
Slow STEAMY Spice

I just adored this book! I can always tell how much I love a book by how much my husband gets told. I’m pretty sure he side-eyes my over enthusiasm, but I don’t even care. It was good, and he needed to know!

First off, Omegaverse is very iffy for me. I have tried quite a few, but have only enjoyed a whopping two. One of them was a historical fantasy as well, so maybe that’s my jam. Also, this was wayyy darker than I had anticipated. So be warned, there are some events that take place that will make your soul shrivel. Another thing, this is a sloooooow burn reverse harem. So slow that book one only focuses on one MMC, and even though there is only 3rd base-like spice – the STEAM and intamacy is off the charts. I have a feeling book two is gonna be sweltering.

OK, with all that out of the way, the story: World building is freaking fantastic. I know nothing about Vikings. I saw one episode of the TV show. That’s the extent of my knowledge. It made me interested enough to Google history stuff, and I feel like I learned so much. The characters are great. Tamsin, the FMC, is as strong as she can be in a world that doesn’t give women much say. She does fight for the things she wants, and tries to go against the system while keeping to her strong religious beliefs. Thrain, our first MMC and focus of this book, is pretty darn swoon worthy. He’s the youngest of the ‘Three Lords of Dublin’ and part of a ruthless sect of Vikings setting out to take what they want. And that includes the women from Tamsin’s kingdom, which the lords believe are descended from the gods and made just for them.

This is just a small snippet of what its about. There is political drama, religious drama, betrayal and underneath all that, a budding love story that I have a feeling is gonna be pretty amazing.

3.5 Stars.
Despite the captivating start to this book, I deliberated over my rating. The first few chapters gave this story a sluggish start, maybe in part due to the effort I needed to grasp the different ethnic and cultural factions, and get a fix on the geographical locations. Mostly, though, the slow start seemed due to Thrain and Tamsin, the hero and heroine, not meeting until well into the story, perhaps a quarter of the way into it. I realize the full scene needed to be set before bringing the main characters into it in a way many contemporary romance books don’t require. Yet, doing so created some dissatisfaction I couldn’t shake.

The author’s attention to detail was remarkable. Even at the steady pace her storyline kept, the author crammed as much detail into the plot as we needed; as much as we could want. This world is very well-fleshed out. In one enthralling scene, you can visualize Tamsin amongst the other unwed Daughters of Clota, dancing gracefully under the influence of their heat. They moved sinuously in a circle around the “Cursed Boys” in the firelight and under the light of the full moon. It was beautiful and impactful writing. And there were many more such scenes—some happy, some horrifying—the author used to enthrall us.

I liked Tamsin, yet I was also a little disappointed in her. She fought like a she-wolf when she learned she and the others had been betrayed. And when Tamsin discovered her “Monk’s” true identity, I burst into tears for her. I admit I applauded her reaction when he demanded to have the dagger back from her. Served him right! But she was of royal blood and she often acted like it too. I guess it is an expected way for a young princess to behave but, for a heroine I wanted to cheer for and love, I thought her nose was often a little too high in the air. She was pretentious at times, and often so toward Thrain, unless she was trying to pressure him into doing things she wanted, then she pleaded quite prettily. She sometimes seemed shallow. Maybe she lacked maturity.

Apart from being one of the hated enemies, Thrain is otherwise a careful, caring and honorable man. He is infinitely patient with Tamsin. When Thrain so tenderly treated her self-inflicted injuries I cried for him; he was so protective, so despondent in his hopeless love for her.

This would have been a 5-star book for me. But I was disappointed at the glacial development of the main characters’ relationship. I felt the author should have brought them together before the end of the book. I subtracted a star for that. When I arrived at the very end of the book and nothing else was resolved either, I realized this was a cliffhanger and that a 2nd book is coming. I took another half-star off for that. Nonetheless, I enjoyed the story thus far and I am looking forward to the rest of the series. Thanks be!—at least the author did give us an idea of where the story heads from here in her Prologue. 3.5 Stars.

My history and romance loving heart loved this debut novel with Vikings and omegaverse. Stolen by the Wolves did not read like a debut for me. I was immediately captured by the characters and the world-building. As the blurb describes, this is a slow burn and the focus of this first book lies with introducing the world, the FMC and other major characters, including focusing on one particular male Viking. I'm excited to see how the reverse harem element will build and whether it will include men we've already met or new faces or a mix.

Tamsin struck me as a strong-willed FMC, but also someone willing to change when circumstances show that she needs to. She doesn't perfectly fit into the society that she was born into, which does lead to some negative consequences. I think that she'll only grow stronger as the series progresses and she's (hopefully) allowed more freedom to be herself and to challenge some of the beliefs she's held. I can also see the potential for her to challenge others' beliefs. I also loved her relationship with her twin brother.

The main male character in this book, and the other POV we get, is Thrain and I loved him. I loved his care and compassion for Tamsin and the chemistry between them from the beginning. He's still a strong, alpha male while wanting her to be safe, healthy, and happy. She doesn't know who he is when they first meet, which is a trope I don't usually enjoy, but I liked it here given the plot and these characters. We get a small taste of steamy moments with him and the foundation of building trust and romance, after a bit of deception and betrayal. At the same time, given the nature of their world and the omegaverse aspect, I expect there to be more bumps along the road in upcoming books. Hopefully though we'll get more of these devoted aspects to any guys' personalities because I really enjoyed that about Thrain.

The book doesn't end on a cliffhanger, just unresolved plot points following a major event in the story. I've been slumping and I picked this book up because I love RH with historical elements (fantasy or not) and I love omegaverse and I'm so pleased with how both were blended into this book.

What a delightful surprise. A historical fantasy omegaverse (or omegaverse-inspired, at least) set during the age of the Vikings. Tamsin is a likable heroine who is easy to root for as she is torn from her home (which turns out, wasn't so great) and stuck in an unbearable situation: arranged married to a cruel, monstrous man, her only hope for protection the Viking who betrayed her trust and slaughtered her kingdom's men.

The absolute slowest of burns (particularly as it's apparently going to be RH, and Tamsin has only interacted closely with one of the men thus far). Strong worldbuilding that is revealed slowly and naturally, with almost no obvious info-dumps. I look forward to reading the rest of this series.
