I received a copy of this book from the author as part of his ARC team and I am leaving an unsolicited opinion of this book.

I found The Antikythera Code to be an entertaining and interesting book to read and enjoy the fact that it can be read as a standalone novel or as the finale to the first part of the Harry Fox series (as this is book eight). This book brings to light that Harry Fox is on his own - not under the direct control of the Italian mob (technically, though he does rely on his past relationship with Joey at the beginning and the end of the book for advice).

I found the development of the characters to be multi-dimensional. They are introduced through dialogue and through their actions with each other. There is good descriptive writing of the scenes as Fox travels throughout Europe in his quest for historical relics

The book starts with Harry Fox gaining entry into the castle in Europe as he begins his quest for the lost relics of Charlemagne when he is faced with a character from his past, who has come forth with an offer that he cannot refuse - a chance to find the true prize of a Roman legend (Spoiler: a chance to find the remains of Alexander the Great).

Harry must use the ancient mechanism to decipher a code hidden in the works of an ancient Greek scholar (Pliny the Elder). What he finds charts a path across the globe, one hidden for centuries. As he makes his way his way through his travels, he is faced with adversaries new and old (he is forced to face members of the Sicilian mob and Hamas).

The dialogue is distinctly characteristic of the age and role of the characters. There is a well-written ending and epilogue. Also, I appreciated that the author wrote an explanation at the end of the book that described what was factual about the archaeology and what was fictional about the story.

I would give this book a solid four stars out of five, as I enjoyed the archeological trip from the first Harry Fox novel to now. I believe that this book would be a solid favourite for those readers of archeological fiction (fans of Hollywood's Indiana Jones, Ernest Dempsey's Sean Wyatt, and Clive Cussler's Dirk Pitt stories).

As with all my literary ramblings, these are just my five cents worth.

As a history buff and interested in ancient history, this series is right up my alley.

Harry and his girlfriend Sara solve mysteries, find ancient artifacts and try and stay ahead of the bad guys while Harry is trying to seek revenge against someone who ruined his earlier life.

The Antikythera mechanism is the key to solving the clues and Harry finds himself in all kinds of situations trying to find the places where the solved code messages send him. I love Harry’s sense of humor and the author’s style of writing.

I found it hard to put this book down and became immersed in the story.

Even though each book in the series is its own story, you need to start at Book 1 as each book builds on the characters and their back story. You really get to know and love the main characters including the Italian mob boss and with other ones you wonder who Harry can trust and who is out to get him.

And as a bonus the author gives a detailed explanation at the end of the book showing the depth of his research and which information in the book is real and what is fiction. The story is woven around both.

I am part of the Advance Reading Team for Andrew Clawson and received an ARC copy of the book to read and correct in return for an honest review.

I can’t wait for the 9th book in the series to come out.

Trying to step back from his artifact acquisition days and become an antique store dealer, Harry still is following Agiluph’s trail to Charlemagne. Then Evgeny tells him about a scroll found in Pompeii and talks him into following it to the Antikythera device. Then thr trail shatters into a mess.

This storyline is just getting messier and getting nowhere. All Harry’s friends and family are wishy-washy. His mom and step-father are a hinderance, as is Nora. Even his relationship with Cara seems to be going nowhere, she’s just a resource. And Joey’s character has become superfluent. The plot itself is boringly complicated and the bad guys are confusing. Sorry, but I’ve tried but can’t convince myself to finish. The characters haven’t interested me enough to want to know what happens.

Fave scene: the elephant drawings.

The Antikythera Code is an adventure story that I highly recommend. It is an entertaining and also educational reading adventure. Andrew Clawson has a talent for writing action scenes and has put together an interesting and complex story. I was engaged in the story from the very first pages, and for the whole time that I was reading the book; I entered a new imaginary world.
The background information for this historical fiction book has been adequately researched and the author’s command of writing by using the historical knowledge is impressive. The characters are unique and complex, with good and bad aspects to their personalities and backgrounds.
There are numerous mysterious puzzles, codes, explorations, secret hidden places, and traps to navigate. And there is danger in both: 1. The navigation of the obstacles, and 2. The rivals who follow Harry Fox, the main character. Everywhere Harry goes, someone is following him. It’s a life and death chase to try to obtain the objects and knowledge that Harry has acquired. Harry navigates these previously mentioned challenges using his own wits and physical strength; he does suffer consequences for his risks, errors, and judgement; this makes him seem like a real person and not a stereotype. He also leads a complicated family life because he was born into a New York City mafia family. And he has a girl friend, a highly educated and talented Egyptologist; also many other interesting friends and associates who are part of the story.
Young adults who read at a high level and are interested in the topic could read the book, maybe even those as young as twelve because there is nothing inappropriate in the book.
I learned about ancient history and even what an Antikythera mechanism was because my curiosity was piqued by reading the story. The reading spurred me to look up some information about the settings and artifacts that were mentioned. One of the most fun parts of the book is at the end, when after reading the book, the author explains to the reader everything that is fact and fictional in the story; and also what is partially factual. That is when the reader comes to the realization as to how talented that knowledgeable the author is.
I look forward to reading more of his books. The book can be read as a stand-alone novel. It has a fully developed ending and an epilogue.
Some story Locations/Settings: [Germany; New York City: Manhattan, Brooklyn; Ireland; Italy: Bobbio (Bobbio Abbey), Milan; France: Lyon, Vienne (Temple of Augustus and Livia); Romania; Switzerland: Geneva, Zürich (Grössmunster Church), Limmat River; Greece: Antikythera Island, Thessoloniki is mentioned; Cyprus: Larnaca (Larnaca International Airport), Kyrenia Mountain Range, Saint Hilarion Castle; Bulgaria]
I received an ARC (Advanced Reader Copy) and I have submitted this voluntary and honest review of the book.

I Enjoyed This Book

And that's something I don't say very often. It was fun to see how the circle of Harry's new found family and friends mesh. The characters are developing interesting sub-plots. Harry is growing up and now has family responsibilities. It's no longer just about his adventures and his business/friendship with the Morello Family. He has other people in his life who depend upon him, and upon whom he also depends. He deserves to have them in his life.

During one of Harry's adventures, Harry makes a mistake that nearly costs him his life. It was such a glaring mistake that even I caught it! I wonder if that was intentional on the author's part, to draw the reader further into the adventure. If so, it worked.

I can't wait to read the next book.

Book 8 in the standalone epic adventure series featuring Harry Fox and his various escapades in searching for lost treasures was another fascinating story that I couldn't put down. I loved being drawn down into the pages, mingling with the characters, being a part of the thrilling action. If you're a fan of Indiana Jones and such, you'd love this author and his stories. I also really enjoyed the end of the book where the author where the author explained true facts in the story and those that were fiction.

Harry has found a relic and a clue to one of histories hidden secrets. Unfortunately he isn't the only one who wants to follow the clues. Blackmail and history make strange bedfellows but some with no morals are ready to snatch the artifacts and use history for their own gain.

Anyone who enjoys mystery mixed with historical events is going to enjoy these novels. This is part of a series but can easily be read as a standalone, though you may not have all the insight into some of the background..

The series gets better and better and I'm always ready to join in the next adventure.

This is an exciting adventure story that I could hardly bring myself to put down. Harry Fox has plenty of locations to visit, riddles to solve and dangers to overcome. I loved the history behind the story even though some was nothing more than the product of the author's fertile imagination. I'm looking forward to finding out where Harry and Sara go next. And what about those side stories surrounding ADA Gary Doyle and Joey Morello? All have ties to Harry but definitely have legs of their own.

Tension

This segment of the Harry Fox stories provides a great deal of tension as more characters and curves are thrown into the mix. There is one thing that does not register well with me, and it’s not just Mr. Clawson’s books, but it is how all these ancient traps seem to withstand time. I’m not sure I appreciate that and it begins to make the story predictable, which is not good. People, writers, can’t seem to escape the Indiana Jones model. Still, an entertaining read.

Received as ARC. Another great addition to the Harry Fox story. While Harry is searching for lost relics of Charlemagne, another challenge arises. With the usual cast of characters, new antagonists are discovered. Very enjoyable read.

All his books are very formulaic- but that doesn’t mean they’re not enjoyable! Personally, I love the history & fantasy combo & I’m not a fan of edge-of-my-seat so knowing he has a formula is a perfect read for me. I’ve really enjoyed all eight of the Harry Fox books!

The Harry Fox adventure series is definitely my brand of heroin!
You have everything you want and need for an action-packed edge of your seat ride.

The author Andrew Clawson, doesn't just take you on an adventure that you never want to end, he writes characters that you will root for but also characters that you want to help kick their ass!

In The Antikythera Code, Harry Fox finds himself travelling to Europe to find the lost relic of Charlemagne. But when someone turns up from his past, are they friend or foe?
What Harry discovers on his quest to find the relic, he unwittingly finds himself with a new adversary, one that could be his downfall.

Can Harry decipher all the codes and clues in time solve the Antikythera Code or has the bad guys finally won the battle?

Kudos to Andrew Clawson for making this such a high octane adventure.

Also Andrew has as in each of the previous books given some amazing research and details to the story and the end of the book.
