There are three of us in this marriage. One of us has to go…
David and I used to be the golden couple that everyone wanted to be. But as I sit in the dark corner of a crowded bar and watch his arm wrap around the waist of his beautiful younger colleague, Nina, my worst nightmare is confirmed: my husband is having an affair.
I swear to do whatever it takes to save my marriage. But when David doesn’t come home one evening, I drown my sorrows. I wake up with a pounding headache, no memory of the night before, and no idea where David is. As I desperately try to piece the night together, my blood runs cold when I hear the news that something awful has happened to Nina.
I have to find out the truth about what happened last night, even if that means betraying my husband. Because David isn’t the only one with secrets in this marriage, and I’ll do anything to stop mine from being discovered.
An utterly addictive and twisty read about obsession that will have you racing to the end! If you love Lisa Jewell, The Girl on the Train and Behind Closed Doors, you won’t be able to put this down!
Lies, secrets, deceit, infidelity- this book has got it all! Holly Black has done a fantastic job delivering a suspenseful thriller with an ending we did not see coming! The Other Woman is a slow burn domestic drama that takes you on a wild ride at the end.
Kitty and David appear to be a happily married couple, but their marriage is far from perfect. They struggle with a failed pregnancy and unsuccessful IVF, and this brings difficulty into their marriage. Their relationship is not made any easier, with David being semi-famous. He is a journalist who covers the nitty-gritty shameful acts of many famous individuals. Although his top researcher, Nina Bello, is a huge help to him and his department, Kitty does not trust her. At least not around David. She suspects him to be cheating, however when she is discovered dead one day, both Kitty and David are certain they did not do it.
This is a book that is filled with twists, turns, and shocking revelations, however most don't seem to appear until other characters are introduced. It is a book you have to see through to the end, and I promise you, it will be worth it! When the other characters were slowly brought in, at first I was confused, but once I got it I was wowed! Completely jaw-dropped! Unfortunately, the majority of the book seems slow and predictable, but when characters begin confronting each other, that's when the real drama begins! This is a solid 4 star read for me, one with a fantastically shocking ending!
Thank you NetGalley, Bookouture, and Holly Down for this rollercoaster ride!
A married couple with secrets. Everyone thought they had it all, but David is seeing his colleague. Secrets can destroy any relationship, but what are they hiding? This story takes you on a wild journey.
Im giving this book 2.5⭐ because maybe it just me idk it was really hard to me in some way to read this book just when i got to the end it was a little better and i didn't really like the characters they were annoying in some way in my opinion maybe i will try this book again but the what i think 😅
This was a quick read with lots of twists and turns. This was my first book by this author. I did enjoy it. The big twist came earlier than normal, so I was very curious about where the rest of the story was going. There were a plethora of characters, and I not sure they all were necessary. There were many unreliable narrators. While I love unreliable narrators, I felt there were too many in this story. It made it seem disjointed with all the moving pieces in this one.
Thank you NetGalley and Bookouture for the ARC in exchange for my honest review.
This was definitely a whiplash of twists. I devoured this story in one session. I was glued from page one til the end. I was a bit confused with the characters but it didn't distract from the story. A definite recommend
Thanks to #NetGalley and #Bookouture for the book #TheOtherWoman by #HollyDown. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and all the twists and turns till the surprise ending. David and Kitty seem to have the perfect life, but do they really? David is a TV personality and thinks he is big stuff. Being faithful is not one of his priorities and this time has caused some problems. Can he talk his way out this time?
thanks to NetGalley and BookOuture for this ARC in exchange of an honest review!
This was a DNF for me.. I made it 30% in and absolutely nothing is happening.. the storyline is boring and the characters are extremely immature for my taste.
I was enjoying this physcological thriller until I got about halfway through. It then completely lost me, I didn't know who was who ? Who had become who?. Whilst others may enjoy this book, I didn't feel there was a flow to the storyline.and unfortunately, it wasn't for me
First of all, why haven’t more people heard of this book? It’s your traditional domestic popcorn read but with a whiplash twisty twist that had me question everything I thought I knew
The story is told via married couple David and Kitty, part of an Oxford University alumni friendship group. David is a famous TV journalist with a wandering eye and Kitty knows it!
This was such a quick read, mainly because I couldn’t put it down. Kitty was bananas and David was a lovable ass. I enjoyed the friendship group too, and would have liked even more scenes with them, maybe even some flashbacks. I’m a sucker for a friendship group (think Lisa Jewell, Nicci French) and always think it supports the plot and main characters
I don’t know if my reviews usually reflect other’s opinions, but the Goodreads reviews are predominantly wrong 😆 I found the pace fast, chapters short and this to be an easy, fun, twisty thriller that definitely deserves more readers eyes
I listened to this book via @borrowbox a UK library app, but perhaps @bookouture can add it to @libby.app for the rest of the world
I almost DNF’d this book at 30% because nothing had happened and any kind of plot was non-existent. I decided to stick it out and things did get better half way through. This book was driven by unreliable narrators. I need at least one character to be giving me some semblance of the truth. I was constantly being lied to and that’s not an enjoyable read. While I enjoyed some of the twists/reveals something was missing that left me unsatisfied at the end.
2.5 stars. I honestly don’t know why I’m rounding up. I’ve got a bourbon in me. I’m feeling generous
I received a free advanced copy of this ebook from NetGalley.
Really quick read psychological thriller with a lot of twists and shocks. Finished this in 2 sittings, perfect for holidays or a plane journey. One of those books where you're not sure who is the 'good' guy. Remember not all is what it seems, it's a long time since a book was able to throw me completely, but this one did. Thanks to Netgalley and the author for the ARC.
This book was more confusing than having twists and turns. The ending was very lame, though keeping with the confusion of the storyline. It sort of makes sense. But just not worth trying to cut through the confusion.
This was a fun and fast read, pretty standard UK domestic suspense novel.
David and Kitty are having a rough time. They’ve been struggling to get pregnant, and it’s taken a toll on their marriage and Kitty’s mental health. David’s career is at a tipping point, and he’s feeling a lot of pressure. So much so that with feeling neglected by his wife, he finds himself in the bed of another woman. How do they come back from that? And who’s really married to David?
The “twist” for this one comes pretty early in the book, which I definitely wasn’t expecting! It made the story more interesting because I kept wondering where we were going to go from there. How could it possibly get crazier? It was a fun, even if a touch predictable, ride through to the end.
I did finish the book wanting more, though. We had a lot of characters introduced that really didn’t have a reason to exist, and just appeared when convenient to the story before being immediately tossed aside not to be seen from again. The ending felt…off to me as well. Kitty just goes about her life as if nothing happened, which feels wrong. I did love Catherine’s arc from start to finish, and honestly wanted more of her!
Over all this was an enjoyable domestic suspense novel for fans of B.A. Paris and Ruth Ware!
Thank you Netgalley and Bookoutre for the opportunity to read this book ahead of publication!
‘David and Kitty used to be the golden couple that everyone wanted to be. But as Kitty sits in the dark corner of a crowded bar and watches his arm wrap around the waist of his beautiful younger colleague, Nina, her worst nightmare is confirmed: her husband is having an affair.’
Things I loved about this book: • The use of descriptive language, constantly creating detailed mental images. I could picture every single thing in each scene like I was there myself. • The author evokes emotions as you read each chapter, engaging all of your senses at once. • By chapter 2 I’d already fallen in love with the authors clever and witty writing style and will be adding every single one of her books to my TBR! • I felt so invested in every character, even the secondary characters that were only mentioned a few times. The author has the ability to make you feel like you have a rapport straight away with every single character. • Just when you think you know exactly how the story is going to unfold, the plot takes a twist and takes you down a completely different path!
Readers who enjoy unreliable narrators such as ‘Gone Girl’ and ‘The Woman in the Window’ will love this book!
A big thank you to NetGalley, Bookouture and the fabulous author Holly Down for this gifted ARC in return for an honest review.
I would like to thank @netgalley and Bookouture for this ARC.
3.75/5 ⭐️
This is a full circle story. How it begins is exactly how it ends. It was like watching a movie. If you’re familiar with the show set up of ‘How to get away with murder’ this is it.
The book is split into two parts, and there’s a switch of narrators. It’s a ‘who done it’ type of story, where we’re taken on a journey to find out what has happened and who is responsible for this horrendous crime.
After reading, I looked at the cover and then digested the actual story and I thought the whole idea was quite good. It’s not at all predictable. The supporting characters were supporting, we had an insight into these close friendships and more importantly the marriage dynamics.
I felt that the exclusive interview was much too long and it could’ve been cut down. I just didn’t care for Dick being interviewed after a while, so this part really dragged the story for me.Too much time was wasted on this area of the book.
I also started to root for a character towards the end. It would be a spoiler to reveal who I was rooting for, but their epilogue really had me laughing.
I would recommend this book if you want a quick crime story, love a few twists here and enjoy unhinged characters.
When the woman David is having an affair with is murdered, he becomes the prime suspect. With his wife missing, David evades the police. But can he find Kitty? And can he clear his name?
This was so good! I think I’ve got whiplash from all those twists! Loved the characters, particularly Matt (how cute was he?!). The storyline was engaging and page turning with so much drama.
Many thanks to NetGalley and Bookouture for my advanced copy.
David is a show host on a popular talk show. His wife Kitty is someone he loves dearly but she is struggling of late with all of the things going on in her life. David has a very successful night of his show, and things spiral from there.
I did find it a bit hard to follow the characters once the book hit part 2. I wasn’t sure who did what in part one and almost had to go back and reread part one to try to eliminate confusion
I found this an easy listen and enjoyed it. I thought it was going to be the usual “other woman” story but was pleasantly surprised with the different route this one took and it paid off. Would recommend if you’re looking for an easy read.
The Other Woman by Holly Down is a captivating psychological thriller that keeps you guessing until the very end. The story centers around a woman who begins to unravel disturbing secrets about her partner, leading to a web of lies and betrayal. With its well-crafted characters and unpredictable twists, the novel offers a tense, gripping experience that will appeal to fans of suspense and mystery. Holly Down skillfully explores themes of trust, deception, and the complexities of relationships, making this a compelling read from start to finish.
Aside from the twist at mid book that I did not see coming, this was a slow go. Not many clues along the way which could have pushed the plot along. The ending is just dumb. Sorry.
Thank you NetGalley and BookOuture for this ARC in exchange for my honest review!
This was a fun, pretty standard domestic thriller. Anyone who knows me knows that I love a good "my partner is missing/wait is my partner a murderer?" tropes in books, so when I read the description I knew it would be right up my alley. The first few chapters of the book started slow (not enough to make me give up), and thankfully the story sped up just before the halfway point and kept the pace pretty consistently until the end.
Also, the plot twist I wasn't expecting! I wish it didn't happen too early on - I love my twists brought in near the end of the read for the finishing shock factor. But, the twist allowed for lots of questions to linger as the story went on. The ending left me wanting more, though. Down introduced a lot of characters throughout the book (and I personally, didn't like a majority of them), and at points, I found myself confused and having to re-read certain points to make sure I had all my characters correct in my head. I would still recommend this read to anyone who likes domestic thrillers with a touch of crime.
The Other Woman by Holly Down Is a complicated domestic suspense with many layers and twists. The first part of the book was about everything and nothing and just around 45% of things started to pick up. There is a lot of going on and I struggle to follow some parts. Unfortunitelly I struggled to connect with the characters, they all blended together. I found myself confused at certain points so I needed to reread some parts. I felt that the main unexpected twist came in too early, at the same time, the ending shocked me!
The perfect couple Kitty and David had everything minus children. Unfortunitelly they both had secrets to hide. David is dedicated to his career and under daily pressure he finds himself in Nina's bed. When Kitty saw David in intimate poses with Nina her anger hit the roof... Was he angry enough to kiII Nina? But if not Kitty, who else has a motive?
This book is not just about Kitty and David's relationship, there are complicated storylines, friendships and relationships all the way through!
Thank you, NetGalley and Bookouture for this copy!
David and Kitty seemed to be having a happy married life--or so it seems until Kitty finds David in the arms of another woman, who happens to be his colleague, Nina. Kitty then start drinking and stalking Nina. Then one night, Nina was found murdered in her apartment. David was the last person to see Nina...or is it Kitty?
I like that the POVs are set in David and Kitty's characters. They are both unreliable characters and as a reader you don't know who to actually trust. However, even though the first part of the story was interesting, intriguing and a page turner, the second part of the story, to me, was a little confusing with the addition of another main character, Catherine. I felt that twist was a complete turn over from the actual story line. It also started to get little boring, confusing and above all, I thought it kind of ruined the whole plot line. The ending to me was a little unsatisfactory to me.
This could have been a good domestic thriller but the ending was unsatisfying. Worth 3 stars.
Many thanks to Netgalley and Bookouture for the ARC. The review is based on my honest opinion only.
This was my first book by this author and I have to admire the way she confused me from the beginning. I thought I had it all crystal clear in my mind, but boy oh boy was I wrong.
A bit later I had another shocking AHA moment or so I thought and yes, wrong again.
This story is filled with such moments and each time I though now I know, I had to realise the author had me by the nose once more.
Lying and cheating seems the to go to method for some of the characters, some realising their mistake and regretting having hurt someone. Others just simply continuing as there was not a cloud in the sky.
Sometimes people can hold a grudge for a very long time, whilst pretending to be the best version of themselves. Unfortunately one day they will run out of luck.
When everything seems ok at the outside, does this mean everything is ok on the inside too???
I enjoyed reading this book , being taken on a journey full of confusion until I reached a place filled with bright lights when everything was being revealed. 5 stars
Thank you to Netgalley, Bookouture and Holly Down for letting me have ARC of this book.
What sets The Other Woman constantly kept me guessing. Just when I thought I had everything figured out, there was another curveball. The pacing is brisk, the writing crisp, and the plot twists are genuinely unexpected, keeping you hooked until the very last page.
While the characters are well-developed and relatable, it's the psychological depth that truly shines in this novel. Down delves into the complexities of human nature, exploring themes of jealousy, obsession, and the lengths people will go to protect their secrets.
Overall, The Other Woman is a gripping and immersive read that will appeal to fans of psychological thrillers. With its unpredictable plot and compelling characters, it's sure to keep readers up late into the night, eagerly turning pages to uncover the truth. Holly Down has crafted a must-read thriller that will linger in the minds of readers long after they've finished the final chapter.
David Okine, star of his own TV interview show, is having an affair with his researcher Nina Bello. His wife Kitty is sure this is true…so sure that she has followed him to a bar, seen what she believes is flirtation, and decided that she will do anything to avoid divorce. Their best friends, Tom and Annie and Caro and Ed, sense tension. They allude to McCrazy, as they refer to her, a stalker who believed she was married to David. Then David skewers Dick Bell, a disgraced Member of Parliament, ratings for the show are off the charts and there is a wild after party. This leads to murder, stalking and a disappearance.
There is, of course, much much more in this complex, impossible to put down mystery. No spoilers here but remember that nothing, nothing at all is what it seems. Holly Down is a gifted writer and I can’t wait to read her next thriller. 5 stars.
Thank you to NetGalley, Bookouture and Holly down for this ARC.
