Fun poems and bright illustrations. Both my kids were delighted. They especially liked the poems that indicated they could be sung to popular children's music melodies.
I also appreciate the gender equity with both male and female cowboys throughout; although in today's more enlightened environment one poem seemed to miss the mark here. In the poem where a stagecoach driver is robbed by the lady cowboy, he falls in love at first sight. He then is upset that his declarations of love are not immediately accepted and returned. She is there to do her job, and he doesn't grasp that his attention is unwanted. We fully enjoyed the collection of poems and had a good discussion with the kids about this one issue.
This is just a silly book about all of your tall tale characters and many more. There are poems, songs and stories. This would be a good book to use for launching the folk tale, fairy tale, myth, legends and tall tales unit. Comparing and contrasting similarites and differences.
