Mage of the Dragon Princes by Zarina Aston was so amazingly good. Since finishing it yesterday, I have not stopped thinking about Kitaro, Auslin, and the other characters. This book was long, but I was so invested that I could not put it down and it flew by so quickly.

Zarina, aka Ariella Zoelle, has given us a slow-burning engrossing fantasy. With all the world-building, I never felt bogged down by boring details. She did a great job of sharing relevant details of this new world without making it overwhelming. Kitaro and Vanra were so sweet and wonderful and even though i knew what was coming, it still broke my heart. This ends on a cliffhanger and usually I hate that, but I am looking forward to dwelling on these characters, events, and how the author is planning on bringing these two back together. I have read everything else that she has written about this world (the novella about Uncle Jaega and Fersen and the chapter of Kitaro’s reaction to Vanra disappearing). It all was amazing. I cannot recommend this book enough to those who enjoy paranormal fantasy.

Mage of the Dragon Prince is the first book in the Bonded Hearts series and ends on a cliffhanger. I would highly recommend reading the prequel novella, Enchanter of Dragons, beforehand as this world is very extensive.

First of all I love how versatile of an author Zarina Aston is. I’ve read her Ariella Zoelle books since her debut and loved the short, sweet and no angst books. However, this book definitely has angst and is 79 chapters long!

Despite it being so long, I didn’t grow bored, I was fully immersed in this story and this family.

This book follows Auslin (in the past he goes by Vanra) who travels back in time 600 years ago and meets Kitaro, a dragon prince. As they try to find a way to get Auslin back to his time, they start to fall for each other. But can they stay together or will Auslin be returned back to his time?

I loved the world building and found it very fascinating. I adored the royal family (who we saw in the prequel) except for one family member - you will know who they are when you read it.
All the ‘K’ names was a bit confusing/ overwhelming at first so going to the glossary and highlighting certain names might help, or reading the novella beforehand. Zarina Aston captured a true sense and feel of a fantasy kingdom which you can’t help but wish was real.

Auslin was likeable, kind and loyal. He is a very powerful mage but hasn’t had any formal training and there are a lot of questions about his heritage.
I wanted him and Kitaro to be happy and safe. There are a few things that I wished with Auslin’s character though, while I think his kindness is both admirable and makes him strong to be so forgiving, there were times I felt like he needed to stand up for himself. I am excited to see if that is part of his character growth in the next book.

I also liked Kitaro, he’s protective, caring, strong and patient.

I found it really interesting and enjoyable how we didn’t just see Kitaro and Auslin’s POVs. We also saw Jaega (Kitaro’s uncle and one MCs of the prequel), Fersin (Jaega’s mate), and Kisaro (Kitaro’s bookish brother).

I knew this was going to be a big, epic story and it was. I had this terrible knot of dread throughout the story knowing something awful was going to happen, causing me to keep reading and make sure the characters would be okay. There were times where I was very anxious and on edge of my seat. I have so many questions and theories!
Overall, I liked the Mage of the Dragon Prince and am very curious to see if the Consort of the Dragon King will answer the many questions left unanswered and see if my theories are correct!

This book contains sensitive content such as sexual harassment, attempted sexual assault (on page), mention of past sexual assault (not MCs), mention of cheating/ toxic relationship (not between MCs), mention of war, violence, death, attempted murder, mention of past parent and children’s death.

Wow ... this was a great read. I loved how the idea of time travel (not my favourite concept) worked in favour of the book and the storyline.

There was so much feeling there that it had me at the edge of my seat, and I couldn't put it away as I was always anxious about what happened next.
Theoretical it is quite clear in the beginning, how it will end... but the way there was fascinating.

There are also a few flaws, which are the reason why I can't decide if it is 4 or 5 stars

The characters are very black or white .... Essentially, after establishing a person in the story, there is not a lot of grey.

Another flaw was that although it is written from different points of view and with each chapter, we know which one we read, the writing was not always completely clear.

Nevertheless, this was a great read and I can't wait to read the next book

Mage of the Dragon Prince is the first book in the Bonded Hearts series. This is the story of Auslin(Vanra) a mage and Prince Kitaro a dragon shifter. This is a long angst filled story but it is so good. I couldn't put the book down once I started it because I just needed to see what was coming next. I loved how different Auslin(Vanra) was in personality to Kitaro because it just made them perfect for each other. Please be aware that the book ends on a cliffhanger. You should also read the trigger warnings as sexual harassment, attempted sexual assault (on page), mention of past sexual assault (not MCs), mention of cheating/ toxic relationship (not between MCs), mention of war, violence, death, attempted murder, mention of past parent and children’s death are mentioned. I loved the world building and character development in the story. I loved the supporting characters also. I can't wait to read the next book in the series. I would definitely recommend this book as a 5 star read.

Very surprised at all the good reviews honestly. It has a really good premise and potential but their is very little substance to the characters. It's really just the dragon prince following the mage around telling him how much better he deserves and is worth (he's known him less then a day) and blah blah blah. From the second we meet him he just follows the mage around like a lovesick puppy. He's a prince with no responsibilities and no personality. Just follows and blindly supports everything in an over the top unrealistic way. You could've given the main character a dog that could talk and it would accomplish the same thing.

This was more of 2* book for me. It was incredibly long for such a boring plot. There s no charm to these characters. Both MC s are formulatic, good people, there s no spark to them. Allowing Mitsuki to be heir when both Kitaro&the King new the guy was insane and cruel was ridiculous. What do u mean "we hope you ll become better when you have all the power" 😃Maybe it is the writing style that's the problem bc the story didn't flow for me. Felt like we went from 1 scene to another with no transition in between. I ll try the second book to see if it gets better.

I am ENTIRELY lost for words.

As a gay 20 y/o dude, it incredibly hard to find fantasy novels that depict gay characters and relationships in the same manner that straight relationships are. Most are usually unnecessarily smutty, clear fetish content or just straight up r*pe stories and those that avoid those topics completely are incredibly teeny and don't provide the intricate fantasy worlds, intertwined with romance that can reflect actual, real life, gay adult relationships.

Queer literature is still so oppressed even in today's day and age. If straight people are able to escape to a fantasy realm with a breathtaking romance, why can't gay people do the same? (This extends to all kinds of queer communities) Why is it so hard to find?

When I first ordered this book off amazon I was nervous and a little skeptical it would be like the earlier mentioned queer fantasy novels. But I couldn't be proven more wrong.

While there are many smutty scenes that are crucial to the plot, they are not the centre of the story. You can go many pages, even chapters without encountering a smutty experience. This not only makes it a more enticing story, but also allows for the romances to blossom outside of sex, which is such a refreshing thing to see in adult gay literature.

While there are mentions of sexual harassment and threat, it is done in a very skilful and respectful manner, that mirrors the reality of these kinds of things, bringing awareness to them as well as what they can do to a person and their mental health. However, these instances are fleeting, impactful, but fleeting and are not the foundations for romances unlike many other gay fantasy books.

Another thing I loved about Zarina's work is how they did not make it complex for no reason at all. Many fantasy books are inaccessible to people as they use a lot of advanced language and terminology and often read in a cryptic and formal manner, making them difficult to follow. While the writing is still mature and skilful, it is not done so in a way that makes it difficult for you to follow, immersing you even further into the realm of Talwyn. You do not feel as though you are reading a watt-pad fanfic, or a cheesy teen novel, but you are able to fully immerse yourself in your imagination without being interrupted by trying to read between the lines, or search the meaning of vocabulary better suited in a 1500s Philosophy transcript.

Another two ways Zarina makes their works accessible to all kinds of mature readers is by the formatting of the book. The chapters are not long dissertations of words, they are instead not chapters at all. The book splits content through switching between the perspectives of characters which not only helps you to navigate the story, but also makes you yearn for more with each turn of the page. I picked up this book at 2PM on a Thursday, and by 1:30AM on the Friday I had finished it, the book was barely closed. Lastly, Zarina's reassurance as an author made the book a whole lot more enjoyable. Being the first of the series of three (the second one I am close to finishing) you always worry that you will be constantly left on edge, so desperate to find the happy ending you are hoping for that you are not able to fully enjoy the plot and story. I am an extremely sensitive and anxious person myself, and although it may sound silly and stupid to some, Zarina's assurance at the start of each book that we will get the happy ending we all desire, and that they lead us down no false paths makes me able to relax, enjoy the story, as well as the suspense and angst. I have never enjoyed a book as I have enjoyed this one, never felt as if I am standing there with the characters. Not much can compare to the feeling of reading this book for the first time.

Moving on, the Craftsmanship of the book was to perfection. The plot was beautifully written, and the ending flawlessly executed. While there is a cliffhanger, you are satisfied with how the book has been tied off, how it leads into the next and how it rounds off everything it has discussed. The only negative thing I could pick up in the book was the repetitive use of certain phrases like the 'small of his back', 'his dragon rattled / paced in it's cage'. However, none of this was a dealbreaker for me, but I understand how it would irritate people a whole lot more, so I thought it might be worth mentioning.

Overall, I found this book truly beautiful. I could not put it down, and what I will say in this review, is the same is happening with its sequel. I enjoyed the plot, revelled in the story and immersed in the world of Talwyn, all while being able to enjoy romance stories that speak to me as a gay person who is not an awkward 13 year old exploring poorly written fanfics. I cannot recommend this book and series enough, and I am already at the edge if my seat waiting for the third book.

Thank you Zarina, for telling the raw and uncensored story, of characters that are often hidden from the bookshelves.

I don't even know how to start this review when my entire being is a wreck waiting for book 2. Kitaro and Vanra won me over hook, line, and sinker, and I *need* to know where their journey is headed next.

Rewinding back to the beginning of this book, the story started up with Auslin, a human mage, falling back in time through Fate's Gate to meet Kitaro, a shifter dragon prince. I was hooked right away by Auslin's struggle to make sense of his surroundings and the urgency he felt to get back to his own time. Kitaro's offer of safe haven was only ever meant to be temporary, but as more and more time passed and Auslin began to settle into a life at the dragon castle, things took a decidedly different turn. Meeting the rest of the royal family and spending more time with Kitaro gave Auslin the space to find peace with the life and relationships he'd left behind. Despite being a human, Auslin was welcomed into the shifter clan and treated as a trusted friend by almost everyone he met. I really enjoyed watching him train up his powers, hang out with Kisano in the library, and spend long, decadent nights opening up his heart and body to Kitaro. Fate's unknown purpose for Auslin lurked quietly in the background for most of the story, but it was easy to brush aside when Auslin and Kitaro were falling in love so sweetly. Zarina Aston spoiled me with an abundance of sweet, loving moments, passionate nights, and heartfelt conversations that made me feel so close to Kitaro and Auslin that I couldn't imagine fate deciding to separate them. My attention shifted to Mitsuki as the nastiest threat to their happiness, and over time his extreme hate of Auslin only got worse. Auslin and Kitaro didn't stop searching for answers, but not even a visit to the most powerful sorceress gave them any more clue as to what fate had intended for them. With that out of the way there was nothing more for the two of them to do except hold onto each other for as long as they could, and I basked in the sweetness of their affection without realizing just how quickly it could all come crashing down. I'm trying really hard not to leave any spoilers, so all I'll say is that the events and reveals at the end of the book left me audibly gasping and I'm so desperate to know what's going to happen next.

Even though I saw it coming from a mile away, I still got my damn feelings hurt with that last 15%.

I really need to do better at reminding myself these characters aren’t real. It’s wild.

Aside from some wonky bits here and there, this was an excellent book. It was enthralling, the characters were rich and held on to their intrigue/mystery the entire time, the plot was admittedly easy for me to figure out—there’s still a ton that I have questions about as far as lore and character background, so don’t trip—but in like a comfort read way, not a boring, predictable way, and I’m salivating for the next book already.

Side note: Just to double-down for the ones that won’t be happy that I said what I said, I’m not saying I have everything figured out, but it was easy for me to piece this book together as I read, and anticipation for how the author was going to handle the things I knew were coming was my favourite part. It’s always my favourite part. I love when I’m right! Vindication is one hell of a high.

The wonky bits were just some times I needed to do a li’l vibe check, but I’m pretty sure they’re things that will get ironed out before release. It’s hard to knock off for mechanics and stuff in an ARC.

The times we got some extra perspective from other characters throughout was also a really nice little bonus. It never spoiled anything, though, so don’t get your hopes up for a peek into the future. Heh. Looking at you, Kizoshi.

4.5/5! All in all, this was an amazing start to a very rad new high fantasy series, and I am always down for that. I am slowly starting to pull back from my contemporary era, I think, because I have been heavily drawn to nothing but fantasy/PNR lately. After reading the prequel, I knew I was in love, but this book solidified my bond to this series.

This is book 1 in the Bonded Hearts series and there is a prequel Enchanter of Dragons. This is the story of Auslin and Kitaro. Auslin is a human mage who has healing powers. When he accidentally ends up 600 years earlier, he is cognizant of the fact that he must not alter the time line accidentally. He meets the dragon Kitaro and saves him from an attacker. Since Kitaro can smell the scent of his family line on Auslin, he takes him to see his father the king, a man who hates humans. Thankfully the smell of the family line keeps Auslin alive. He introduces himself to the king as Vanra (his actual name but not the one that he usually uses) to ensure the time line is not disturb. The king assigned Kitaro to protect Vanra and help him try to return to his own time. This is their story. The book is very well written. Personally I found it a little confusing to have all the main players have names that start with the letter K and a similar to each other. I liked watching how Vanra and Kitaro's relationship grew. I really enjoyed this book. I was just as shocked as Vanra when Kitaro is renamed in the Coming of Heir ceremony. And the ending of this book! Took me by surprise. Now I can't wait to read the next one to see what happens.

This book was something else! I was drawn in from the beginning, wanting to read and discover more about Auslin and then as Vanra.
Hating his life with Kio, I wanted so much more for him. In his interactions with Kitsuki in the beginning, I felt there was more to their connection. Once Auslin went through Fate's gate and encountered Kitaro, I felt there was so much more to come. Their connection was meant to be infinite. Reading their journey, their growing feelings and commitments to each other had me rooting for them all the way. The world was uncertain, Vanra grew so much with his dragon prince, inspiring all around him to be intrigued by him from all the royal family up to King Tatsuki, of course, except Mitsuki. I think we all know he was just as taken by Vanra, he just didn't want to admit he was wrong, which caused all his hate.
As I continued to read, I wanted so much for Vanra and Kitaro to seal their love, but the mystery and all the obstacles thrown in their paths were as confusing to me as it was to them... just as it was meant to be. With all the they were told by Kisoshi and Satsuma, as I read on I knew time was running out to finish their tale. My gut was right about Kitsuki. As fate changed the table again, we were left hanging and I can't wait to read more.

3.5 rounded up

Thanks to Neon Rainbow ARC Review, I received an advanced reviewer copy (ARC) for free. I am leaving this review voluntarily.

Appart from the title and cover, I went blind into the book. Here are some things you might want to consider before diving in:
•This is a first in a series that is not yet complete. The second book is due sometime in October 2024.
•This is a lengthy book (more than 600 pages).
•This is a slow burn which actually ends in a cliffhanger.
•There is a prequel that could help with the world building (Enchanter of Dragons). However, the prequel’s MCs play only a small part in the series’ first book.

That being said, I had an agreeable time getting to know Vanra (Auslin) and Kitaro. Their love story quite literally transcends time and the prejudices against species throughout those times. Vanra is a human-mage (auromancer) who accidentally travels back in time. Prince Kitaro is a dragon-shifter Royal who takes the role of Vanra’s guardian and can’t help falling for the fascinating mage.

For the length of the story, I thought there would have been more action or unravelling of all the cryptic information. Unfortunately, we are left with more questions by the end. I’m still intrigued by the overall story and will probably read the second installment. I just hoped it won’t be that long.

This story is looong but I found myself still turning pages to get to the devastating cliffhanger that you just knew was coming. I got the sense that the author wanted to keep people guessing but I thought most things were broadcast a mile away. Despite that, I enjoyed the story of Auslin's once and future love. The side characters were actually quite fun, usually I dislike switching POVs to side characters in a romance but these chapters were fairly short and did add to the narrative in a positive way. I think more focus should have been put on Auslin coming to care about and love people that he knew he would never get to see again once he returns to his time. That is something that genuinely made me sad and it seemingly had no impact on him.

I am very much looking forward to the 2nd book but not at all for the third. I want Auslin and his dragon to get their hard won HEA after 600 pages of build up and 600 years of waiting. It makes me sad that ultimately Auslin will have to share his love yet again with a third. I feel like that was the main point of his character arc, learning that he should be enough for someone to love.

Human mage, Auslin, steps through a gate and finds himself transported back in time. He meets an amazing dragon named Kitaro. Alone and confused he trusts his life to the dragon prince, accompanying him to his castle where he meets an incredible array of individuals. Ketaro’s father is King Tatsuki and accepts him into the clan, once he understands his importance. His oldest brother is the most controversial as he hates humans and does everything he can to get rid of Auslin (also known as Vanra). His sister is filled with riddles and leaves them with more mysteries than answers. His other brother, Kisano, is the scholar in the family and never leaves the library. All these characters combine to produce a plot that keeps changing with each page. Auslin and Ketaro are amazing together. There love grows slowly and their life together is sweet and powerful. They are incredibly inventive as they explore each other. There is a surprising cliff hanger at the end but some things are explained. Many though remain a tantalizing mystery. Book two cannot come fast enough.
I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book and this is my very own opinion.

As soon as I finished, I had to start over at the beginning.

This book leaves you on an emotional cliffhanger, which I skipped over in the author’s notes in the beginning.

This book also has many POVs, but talked about in third person form. The POVs didn’t make it difficult to track, it provided different insights to the story.

I love that Jaega and Fersen made appearances in this book and by reading their story, it made a lot more sense about going into heat.

It’s slightly cozy romantasy, if that could be a thing, except it’s got lots of dramatic flairs and harsh topics like using sexual attacks as weapons and making people feel inferior.

It’s such a slow burn, and we are left with a cliff hanger.

I don’t know how I’ll be able to wait until the next book.
.
.
.
.

I have so many questions and no answers.

1. If Auslin had healing abilities, why did he not heal King Kitsuki’s arm immediately after meeting him?

2. Is there going to be a Kisano story?

3. Is Sephan playing a part in Kisano’s story?

4. Who is Redskin?

5. Auslin is half Power right?

Absolutely phenomenal!

This book rocks! The story of Auslin and Kitaro is filled with love, laughter, joy, pain and a bit of danger and is an absolute must read! Auslin finds himself in quite the predicament when he disregards old legends and goes through Fate’s Gate at the temple where he is a mage. It will lead him to Kitaro and their time together is an amazing journey as their feelings grow and develop as the story unfolds. There is trouble from Mitzuki, his oldest brother and it will cause a few bumps in the road of their journey. His other brother Kisano and his sister Kizoshi are absolutely wonderful and are an amazing part of the story. Fate is a fickle mistress and things do not end as Auslin, who goes by Vanra in his time with Kitaro, and Kitaro hope. Some shocking news will send Auslin from the palace only to end up in Fate’s grasp once more. I absolutely loved this story and I can’t wait to read what comes next!

I read an ARC copy of this book and am volunteering my honest review.

Just wow!

First warning - this book ends on a cliffhanger. I normally hate cliffhangers if the next book hasn't been already published but I couldn't resist. The author is a new pen name for Ariella Zoelle. If you know her books, be prepared for something totally and utterly different.

This book is big, 600+ pages of an epic story with so many twist and turns, riddles and clues, you can't put it down. It's fantasy with mages, dragon, enchanters, fate who s more than just difficult and a love story which will keep you hooked.

I fell for Auslin/Vanra and his journey to go back to his own time. Despite the size of the book, there is a lot of his background undiscovered.
While it was clear who Kitaro is, you just want to know what happens and why he changed in time.

My only issue was there the dragon shifter's names. were so similar, it does get confusing at the beginning.

Dragons, castles and mages. This book has all the necessary components for a good story. This was a great one. The clues the author sprinkles in throughout this book (lots in the last third of the book) have realllllllly raised my expectations for the next book, Consort. Enchanter of Dragons laid down excellent worldbuilding, and the author added lots more layers. It's a wonderful world, definitely a dangerous one. The ending was heart wrenching. Even after reading the blurb for the next book.
Vanra and Kithra have a steamy chemistry with lots of slow burn buildup with a bit of angst. Not knowing when Fate was going to pluck Vanra away led to a delicious tension in the story. Great secondaries. I want more Sephen, and am hoping he's Kisano's mate. And more War Power, Kizoshi.
This was a fun read. Hard to put down. I really am looking forward to the next book.

Beautiful slow burn love story

Yes, this book is really long but Zarina (Ariella Zoelle's new fantasy pen name) makes every word meaningful. I sat in my garden today in the sunshine and read this from cover to cover because I couldn't put it down. I didn't notice the time flying by because I was so immersed in Auslin and Kitaro's wonderful story.
Before you read this, read Enchanter Of Dragons which is the prequel and stars Jaega and Fersen and also introduces Jaega's family, all of whom are in this book, and you'll be hooked very quickly.
This does end in a cliffhanger so be prepared, and it's only three months until Consort of the Dragon King is out, but I've never been heartbroken by a cliffhanger before. I then read Mage of the Dragon Prince: Fate's Plan (the bonus chapter) and I almost ended up in tears.
I hope Consort Of The Dragon King is at least as long as this because I loved it so much, I'm going to feel short-changed if it's not.

This was the start of what I expect will be an epic romance between Auslin and Kitaro. Even though I guessed the twist early on, I was really intrigued by how this was going to link to the future where Auslin originally came from. The story was great and there was some good world building from the author - there’s a lot of side characters to meet, so keep yourself focused or you may lose track of who’s who, but the main characters and the story were really well fleshed out. I could guess what was going to happen, so there was a sense of foreboding and heartbreak while I was reading before it even happened, but I’m excited to see what happens next in book two.

The only thing that knocked a star off for me was that it was quite long - I felt like we probably could’ve got there a bit quicker with a little less filler, but I still enjoyed what I read. Also there was a LOT of apologising between the MCs throughout the book, for a multitude of things, and I sometimes found myself thinking, stop saying sorry already. But I still thought the story was great and I’m reeeeally excited to book 2.

*received ARC in exchange for honest review.

This is an epic book with a whopping 636 pages, but by the end of it you will be frothing at the mouth for more! This fantastical book centers on Auslin, who is an auramancer mage who travels the countryside healing and helping people, regardless of their heritage. When Auslin walks through Fate’s Gate, he is accidentally sent back in time where he meets Kitaro, a dragon shifter prince. Kitaro feels honor bound to help Auslin in his quest for answers and hopefully to get him back to his own time. While trying to figure out a way home, Auslin discovers family, love, and friendship that he never fathomed which makes him wonder if going back is really what he wants. This book is full of twists and turns and will have you not wanting to put it down! It does end in a cliffhanger but I’m not even mad! I seriously cannot wait for the next book in this series.

Time travel and dragons

I admit that it took a little bit of time for me to get into the swing of this book because of my problem remembering names as a lot are Japanese sounding names, but once I got into the story I really liked it. The story has a lot of angst just because of the time travel aspect and Auslin not wanting to leave Kitaro back in his past and Auslin being so concerned about accidentally changing history. The blurb says that it will keep you on the edge of your seat until the very last page and that is definitely what happened with me. I warn you that there is a cliffhanger and the next book won’t be out till November but it was fairly obvious what was going to happen so it’s not angst for us readers. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and would definitely recommend it to anyone who likes MM fantasy novels.

What a fascinating story that was well told and then set up to make me have to wait for its resolution. Auslin, the mage who finds himself stepping back in time and in need of assistance to try to find his way back to his own time. He meets Kitaro, his dragon prince, and so begins the building of their bond with one another. But this is the ultimate in a potential long distance relationship so I kept trying to reason out how this one would resolve. They are fated mates who live in different eras. Even as their relationship grows where they currently were it felt like this was not going to neatly wrap at the end of this book and it did not. I am now waiting impatiently for the next book in this story and hoping that these two will find a way. Such a strong start to this series. Easy to get hooked.

What a terrific book! It's a good thing it is such a page-turner, because it is a long book with a slow burn romance. The mage Auslin walks through a gate and finds himself thrown back in time, only to meet Prince Kitaro, a gorgeous and powerful dragon shifter. Auslin introduces himself as Vanra, his real name, so as not to mess up the timeline. It is lovely watching his relationship develop with Kitaro and getting to know all the other characters. There was quite a twist at the end, along with a cliffhanger that leaves you wanting more. I loved the action, suspense, intrigue and world building. To understand more about this world, you may want to read the prequel novella, Enchanter of Dragons. I really can't wait to read the next book in this series to find out what happens to these characters.

“You may be anything you wish here. You should make good use of the distance to discover what you want.”

Wow just wow!!! I'm a bit brain dead at the moment and having trouble getting my words to work correctly. Wow!!! What a great start to a new series by Zarina Aston (AKA Ariella Zoelle). If you haven't read Enchanter of Dragons, book #0.5, you should, it's a great introduction to the royal family.

This book is a behemoth!!! At least it is to me, I normally don't read anything over 300 pages. Anything over 300 seems daunting to me. But this book!!! Oh my goodness, the pages practically turned themselves, I didn't want to put it down.

Be warned, this book ends in a cliffhanger. Now I just need the next book, I really hate to wait.

This is an absolutely fantastic story about the forming connection between a time-travelling human mage and a dragon shifter prince. The world-building and character development are amazing, and I enjoyed the multiple POVs. I did stumble a little over all the similar names in Kitaro's family. It may seem a little thing, but for me it would have been easier to distinguish between them if they had more dissimilar names. Still, the story was compelling and intriguing, with danger, emotion, mystery, and romance...and one massive cliffhanger ending. This is a big book (over 600 pages), but I didn't feel like it dragged at all. I am really eager for the next book to see what happens after that ending.

I absolutely loved this series starter! Such an enjoyable, unique storyline with brilliant characters. When Auslin who is a human mage, accidentally travels back in time he meets Kitaro, a dragon shifter prince. As he has no one else he has to rely and trust Prince Kitaro. As they try to get Austin back to his own time they embark on a perilous journey full of twists and turns which bonds them and strengthens their feelings for each other. I don't want to give away any spoilers but seriously cannot wait for the next book to see them get their hea that the authors promise!
