“We are like a system of two suns, you and I, and I don’t want to rob you of your gravity.”
Argentea’s Team Three is dealing with the aftermath of the attack on Starlit Stage, and none of them has more to deal with than Coldis.
For years, Coldis has worked to build his team and protect the Guardians in it, his family. Now, after Hyran imprinted on Coldis during the attack, everything might change. What that change will bring, none of them know, but they will have to figure it out soon so they can rebuild what was broken after the attack and guard against another one. After all, Team Three has reason to suspect that the threat to the cities has not been dealt with…
Guiding Reason contains brief mentions of violence.

"I know I can't change how I feel after imprinting, and you might not want to change how you feel, but I hope there is a path - I just want to be with you, and I want you to want that."
I loved getting to know Hyran and Coldis better!! Hyran was so freaking sweet on Coldis and was exactly the type of Guardian he deserves. I mean, Coldis is like the ultimate Conduit catch in terms of rank and popularity. Everybody wants him or to be him. That being said, Coldis also comes with a close found family of Guardians, which is pretty damn hard to take for a newly imprinted Guardian. I really applauded the way Hyran handled it, despite his entire nature screaming for him to whisk Coldis away from it all.
"I will share this heart with you, my Conduit, if you'll let me."
There was a lot going on in book 3 besides the blossoming romance between Coldis and Hyran. We get quite a few different peoples POVs, including Taros which was fun! The people of Ferrea are trying to find their way in the aftermath of the insurrectionist attacks and our beloved Team Three are knee deep in trying to figure out it all.
I'm not quite sure if we have another two Guardian/Conduit couples in the works as well. Vin and Karmine sure seem to have their eyes on the new Conduit members of their team. And can I just say I am so happy that both Yamara and Lapatea have both been taken in by the team. Yamara has definitely lived through some type of horrid abuse with his previous situation and Lapatea just lost their best friend. I just adore this group of characters and can't wait to see what happens next!
Alexa? We need to talk about that cliffhanger! Oh, the tension and action at the end were something! I really hope there isn't a long gap between this book and the next one.
Guiding Reason begins almost immediately after Guiding Purpose and must be read as part of the series. This time Coldis and Hyran take center stage, though there are pov's from Orrey, Senlas, and Taros from their team.
Col and Hyran have to adapt to their imprinting while also helping Ferrea recover from the Starlit Stage attack which has left the city without an Op-AI. There's a lot going on story wise with the threads of the ongoing plot being woven in with the new information we get along the way. Things are far from over.
That doesn't mean Col and Hyran don't have time to get a little spicy. I adored their dynamic and Hyran is the greenest of green flags. He gives control over to Col and refuses to do as others have done and take Col's power from him, even though he legally can.
There's more of the subplot from the last book coming full circle here in the outside of the cities. The bots also have their own thing going. I'm fond of butler-bot 20 and 25's chats. They love their charges.
A rich world with great characters. I'm going to need that next book soon, though.
This is book 3 in the series and must be read in order. I am really loving these book and the world building is amazing. This book starts after Guiding Purpose where Coldis is hurt and Hyran saves him and imprints on him. Col is suffering from a concussion and is in the hospital as the doctors are trying to help him get better. Col realizes that Hyran imprinted on him and is hovering over him to get him to take his medication. When released from the hospital, Col is trying to figure out what happened with the attack. This is the start of how they started to learn more of what happened and learning more about each other. I cannot wait to read the next book to find out what happens with Hyran.
One thing I adore about series that become favourites is that you read the first book and think it’s amazing and then each consecutive book just blows the last one out of the water with how awesome it is. It’s like never ending candy or free coffee from coffee shops in its perfection. Col and Hyran are fitting into the theme of this series just building with each book. I don’t want to say too much because I don’t want to spoil things for others but the connection between these two was *chef’s kiss*. All the concerns I had initially were nowhere to be seen once we got to see Hyran actually show who he truly was and how good he could be with Col. There’s also all kinds of things going on in the background which really keeps things intriguing. I can’t wait for what’s next!!!
Guiding Reason is the 3rd book in the Guardian & Conduit series. This is not a standalone and should be read after the first two books. I couldn't put this book down once I started because I needed to know what was coming next. This book is mainly about Coldis(Col) and Hyran who imprinted on him in the attack of Starlit Stage. This was such a good continuation of the story. I loved watching Col and his team learn that Hyran is really a good guy. We learn so much as the characters deal with healing and the aftermath of the attack. Col and Hyran have so much to figure out as a new imprinted couple. I love that there is still so much to learn about those who committed the attack. I hate that this book ended on a cliffhanger. I really need the next book soon. I would definitely recommend this book and series as it is a 5 star read.
I loved Coldis and Hyran! Coldis was already a favorite as Orrey’s “big brother” and team leader but Hyran had to grow on me. He obviously isn’t as bad as Col and the others feared. Hyran is actually a good guy as Col and the others come to know. I love all of these characters so much and can’t wait to read the next one. I am so addicted now. And the cover!! I think this one is my favorite.
I'm rounding this up from 4.5. This third book of the series was so good to read. I thoroughly enjoyed Coldis and Hyran's story. I just could not put it down. Be forewarned that this does end on a cliffhanger.
‘Col’s lips twitched. “I don’t normally do this.” He reached for Hyran’s waistband, pulled him closer. Hyran let himself be pulled, followed willingly. “But sometimes Guardians need help with the simplest things, and who else should they turn to but a Conduit? It’s like you cannot see the details while you’re trying to see something in the distance.” Hyran swallowed. “I see you. I see only you and no one else.”
Hyran and Coldis seek to find balance in their newly formed relationship, in Alexa Piper’s Guiding Reason. This is book 3 in their Guardian & Conduit series.
Alexa forms worlds that revolve around conflict, and Hyran joining the already existing found family, in which Col is team leader, creates huge tension for all. Along with that stress, the city in which they are staying has been attacked and finding those evil enough to do so is wreaking havoc on the entire community.
There are bright and funny spots in the book that help balance the trauma the guardians are living with, and Orrey and Senlas continue to be an important couple in the series.
World building is exquisite in this series, actually each of Alexa’s TBH. You can find otherworldly drama that is well written and a truly enjoyable read!
Let's be honest, I came into Col and Hyran's story with some trepidation, the leader of Argentea's Team Three imprinting on a Ferrean Guardian. Ugh, A. could not split up the team, please no! Reason picks up immediately after the attack on Ferrea in Guiding Purpose, so it really shouldn't be read as a standalone. AI's are down, Bots are running amok, cats and dogs...Coldis is in the clinic with Hyran hovering and pacing over His Conduit and dealing with the members of the overprotective Team Three family. Col is totally the head of that family. The consequences of the attack continue to play out throughout their journey as they figure out how their imprinting will work. I love how each chapter is from one of the character's POV. And we get chapers from Orrey and Senlas. Even Taros, so Taros! Plus the mass media posting/streams and Bot/AI chats, woven throughout, builds the story arc, the world. Almost forgot, Hyran's moms was so not having it, perfect! We get more hints there's some rot in the fabric of Wilan's lore, knew it. There is a cliffhanger, not with Col and Hyran's relationship but rather the suspense arc. I need my dear Piper to quickly write the sequel.
Guiding Reason follows Col and Hyran as they navigate their new bonding in the aftermath of the attack on the city of Ferrea. The opening of the book has a lot of grief as many were killed in the attack that took place at the end of book two. Members of the team are healing but still managing to be the most competent people in the city if only because they have experience thinking for themselves and questioning the status quo.
The author has done such precise and detailed world building that sometimes I feel like I need to slow down and take a microscope to the words to really grasp not only the technology that the cities are dependent on but the history of how they got there. And how that history is intertwined with their culture and the Guardian/Conduit relationships vs those of the regular citizens.
This book is full of drama and action. It ends on a cliffhanger. The author skillfully makes you care about each of the characters before pulling the rug out from under them. It's a brutal world in the midst of upheaval, and Col and his team will be the ones to lead them through.
This story showcases Coldis and Hyran's relationship and takes place right after the events of the previous book in the series (gentle note that you'll want to start at the beginning, if you haven't already, as there's very much a larger plot and intricate world filled with relevant characters at stake). It's a compelling read on all kinds of levels-- the dynamic between Col and Hyran, how they adapt to their imprinting while there's a lot going on (so much, like so, so much, and I'm not spoiling any of it) with plots and subplots-- the larger world this story takes place in is endlessly interesting and easy to get caught up in. All in all, an enjoyable and immersive read.

Guiding Reason (Guardian & Conduit Book 3) Alexa Piper
Coldis is charge of Argentea’s Team Three, while on a mission things went sideways and there were injuries and casualties. Along with that Hyran imprinted on Coldis during the attack. Now Hyran wants to protect Coldis with everything in his power. Coldis team is a little protective of their leader, making it harder on Hyran to do what he's supposed to do for Coldis. I love the part with Hyran and Taros go to the Kashana, I was hoping he would take him there again. Also when Hyran has to run (with his speed) Coldis and Taros back and forth. Really enjoyed these characters and the storyline.
My favorite thing about this series is that you do need to read these in order, and you will want to! I loved that the main romantic pair in this book, Hyran and Col, were the main POV, but that we also still get some POV with the rest of the team; Orrey, Senlas and Tarlo. For Col and Hyran the bonding kind of came before the true romance so it was interesting to watch them adapt and at the same time fall in love for real. A spicy and sweet pairing with a tons of overarching fantasy plotlines! Yes, that part is Cliffy once again.
Coldis team is one of my all times favorite set of characters and the addition of Hyran gives the team a new take in Guardian-Conduit pairings. The utmost respect Hyran has for Coldis is heartwarming and how he carves a spot in the team is great. And Coldis, the perfect conduit, so sure, so confident... Here we meet his most vulnerable parts. I love this pair and how they build their imprinting to something wonderful. They are sweet and spicy and the worldbuilding is amazing. I need to know what happens next.
REALLY loved this book the only downside was I hate cliff hangers, it wasn't enough for me to downgrade my rating but it was a disappointment. HOWEVER, that does not distract from how much I love this series! Will reread would recommend.
I love that Col gets his own story and gets his own Guardian, Hyran. They're just as cute as a couple as Orrey and Senlas. Well, I have to admit that I love all of Alexa Piper's main couples.
A CLIFFHANGER???? You dare?!?!?? What... What is this madness. I haven't signed up for this and this one took TIME to come out and it's still fresh and it has a cliffhanger??????
