Red Flags & Tuesdays
Waking up to his one-night stand trying to flee the scene, Reid sits back to enjoy the show. This blond boy is all snark and quick-wit, but there’s an awkward side to him that intrigues Reid enough to want to con him into a second date. If I took a shot every time we are reminded Atticus is a weirdo or is weird, I’d be completely blacked out, probably on the way to the emergency room, and most likely wouldn’t make it out alive.
This wasn’t even toxic, and that’s coming from ME. I was expecting some dark romance with actual red flags and a toxic mess. Instead I got a cute romance with two college guys who felt like any other book couple. There’s possessiveness, obsessiveness, and jealousy. Or there’s how Reid can’t take no for an answer and wasn’t gonna stop till Atticus told him yes to going out. Or how Atticus is also clingy and but pushes Reid away at the same time. So yeah, their so called “red flags” and “toxicity” were so unoriginal and pretty common in this genre. We know it isn’t right in real life but in books, it works. It’s toxic and they’re red flags…because they are, but it was…cute. Really, I don’t know how to explain it. Romance readers will understand. When I’m told toxic and red flags, I expect actual red flags. Crimson red. Morally black. Concerned toxicity. Not…this. Also, constantly reminding your readers that the relationship between your characters is toxic and that there’s so many red flags isn’t really gonna help. The least you could do is show that it’s what you’re claiming it to be. But making it cute and showing all these ‘signs’ that are the norm for other “non dark” romance stories (even though you’re trying to show they aren’t) isn’t gonna help.
There wasn’t any drama, there wasn’t any push and pull, there wasn’t any angst. It was all fairly cute, resulting in a boring relationship development, primarily because the relationship developed quite quickly, in the beginning, with a few more developments as the story progressed.
I’m failing to understand the hype and love for this. It wasn’t that unique to other romances, and the characters didn’t feel like unique characters. We’re most likely supposed to feel bad for both young men, but I found Reid boring and Atticus annoying. The words weird/weirdly/weirdo are mentioned more than 50 times and 50 times too fucking many. Atticus gave off “pick me” vibes, reminding me of Jug from Riverdale, with his whole “I’m weird. You don’t want me because I’m a weirdo. Look at me, I’m weird.” And it makes sense considering the author literally wrote part of her dedication to Jughead Jones, which I didn’t know till after finishing this book. Instead of Atticus coming off as unique or funny, he came off as annoying and cringe. Not just with his whole weird dilema, but how he interacted with Reid. Their dynamics felt so off, absolutely nothing natural. As for Reid, I liked him at first, with his “will not take no for an answer” attitude. I also liked that he acknowledged who he was and what he had. He didn’t feel like a pompous asshole and acknowledged his character, but it was still boring. There wasn’t anything about him that made him stand out.
Speaking of dedication, the authors dedication says this: to those of us with weird love languages
to being unique
to Jughead Jones for saying, “I’m weird. I’m a weirdo.”
to the black sheep
the odd balls
to neurodiversity
to the misfits and the misunderstood
cheers to our differences! It might be that Atticus is neurodivergent, specifically, and probably, autistic. However, there’s never a mention of this. It all instead comes off as stereotypical, as if the author wants to associate weirdness with autism, despite her good intentions with the word. It wouldn’t be an issue if Atticus gave us a bigger picture of who he is, or what he may have, but I don’t think the author ever shows this, let alone tells us anything. It’s too bad, really, because she had the opportunity.
The relationship lacked tension, mostly because it happened early on in the story that there wasn’t that much room for angst and some push and pull. Even though they weren’t official, as in labels and being boyfriends, their attraction to each other was evident from the start. It took away from the potential tension needed in the middle of the story, driven from their own complications of their feelings. But that lack is exactly what made the relationship boring instead of full of tension. While there were some cute scenes in between if I say so myself, they didn’t really help add to it. I felt like the two were lacking that chemistry. Instead, it felt like the author was forcing her way, with her writing, to make us feel a certain way for them. The two even have a conversation about the difference between chemistry and tensions, as if the author wants us to agree.
Not to mention, the philosophical discussions were so bizarre. Atticus being a philosophy major meant we are witnesses to some boring discussions. He felt like a middle aged man pondering on his regrets in his teen life, even though he was only 20.
Overall, not a fan. It didn’t give what it was supposed to give.

I’m sure there has never been a character like Atticus. And I’m positive there are not many love interests like Reid who would put in the work (damn, so much work!) and devotion to secure The One.

When I put my crazy on Atticus’ contradictive behavior, statements and changing rules are just so relatable. *lmaooo And although my hubby is an absolute great guy he could learn a thing or two here from Reid. 🫶
I laugh, liking him this early in the morning. Tame people are boring, and this guy is all fueled up and charged up, but he doesn’t know where to aim his crazy. Right at me, baby. I can take it.

Absolutely loved this book and I did not want to put it down 😍😍
I can't even explain just how much I love Reid, and his relationship with Atticus.... So good! I also really enjoyed the way the whole book is from Reid's POV, but the epilogue is from Atticus.
I laughed and cried and my heart hurt, especially that bit with Sports Douche. The way Reid cares for Atticus when he's having a really difficult time 🥹🥹🥹🥹🥹
Also, Reid's definition of love was absolutely EVERYTHING!!!! If I wasn't already infatuated with his character by that point, I sure as shit would have been after 🥰🥰🥰
If you're a fan of Mercer from Little Demon, you will love Atticus and his brat energy too.
Can't wait for the next book in this series.

Reid Crue is your classic rich kid.
At least that's what it looks like from the outside.
And then… one night changes everything.
Atticus St. James.
The blonde introvert with glasses.
And the boy Reid cannot get out of his head.
And he doesn't want to.
So even if he has to chase… He will do everything to have Atticus.
Because one night just isn't enough.
"Then you told me you're weird, and now I wanna know how weird."
I received an advanced reader's copy in exchange for an honest review.
"Just give me something. Give me a chance. Tell me what the fuck it is you want."
Nordika Night has this special way of writing that just makes every world she creates absolutely amazing I have no words for it. Her characters are on a whole other lever. It's beautiful to read I swear.
I loved this book because it has highs and lows to the plot and it takes you and makes you so invested it’s amazing.
"We're opponents, but we're playing two different games. Guess we'll have to figure out what dictates winning."
Reid Crue is supposed to inherit his dad's empire. As a business major, he needs to know how to be able to run the company. That's his life plan. Or at least his dad's. Atticus St, James walks in and messes all of it up in the best of ways and now Reid cannot get Atticus out of his head.
"You make me insane. I feel half delusional, but I know this is reality."
Reid is the rich boy where everyone sees something from the outside but it is a whole other thing on the inside. The relationship with his dad and especially his mom was incredible to read about. I swear I am still trying to process it. The way he is literally running through red flags but he does not care. I mean personally the funeral was just wow as an ask but I was like "yes!! Stick it through!!"
"I'm more than chasing now. I'm fucking hunting."
Atticus is more of a mystery. Mostly because of how the book is built and I think that is such an amazing experience to have. Especially us as a reader, we are going along with Reid's journey and it is fascinating to see. Atticus is Jughead Jones in my mind and I cannot and will not disconnect the two I am sorry but it fits so well. And shoutout to the blonde nerdy guys with glasses in fictional books because here we have an amazing rep for one thank you very much!

This was one hell of a ride, and I was all here for it 🥰
Kati was right in her review: this is a 10/10. And yes, there has never been a character like Atticus. And trust me, I’ve read my share of (mm) romances. And this is made even more interesting by the fact that we only get Reid’s pov - only the epilogue is written from Atticus’ perspective.
The book starts at a very unusual point: Reid watches Atticus trying to sneak out of his room after a drunken hookup. And decides to more or less bully him into getting to know him better.
Bulling isn’t the right term: Reid is determined, yes. As determined to get through to Atticus as Atticus is to keep him at arm’s length. Reid is light to Atticus’ darkness, sunshine to his gloomy moon, and it… works.
I don’t even want to go into details. There’s so much I loved about this book. You definitely need to suspend your disbelief for some things, but I got sucked in completely, and I just didn’t care. It’s romantic, fucked-up, toxic (but in a good way), possessive, bright, there’s life, there’s death, it’s hot and tender at the same time, and while there are a few difficult tropes, they both deal with, it’s handled… idk. In a realistic, but positive way? You’ll know what I mean when you read it.

Utterly bewildering to me that this is written by the same author as my beloved Garron Park duet.
This… was not it. I read the whole thing sort of out of spite. It’s just… not very good.
What was the point of it? What was the plot? The characterisation? The storyline? I don’t even really know. Two people being sort of difficult I guess?
It tried very hard to be quirky and weird and thought provoking. The emphasis here is on *tried very hard*
Every time these two talked about their chosen realities and their own personal manifestation of hell they gave me the ick. It was giving ✨I googled philosophy but don’t actually know anything about it so am just using buzzwords✨ tbh.
I know the whole premise is about them both swimming in red flags but Atticus is just too self absorbed to be charming. Reid I liked more but still meh.

The use of “little boy” as a term during sex is not for me, personally. I don’t mind some age related kinks here and there but that term just doesn’t do it for me. You know what takes “little boy” from ‘not for me’ to ‘absolutely fucking not’ tho? When it’s what HIS DAD CALLED HIM AS HE CSA’D HIM. There are even scenes where Atticus talks about his dad CSAing him, then Reid calls him “little boy” 2 seconds later.
I know Atticus says it’s fine and that’s great for him but for me? As the reader? VERY UNCOMFORTABLE. Very very icky and not sexy.
Let’s talk about the subplot for a second. What was with Reid’s family situation? His dad? The criminal enterprise? His MOTHER? An absolute clusterfuck that made no sense. We are led up the garden path for absolutely no reason. Then it’s explained away and resolved in the most meaningless way ever. “Oh ha ha I wrote this to make you think it was going to be a trial in their relationship development but PSYCH it’s not and it actually means nothing so I might as well have not included it at all ha ha” 😐😐😐
There were parts of this storyline about Reid’s mother where it felt like a lot of anti-abortion propaganda which was gross. Lots of “thank god my dad advocated for me before I was born” when talking about FORCING HIS WIFE TO CARRY A CHILD TO TERM AGAINST HER WILL. And then using that and her mental illness to paint her as a villain? And then getting sick of her and putting her in an institution alone?!?! Be fucking serious. From a woman author? So gross. This is almost enough to turn me off future Nordika work tbh. Absolutely fucking tone deaf, esp considering the landscape of women’s reproductive rights in America. Yuck.
Then this book has the audacity to just end. Nothing happens. It’s just over. The epilogue gives a bit of closure but the plot? Not really plotting.
So, yeah. Anyway. That was a waste of 10 hours.

I know that this is a polarising book and people either love it or hate it and those books ALWAYS incite my curiosity. Unfortunately this one wasn't a win for me so if you loved this please just turn away 😂😂
Did you know that Atticus was weird? Well in case you missed it, this book told us 57 times, which for a 303 page book is once every 5 pages....I wonder if NN realises that there are other ways to let a reader know that a character has baggage?? Honestly everything in this book was like being beaten over the head with a stick, not only was EVERYTHING explicitly told and not shown, but told repeatedly in case you missed it when it was explained the first three times.
Look, there is nothing fundamentally wrong with this book and I can kind of appreciate why the people who love it would, but this was just not a good book for me. I enjoyed Reid enough and he was pretty inoffensive, however, he didn't stray very far from the mould of 'morally grey love interest who is morally grey because we are told so and not because he actually does anything morally grey'. Atticus though I found completely insufferable and I really struggled to understand why Reid liked him so much (other than the book telling us how much Reid liked him).
I dont mean to yuk anyone's yum but if I had realised that this had kind of a bit of a DD/LB lite element to it I probably wouldn't have picked it up because that is very much not my kink. Honestly the whole "little boy" storyline that feautured here really made me deeply uncomfortable. I appreciate the author was probably trying to approach this as a 'reclaiming' of power through the reclaiming of the name and the trust Atticus demands from the relationship but when it's coupled so regularly with bringing up how little and hairless Atticus was I was just unable to escape my ick.
Also I'm not even going to BEGIN on how little sense Reid's family story made and how pointless Reid's whole backstory was and how misogynistic the treatment of his mother's character felt.
I have nothing against spice heavy books and have enjoyed plenty of them, but I need them to have a little more substance to the plot and characters to be able to carry all the sex in them, and this didn't have that for me. I feel like I maybe need to just recognise that NN is not an author that works for me.
The saving grace however, is that I thought Zane Daniels did a great job narrating this and that it was probably the main thing that got me through this book 😂.
Honestly Alex's Review does a better job summarizing all the things I struggled with here and feels like she plucked them straight from my head.

Reid’s love declaration was the most incredible romantic, toxic, adorable, freaky, weird one ever!
I struggled a bit with Atticus' moods, sometimes they were borderline rude... I also thought that the justification for Ried's father acting like this for so many years was not quite justified.
Nordika manages to write the most out-of-the-box MCs and people that you normally wouldn't be able to like, but you end up loving them madly.

Somehow I missed the hype for this when it was first released, but man do I get it now. This book grabbed hold of me right from the beginning and didn't let go. I was HOOKED 🤩🤩🤩
I haven't ever read another couple quite like Reid and Atticus. The entire story was refreshing because nothing was predictable or went exactly like I expected. Unconventional is the word I would use to describe a lot of what went down. From the way the book started, to the characterizations of both Reid and Atticus, to the course of their relationship and the revelations about Reid's family. I was never able to guess what was coming next, and I loved that! 💙
Often in romance, the characters and plot are mixed up flavors of the same basic story. I'm not saying that's necessarily a bad thing because it's nice to have predictability in tropes and MCs when you're looking for something to read. Plus, every story and character can't be a new and unique archetype, and I wouldn't expect that either. I guess what I'm trying to say is that occasionally it's nice to have something like this come along and truly SURPRISE me 🫶🏻 Reid and Atticus were special and unforgettable and will be sticking with me for a long time 🥹
Beyond the story itself, the audiobook took this to another level. Zane Daniels is sheer perfection - full stop 😌 When I say he brought Reid and Atticus to life, I mean he brought them to LIFE. I enjoyed this mostly unorthodox, quirky, and decidedly weird romance. The obsessively determined Reid is amazing as the pursuer of loner and reluctant Atticus. The dynamic between these two is hilarious as they both try to outsmart one another and give each other endless riddles to outsmart one another. Together they have amazing chemistry and watching Reid slowly unravel all of Atticus's defenses is such a sweet and beautiful progression throughout this story.
Reid is patient, extroverted, and the perfect opposite of Atticus's timid demeanor. Together they bring out the best in one another. Both have troubling backstories and seeing how both Reid and Atticus are supportive and helpful with one another's emotional baggage made for such a strong emotional pull in their story.
Overall this is an enjoyable, quirky, and at times unhinged romance. I loved how I never really anticipated where their story was going. I was pleasantly surprised throughout and loved how these two found one another, even if their initial meeting was incredibly random and spur of the moment.

This was really funny and clever! This book Covered heavy themes with really great humor. It was wonderful to see Atticus take back that power and control his past had over him and the endearment terms! REID you made me swoon so many times. Some parts felt a little OTT with Reid’s Dad, BUT the banter and cleverness made up for it. Atticus is the brattiest of brats and I loved him so much and just wanted to protect him. Great mental health representation!

4.5 stars. I think what I enjoyed most about this book was that it subverted alot of the usual romance tropes and canons. Stay with me here...
This story cleverly unpacks a whole heap of ideas about what romance, attraction, and dating should look like by presenting its red flags from the outset.
Starting with a one night stand where one MC, Atticus makes it very clear he doesn't want anything to do with the other, Reid afterwards and so presents a bunch of red flags as a way to push Reid away and to serve as a warning, but also perhaps as a test? 🧐🤔 not only does Atticus present them to Reid, he IS a walking red flag!
So often in relationships we go in blinded by lust and unrealistic hopes, ignoring the red flags only to face disappointment and problems later down the track (well at least I have!)
Here Atticus and Reid start off with the good, the bad and ugly and navigate and accept one another as is. Atticus does so unapologetically but also because of his fear of being hurt and his mistrust issues. Reid who has a reputation for being a spoiled and shallow playboy rises to Atticus' challenge with sincerity and commitment.
From the outside, here are two people who would not be considered relationship material and look like a disaster waiting to happen but make it work by laying it all out there and building a foundation of understanding and acceptance for one another.

I don’t think I’ve ever related to a character more than I relate to Atticus. Maybe it’s that our particular brands of neurospicy are the same or maybe it’s just his vibe. I don’t know but I love him. He doesn’t mean a single thing he says and is a walking red flag but those don’t exist here. 😭

GUYS THIS WAS SUCH A FUN READ!! there was great quotes and delicious character development and FINGER LICKING SMUT (i had to fan myself during some scenes 🫣)
atticus 🫶🫶 HES SO BABY. genuinely he’s so fun, like i wanna be his friend but i feel like he would judge and hate me 😭 he’s so silly and goofy and has the funnest rules and things that irk him. i love how emotional att is, it’s such a contradiction from the bratty and like stoic front he puts up, the way he just goes to funerals to make himself cry (i kinda relate to that bc i have a fascination with grief and death but that’s not important rn) i just adore this boy with glasses and blonde hair
REID, MY BOY. ur the biggest simp in the world, literally u had no reason to stalk this man u had a one night stand with, but the way u we’re just like HOOKED ON HIM. reid is so caring abt att and the way he just tries his hardest to get him even tho atty pushes him away…A LOT. im in loveee with how reid doesn’t judge att he’s just trying to understand him and like be with him thru what he feels. Did I stay up just so I can finish this book? YES.
I wasn't sure what to expect when first starting but from the begginning i was shocked on how much I automatically loved it. Maybe I'm biased cause I just absolutely love Nordika's writing, she never misses for me I don't care. Fight ya mama, not me.
The single POV was a shock, I'm not use to it but I felt as if it worked really well when it came to seeing Atticus through Reid's eyes. I love Atticus's bratty attitude (I love brats) & Reid's willingness when it came to him. When Reid took care of Atticus through his depression? I mean my heart could of have burst.
I've said it before about not loving insta love but dang, lately it's been working really well for me and I am not mad at it. My only complaint has to be the length of the book, I wish it was a tad bit longer.
The epiloge?? I mean come on 🤤

I mostly really liked this. It was a fun low angst read, dealt with a few heavy topics but did it in a light & low angsty kind of way- which I know isn't everyone's cup of tea but I enjoyed. I loved all their funny banter and just the way they spoke to each other with all of Atticus's funny rules & their philosophy questions.
The plot with Reid's dad was resolved kind of quickly and I hated that part of the conclusion was

This was so weird, truly funny, wildly passionate, devastatingly sad and completely unique!!
I could not put this down. It was a totally mindfuck at times but so worth it. I even cried and that shocked me! I wasn’t expecting this to be deeply emotional but it was - and for like the whole book!!
Reid and Atticus must be protected at all costs. I shattered at two parts - when Reid had his feelings hurt and Atticus’s depressive episode. These boys broke my heart! I love them so much!!

Reid is 22. He's a rich kid with a bad relationship with his parents. His mother is barely there, she's got a lot of mental issues and substance abuse issues, she's barely cognizant. His father is a successful businessman but he got there with money laundering and dirty deals. Especially early on in the book He's portrayed as a villain though you see he isn't quite as bad later on. His Dad f****** his girlfriend a while back didn't help their relationship. Reid makes social appearances for his father's business reluctantly from time to time. He's interested in his father's business but doesn't like him as a person.
Atticus is 20 and he is a grumpy black cat character that pushes everyone away from him, he won't let anyone get close. He's been hurt in the past. His dad abused him as a child sexually and Atticus got him sent to prison, his mom sided with the dad and that blew up any chance of relationship with his mom. He has a close relationship with his aunt and cousin though, those are the only people in his circle. He is a very prickly guy, he's small in stature and it's a self-defense mechanism of his to protect himself.
The book starts with them waking up after a one night stand and Atticus is trying to creep away. Reid is absolutely fascinated by Atticus. Reid I've never been with a guy before but something about Atticus just drew him in. He's admired men before so it wasn't completely out of nowhere. But he fell fast and hard for Atticus and he doggedly pursued him. Within 2 weeks, Reid was definitely thinking of the L word. Atticus wanted to nut and run, but Reid keeps inserting himself into Atticus's life. Atticus is a romantic at heart and he feels things deeply. Atticus wants to test the strength of Reid's feelings, because Reid has a fuckboy reputation and he doesn't want to make himself vulnerable. Atticus creates distance, is bratty, bickers with Reid, makes him work for it and try to romance him, while at the same time pulling him closer. There's an intense chemistry between them and they have a comfort they find in each other.
I really enjoyed this book. It was five stars for me. I have such a weakness for this type of dynamic between characters. I really love a prickly character and someone that is a bit unhinged in the intensity of their love/feelings. Also while I love a steamy read, which this one definitely was, I also love when an author works in non-sexual touching in a meaningful way. And this book had that.
My thoughts as I read this book:
- I love how from the very first moment Reid was absolutely obsessed with Atticus. And I love it when a character can't stop himself from eye fucking his love interest, and I love when that love interest is a prickly little s*** and the one who is obsessed knows it and is just more attracted. It's such a fun dynamic.
- I'm so weak for a character watching their love interest sleep and just being fascinated. Reid did that their first hookup.
- I know red flag and Tuesdays are in the title of the book and they're trying to make a point by mentioning it, but this is a little overkill cheesy that they keep mentioning red flags and Tuesdays over and over. I get it! Be more subtle.
- My heart hurt for Reid when he saw what he thought was Atticus flirting with another guy.
- I hesitate to call this book instalove though I know some readers would. I think Reid was smart enough to know that at first it really was just insta infatuation. It turning into love did happen very quickly for Reid but it was believable, because Reid really got to know Atticus in that short time and there was a lot for him to love about Atticus. Atticus was everything he wanted and triggered all these emotions in him. To me this book wasn't the kind of insta-love that annoys the crap out of me. Because I totally believed Reid loved Atticus, he had lots of reasons to love him.
- I think the author did a good job handling Atticus's mental health struggles, it was good representation in my head. Even Reid's mother's mental health issues were handled with some grace.
- if you're a person who really liked the NikoBran relationship in God of Fury by Rina Kent, this book is definitely not a copy paste and it's not quite as epic and emotional a ride as God of Fury was, but there's definitely similarities in the kind of relationship that Reid and Atticus have. They both feature an unhinged fuckboy doggedly pursuing a reluctant, prickly, damaged character. And there is an intense hurt/comfort relationship. People that enjoyed that book would enjoy this one.
Some notable moments:
I love a good hug. A clutch them tight because you need that comfort so bad, a weakness of mine. "He stays silent, back to my chest, my arms around his neck, my chin resting on the top of his head, watching the taillights of the procession fade. When the last one blinks out of sight, he sighs, turns around in my arms, and hugs me. Oh, holy fuck. I hold him so tight my muscles strain. I’ve never hugged him before, and feeling his body pressed against mine, seeking comfort I don’t know how to offer, his hot face pressed to my chest, my eyes get wet. I’m not crying, but it’s evidence that I can."
Um, awkward, so this next quote was said in the context of masturbatory habits. But take away the masturbation stuff, and it's just very relatable to me as far as what types of relationships I like reading. Honestly, the more athletically physical and kinky the sex is the more you lose my attention! "“Movies with chemistry and tension. Reid is 22. He's a rich kid with a bad relationship with his parents. His mother is barely there, she's got a lot of mental issues and substance abuse issues, she's barely cognizant. His father is a successful businessman but he got there with money laundering and dirty deals. Especially early on in the book He's portrayed as a villain though you see he isn't quite as bad later on. His Dad f****** his girlfriend a while back didn't help their relationship. Reid makes social appearances for his father's business reluctantly from time to time. He's interested in his father's business but doesn't like him as a person.
Atticus is 20 and he is a grumpy black cat character that pushes everyone away from him, he won't let anyone get close. He's been hurt in the past. His dad abused him as a child sexually and Atticus got him sent to prison, his mom sided with the dad and that blew up any chance of relationship with his mom. He has a close relationship with his aunt and cousin though, those are the only people in his circle. He is a very prickly guy, he's small in stature and it's a self-defense mechanism of his to protect himself.
The book starts with them waking up after a one night stand and Atticus is trying to creep away. Reid is absolutely fascinated by Atticus. Reid I've never been with a guy before but something about Atticus just drew him in. He's admired men before so it wasn't completely out of nowhere. But he fell fast and hard for Atticus and he doggedly pursued him. Within 2 weeks, Reid was definitely thinking of the L word. Atticus wanted to nut and run, but Reid keeps inserting himself into Atticus's life. Atticus is a romantic at heart and he feels things deeply. Atticus wants to test the strength of Reid's feelings, because Reid has a fuckboy reputation and he doesn't want to make himself vulnerable. Atticus creates distance, is bratty, bickers with Reid, makes him work for it and try to romance him, while at the same time pulling him closer. There's an intense chemistry between them and they have a comfort they find in each other.
I really enjoyed this book. It was five stars for me. I have such a weakness for this type of dynamic between characters. I really love a prickly character and someone that is a bit unhinged in the intensity of their love/feelings. Also while I love a steamy read, which this one definitely was, I also love when an author works in non-sexual touching in a meaningful way. And this book had that.
My thoughts as I read this book:
- I love how from the very first moment Reid was absolutely obsessed with Atticus. And I love it when a character can't stop himself from eye fucking his love interest, and I love when that love interest is a prickly little s*** and the one who is obsessed knows it and is just more attracted. It's such a fun dynamic.
- I'm so weak for a character watching their love interest sleep and just being fascinated. Reid did that their first hookup.
- I know red flag and Tuesdays are in the title of the book and they're trying to make a point by mentioning it, but this is a little overkill cheesy that they keep mentioning red flags and Tuesdays over and over. I get it! Be more subtle.
- My heart hurt for Reid when he saw what he thought was Atticus flirting with another guy.
- I hesitate to call this book instalove though I know some readers would. I think Reid was smart enough to know that at first it really was just insta infatuation. It turning into love did happen very quickly for Reid but it was believable, because Reid really got to know Atticus in that short time and there was a lot for him to love about Atticus. Atticus was everything he wanted and triggered all these emotions in him. To me this book wasn't the kind of insta-love that annoys the crap out of me. Because I totally believed Reid loved Atticus, he had lots of reasons to love him.
- I think the author did a good job handling Atticus's mental health struggles, it was good representation in my head. Even Reid's mother's mental health issues were handled with some grace.
- if you're a person who really liked the NikoBran relationship in God of Fury by Rina Kent, this book is definitely not a copy paste and it's not quite as epic and emotional a ride as God of Fury was, but there's definitely similarities in the kind of relationship that Reid and Atticus have. They both feature an unhinged fuckboy doggedly pursuing a reluctant, prickly, damaged character. And there is an intense hurt/comfort relationship. People that enjoyed that book would enjoy this one.
Some notable moments:
I love a good hug. A clutch them tight because you need that comfort so bad, a weakness of mine. "He stays silent, back to my chest, my arms around his neck, my chin resting on the top of his head, watching the taillights of the procession fade. When the last one blinks out of sight, he sighs, turns around in my arms, and hugs me. Oh, holy fuck. I hold him so tight my muscles strain. I’ve never hugged him before, and feeling his body pressed against mine, seeking comfort I don’t know how to offer, his hot face pressed to my chest, my eyes get wet. I’m not crying, but it’s evidence that I can."
Um, awkward, so this next quote was said in the context of masturbatory habits. But take away the masturbation stuff, and it's just very relatable to me as far as what types of relationships I like reading. Honestly, the more athletically physical and kinky the sex is the more you lose my attention! "“Movies with chemistry and tension. Red Flags & Tuesdays by Nordika Night is book one of the Weekday Weirdos series. This book follows Reid and Atticus on their journey of finding themselves and falling in toxicity(according to Atticus). I’m not debating with a philosophy major. If you asked Reid, well they’d be falling into a tangle of chemistry, tension and infatuation.
Atticus’s snark and spunky attitude spoke to me, I love the brat in him. He carries himself with so much confidence, appeal and knows his worth. He protects his own heart and looks for everyone’s big red button, so he can run them off before they learn his form of weird.
Reid is Mr. Popular, his family has money and everyone knows it. He is tried of being under his dad’s thumb. Reid and some of his house mates run a fight club, that he sometimes participates in.
Reid and Atticus meet at a banquet, where they get locked in a coat closet together. With only tequila and each other to accompany them. This is Reid’s first time with another guy.
Reid’s dedication to winning over Atticus was profound and one of my favorite parts of this book. He never gave up and I love when someone is that determined. Throughout Atticus attempts to run him off with his wit and brilliance, Reid stays strong and gives as good as he gets. The banter between these two was some of my favorite that’s I’ve read. Reid and Atticus don’t short change us on the emotional side either. They stand strong and supportive for the other. Reid totally won me over in Atticus’s moment of need. His dedication and willingness to help was such a beautiful show of love. Thank you for taking us on this road to healing with both of them.
Neither of these men are strangers to parental issues and both have some trauma/dark in there past. It was truly heartbreaking to read.
Make sure you read the trigger warnings for this one. Some really heavy topics but Nordika Night handled them gracefully and she did a beautiful job writing this story.

He’s something that’s soul-deep, stuck in my chest and infecting my bones. He’s Atticus St. James, and red flags or not, I don’t want to let him go.
Atticus St. James naïvely thought he could leave his anonymous one-night-stand with Reid Crue behind him, but oh how wrong he was. Reid is instantly infatuated with Atticus, and makes it his mission to learn his love language, whilst Atti persistently searches for the big red button that will drive Reid away. What ensues is an adorably weird romance, filled with snark, spice, and tender moments that had me clutching my chest.
I loved how obsessed Reid was with Atticus from the get-go. He turned in to a complete simp, but Atti really didn't go easy on him. The banter between them was top notch, and I really developed a soft spot for both of them. There were a few unexpectedly sad moments in the book which showcased the absolute devotion the characters had to each other, but the overall tone of the book is still light for the most part. Seeing Atti soften towards Reid in his own weird way was everything to me.
Nordika's writing is fantastic as always. She has a talent for writing multifaceted characters who are endearing no matter how bratty or stand-offish they may seem. Her books always have the perfect balance of humour and tenderness, and this one was no exception.
This book was a fantastic start to the Weekday Weirdo’s series, and I can’t wait to read more as they come!
