As a former police officer, prosecutor, and now a Judicial Magistrate and criminal defense attorney, I have witnessed the piv- otal role that remaining silent plays in protecting an individuals’ constitutional rights and ensuring a fair legal process. I have interviewed literally thousands of people over the years who have not handled the police interaction the correct way. In fact, most people I have represented have not handled the interaction properly.
I have always wanted to write this book, and teach people what they wish they had known the day before they got arrested. This book delves deep into the importance of maintaining silence and the reasons why individuals should never speak to the police without the guidance of legal counsel. Through a comprehensive exploration of the United States and Tennessee Constitutions, along with analysis of landmark legal cases, this book aims to empower readers with the knowledge they need to safeguard their rights and navigate the criminal justice system.
“I don’t answer questions” (without a lawyer) is the ONLY thing you should ever say to a police officer. Period. Full stop! Read on, and let’s learn why.
Everyone, from teenagers to old age, should read this book. Knowing your rights and how to invoke them when there are encounters with the police is something we all need. This book doesn't give a distorted or anti-cop view of the police. Instead, it gives clear and simple advice on when and how to remain silent. It also teaches the concept of remaining calm and respectful in those encounters.
great book and everyone needs to know and understand their rights!!!. The author did a good job explaining why you should not talk to the police. I never seen anything good coming from knowingly talking to them. The burden is on them to prove you committed a crime. This book will help law abiding citizens know their rights.
This is a great book to keep. We have always been told to be respectful and tell the police everything we know so it is hard to try and do the opposite and tell them no comment. This book has me intrigued and will definitely be looking into it and sharing it.
I think they ought to teach this in junior high and in high school so just so that kids when they're becoming adults know their rights especially their constitutional rights
