PIPER I was only expecting a delivery of toothbrushes, but found myself face-to-face with an alien, not an Amazon delivery person. Abducted, I woke up on Niflheim, a heavily forested planet far away from home. Dumped here because my anxiety meds made me unworthy of my captors’ plans. I’m surrounded by friendly and well-meaning orkin who, unfortunately, have little experience with anxiety. But there’s another clan of orkin in the mountains who grow an herb that helps. And I’m bound and determined to get it even if it means braving the wild forest and early snows alone. The handsome orc who nearly felled a tree on me won’t stop following me. And keeps scattering my already racing thoughts.
AGNARR I’m the next in line for Fyrifirar Tribe Jarl, a skilled warrior, and definitely not good at chopping down trees. But I can’t stop thinking about the tiny human female who we’d found near our village with eleven other human females. She’s so small, barely larger than an orkin child, and so lovely I can’t get her out of my mind. And then I went and nearly killed her while felling a tree to distract myself. Yet somehow, she still ended up in my arms. If I didn’t know better, I’d say that Piper was my one true Elska mate. When she attempts to sneak away to Snaerfirar Tribe to obtain the herbs she needs for her anxiety, I follow, unable to let her go alone with the oncoming blizzard. I’ll help her get her herbs, I’d do anything for her, and maybe the Snaerfirar Tribe has answers to the question burning in my chest. Can humans and orkin be Elska mates?
Jen has been reading for as long as she can remember. She used to get in trouble for reading Little House on the Prairie under her desk in elementary school.
Jen is married to a very polite Englishman she brought back as a souvenir from her college study abroad trip. She has identical twin mutants who make her question her sanity daily. When not writing, she enjoys reading about monster dick, napping, and watching soothing cooking shows.
She is a goth kid at heart and truly wishes she could wear platform combat boots and black nail polish on all occasions.
Agnarr’s Teacher is a SPICY, cozy and easy read ❄️
Summary: Piper wakes up and she is not back home at her apartment. She has been kidnapped and taken to a different planet with no way to go back to Earth. The new planet is inhabited by orcs and she is now wishing she paid attention to Dungeons and Dragons 🤭 Agnarr is our sexy green orc with a man bun 🤤 he wishes for a mate but has not found one until he sees our piper for the first time and he knows she is the one.
I really don’t know how to feel about Piper. I really liked her but she was irksome and didn’t make smart decisions but maybe we can blame all of that on her anxiety issues..maybe…She’s sweet but feisty and doesn’t have a problem speaking her mind. She isn’t the typical heroine of a monster romance that complained the entire time and can’t fathom the idea of being with a monster. She actually made the first move..our girl is a freak 🤭 I didn’t like her hot/cold feelings but I know it had a lot to do with past issues in her relationships.
Agnarr aka lumbersnack is such a cinnamon roll. He’s protective, caring, thoughtful and sweet. He will do anything for Piper 🥹 He has a little bit of a possessive side but he lets Piper make all the decisions when it comes to their relationship. During sexual acts he always makes sure to get consent and make sure she is comfortable. And that sexy man bun and those thick green muscles makes me want to jump into his arms 🫠

I received an advanced reader copy of this book, and this is my voluntary, honest review.
“So what you’re saying is, you find me delicious, like these lumbersnacks?”
Piper gets abducted from earth and deposited rudely on Niflheim because she has controlled substances in her system – her anxiety meds. She meets with the orcs, and then the lumbersnack almost brings down a tree on her and she whittles his wood like a woodchuck. That sounds like a bad porno, and Jenifer Wood wrote it much better. Our bae does need her anxiety meds, and thus begins our adventure to retrieve the plant that’s used by orkin.
I want an orc lumbersnack. :( I really wanted this to be coherent, especially for the authors debut but let's just be honest okay, it's space orcs. It's space orcs with a zest of Norse mythology and I was practically licking the cover and that's before I got it loaded onto my kindle.
Reading this, it was easy, fun, and steamy. The biggest angst is anxiety generated, and the anxiety is that low creep of anxiety that was pictured perfectly on the page without making it feel overwhelming. Piper pursues her needs, gets them met, and then it's time to nail down the lumbersnack cause Agnarr is not the one you toss back into the ocean of fish for someone else.
This was a perfect distraction for when I was going through some stuff. Agnarr’s milkshakes could give lessons and charge for the education he's giving Midgardians.
Why ?????? Why do authors have their MMC compare their FMC’s to children ? In The same sentence the MMC is lusting or describing the FMC feminine attributes.
It’s beyond disgusting! ‼️‼️
I was so excited to read this book. It’s been all over my social media feeds and recommended on booktok, and then this ??! I just can’t.
Also, the beginning of the book is basically a summery of the begging of Ruby Dixon IPB .
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
I loved the concept of this book, but had trouble reading it. The Kindle version didn’t seem fully edited and it would repeat the same ideas just worded differently, almost as if someone forgot to delete a changed scene. This happens a couple of times. Example from Chapter Two:
“Agnarr and Brandr did not look like orcs from the Tolkien movies at all. If I was remembering correctly, Tolkien orcs were covered in slime. Agnarr and Brandr looked more similar to the orcs from Dungeons and Dragons. I was never really a D&D player, but my nerdy boyfriend had been hardcore into it. While still fearsome, they were less disturbing than the orcs of the Tolkien world. At least based on my hazy memories. I had never paid as much attention as Brian had hoped during D&D, focusing more on the snacks than the gameplay.”
Overall this was a very cute concept but just needs a good editor to help polish/develop the story. I quit reading about 20% of the way because of how rough the writing and development was but I still enjoyed the concept. That alone made me give it two stars.
So I was along for the ride with some aspects but a lot of it just didn’t align up. So we have possibly the world’s dumbest teacher. We also have aliens who aren’t technologically advanced with awareness of earth and other aliens and can read alien language. We also have an FMC that is basically at the mercy of aliens on an alien world and is okay walking alone then yelling at their males and such. It just is dumb and not reading like a strong independent female but a dumb one who should die in the beginning of horror films
I've seen it mentioned in several reviews that this is the authors's first book. On that, I give her high props for completing a book.
However, there were a lot of problems. Many could have easily been fixed with good, honest editing. I'm not talking about typos. None stuck out.
The issues are in inconsistencies.
The MC, Piper, is a human kidnapped by aliens and then dropped onto a planet of Orcs. Through the magic of unknown alien technology, she can speak and understand the orc language. That's fine. But the author introduces foreign words that she doesn't know. That would make sense if the words were for only things that don't exist on earth. But for some reason, the words for "day, week, and year" don't translate. Then, to make it even more confusing, Agnarr sometimes uses the English word and sometimes uses the orc word.
At another point, Agnarr is describing her appearance. He uses an orc word to describe the color of her hair but uses the word "peach" to describe her skin color. So, this alien planet has peaches.
The story is written in a very simplistic way. Characters are surface deep. Acceptance of her situation is instant. She wakes up in a room that is not hers with an orc child staring at her, but she remains calm. Then she looks out the window to find two giant orcs sword fighting. She's still not panicking. Shortly after, she's told she can never return to Earth. So she goes for a walk to wrap her head around this. Only to meet Agnarr and have a serious make-out session with him in the woods.
All of this happens within a handfull of hours of waking up.
To insta-everything for me.
I wish ARC readers gave more accurate reviews.
I gave this a chance because it had a 4 star review. Nothing about this book is a 5 or even a 4 star. I could see giving it a 3 star if you like simple stories with no depth.
Ok look. This was a cute book to read. Well written too. I am not a fan of the fmc but that is my preference as I prefer my fmc to make more logical life choices and not be TSTL.
Sure. She has anxiety.
I know all about that having had anxiety for 30 years now. And meds aren’t the only way to treat it. Sure for most of us it’s ideal and frankly makes life easier. But we have ways to calm ourselves and frankly laying the blame on a lack of meds shows ignorance on the topic.
But being on an alien planet and then deciding to leave on her own to go to another village to get an herb to treat her symptoms was dumb. So. Dumb.
Driven by panic?
No. Just nope.
The old drugs would have already been out of her system by three-four days as many only have a half life of 12-24 hours. So she might have been having her symptoms come back but it doesn’t mean you just lose all sense of right and logical.
She was just being ignorant of the world around her and stubborn. TSTL
Having anxiety doesn’t mean we lose the ability to be logical and make smart decisions. EVEN WO MEDS🤬
And that is the crux of this book for me. The author takes anxiety and makes it a launching point for Piper to do dunb shit and be mean.
She is snarky and bitchy to the mc, and frankly he just doesn’t deserve her ire. She just chooses to snap at him. But is nice to everyone else. What gives?
What kept me reading the book was Agnarr. He was tough but so sweet to her too. The fact he put up w her shit and thought it was cute was a damn miracle.
I applaud this author’s first book. Well written and loved the world building too. I will def read more. But just had to express my annoyance over the fmc. Piper can go suck a lemon.
Author Jenifer Wood single-handedly introduced me to a world of alien romance last year and pulled back into reading in general, as I followed her book recommendations on social media before she started writing herself. So I feel extremely privileged and honoured to be picked as one of the ARC readers; and knowing her reviews I expected her debut book to be excellent. I was not disappointed!
Main characters are well fleshed-out, likeable and thanks to dual POV reader can easily relate to both Piper (lead female) and Agnarr (lead male aka lumbersnack). Despite utilising fated mates trope the progression of their relationship does not feel rushed, forced or artificial, which I especially appreciate, as sometimes I find it jarring when MC falls into insta-love and doesn't question it at all. There's enough world building to not feel lost, but not too much, so it's not boring and you are left wanting to know more.
In general this is an easy, feel-good read - not much angst (which I personally love), lots of fluff and sweetness between main characters, no dramatic plot twists or villains wanting to mess up our ship and of course guaranteed HEA. I smiled like a lunatic the whole time I was reading it :)
There are however multiple explicit sex scenes, depictions of anxiety disorder and a kidnapping scene (albeit short), so if these are your triggers, beware.
All in all this book is exactly what I hoped for and expected it to be: well written, charming (if slightly mushy) and steamy slice of alien romance escapism. So get your spoon ready and gobble up! I can't wait for the next one in the series (there will be more, right?).
WHY are the women described as the size of children, then go to talking about lusting after them.
Who gets freaky WHILE being pinned under a tree? Also, you just got hit by a falling tree.
The impatience about going to this other tribe to get an herb for her anxiety doesn’t work. She admits to not knowing the planet- where is her anxiety about dying?
HER NOSE ARE BLUE FROM FROSTBITE AND NOW SHE IS ASKING TO GET DICKED-Down?! Nope.
Thank you for the ARC. I enjoyed reading this book and can’t wait to read more ! (I’m hoping the other humans get a book?!?!) The scenes were 🔥 🥵 Did not disappoint on the amount of Orc spunk LOL
Sooo, like many others I learned of the world of fated mates years ago but each story is always a new adventure. My introduction to the world of fated mates and lovely paired couples was in 2015. I was excited for this story because as a recent fan of orc everything I knew this would tickle my fancy.
Piper was taken from earth by aliens and dropped off in a Viking Orc space village. As you can imagine this had to be quite overwhelming but for Piper it wasn’t only overwhelming it made her extremely anxious so she sets on to find a way to fix that.
One problem is she takes anxiety medicine everyday. This alien planet doesn’t have any so she must find an alternative. On a chance encounter she meets Agnarr ,who is the Orc equivalent of the brother from Sons of Anarchy you know the one. The attraction is instant he’s hot, buff and completely single.
He’s smelled Piper once before and now he just can’t get her out of his mind. So when she offers to slob on his knob like corn on the cob he goes for it. What could wrong? She’s a beautiful woman, she’s human so they can’t be fated mates. Maybe they will just have a little fun or maybe they will find it all together. This was a very interesting read.
Do we love orcs? Yes. Yes we do. Wish there had been more about his differences than the similarities. Do we love high steam? Yes. Of course. Wish it was a bit more varied. Each scene seemed like more of the same. And it was a bit annoying that even though he was so large, she took him so easily, and without any prep. Do we love consent? 1000%. But did he really have to ask if she was sure twice before once during and once after for every fucking thing he did? It was too much. And do we love anxiety representation? Unequivocally yes. But it felt a bit contrived. It wasn’t true to any of my own struggles with anxiety and I didn’t love the way she blamed her personality flaws in the anxiety. Overall a good read and I would read the next one. But not sure if I would ever read this one again. Not much happened in the book.
DNF @ 40%. I can see this book getting pretty hot, but for the love of god, I’m going to rip my hair out if I read another page. Piper has anxiety and parental/religious based trauma - I understand this can make you react poorly (for lack of a better term) to certain situations.
She wakes up on an alien planet. She doesn’t know the topography, weather, flora or fauna. So when the MMC and local leader advise that she should travel with appropriate guards, she flips her shit and thinks she is more than capable of traveling to a village that’s 2 days away (at best) alone. She says “fuck the patriarchy” in response to their decision. I immediately returned the book to kindle unlimited. It’s not the fucking “patriarchy” - you will probably fucking die trying to get to the other village ON AN ALIEN PLANET YOU JUST WOKE UP ON THIS MORNING! I’m done.
This was ROUGH. I can't believe how long it took me to finish this damn book. I wish I would have just DNFed this and moved on. This book is SCREAMING for an editor. 29. 29 notes/highlights I made within this book. 27 of which are me shredding it to pieces. I thoroughly disliked Piper. She didn't deserve Agnarr as a mate. And while we all like a "consent king" this was waaaaay over done IMO. Even with the necessary editor, the story line is weak. Gave good steam but there really wasn't enough plot aside from Piper's dumbass fixating on her Lexapro fix. Look, I'm not insensitive to anxiety but Piper's focus was all over the place. She was fine waking up with Orcs but no Lexapro?? Ugh. I felt like she was whiny, immature, impulsive, inconsistent, selfish, etc.... Ok, ok, I'll stop my rant now. Needless to say, I will not be continuing this series.
I received an arc copy for this book and I’m soo happy I did.
This is such a nice, fast paced, cozy and low stakes fantasy romance. The blurb explains the plot perfectly, our main character Piper wakes up and finds herself on a foreign plant with a new and foreign species.
Conversations happen and information is shared with our main character explaining to her how she ended up at their planet. After that she goes and meets our main male character Agnarr.
We follow Agnarr and piper’s quest and journey to a neighboring tribe to find something of importance for Piper, and during this journey both Piper and Agnarr get to know each other more and get closer and more comfortable with each other.
I absolutely loved the vibes and the world building in this book as well as the journey our two main characters went on, as I mentioned the stakes are low in this book so the journey to the other tribe wasn’t intense or stressful more like calming and cozy.
The romance was really nice and didn’t feel rushed despite the short timeline in the book and the communication between the couple was amazing, they were both open with each other and no one hid anything important from the other.
but there is a lot of spice and steam so be aware of that if that’s not something you like.
Overall this was a four stars read for me and I would definitely recommend it if you’re looking for a cozy fantasy romance to finish in one sitting. Once again thank you to the author for providing me with an arc copy ❤️
At this point, I’m honestly ready to fight someone if I don’t get my own personal alien mate.
Piper wakes up on an alien planet inhabited by big green orcs, and her first reaction is to go on a Hot Girl Walk and fool around with one of them in the woods. She then decides to take off on her own little adventure to obtain some alien anti-anxiety tea, despite having no idea how to survive on her own. What a legend.
It’s a good thing Agnarr, the sexy lumbersnack, is onto her shenanigans and follows her to make sure she doesn’t end up a human popsicle. He also happens to know where the sexiest caves and log cabins are along the way 😏 Agnarr has been looking for his mate his whole life, and he’s pretty sure this sassy human is it. He just has to prove it to her, and his village.
This was such a sweet, funny, STEAMY monster romance. I had a great time and immediately picked up the sequel.
DNF @41%. I had to stop at the point where she said her "anxiety will power her through" going to an unknown tribe, on an unknown planet, with completely unknown creatures and unknown dangers and zero survival skills. That's not how anxiety works. Also her getting angry at Agnarr for pointing out all these things to her and "humiliating her" in front of the tribe? Love, no one is humiliating you better than you are. At no point did she actually display any signs of anxiety, and yet it fuelled the entire book and was mentioned at least every other page.
Sweet, Cozy, and Spicy! An amazing trifecta! This was a fun, lighthearted read, while also dealing with a few more serious things along the way. I really had fun reading it and can’t wait to read more!
Details • MF Orc Alien + Human Romance (Agnarr + Piper) • Alien planet setting • Dual POV • Spice, on page, descriptive & detailed intimate scenes. HIGH HEAT • First in a series; HEA feels, technical HFN bc a 2nd book is planned for MCs; other pairings’ planned. Can be read as a standalone complete story
There are so many things I love about this book. Sweet aliens, with special anatomy; fated mates (but they don’t always know immediately); a road trip quest; and two loveable MCs. Piper and Agnarr came together with a bit of bang (I mean, it includes being dropped off on an alien planet after an abduction, fainting, and trees falling over), and while they felt immediate attraction, there was always a focus on respect, consent, and learning about each other.
I can’t not talk about the anxiety representation in this book. It is a big focus of Piper’s journey, as she was just dropped out of the sky without her medication. As a devoted lover of fantasy and sci-fi romance, I often try to imagine what it would be like to be in the MC’s place; and I usually get forced out of the imagination by considering what it would mean to be without my medication. Breathing exercises, centering, focusing on sights/sounds/smells, can only get me so far sometimes. To say I understood Piper’s reactions and thoughts is an understatement. The way the Orkins, in general, and Agnarr, specifically, responded to her anxiety, was so refreshing. (no spoilers, there isn’t a magic cure, but there are options for anxiety treatment there. In case you are anxious about that too. Piper does not have to go without treatment.) It means so much to read a character that has a head that works like mine does. In some ways!
There are a multitude of other wonderful tidbits. A healthy dose of size difference and some sharing of body heat. Also some knots. A Cinnamon Roll hero who just wants to protect and provide for a independent and sometimes illogical (I related to it, but it doesn’t mean she wasn’t being a dum dum) heroine. Using snark as a love language and lessons on spooning. Seriously, just full of goodness!
There were a few occasions when I felt it was a bit drawn out, but the story never really dragged. I do think it probably could have just been cut down a bit.
Content • Author’s Note includes list • Parental neglect (past) • Parental loss (past) • Near drowning • Wildlife attack • Anxiety, panic attacks
I received an ARC of this book, in exchange for an unbiased review. These thoughts are my own.
There’s definitely something here. It’s good but the author forgets what world they’re in with phrases like “rail thin” or referring to the orcs sight as “stronger”. Strong than who’s? And how do you know?
Overall the story is good but definitely needs a little more thought behind some of the phrases used. Would read the next one tho, assuming there will be more.
There is lots to love in this debut book from Jenifer Wood. Orc romances are a favourite, and this one has lots of the elements I enjoy. A sweet, caring orc who meets his fated mate, and a sassy, headstrong human who has been dropped into a new world and must learn to trust herself and her feelings. This was a low-angst read with the focus on their developing relationship. The spicy scenes were definitely swoon-worthy and so is Agnarr. I also really enjoyed the anxiety rep, and it was very relatable for me. I can't wait for more books in this series!
I have absolutely fallen in love with Agnarr and Pip! Being thrown into this alien planet with sexy orc’s was so fun. Jenifer Wood did such an amazing job with this story and it was such a fun spicy read. I cannot wait for the second book to come out!
If I was abducted by aliens and then abandoned on a random planet I would not be as chill as Piper. I totally get the panic around access to medical care and that isn't something I've read much of in other alien books! (I'm sure it is out there) I was yelling at the book when Piper was being silly and putting herself in dangerous situations (like going on a long journey BY HERSELF ON A STRANGE PLANET) But Agnarr is really sweet and I love how protective he was. They got hot and heavy really quickly but I liked that there was nice consent between them. I'm looking forward to the next book! I want to know more about the ladies that were left on this planet and the other Orckin.
I think I found my "monster" - Alien Orc Lumbersnacks. Big soft consent king, Agnarr, hungry for his mate just does it for me. And Piper my queen! While her choices were absolutely fruatrating at times, we get the backstory in great detail as to why she makes the choices she does.
Its straightforward alien abduction premise but with a quest adventure. This allows not just for sexy alone time for Agnarr and Piper, but we see them banter and cooperate and open their hearts as they fall in love. The mixture of mid/high stakes action as well as soft and steamy emotional scenes hade me enjoying every page.
I thoroughly enjoyed this. The plot was strong and enticing. I absolutely loved Piper and Agnarr. The language was fun and immersive. A human is abducted by aliens and dropped on an orc planet. Stay with me- I giggled too but this was such an interesting plot point. She learns about living with the orcs and finds her fated mate in Agnarr. Adjusting to orc life isn’t all that bad when everyone is so welcoming and helpful but when you are stuck on an alien planet and don’t have your anxiety medicine- it can be a bit stressful. Agnarr is a total book BF and so sweet. This story is heavy on the spice. And delicious spice at that. Special dong, LOTS of fluids, size difference…. Absolutely delicious. I thought it was well written and flowed nicely. I enjoyed reading this from page one to the very last page.
