Introducing myself

Hello, I’m Amy!

I live in Auckland, New Zealand, and have done for three-quarters of my life. The other quarter was spent in England, where my kids were born. I have three of those, and they’re very cool. I’m a bit demented and thought it would be a good idea to have them a year or so apart. I’m still recovering from that misguided notion, but am convinced that a month in Bora Bora would set me right!

Speaking of travelling, as much as I crave a tropical island escape, you’re far more inclined to find me hankering after snow. We don’t have any of that in Auckland – not a drop! And, although it did snow occasionally in dear old England, I’m still looking for the up-to-your-window sort of snow experience. I come from Viking stock (my grandmother was Swedish), so maybe that’s why I have always craved the cold, white stuff. In fact, my husband and I bonded over our love of scarves.

'Twas love at first discussion about the pleasure of a good scarf!

My reading journey
I was drawn to historical romance as a young reader. I loved anything by the Brontë sisters, but I think Jane Austen was my favourite author at that time. It was a toss-up between Pride & Prejudice and Jane Eyre for my favourite book as a tween. As I got older and developed a real love of history, I became obsessed with anything do with Vikings. I fell in love with Bernard Cornwell and Robert Lowe, Giles Kristian, too. But there’s always been time to fit in the next Diana Gabaldon. Her Outlander series is probably my favourite series ever (great tv too!). History is my one true love, so some of my favourites lately have been C.J. Sansom’s thrilling Tudor series and Patrick O’Brien 19th century naval adventures.

I always thought I would write the Furyck Saga as a historical fiction series, but I never found a period or place where it felt possible. Ultimately, I realised that actual history was far too limiting, so I stepped away from reality and entered the wonderful world of fantasy, and that’s when the fun started…

It took me a long time to become a writer.

I have ring binders and ring binders of stories, screenplays, tv show concepts, and book ideas that I’ve been creating since I was 10-years-old.
I was always very fast with ideas but seeing them all the way through was a lot harder, and eventually, as I grew up, life and work got in the way.
I would try writing Winter’s Fury off and on, but I never got very far, and dissatisfied, I always gave up, telling myself there simply wasn’t enough
time to fit writing in around three children, two dogs, a graphic design business, etc. etc. But what I quickly discovered is that time is what you make of it.

Inspired by an article I read about James Patterson, who got up early to write his first book and fit it in around his job, I started making writing a
daily discipline; the idea being that, bit by bit, I would eventually create an actual book. At first, it was tough. It felt like I was training for a marathon
and I didn’t even know how to run. But every day it got a little easier and eventually, I started to write more freely, and one day I had enough of a
book to show my husband. At this point it was either, forget it again, or keep going.

He read it and said… keep going. So, I did.

And I haven’t stopped!

Better

This one actually had more progress than the last and a lot less standing still and repeating the same actions.

Some of the characters that you would think actions were to be followed more closely were not and so when they would appear again later with some major revelation or action tied to them, it was weird and felt like it was poorly placed… or rather just made up on the spot with no lead up. And some you’d just expect to hear more about, like Rexon and Erling, later in the story and you hear nothing at all.

And of course, we have some deaths, some to be expected and some not. Some I don’t know how to feel about at all…

Anyway, I think there’s one more installation before I have to wait for the finally this summer of 2025, I think? See my notes, highlights and comments on Goodreads. Happy reading!

Why.....?

Why on earth did I start on this series! I thought it was in 3 parts so I was quite pleased that I had managed to wait until what I thought was the last book to come out! Now, AE Rayne is consistent in delivering stellar writing. What a ride so far! The book has a very gripping storyline with unexpected twists and turns alongside. Love everything about this series, and I'm quite put off by the fact that I now simply must wait for the next and hopefully last book ... hurry up, AE Rayne! Pleaseeee, I am begging!

Dreamers! Dreamers? Ugh! Can’t they make everything turn around to the good side yet?! As all of AE Rayne’s books, especially with Jael, this is a fast paced saga full of pitfalls, betrayals, surprises and Evil bastards! The story is so good and literally keeps you glued and waiting to see what happens next. Saving Ándala comes with a high price tag. Man! Jael as usual is phenomenal, her training in warfare is tested and is successful and her being a dreamer —albeit an untrained one is super helpful, but not everything is clear, until it is but it’s too late when it makes sense. Where will the next one take us? Hopefully to Edela, she needs to help the remaining Furycks. Right?

Home of the Hunted - captivating and extremely intense

If you're seeking an epic fantasy that is super action packed, this is a must read! A. E. Rayne does not disappoint. Every chapter is absolutely intense that it becomes difficult to even put the book down to give your eyes a rest. There is never a dull moment. Every character seems so real that you you can almost see yourself in the midst of their action. Such an entertaining read! I can hardly wait for the next book of the series regarding the life of Jael Furyck!

I don’t know, nothing really new here. Maybe I’ve just reached my limit for these books. I’ve read the Furyck Saga and now with this third book of the Fate series I’m just a little bored and not really interested in the usual machinations of Rayne’s storyline. This one was fine and at times I really enjoyed it but I also am just tired of the need to make us feel Jael and Eadmund’s relationship is always under threat. I’m also a little bored with rehashing the same sort of threat with the same sort of resolution. I don’t think I have it in me anymore to continue on.

Battles and Heart ache

This book has the most epic battle in all the Furyck . So many enemies come together to destroy the furycks and take the Kingdom for themselves. The one thing they didn't count on was Jael being in the fort when they attacked.
In this book there were 2 major deaths that I did not see coming and the way they died, oh boy. My heart truly breaks for Jael.

This book is packed with nonstop action and intrigue! Theres a lot going on, on many fronts. Jael is right in the middle, where she always seems to find herself! The big battle at the end was long and very intense in description, not hinting to the reader how it would play out. The ending was not what I would have imagined, but that seems to be what Ms Rayne is all about! There was some crucial losses, but the story moves on.

An outstanding epic fantasy with a well written storyline and an excellent cast of characters. Very enjoyable tale with non-stop action, suspense, battle scenes, and some magic. A page turning epic fantasy that was very enjoyable and well worth reading. Well-crafted story by and outstanding author.

Jael has her hands full in this one and she hasn't even had time to heal from her time as a slave. Her brother is in trouble, her grandmother is missing and the country is in danger. The evil seer is planning more mischief as well.
The story keeps the suspense building and the action is exciting. Loved the book and can't wait for the next.

A very well done and surprisingly keeping one guessing the outcome. But you need to read the first two in the series before this one.

This is the third book in the Fate of Furycks series. Edmund and Jael have been reunited and they rush to save Axelle and his kingdom. While Adelle, Grandma and dreamers continues on her side quest with the other king and brother.

It is just so action packed and full of well developed side stories and mysteries. But what I really love about this series is every female character kicks arse and is a formidable opponent. I am looking forward to finishing this series.
