Best Black Carbon yet! Reviewed in the United States on February 13, 2025 The Edge is the 7th, and best yet, installment in AJ Scudiere's eponymous Black Carbon series and cements her in my top 5 authors of all time. Set in Colorado The Edge features the intrepid Mazur Twins, Cage and Joule, as well as Sarah and several returning secondary characters from previous books. The Edge throws everything nature, and in certain instances, man, could throw at them. The writing is superb, even the secondary characters well developed. The dialog is excellent, including Joule's creative and amusing expletives. Seriously, nothing about this book could be better executed. I waited a long time for this book, since The Night, and the wait was well worth it! 5/5 stars, recommended for anyone who enjoys adventure and unpredictable thrillers!
The Mazur twins, Cage and Joule, are still working for Helio Systems Tech to set up solar panel arrays. This time it’s in the mountains of Colorado. It’s springtime, but for some reason the snow isn’t ending. This is hampering their progress and also putting the team in danger. They also run across nefarious characters out there that don’t take kindly to strangers showing up. What follows is a whirlwind of struggles against nature and bad men that doesn’t let up keeping you on the edge of your seat and flipping pages to find out what happens next. Just don’t forget to breathe while you’re reading.
Joule and her brother Cage, along with a few familiar coworkers, are still working for Helio systems. This time they are in the mountains, working in unseasonably snowy weather. Though the snow isn't necessarily the problem, working in it alongside drug runners, dangerous wildlife, avalanches and snow shelfs that seem to drop out from under you is enough to make the Mazur twins question why they're staying on this job. Definitely a great, fast-paced read. AJ is never one to let the kiddos settle and she pushes Joule and Cage to their limits this time.

Joule and Cage are working on another project with Helio Systems Tech. They are in Colorado and looking for a place for a solar panel array deep in the mountains. As usual, wherever these two go, trouble soon follows. I am not going to tell you the plot. If you have loved the other books in the Black Carbon series, you will love this one. Joule and Cage are two of my favorite literary characters of all time. If you have not read the others in the series, read those first. This can stand alone but is best if you know the entire back story.
Wow, what an action packed story THE EDGE was. I couldn't believe how many miss adventures Joule and Cage had to endure. Everytime I thought the story was winding down, something else would happen. The ending was spectacular! All the loose ends tied up, and I'm waiting on the next Black Carbon adventure. Anyone who likes thrillers will not be disappointed in this outstanding book. It has Everything one could want.
The Edge by A. J. Scudiere is the seventh book in the Black Carbon series. Joule and Cage – the twins are working in the cold mountains with research team. They run into meth dealers and the action begins. The Night Hunters are in the story and both Joule and Cage know what to do. The book started with a build up to all the action – which made it more exciting. I really enjoyed the book, and think reading the other books made it a better experience for me.
7th book in the Black Carbon series, absolutely amazing read. Cage and Joule find themselves facing a familiar peril but the twists keep you guessing right to the very end. AJ Scudiere has a way of foretelling disasters so we should all be very afraid after finishing this read. Now waiting for book 8 so I know what’s coming our way next. Love this series.
Excellent installment in A.J.'s evolving world. Too much snow can definitely keep you on "the edge," especially when the monsters are hard to kill and not always animals.
This is a wonderful addition to this thrilling series! Wonderful well written plot and story line that had me engaged from the start. Love the well fleshed out characters and found them believable. Great suspense and action with wonderful world building that adds so much to the story. Such a thrilling read that I couldn't put it down. Can't wait to read more of these. Recommend reading.
I read a complimentary advance copy of the book; this is my voluntary and honest review
