She’s a single mom who’s over the fairy tale, thank you very much. Ellie Sanders doesn’t need a man for anything, except maybe marketing tips. Good thing Tyler Hendrix isn’t looking for love and marriage either. The Navy helped Ty put his lousy childhood behind him. He’s happy running First Impressions’ video firm and helping Ellie build her business. Problem is, Ellie’s business involves adult toys. Yeah, that kind. Which means Ty can’t stop picturing her in his bed. That’s the only reason he wants her this badly, right? Or maybe it’s their minefield of sexy wardrobe malfunctions and plumbing mishaps. Or the adorably awkward dates giving Ty sweet glimpses of what fatherhood could be like. Turns out Ellie has the coolest five-year-old on the planet, but Henry complicates things. Ty’s wired to be a fling, not a father. His own deadbeat dad saw to that. And Ty’s determined not to be like his jailbird old man. But what if Ellie and Henry are the magic key that unlocks Ty’s heart for good?

Juice, goldfish crackers, and a stash of porn… It’s what’s in every man’s briefcase.
This is where I make my exit. My nephew and I are going to go do man stuff like scratching ourselves and belching and watching Batman.
He’d had a spirited grandmother once upon a time. She’d taught him to skip rocks and spit off bridges and curse like a thesaurus-wielding sailor.
Ty had behaved like the consummate professional. He’d been respectful, composed, and dignified. She might have been grateful if it weren’t for the fact that she wanted to hump his leg like a feral poodle.
“You fixed my kitchen sink with a condom, bondage tape, and my son’s building blocks.” Ty nodded and wiped his hands down the front of his jeans. “Should we post it to the do-it-yourself page on Home Depot’s website?”
I told the babysitter I had a penis, and Uncle Jason said I needed to keep my pirate parts to myself.
My Review:
The Hook Up kept a gleeful smirk on my face for the duration and provided a fun read filled with clever and saucy humor and an adorable couple. I have savored each and every book in this cleverly written series and relished their unique and highly amusing meet cute introductions. Ms. Fenske excels at naughty euphemisms, crisp banter, and salty wit, and I can’t seem to get enough of her crafty wordplay. I giggle-snorted several times during this couple’s initial meeting, which involved a mistaken identity and confused subject matter. He believed they were discussing bowling products rather than her adult sales line of personal pleasure enhancing products; so when he used terms such as angle of entry, proper hole drilling, and ball cleaning, well, I may have barked aloud.
I have LOVED author Tawna Fenske’s First Impressions series and her latest release, The Hook Up, is quite possibly my favorite. Two people in very different places in their lives, with very different expectations about home, hearth, love and family find themselves undeniably attracted to one another in this funny, smart, sweet, and sensual story.
To say Tyler Hendrix and Ellie Sanders get off on a usual foot is putting it mildly, and they’d both so totally be snickering about my “get off” remark. Tyler works with Ellie’s sister in law and has agreed to give her some ideas on how to expand her business as well as renting out space for her parties and demonstrations, what Tyler isn’t aware of is Ellie’s business is Madam Butterfly, an adult toy company.
From the moment these two meet there is a spark even when they are clearly not discussing the same thing, but I loved that neither one got shy or stammered when they realized the mistake and more than that I enjoyed watching their interactions. Tyler has some big time hang-ups about long term relationships, love, family, and children stemming from a less than stellar childhood. Ellie is a single parent to a precocious and outspoken 5 year old who by the say is a total scene stealer. I enjoyed watching them going from friendship, to a “fling” to a relationship even with all their ups and downs because that is what real life is like. People develop feelings, they over think, they make mistakes, and they eventually either move on or figure it out.
I loved every step these two (well in all honesty three) took together, their candid conversations, the humor, the affection, the good times and the bad because it made for a delightful, sensual, and fun romance.
Boy oh boy did I love this book. I have not read a book by this author for a while and I forgot how much I adore her writing. She has a sense of humor that is so wickedly funny that it literally leaves you gasping for breath and you laugh your butt off.
I have not (ashamedly) read the previous 2 books in this series (a fact I will rectify soon) but it was easy to follow along, since they are all stand alone reads.
This book is about Ty and Ellie and of course Ellie's delightful little boy Henry. Ty and Ellie's first meeting is one of the funniest scenes I have ever read. Ty is part owner in First Impressions and he is a videographer. He is sitting at his studio waiting to chat to someone who wants advice on how to "promote" their line of bowling balls. Ellie sells sex toys for a living. Her sister in law has leased her space to run her parties in the studio where Ty is waiting. Ty thinks Ellie is there to talk about bowling balls. Ellie talks to Ty about some of the sex toys she sells. None of them have any idea what the other is on about. As I said hands down funniest thing I have ever read!!!!
Anyway there is immediate attraction between the two, but due to Ty's childhood where he had a dead beat dad, he is only interested in a hook up and not a long term relationship. Ellie deals with enough being a single mom, so a quick no strings hook up sounds just fine to her......until of course things get more complicated....
A quick, light and hilarious read that I HIGHLY recommend.....
Rating 4.5/5 What a giggle out loud story this proved to be right from the start! This is one of those books where you laugh till you have tears streaming down your face - well, I did, anyway! For example, imagine a handsome hunk giving you tips on how to market 'pleasure toys' . . . . whilst he's actually thinking he's giving you tips on how to market bowling balls!! I had to read excerpts out loud to my husband Get ready for some hilarious accidental sexual innuendos, misunderstandings and laughs from the very beginning and just keep on happening throughout this brilliant story!
The characters are well developed with sufficient angst and turmoil in their past to have a noticeable impact on their attitudes and behaviour in the present. There's also Ellie's son, the delightful Henry, what a sweetheart! If you're looking for a romance with characters who aren't looking for love but find it anyway, one where things don't go smoothly but keep you guessing (and laughing), then look no further - you'll hopefully love escaping into this romantic comedy as much as I did! When you've done that, I recommend you also seriously consider reading the first two books in this brilliant series - 'The Fix Up' and 'The Hang Up' as both are also great reads IMHO.
I requested and was lucky enough to receive a copy of this novel from the publishers via NetGalley. I chose to read and honestly review it.
WARNING: Do not start this book in public. Maybe especially not while on the elliptical at the gym, where – when you get to the funny bits (and you will get to the funny bits almost immediately) – you will have no control over the wheezy snorting noises that come flying out of the mouth that refuses to cooperate on anything but an enormous goofy grin. I’m just sayin’ – if you look like I do when I’m working out, this sort of reaction may cause people to dial 911 in order to save you when really, you’re just trying not to unleash your obnoxiously loud laughter on a room full of people taking fitness seriously.
There. Whew.
With that (very important) warning out of the way, please know that this book is a complete riot. Seriously, it was so much fun. I’m not exaggerating about that gym experience. I kept giggling and, um, daintily snorting - and that literally was in the first 10 minutes of the book. From the hilarity of Ellie & Ty’s meet-cute the story settled into a sort of adorable sweetness that I couldn’t get enough of. There were some ovary exploding moments, some kindle-singing heat and a few emotional bumps in the road. I adored everything about Ellie and Ty – and could not be more satisfied with how their story played out. I mean, sure, there was a moment where I wanted to knock some sense into Ty – but it was short lived and easily overcome and the fact that he did a number on my ovaries throughout this entire book was not for nothing. I loved it.
The Hookup was a super quick, super cute, and super fun. Tawna Fenske basically has the romcom genre nailed - and the result is one heck of a summer read! ~ Shelly, 4 Stars

You know you're in for a wicked treat when you nearly pee your pant and spit out your coffee within the first few pages of a book. To say I enjoyed The Hook Up would be an understatement. I loved it.
Ellie and Ty were both so fun. God, their hilarious meet-cute was one for the record books for laughter and misunderstandings. I loved their seemingly instant connection, even if they were both in a little bit of denial. I loved how their story unfolded and I really couldn't get enough of the both of them. Don't hesitate to put The Hook Up at the top of your vacation reading list-trust me, you'll kick yourself if you don't! ~ Missy, 4.5 stars
**Disclaimer: If you've been reading this series, and you should, then you'll recognize the heroine of this title, Ellie. She is the sister of Jason, the hero of book two, The Hang Up.
For Ellie, a single mom of a little boy, Henry, that's struggled with health issues, she's over the wanting a fairy tale stage, and has firmly planted herself in reality. In fact, she even has a successful business and it brings pleasure to all who try it. Yes, she sells sex toys, but my previous sentence still holds true. She can admit, at least to herself, that there are times she'd rather have the real thing, but so far that hasn't come true.
Tyler, former Navy and now videographer and part owner of First Impressions, has learned some hard lessons, one of them being that love, marriage, and family aren't for him. He had a rough childhood and though he's essentially moved on from it, it has helped shaped the man he's become. His position has held firm, without any chance of being breached, until she walks into his business.
Ellie needs to continue moving forward in her career, and to do so, she visits First Impressions, for help in promoting her items. Woah, did the man she's meeting make a heck of a first impression on her.
The attraction is immediate and intense, as is the agreement that this is a casual thing only. Neither want, or are looking for, anything permanent. However, things don't always go as planned, but sometimes they do go as they need to. The latter is the case for Tyler and Ellie. Their hook up is becoming so much more, and honestly, both aren't regretting it. But there are some things that may stand in the way of forever.
What happens when casual becomes anything but? Can Tyler accept a ready-made family? How quickly will Henry have Tyler falling for him as well? Can Ellie admit that Tyler is nothing like her ex? Will they both admit their feelings and take a chance at a HEA?
One-click now and follow along as two people, both wary due to past hurts, realize that some things are worth fighting for, namely love.
**I voluntarily read and reviewed an Advanced Reader Copy of this book.**
Have you ever found a book series that captures your attention in the first chapter? Tawna Fenske has done it again. Reading the first chapter, I laughed so much that it was difficult to put this book down.
Each character is relatable and beyond likable. As with all her books, from the first written word, the book is fast-paced and in constant forward motion. She does not waste her readers time with a lot of backstories to catch you up to speed.
I can go on and on why her stories have not disappointed me. Take a chance and find out for yourself.
This book is over the top fantastic! I really want to meet Tawna because I need to sit with her and see what makes her tick! Her sense of humor is over the top crazy and that made this book absolutely fabulous. Aside from the bowling ball scene, there were many downright crazed moments. What I loved so much was Ellie's comfort with her own body. Ty is trying to set her up with a different kind of mic that involved a bit of clothing rearrangement (another crazy moment) and she's completely at ease with him.
I loved Ellie and Ty both, and her son! He was a pisser in his own right. Ty was raised by his Grandmother until she passed away and Grandma was very creative with her curse words, which Ty picked up and of course when he let loose a string of these inane expletives you can't help but laugh. So nonsensical you want to memorize them for future use.
Tawna writes a strong female and I loved that about Ellie and how she handled herself as a business owner, Mom and then with Ty, a woman. One who had totally written off men after her experience with Henry's father who was a real jerk. She handled everything with such finesse no matter how she felt. Her brother and his wife, who was Ty's business partner were also great additions to the book. Ty was pretty hard on himself, having a rough childhood he pretty much wrote himself off. But Ellie brought something out in him that even he mostly felt good about. Mostly. When the rubber hits the road with these two Ellie handles it like a champ with Ty. Despite her inner turmoil, she never lets them see her sweat. You absolutely have to read this book to get the whole story. It's a smooth and fun read, with plenty of steam and a lot going on yet it flows perfectly. Add this to your TBR, it's a MUST read!!!
Tawna, you rocked this one in a huge way! I loved it!
**arc from NetGalley and Entangled in exchange for a fair review**
Omg their first meeting. I was laughing so hard,I am glad I was at home cos if I had been out and listening lol. Just listen and see, hilarious.
Ellie sells adults toys. Ty works in video marketing. She needs his help to build her business. They fancy each other at once. But she is a single mum, and he has some severe abandonment issues.
They were so cute together, and so meant to be. He did had his demons to overcome to make him realise that he was perfect as he was. And we all know that a hook up how much they want it to stay like that will lead to some major feelings. And they will live happily ever after.
This was book 3 so people had already found love in previous books, and those couples were around, but I did not feel like I had missed out. It worked great like this since it is meant to stand on its own.
Cute, and best first meeting ever.
Oh Amy was narrating! Been ages since I listened to her, I always enjoy her narrations. She is geat with voices and she does such a good job with romance
Ty is one smart cookie, “but I just used my only condom to fix your pipe,” he said. “So, unless you have a stash, we might need to call a halt to things for now.” Ty likes to make sure he has Ellie's thoughts made out, “but you think it’s rude to shove me out of the house before I have my pants on, and you’re also not sure about the etiquette involved in hookups.” I really liked this book, I loved Ty.
Had any woman ever made him this dizzy, this crazy with need? Hell, no. It was all her. Only her.
When I read the first book in the First Impressions series, I'd never read a Tawna Fenske book before. I devoured it, then actively began searching out her other titles. Since then, I've read several (and have more on my Kindle), and guys, I swear I love her more and more with each new one I open.
It's simple, really. Ms. Fenske writes the books *I* want to read. Books that are funny—hilariously so—and sexy, that have feeling and heat. Books that are addictive. The Hook Up was one such book.
You guys, It. Was. Adorable. Quite putting aside the fact that I was nearly crying with laughter within the first few pages (I will never think of ball cleaning the same way), this book was actually an incredibly sweet, charming read. I mean… HENRY. I adored him in The Hang Up, but here he was even cuter. Which, how is that even possible?! Pirate parts = me flailing somewhere between wanting to cry with laughter and wanting to wrap up the nearest kid in a big, smooshy hug. (You'll probably be pleased to know that I refrained, as the nearest kid at the time was not one of mine.)
There's something else you have to factor in, though. Henry on his own is adorable; Henry with Ty is... oof. Ty, sexy, smart, swoony, sinful, (insert any and all positive ‘s’ words here you want to; they're bound to fit him) Ty interacting with a six year old was basically FATAL to my ovaries. And to my heart.
But… did I melt, or did I explode? Actually is was both. Because in addition to Ty with Henry, there's also Ty with Ellie. Hol-ee Mol-ee. Ellie was Ty’s perfect match, and she's pretty perfect to boot. Strong, sassy but not bitchy, and immensely likable—the best kind of heroine. Their banter, their chemistry, their everything made me smile and laugh, and made my heart so damn happy. Ahhh, that meet-cute—from there, I couldn't help but devour them, and this book.
Much like I've devoured every other book I've read by Ms. Fenske, and am sure to devour the ones yet to come. Because not only does she make a great First Impression(s series), she leaves a lasting one, too.
P.S. The Goddamn egg-whacking piss-wizard swearing in this book is brilliant. I couldn't figure out how to work it into the review, so I'm adding it here because it needs to be recognized for being so bloody creative.
“I can’t tell if he’s interested in me.” “His hand on your boob and his tongue in your mouth weren’t an indication?”
OMG this was everything! Super sweet, silly, sexy……all the feels! Tawna has a knack for combining sweet & saucy, and oh the dialogue! The hilarious, often sexually laden, banter between Ellie and Ty is ah-mazing! Love that the characters go from strangers, to friends, to much more;) Such great character development, and love how she injects quirkiness throughout her books too! Ellie is such a strong confident lead, while Ty is more of an insecure guy who believes he’s fated to repeat mistakes just like his father. Watching Ty grow throughout the book was such a great treat! He HAS to man up for Ellie and her adorable little boy. Also, this story had great flow from start to finish! Highly recommend this book, and following this very talented author:) This is the third book in the First Impressions series, but can be read as a standalone. I was given a free ARC of this book from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.
Loved this book! It started as a fairly predictable romance between two characters that had no interest in a relationship, but ended up hooking up. Then the author added such depth to them with the back story and their current struggles that I just couldn't put the book down.
This novel has it all - lovable, relatable characters, and a great story. It had moments that made me smile and moments that brought a tear to my eye. If you enjoy the genre, snag this book and put it at the top of your TBR list. The author is on my must read authors' list.
We first encountered Ellie in The Hang Up as Jason's younger sister. Ellie hasn't had an easy time of things especially in her personal life, an ex who left when their son was very little and having to navigate life with a small child suffering from cancer. Ellie is a strong, independent woman taking charge of her life and forging a career for herself selling sex toys ;)
Ty is a new partner in First Impressions, tech guru and online marketing specialist. Miriam, Ellie's sister-in-law and another partner in the business, enlists Ty to give Ellie advice on expanding her online presence. A hilarious first encounter between Ellie and Ty ensues due to crossed wires in communication and double meaning when the conversation is misconstrued. The attraction between Ellie and Ty is sizzling from their first words, however, Ty has a number of emotional barriers that prevent him from pursuing Ellie.
Ty's upbringing did a number on his perception of himself where relationships and commitment are concerned. I really felt for him and his low opinion of himself in this regard especially as Ty's actions contradict his thoughts at every turn. His time in the foster care system only served to add to his abandonment issues, leading Ty to keep himself closed off in order to avoid further hurt.
The Hook Up examines aspects of nature versus nurture within the narrative, especially the idea that we are genetically predisposition to become our parents - the notion of learnt behaviour overshadowing our natural instincts or becoming or natural instinct whether we want it to or not. Reprogramming our thought patterns and in particular the way we view ourselves can be challenging.
Ty and Ellie's relationship is heart-warming and naturally occurring. While there are thought provoking elements within the narrative, the angst is kept to a minimum. The narrative has a sassy feel to it which maintains a light, fun feel to the story throughout.
Ellie Sanders is over the fairytale, thank you very much. Content with her booming career as a purveyor of Madame Butterfly pleasure aids, she doesn’t need a man for anything—except maybe marketing tips. And, okay, a few fun nights with something that doesn’t require batteries.
Love, marriage, and family aren’t in the cards for Tyler Hendrix. Period. The Navy helped Ty put his tumultuous childhood behind him, but when a sexy single mom walks through the First Impressions door looking to take her business to the next level, he feels his carefully constructed “never-get-attached” walls crack.
As Ty and Ellie maneuver through a minefield of wardrobe malfunctions, plumbing mishaps, and the world’s most awkward accidental dirty talk, discovering they have more in common than scorching sexual attraction threatens to crumble Ty’s walls for good.
••••••••••
REVIEW: 3.75 stars--THE HOOK UP is the third installment in Tawna Fenske’s contemporary, adult FIRST IMPRESSIONS erotic, romance series. This is online $ex toy entrepreneur and single parent Ellie Sanders, and videographer Tyler Hendrix’s story line. THE HOOK UP can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous books is revealed where necessary. Ellie is the sister of Jason Sanders, and Tyler is partnered with Miriam Ashley-Sanders (The Hang Up #2).
Told from dual third person perspectives (Ellie and Tyler) THE HOOK UP is a romantic comedy of errors wherein Tyler mistakes Ellie for someone else as he offers his assistance with her online company using a myriad of unintended sexual innuendo that jumps over the line pretty fast. From bowling balls to blue balls to condom covered water pipes Tyler’s introduction to Ellie Sanders finds our couple immediately attracted to one another but Tyler’s less than stellar upbringing and Ellie’s disaster of a first marriage finds our couple wanting a friends with benefits only relationship that turns into something more. But Tyler’s past refuses to go away affecting his emotional stability and his relationship with the woman he loves. What ensues is the building romance that falters when Tyler walks away from a potential future with Ellie Sanders. The $ex scenes are intimate, erotic and intense
THE HOOK UP is a fun read with a little bit of romance, sex, heartbreak and love. Jason and Miriam (The Hang Up) play secondary and supporting characters. We are introduced to Ellie’s son Henry, as well as Tyler’s sister Anna, and their father John. Several minor characters come and go throughout the story line.
THE HOOK UP is a sweet, sexy story of romance with a little bit of humor, fun and conflict. The premise is heartwarming; the characters are realistic and encouraging; the romance is passionate. THE HOOK UP is a spirited and spicy-perfect for a lazy summer afternoon on the beach.
I had to laugh once I started reading THE HOOK UP. Not only because it was funny. Holey-double-entendre Batman, it was funny. But because I felt as if I knew our plucky heroine, Ellie the sex-toy selling single mom. Really. Many, many moons ago, one of my employees was a young, blonde single mom with an adorable little boy. She too had a crummy marriage and an ex who didn’t participate in said kiddo’s life.
And she too hosted ladies pleasure aid parties.
Her soiree was the first of the kind I’d been too. Since I was her boss at her regular job, it was a smidge bit awkward. Okay, it was MASSIVELY AWKWARD–I sat next to her MOTHER. But informative. And fun. And this real-life person did indeed have a hook up, but I enjoyed Tawna’s story and hero far more than the real-life version.
So back to that. Ty is a videographer with commitment issues. One thing I like about him (and many of Tawna’s heroes) is that he’s not the typical alpha male. No obnoxious, overbearing testosterone-infused pushiness. Oh, trust me, he’s got testosterone flowing, but it’s pulsing inside a sizzling hot teddy bear. He makes you laugh. And did I mention he falls for the kid, too? Cuteness. Overload.
Ellie is independent, focused on building her business and raising her son and basically has her shiz together. (It’s refreshing to read a romance where neither character is in “need” of the other.) The only thing Ellie and Ty “need” is a hook up. Neither wants commitment, just a few itches scratched.
Of course, it doesn’t work out that way. The chemistry between these two is obvious to us the moment they have their first confusingly hysterical conversation. We know they’re going to work out, even if takes them a little longer.
I’ve read that some romance readers don’t go for the “single mom” storyline, as it’s not a part of their fantasy. (Romances are essentially women’s fantasies.) But I do. I’m a mom. Most of my friends are moms. Some are single again. They’ve been forced back into that complicated dating word and wonder if they will ever find love again. I want to see how these stories can play out. I want to see these women have their Happily Ever Afters.
At 226 pages, THE HOOK UP is just that: a sweet yet sexy and fully entertaining romp. But just like with Ellie and Ty, what starts as a short, no commitment fling will likely lead to something more, and you’ll fall for Tawna’s books, too.
I received a free ARC of THE HOOK UP. This review is totally unbiased. I would have bought the book anyway.
This book was such a fun, light hearted read and sexy to boot. The first chapter when Ty and Ellie meet is hilarious. It hooked me from the start. I absolutely loved these two together. When they weren’t setting the sheets and the couch on fire, they were getting into hilarious situations like the first chapter and their first sort of date. I will never forget Ty’s MacGyver like plumbing technique. Adding to the hilarity is Ellie’s six-year old son Henry. I freaking loved him and some of the things that came out of his mouth.
This book was so great from beginning to end. Every time I read a book by Tawna Fenske I remember how much I love her writing and wonder why I haven’t read more of her books. I really need to remedy that. This book was hilarious and sexy and everything I had hoped it would be. I definitely recommend this book and will re-read it in the future. Now I have to go read Miriam’s book since I somehow missed it.
This book is the third book in a series, but you do not have to read the first two books to enjoy this one.
Arc provided by the publisher via Netgalley for an honest review
After a very unusual meet-cute, Ty and Ellie are off to a wildly entertaining start! He offers her marketing tips in exchange for her doing commercial video voice-overs. Both have very different ideas about home and family, and are if different places in life. As they spend more and more time together, they find they actually have a lot in common! Attraction to one another is undeniable so they embark on a hook-up plan. I enjoyed the journey both of these characters took. Ty has major hang-ups about relationships and children. Ellie is a single mom raising a precocious child. It was interesting to see the transformations as they navigate a friends with benefits to a relationship. Even with a rollercoaster of a ride, it is either worth it or not. I am glad they were able to figure it out by talking it through. A fun romantic read!
4.5* read. My first read by this author this is a fun single mum romance read. What I loved the most about this book was it funny side, it had me laughing out loud in some of the most peculiar places which ended up with me getting a few funny looks. I loved the lighthearted feel of the book, although it does deal with some series subjects, its mixed in with the humour side of it aswell which gave it that light feeling whilst also dealing with some major things. Ellie and Ty are a great pair who you instanly feel there connection to each other. Their playful banter and red hot chemistry was a great mix and i really invested in their story and journey. I can't wait to read more from this author.
This book hooked me from that very first conversation about bawling balls that cracked me up and had to read it right to the end! Even this is the third instalment of the series it is first book ever from Tawna Fenske and I have no idea how did that happen! She jumped right on my list of writers that I have to read. It is one very likable book with great characters and story that will make you laugh out loud right from the start... it was definitely case with me. I totally enjoyed from the first chapter until the end and just because I don't like to spoil someone's reading experience I will just say...it made my day and I can't wait to find the authors other books to read them right away!
Tyler Hendrix is setting up his new office in his new video adventure. One of his business partners asks him to help give some business advice to her sister-in-law. He agrees and sets it up via email. Ellie Sanders goes to Ty's office early, which she emailed him about, but something in his words to her makes her wonder if he ever got it. Tyler thinks he talking to his first appointment and goes through ways to help her business, what he doesn't know is she sells something completely different than he thinks. This book had laughs, awe moments, and I couldn't put it down from page one. This is a MUST READ!!!!
I absolutely loved this book! I was smiling almost the whole book. Several parts even had me laughing. The first meeting of Ty & Ellie was just hysterical and really started the book of on a great note. It was a great start to a fabulous book. Even though Ty & Ellie had issues in there past, childhood or divorces, I didn't feel like they brought the story to a sad level. They were able to move through those issues and the end of the story was just icing on the cake. Really wonderful epilogue. Couldn't have asked for a better ending.
Tawna Fenske never takes herself too seriously and it shines through in her sweetly written, sappy tales of love and spontaneity. Her adorable characters and humorous scenarios are entertaining but they also are relayed from the heart and a person would have to be made of ice not to find the appeal in that. No, romance does not always consist of starry eyes and sad goodbyes but The Hook Up balances the good and the bad into a welcome surprise.
Received an ARC for my fair review for netgalley. This is such a cute book! I loved Ellie and Ty. They both wanted something simple, he never wanted to have a relationship with a mother, so he tried to avoid his attraction to Ellie, but he just couldn't. Ellie had such a disastrous divorce that she never wanted a real relationship past a fling again. Things have away of changing. Henry was super cute.
This book falls into two separate parts. We have the beginning in which videographer Ty Hendrix meets sexy Ellie Sanders. She sells sex aids and has come to visit Ty for marketing tips. However, he thinks she is his appointment to talk about making videos for a bowling ball firm. After a series of sexy innuendos as they misunderstand the other, they become friends. There are some more silly mishaps until they finally get the benefits part of their friendship going.
The book then becomes the story of how Ty deals with dating a single mom. He has had all sorts of problems with commitment because he had such a crummy father who is now in jail. Ty thinks he’s fated to repeat his father’s mistakes and has to decide if he can overcome those problems for the sake of Ellie and her adorable six-year old son, Henry..
I thought that once the book got past the overly done meet cute, the book became much better. These are both likable characters and it was lovely to see how Ty’s natural goodness comes out as he relates to Henry. The sweetness of their growing relationship is what makes the book.
I was given a free ARC of this book from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.
What a wonderful read. I laughed, I teared up a bit...part of the makings of a good book. Ty meets Ellie when she meets with him to get some business advice, prior to using his conference room for a product party. He gets her confused with another customer which leads to some pretty fun laughs as he's talking bowling balls and she's think pleasure aids.
This story flowed nicely. Fenske has you rooting for Ty, no matter what he thinks of himself as a person. You have good character development - not just in the main characters of Ty, Ellie, and Henry but also their family and friends. You're not left wondering what happened to anyone or losing your place in the story.
This is the 3rd book in a series. I've not read the other two, but now I really want to!
Please note, that I did receive an advance reader's copy of this book in exchange for a review from NetGalley. And I'm glad it gets to be a positive one!
"Maybe something about whether you're a squeezer or a stroker and how that might impact your overall ball handling." Part of the miscommunication when one person is talking about bowling balls and one person is talking about sexual aids. Oops! I do love the way Tawna Fenske tells a tale! I love the humor in this book as much as I love the romance. Ellie & Ty are really a great couple to get to know. The story is fun, with moments of seriousness and a bit of hotness. Overall fun -a great summer read!!
