Dungeon Life #2

Dungeon Life 2: An Isekai LitRPG

Rate this book
A sentient dungeon discovers there are more dangerous things in his new world than even himself . . . as the dungeon-core isekai adventure series continues.

Not long ago, the dungeon known as Thedeim was a mere human. But after an up-close-and-personal meeting with a runaway semitruck—and subsequent dealings with a rather flustered Angel of Prodigals—he found himself in a new world, reincarnated as a run-down old house that just barely qualified as a dungeon. However, it didn’t take long for him to build his core, mana, and reputation, making friends along the way.

Nowadays, having vanquished the truly vicious dungeon Neverrest, Thedeim is finally getting comfortable. His array of minions—animal, insect, etc.—are well in hand and operating at full efficiency, while he enjoys managing daring delvers and awkward adventurers as needed. He’s also working to spread his (mostly) beneficent influence across the land. But it hasn’t been easy, what with guiding his own irascible scions, wrangling rogue dungeons, countering truly evil entities, providing for those he cares for, and basically keeping things as non-nightmarish as possible for everyone.

In short, he’s a very busy dungeon. And he’s about to get busier. Because there are those who don’t appreciate Thedeim’s efforts. And he’s about to discover that when you can’t make everybody happy, somebody is bound to become very, very unhappy . . .

This is second in a LitRPG series. Read in order.

Having read the first, you know more or less what to expect. This one has more PoV from the other characters than the dungeon (more than in the first). It is also more profound and has some very touching, heartwarming moments. Freddie and Rhonda, in particular, have some great growth as Thediem helps them "get their class" in some challenges that are simply perfect.

I don't have much more to say. I love seeing the growth, just all around. I love the new characters. I love the bit of action we get with a neighboring dungeon who isn't as murderous as Neverrest was, but still needs to be brought to heel. Thediem's solutions are often sideways and fit the circumstances in ways that feel natural to the story and established characters rather than the author simply making things be the way they want them. Five stars for this well-crafted tale that I thoroughly enjoyed.

A note about Chaste: Still as chaste as it is possible to be. The other PoVs are all about growth and interacting with dungeons, so there are zero shenanigans.

Continuing the story, mostly the same as the first except the editing is a bit better and now we shift character perspectives more allowing for a lot of world building and context.

Still a wholesome little story, not great by any means. But nice :)

This was a solid follow-up to the first volume. All the things I enjoyed remained in effect. We expand our view of the world as our MC expands his territory and get introduced to a few new dungeons.

Some new characters crop up from the townsfolk and the existing ones, like Freddy and Rhonda, continue to mature and develop.

I think the pacing is excellent as the author methodically introduces new characters, areas, and additional mechanics of how the dungeons work. Most of the new items contribute to a developing plot point and I enjoy the brick-by-brick buildup of the story so far. It reassures me that the author has a plan in place and won't write himself into a corner anytime soon.

Rock on

Though it was strange the big fight was in the middle, and we kind of chill while learning about an upcoming fight, I really enjoyed it. Very much slice of life slow pace, and the powers development is so interesting.

Probably closer to a 3.5

The book isn't bad not at all but it really lacks any notable climax in story building. The entire book reads more like a series of continuous short stories. Every major conflict or challenge the MC has to deal with is typically resolve easily without complications and quickly as well.

A second pain point I have is the shortness of the book. The book is already shorter than of the other fantasy books I read. On top of that, a significant portion of the book is just retelling something that has already happened from another character's perspective. The author does not do a good job of overlapping things and not repeating themselves so I would estimate at least 15% of the book is the author repeating something we already know happened and really feels pointless. Definitely feels like someone stacking their book to make it look thicker kinda of situations.

Nonetheless, the story and characters are interesting enough to keep me reading. Its definitely good read if you approach it with a more of a casual read with lower expectation.

It's a kids story book not really a dungeon core book

This book is really for kids there's a lot of getting in touch with your feelings and talking your feelings out and 1 of those coming of age storylines it's not really a dungeon core book where you see a lot of fighting and the dungeon getting stronger and things like that.... I seriously doubt I will read the 3rd book simply because I want to read a dungeon core book about the dungeon itself and how it gets stronger and better and things like that Being told what's going on in the story from multiple Perspectives.... Instead of actually being shown the activities and the conversations you're just getting info dumps over and over again......

I really start to love this series. This time the author was a lot less technical and got more into the characters, all of which are well rounded and absolutely adorable. I love it! The story is going at a good pace, there is enough tension to carry this nicely, and I dearly hope that the author is not as mean as my brain, because I'm starting to get an inkling about one of the main story arcs and it's not a nice one. I'd rather be proven wrong this time, thank you :)

I certainly will continue reading these as long as there's more. Love the world, the story, and the characters. Great writing!

I am loving this

While it has the problems most stories with a large cast of characters, namely not forgetting about secondary/tertiary characters, this is becoming one of my favorite stories.

The writing is fun with pop culture references that resonate with me and distinct characterization. While the MC is always winning, it feels earned rather than lucked into. And the plans feel logical and coherent without overly going into the details.

I eagerly await the next entry

Not bad, not good, just not my thing.

Book one was a pretty good dungeon core book, but it led to what this book became; which is not wholly a dungeon core book. It's not necessarily bad, if it's what you like, but when a dungeon core has the ability to communicate with the delvers and so on, it becomes a "fantasy" book where the MC just happens to have a Dungeon class.

And with as many POV changes, they don't even feel as the MC any more.

A lot of things happened in this book - dungeon fight, delving, expansion, new denizens, etc. It gets a bit overwhelming to keep track of everything. At the same time, felt like the plot was still plodding along, especially with the events still pretty much confined to the town. I liked the introduction of new characters as well as getting more depth to some of the side characters from the first book.

Another fun adventure in this series

I'm really enjoying this series. The blend of adventure, action, learning, expanding, battles (fierce, friendly, and sometimes even life-threatening), and friendship is already very well done.

Now, we start to see some politics, a bit of the wider world, and an even bigger threat (or possibly two!), looming on the horizon.

It will be interesting to see how things progress in book 3. 😃

I enjoy this series

I like the characters in this series. You really root for them all.
So far there's no real bad guy, but if this series continues on the way it has, there may be no real bad guy, or by the time one is introduced, Thediem may be too powerful for it to be a credible threat.
Looking forward to the next book.

2nd book, as good as the first

I’m greatly enjoying this series. The humor and imagination keep the tone light. The author does a great job of world building within the dungeon, and the areas he can see/sense. I like the different POV being offered too. I hope it’s not too long a wait for the third book.

I’m still enjoying this fresh new spin on dungeon litrpg. However I removed a star for repetitive dull monologues by the dungeon. Despite enjoying the new adventures I got stuck and almost didn’t finish the story. Some editing to weed out the excess self talk by the main character would really improve this story.

fun

The Dungeon grows and discovers a new dungeon in the Under as well as works to subordinate a dungeon that has gone mad with grief. He succeeds and grows in power.

It is a fun easy listen. The world is interesting as is the various magics. Pretty good flow and pacing. Marvelous narrator. Please enjoy

Loved It

Im truly loving this series. Theidiem is a one of a kind dungeon that definitely believes in doing things his way and never resting. The author definitely has a way with creative characters, humor, and knows how to pace a story to keep the reader interested and wanting more.

A must read

I could not believe that I was finished with the book. It was such an easy and fun read that I cannot wait for more. I want more of this story and more from this author in general.

Dungeon

Wow excellent world building . No main MC unless you count the main core dungeon personality. The author has a unique perspective on building a dungeon and it's inhabitants and the delivers. Can't wait for the next book.

Good read

Not a bad plot, much easier to read and understand the plots. Characters are well rounded and don't lose consistency, just for me, not a big fan of separate stories but this is easy to follow.

Looking forward to the next book hopefully, good one author.

The adventure continues!

Another delightful entry in the series. It's definitely more of a fun, light-hearted romp, but it does have It's serious moments. Ending felt a bit abrupt though.

worth the read

The adventure continues.
We meet new characters.
Does not feel quite as long or as full as the first book , but it is a very satisfying book nonetheless.
Leaves with open ends to some threads, but no real cliff hangers.
Looking forward to reading the next one .
You should read this book, but after the first one.

This is a cozy fantasy if I’ve ever heard. Nuff said. Thank you for the action, entertainment, and awesome characters and lessons that I think are essential to implement in our own lives. On to the next.

It keeps getting better

The second book in the series with great character and world building, leaning hard into the ‘Slow Life of a Dungeon Core’ theme. If you’re looking for a relaxing read and a peek into the daily life of a cooperative dungeon core, this is probably your bag.

Quite the romp, dungeon core style

What's a distracted nice young engineer to do ... so he's a dungeon core now! Lots of characters in parallel development, building, residing, delving and adventuring through out this new dungeon. Good family fun here.

the story continues at a pleasant pace with further world building focus and development. starting to worry about the sheet number of scions though. hope enough time is spent developing them well and keeping them in the loop

Still a fun read

Like my review of the first book, this is a fun lighthearted isekai dungeon core book, highly recommended. Characters are great, MC doesn't forget basic things as he gets more complex, and the works keeps expanding

10% read, and I just can't get into it.

I don't care anymore. Dungeon is bogged down in too many scions too many inhabitants, too much stuff. The book has no focus. That was already my issue at the end of book 1, and it just continues.

Although the idea is interesting, and the events are interesting also, it lacks in realism. The speed of things is unlikely, like "lets train them to do X", have it in 3 days.

Fun read

Continues well with the previous book. I can't wait for the 3rd. It leaves much more to be explored. I really am curious where this goes.
