Hi, I'm M.M. Crumley Your Author Extraordinaire (Also Known as M.M. Boulder)
As M.M. Crumley I write Urban Fantasy books full of supernatural action, nail-biting-mystery and; laugh-out-loud humor. Why? Because stories, myths, and legends have always been a huge part of my life... As a child, I liked nothing better than to lose myself in a world where magic and heroes were part of the fabric of existence.
As my pen name M.M. Boulder I write psychological thrillers and murder mysteries that bring the darker impulses we may not feel completely comfortable with into the light. My stories are full of lies and deaths, but there is always justice. A type of justice that's not afraid to get its hands dirty. I write morally ambiguous characters who are pushed to their limits and take matters into their own hands. In my world getting away with murder has never been so much fun!
No matter what I write every one of my characters are real to me. They exist. They are three-dimensional beings who demand that their stories be told. If I were to turn away from them, they would haunt me; and so I don't. Instead I chase after them and write down everything they say!
I have several series to help you scratch your itch for adventure: THE HOUSE OF GRAVES Series THE IMMORTAL DOC HOLLIDAY Series THE LEGEND OF ANDREW RUFUS Series JANEY FALKE: SAINT KILLER Series (Coming Soon) Five Deliciously Dark Psychological Thriller Novels And More...

Graves, Nash, Graves & Graves Investigative Services is still taking cases in the Hidden and still working to identify The Patron. After being kidnapped, tortured, memory wiped and released by The Patron, Tessa is back home with Ollie and Gisele. It does not take her long to recover her memories with a little more help from Thomas Jury. Now all three Graves women, along with Curtis and Julian, are scouring photos, articles and videos to try and identify The Patron so they can end him once and for all. Tessa’s only solid memory of The Patron is his voice as she was forbidden to look upon his face.
Another GNG&G case takes them to Philadelphia on a case for Abigail Jury, Thomas Jury’s mother and a powerful witch in her own right. Once Tessa and Curtis finish Abigail’s case, Tessa takes a side trip to a house still owned by the Graves family. For many years, it was Tessa’s dungeon where she would be left with The Patron by Virgil. During her visit to the torture room, a flash of a memory comes to Tessa and she finally sees The Patron’s face. Now all she needs to do is put a face with a name.
Tessa, Curtis, Ollie, Gisele and Julian once again focus to analyze all their information to finally identify The Patron and his identity is a shock and much, much closer to home than any of them could imagine.
The plan however has not changed. Find The Patron. End his reign of terror over the Graves family and the Hidden.
***Spoilers ahead if you haven't read the previous books! All spoilers for A Hunting, A Hunting We Will Go will be hidden. ****
First, let me talk about the good stuff. I liked Tessa a little more, well except for her interactions with Julien. Seriously, he deserves better and she needs to work not to be so awful. She's still not a great MC, but she was tolerable this book. I loved getting to see more of Curtis! And I felt like we got more insight in to Gisele, whom I love.
But the way Crumley starts the book is almost as frustrating as the way she ended book 3. Mild spoilers hidden here: I think the plot deserves better. In fact, the whole plot of this book was a let down. Another easy solve for Tessa, and the big realization that she gets to doesn't seem like it should have taken 4 books to come to. I have enjoyed Gisele's stories, and Curtis, and the banter in the previous books, but I'm not sure how much further those things can carry the series.
Tessa, Ollie, Curtis, and grandm....er, I mean Giselle, are back! It was worth the wait by far. It starts with Tessa coming home after disappearing for 3 days, thanks to The Patron. He has ransacked her mind again, and she has been....reset. This dismays everyone, but fear not, with help, she fights. There is a lot to unpack in this one, and I am not going to spoil it. I will say the Patron is revealed, and Curtis has some family time and starts to appreciate flying.....well, not really, but a little. There is a case to solve along with various side quests, but this one seems different. A good different, but still different. Each character has a moment or two of growth, and it's profound to us readers, even though it doesn't seem that way to the character. This seems like a crucial novel in many ways. As always, it was great to read, and I'm waiting for the next with baited breath. Highly recommended book, series, and world.
After being captured by the patron at the end of book 3, Tessa returns to her house with no memory of the time since her father died. She’s back to her “zombie” like state where Virgil can do no wrong, Ollie is flighty, Gisele is old, and there is no Curtis or Julien. With help from Jury and a lot of pain, she finally recovers her memory. After writing a report saying she was doing a job for Abigail Jury, she actually ends up doing a job for her. This includes a flight to Philadelphia with Curtis who is terrified of planes. Quite a reversal of attitudes. This book has action, mystery – both the patrons ID and Abigails job, suspense, surprises, and humour. It is a quick, easy, fun, entertaining read. The path Tessa is on is not an easy one even though the book is easy to read. It definitely has some dark moments. Again the ending leaves me wanting to start the next book immediately.
I was unexpectedly impressed with this series. We are told that Tessa, the youngest Graves, is our protagonist; during the first couple of books, I was unconvinced. I suppose this was written to allow for a "growth arc" which screams "coming of age" (yuck) to me....but it wasn't. Rather than the young, strong (theoretically) heroine with a couple of older relative sidekicks/comic relief/moral support characters, what we have here is really a wonderful ensemble cast. Every one adds equally to the story. It is really well-done. At a 5-book story arc, it was just long enough to really come to care about the characters, but not so long as to feel artificially dragged out. I cared enough about the MC that I did not really want to read the last book because it was clear something awful was coming, and I was not going to like it. Thank heavens the author believes in happy endings.
Tessa and her fight with the patron hits an intense turn. Jury can only help so much, but releasing her from his own counter measures seems to allow her the ability to fight. Totally wiped out and near starvation, it takes time for Tess to recuperate. Her struggle is not in vain. All around her discover how important they are to Tess and how important they stand strong as one. Thru trials and tribulations will Tessa be able to remember more? Will she find the patron? This is the BEST Graves book yet! A true page turner with twists you cannot predict. Thank you Ms. Crumley for bringing a fantastic book to read!
M.M. Crumley is an amazing author, I am captivated from the first chapter and am forced to continue to the conclusion of the book, I am so glad that I am reading the series now that they are completed, so I do not have to wait for the next installment. I guess this is more about the author than the actually story, but at this point in the series, I would be giving away so many secrets that have yet to be learned. I do enjoy her use of Grandma/Giesel's writings to throw in some other forms of writing and how the addiction to her story hour has become a household craving. Go now and read another wonderful book by M.M. Crumley
I really love this series but I really wish I waited until all five books were out so that I wouldn’t have to wait between installments. It is killing me! It’s the same with her Doc Holliday series. what an amazing writer what amazing characters what unbelievably amazing dialogue I could go on, but I’m out of superlatives
As a devoted Docoholic, I loved this story. Tess can finally identify the mysterious patron. Gisele should have her own series just so I can hear more of her saucy books! Ollie and Curtis make a lovely couple, oh.. Magnus. What an interesting character he is.
I have wanted the story to move a little quicker with less wallowing. This story does so. The interactions of all the characters are priceless. Having Doc, Jury and Mrs. Jury makes appearances makes the tale even stronger.
The best installment yet. Watching the characters evolve and all the plot twists and adventure just gets better. M.M. Crumley has built a,world i do not want to leave anyti.e soon.
A companion set for the Doc Holliday series. This series is just too much fun, especially for the ladies as we are not portrayed as simpering idiots but the bad-asses we actually are.
Ok, much progress has been made and the story is moving like a rocket ship through space! Great characters…I could with less reading from Gisele but I get it…
This is one of the best urban fantasy series I've ever read, and I read a lot of urban fantasy. Can't wait for the next book to come out! This was sooooo good!!
It’s not often that, for me, a series continually merits five stars. The writing is very visual, it’s like you’re part of the story. Thoroughly enjoyed this one and am continuing with the series.
