It's only in the expression of gratitude for the life we already have, we discover the life we've always wanted...a life we can take, give thanks for, and offer others. Come to feel and know the impossible right down in your you are wildly loved by God and showered with His gifts.
Ann Voskamp is a farmer's wife, the home-educating mama to a half-dozen exuberant kids, and author of One Thousand Gifts: A Dare to Live Fully Right Where You Are, a New York Times sixty-week bestseller.. Named by Christianity Today as one of fifty women most shaping culture and the church today, she's a global advocate for needy children with Compassion International, a loser of library books, a stirrer of soup, a loud laugher, a kid snuggler, a Jesus lover and honestly, a bit of a mess. It’s okay really. Grace is the most amazing of all. Her online journal, one of the top 10 most widely read Christian blogs online, is a relief of quiet vulnerability and an oasis of sacred, seeing God in the everyday ugly beautiful.
Combining a devotional with a gratitude journal is a genius idea, and Ann Voskamp was the perfect person to create one. Her writing is absolutely beautiful and always focused on pointing the reader back to God. I was encouraged that much of this book is aimed at finding the beauty even amid difficult circumstances, rather than trying to minimize difficulties. The devotionals in this book are raw and real and lovely, and the photographs illustrating them are beautiful. This would make a great gift or small group study!
Such a lovely devotional focusing on gratitude, with space to write three things you are grateful for daily. I found that my faith strengthened and my stress levels lessened as I read, leading to both joy and a sense of being incredibly blessed by God. Highly recommended!
This book has absolutely changed the way I see ordinary life! God really is in the little things, and if we can trust Him with our lives, we can give Him praise for the small things!
This book is beautiful. It is a wonderful journal to record all the things you are grateful for and it takes you through the whole year month by month.
LOVED this book oh so much! I kept up with writing my 3 daily gifts every day in 2025! What a neat keepsake I will always treasure. Choosing JOY every single day always.
Another great resource from Ann. This devotional and journal is awesome. A place to deepen your gratitude practices. I love how you can easily be reminded each month of the things you have named to be thankful for!
Gifts and Gratitudes is a gratitude journal combined with a devotional, written in the true style of Ann Voskamp. It holds 31 devotionals that focus on gratitudes, while having space to track gifts every day of the year. This is a wonderful idea, a different way of tracking gifts. What I think, though, is that I would have left out the photos of Ann Voskamp and her children as it’s a little weird to have those photos in a journal.
A moment each day to sit and journal my gratitude. My thanksgiving for the blessings that happen throughout my day, even in the valleys and troublesome moments. There is always something to be grateful for in our lives.
So often we dwell on the negative, rather than grasping and holding tight to the blessings we have in the midst of those tough moments.
@annvoskamp released GIFTS + GRATITUDES in October and it went on my possibilities for 2025 list. I decided to pick it up and step towards being more intention with my daily thanksgivings. I have SO MUCH to be thankful for in my life- I always want to be grateful for those moments.
Complaints are easy, right?
But what if we focused more on being thankful, daily, for even the smallest of things?
So, this journal has a small moment for each day, and a list of 3 blanks to identify something we are thankful for each and every day.
I’ve been carving time each evening to reflect on the day and my gratitude for these moments I chose to write down.
It is a work in progress, but I am looking forward to the evenings when I sit at my table and contemplate all of the moments I’ve been blessed with throughout the day. The quiet walks, the boisterous kids + friends moments, the good news, and the hugs, the warmth of our home, the moments that become smaller and smaller, a more intricate look at the nuances of my life.
I am thankful for the nudge to begin this quiet reflection at the end of each day. I look forward to continuing it, and looking back after a year of moments. I suspect I will treasure it long past the days of 2025.
Gifts and Gratitudes: A Year of One Thousand Gifts is a wonderful journal just released by Ann Voskamp that will lead us on a journey over the year of finding gratitude in our daily life whether we are having a good day, where gratitude comes easy or a difficult season of struggles where finding a small gratitude can shine a sliver of light into our trials. The journal contains 31 days of "short reflections on living an authentic practice of gratitude" consisting of scripture, a prayer and a daily theme on Grace for example, Praying Grace, Thinking Grace, and Bridge Grace. Pages are found at the end of each day where you can list 3 daily gifts of grace for that day of each month over the year. This journal is well bound and sturdy. It contains beautiful photos throughout the 31 reflections which are written in a style that easily flows from across the page and reach to the heart. I love this quote by Ann Voskamp which says, "God holds space for our heartache--and we get to hold space for His graces in the midst of our heartaches." I can't wait to start my search for daily gratitude.
Review of Gifts and Gratitudes: A Year of One Thousand Gifts (A Guided Journal)
Ann Voskamp offers scriptures, devotions, essays, prayers, and photography in this guided journal which asks readers to recognize, make note of, and give thanks for the many God-given gifts in their life. The journal pages allow readers to note what they are grateful for by day of the month with all 12 months listed for each day of the month. By doing this, you can easily revisit and reflect on your noted gifts from prior months. I really like this twist to ordinary gratitude lists!
The author's writing is so flowing, heartfelt, thought-provoking, and uplifting that I was sorry to reach the end of the book. My copy is heavily highlighted with phrases that resonated with me.
This is a beautiful book in every way and meant for Christians of any denomination. It would make a lovely gift for yourself or others. If I could give it more than 5 stars, I would!
My thanks to Thomas Nelson Publishers for allowing me to read a DRC of this book via NetGalley. All opinions expressed in this review are strictly my own and are freely given.
Beautiful book! I loved the aesthetics, the writing, and the space to add your own content. Ann Voskamp has a way of infusing grace and simplicity in all that she shares. This collection is meant to help you live out and capture your own experiences with recognizing and recording your own awareness of the gifts in your life. It truly is a journal written by you, with meaningful prompts woven throughout to guide you. Even if you have never read the book that inspired this. One Thousand Gifts, you can appreciate and utilize the journal. Each day of the year is an opportunity to recognize the good things in your life. The way that the chapters are broken out though are very helpful. There is a “chapter” for every day of the month that begins with a reflection and includes a verse and short prayer. There is space for you to write three gifts on that particular day. At the end of the year, you will have the privilege of looking back at all the gifts in your life. I received a copy from the publisher via NetGalley and all opinions expressed are solely my own, freely given.
This is a fantastic devotional that really helps you focus on grace and gratitude. It's set up as 31 devotions, all focused on a different kind of grace. After each devotion there is a two page spread with all twelve months, with three lines per month to allow you to record a specific gratitude for that day in that month. You start on January first, using the day one devotional, and go through all thirty one days, writing down one gratitude per day. Once you've completed it, you go back to the beginning and record your daily gratitude for each day in February, and then start over again for March....basically making this a three year devotional and journal, which is brilliant. Not to mention all of the gorgeous photography included are all pictures taken by Ann Voskamp. What's not to love? Highly recommend!!!! *I received a copy of this book from NetGalley. This review is my own opinion*
This! This is the most innovative way to track 1,000 gifts and gratitudes to date! It is a perpetual day tracker, where you list three things you’re grateful for each day of the month, and then you go back to the beginning and start over for the next month. I also love that I am able to review what I was thankful for on that day from the previous month(s) as a reflection as well! Brilliant!
Each day has a short devotion, including corresponding scripture and invites you to reframe or shift perspective or simply to view your life in new ways.
I am a month and a half in already and have listed 130+ gratitude thoughts already!
I love that I will have 1,000 gifts written, lived and captured in a beautiful book to keep with my journals forever.
Ann Voskamp has a wonderful way with words and this Gifts & Gratitudes guided journal was lovely. This would make a great gift for the christian woman in your life. The prompts to list 3 things a day you are grateful for are perfect for promoting a more grateful heart.. Sometimes being grateful for the blessings in your life is easier said than done, and this journal will help you regain your perspective if you find yourself focusing on the negative aspects of your life. I really enjoyed this book and would highly recommend it to others! Thank you Ann Voskamp and Netgalley for the opportunity to arc read this prayer journal.
I appreciate everything about this book. It is written in a unique format where for each day there is a thoughtful devotion with beautiful illustrations, images of Ann’s farm, select scripture verses, and then a place to write your three gratitude’s for the day. After you progressively work through the 30 or 31 days you then start again and see your annotations from the prior months. This allows us to reflect on past blessings as we note our current blessings of the day. Ingenious! Love it!
As I expected, the paper and production are of highest quality. This is a purchase you will not regret.
A big thank you to NetGalley and Thomas Nelson Publishing/ Zondervan Gift for an advanced read copy of this beautiful devotional and journal.
Ann Voskamp emphasizes the important role gratitude plays in drawing us to the heart of God and changing our daily perspective in order to focus on His goodness. I love that this devotional and journal provided practical examples of gratitude grounded in scriptural truths. Each day's reading was challenging and encouraged me to grow in a different element of gratitude.
I would highly recommend this book to those who need to cultivate the practice of gratitude in their hearts and lives!
I was so excited to receive this book. I preordered it. It is a great companion to "One Thousand Gifts" ,but it is a stand alone book. It works on a 31 day format. You can read the daily text, view the gorgeous photo for that day, then add 3 things that are gifts or what you are grateful for. Work thorough the book every day for a month or when you can. It works for both. What a great way to review a year of gifts! You will not be disappointed.
*** This is hard to write the review as read because it is a daily journal***
Love, love, love. I started this book in January and the entries, though short, are powerful and rich with Biblical truths. The gorgeous photos and use of accompanying scripture with the entries is deep food for thought. Listing 3 "gratitudes" daily has been a game-changer for my naturally "Negative Nelly" self. This book is so wonderful! I highly recommend it. I have bought many copies and given them as gifts, also.
I’m so excited for this book. I love Ann’s book, One Thousand Gifts. Based on mental health studies, a single act of thoughtful gratitude produces an immediate 10% increase in happiness, and a 35% reduction in depressive symptoms. Imagine the joy we’ll receive by having daily thoughtful gratitude.
Sometimes just being grateful for God, what He has done and is doing for us makes a huge difference in our lives. This is a very insightful prayer book.
I received an advanced reader’s copy from Thomas Nelson and Netgalley. Opinions are my own.
Beautiful journaling book. This is just the book for anyone wishing to deepen their journey and get closer to Jesus. You can be brand new at journaling or an experienced writer. So blessed to have this beautiful book.
Taking time everyday to thank God is what develops a grateful heart. This book was written so that you have a space to record the gifts you are thankful for, so you can spend time in God’s presence and be reminded of His goodness for your life! A must have for daily devotions!
Taking Ann's challenge to daily look for and count gifts is life changing! This is a great way to track daily gifts and then look back each month look back and remember again. The gifts seem to compound which then transforms your mind and heart.
I love the format of this gratitude journal that enables you to see what you wrote on that date for each of the months. I so often forget the ways God shows up and this format will help me remember.
The way this book is structured, I am on my third pass through. The daily invitation into authentic gratitude is both thoughtful and accessible. It is consistently giving me a fresh lens to walk through daily life with a heart and mind of gratitude, a lens that is also bringing peace alongside it.
Such a beautiful year-long journal for writing my daily gratitudes. I’m counting it now because I’ve read the whole book, but the beauty of this book is- I get to read it again 11 more times as I fill in 1000 gifts I’m thankful for ❤️
A wonderful reminder that all good things come from God. Naming them daily and thanking God for them is beneficial both spiritually and emotionally. This book is a great way to do it.
Perfect tool to remind me of all the things in my life to be thankful for!! Joy abounds with a thankful heart!! Thank you Ann Voskamp for this special book!!
Love the cover and size of this journal. Enjoying the wisdom and writings to ponder as I gather a list of the many things there are to be grateful for.
