I feel like 'I see' is in at least every other sentence. If your gonna have the main character just see everyone else doing stuff and explaining their actions, rather than doing actions herself, why write it in first person?

Character's stop literally mid battle to give profound quotes to each other.

It contradicts itself, both plot wise and world building wise, it's infuriating. I literally rolled my eyes so hard one time I gave myself a headache, another time I slapped my forehead so hard I hurt both my hand and my head, just because of all the whiplash contradictions.

Pros-
The art is good
Action sequences are good and easy to follow, which is good since there are a lot.
Concept is good

I love Wylah, and was looking forward to sharing her next adventure with the kids, but this book felt less polished than the others. It's a long string of action sequences as Wylah rescues first her people, and then three new tribes from the Dragon Kingdom.

It just felt like one of those awkward in between books, where most of what took place was setting up the next book. I would have liked for Wylah to actually get to know the people of the newly introduced tribes, but she's with each only for a setup scene, a battle scene and then the "sorry, your princess is in another castle" scene.

The creative team clearly had fun making the mixed up chimeras that are the megabeasts, but again, each scene was just "see weird animal, smash weird animal" with the battle tactics changing depending on limb arrangement. No idea why they are fighting, they don't seem to have control crystals like the dragons do, they just want to smash.

There's a great Dreamtime scene with Wylah's grandmother, and Wylah is changing as she grows into her role as the Koorie Warrior. She's more thoughtful and less impulsive and getting better at thinking before jumping into battle.

In summary, a little disappointing, but we can't wait for the next book.

Wylah is now the Koorie Warrior and she’s determined to free her family and friends from the Dragon Army’s camp. Meanwhile, Tiller, Livingstone and Captain Frye are working on the duality machine, cooking up some alchemical evil.

As the Koorie Warrior, Wylah has great responsibilities. We are introduced to more people that need her help, some friendlier than others, and some new baddies who will be doing their best to thwart her efforts.

There are a lot of new megabeasts to meet as well, including scorpions, spiders and penguins.

This book is jam-packed with action, which young readers will enjoy. My favourite scene, though, was when Wylah was in the Dreamtime with Grandma. I love Grandma.
‘Times of great trouble are coming, Wylah. Many battles will be fought and a war must be won and you need to be ready.’
As with the books before it, this one ends in a cliffhanger. The Dragon Army are not done being dastardly yet.

Thank you so much to Albert Street Books, an imprint of Allen & Unwin, for the opportunity to read this book.

Goulds Fills #3
Wylah #3
More action aplenty as our indigenous hero rises to the occasion once again.
It's all pretty silly really, but most heroic tales like this are, and I guess having the hero be indigenous is something novel.
