Based on other reviews and the rating I liked this book a lot more than I thought I would. The premise is amazing and was executed beautifully. It was so refreshing to read a romance where it is a slow burn and they're friends first. Yes, they got kinda googly-eyed over each other very early BUT they realized it and they were mature adults about it. Both of them knowing that recently coming off a breakup is not a good time to start a new relationship and fall instantly in love. One of the characters is actually seeing a therapist and I was so here for it. I loved how real and raw and true to life the plot was.
I adored the two main characters. I was cheering Millie and Jesse on, not just for them to get together romanticly but their lives in general. I felt invested in the outcome. They were both very relatable despite having famous parents. Jesse's secret was an unexpected twist in the best way possible, not in a creepy secret kind of way. It was more in the I don't want to hurt you kind of way. The book has many locations, London, Paris, Provincial France and Los Angeles. I felt like I was there. One of my favourite scenes was when Millie went shopping in France.
If you're looking for a captivating romance that is so much more than a romance because it deals with not only love, but life and family and broken hearts and all that other messy stuff...this is the book for you. This is my fifth book by the author and it's so nice to get a winner every time. I highly recommend The Three Loves of Sebastian Cooper

This book was incredibly refreshing. It’s not usually the type of book I read - which was ironic considering Minnie’s therapist had encouraged her to read genres outside of her usuals.

There was a lot of depth to the characters and they were incredibly likeable. It was interesting to get their thought process during difficult times.
The world building when they were travelling was magical. The authors depiction of the environment was well done. The Bechdel test was a really interesting one and I will be trying it in the future movies/books I read!
I highly recommend this one if you want to step out of the usual romance books!

It took me awhile to get into this story, it was a bit different than what I have read in the past by this author.
I loved the character of Minnie, she was sweet, funny, imperfect & loveable. I enjoyed her journey and healing throughout this story.
This would be a perfect read for those who love the following;

This story deals with so much more than just romance-it tackles life, love, family, broken hearts and all the messy stuff that goes with being alive that a lot of romances leave out. There's lots of scenic locales like London, Paris and Los Angeles. There's a lot going on and it's easy to get sucked in and lost for several hours Millie is trying to get over her heartbreak so her therapist suggests she tries to make some new friends. So, she decides on a whim while she's out one day to just introduce herself to Jesse. They both agree that neither has time for a relationship, but they seem to get on well, so they agree to friendly meet ups but not exchange numbers or anything, and see where things go. They both have loads of baggage so it seems like the ideal situation for both of them, but of course, that's not all that's going to happen.
They made quite the pair and there is a lot that happens in the span of those five days and leaves the reader with a heartwarming story and a satisfying ending

I thought the premise of this book sounded good and interesting. However I had the hardest time getting into this book and staying focused on it. I don’t think I really cared for the main characters. Minnie just annoyed me and Jesse came across as a jerk at times.
Perhaps I’ve just read too many romance type books in a row and they all seem the same.

I received an ARC and these are my thoughts:
Minnie is heartbroken. Her therapist suggests she make new friends, so she decides to befriend a stranger who is having a bad day. Though Jesse is unsure, he agrees to meet her and just “hang out”. The rules are simple: only first names, no phone numbers, have fun and no falling in love. Five days. No chance of falling in love, is there?
I loved this book! In true Zoe Folbigg fashion, things are never what they seem. Unlike The Note or the Postcard, this book was fast paced and dynamic; the way she describes the different locations and the MCs’ interactions, made me feel as if I were sitting there with them, watching the scenes unfold. I love that her stories have a serendipitous quality to them - makes for the most heartwarming happily ever after. And those plot twists?! I was not expecting them, that’s all I’m saying.
Jesse was so endearing. His life was in pieces; he was heartbroken and grieving, but he was sweet and flawed, making him quite relatable. Minnie was a bit of a mess; also heartbroken but for different reasons, she is desperately trying to piece her life back together. They made quite the unexpected pair, as they fell for the versions of each other they knew (none of them had the full picture) - but in reality, who does? In the end, they had more in common than they knew.
This is the perfect summer read and the blurb doesn’t do this story justice - there is so much that goes on, in and in between those five days.

I loved reading 'Five Days', I instantly connected with the characters and found myself immersed in their world, keen to keep reading to find out what happens to them. The plot is brilliant, quite simple but Folbigg explores a lot along the way. This has ups and downs and every emotion imaginable. This was a truly, fun, delightful book to read.

4.75🎧- I loved Fairytale in New York so when I saw Zoë Folbigg had another novel out, I jumped to read it. This sucked me in from the very first line and kept me hooked through the entirety of it. I really adored every minute I spent listening to this.

It’s a crazy plan, but both are willing to give it a try.
For as much as I loved Fairytale of New York, I found myself loving Five Days even more. Ms. Folbigg has crafted such a sweet story filled with charming characters and some beautiful scenery. While it’s of the same genre as Fairytale, it’s completely different making it perfect for those who weren’t fans of the latter.

An adorable meet cute romcom type of novel that will have you smiling through most of it. Giving this one a 3.7. It feels like I’ve seen this story played out in tons of movies and books but honestly, I didn’t mind it in this book because it’s done well and has a unique twist to it. Minnie is fresh out of an awful relationship with an older man who manipulated and used her, and Jesse is newly separated from his wife (due to her infidelity) and is a father to a young daughter whom he adores. At the suggestion of her therapist, Minnie is tasked with finding a new friend and trying new things with no strings attached. After a chance run in at a café, Minne approaches Jesse and proposes that they start a platonic friendship as part of a game. The main rule of the game is that they cannot know anything about the other person, including their last names and they cannot exchange phone numbers or contact info. Very reluctantly Jesse agrees, and they begin meeting for random activities. After the "date " and before they part, they make plans for the next meet up having to trust that the other will show up. Little do they both know that these little “dates” are exactly what they each need to heal. Slowly, they both realize that there are stronger feelings at play but neither one wants to give in to these feelings until they finally do, and all of this happens over the course of five days. Jesse accidently reveals a big secret he has been holding on to and Minnie is so upset that she ends their friendship and new relationship. Of course, that had to happen or else there wouldn’t be a story. I thoroughly enjoyed both of these characters, and I think it's due to both of them being so quirky. Minnie is spontaneous, carefree, and fun and Jesse is a deep thinker who loves his daughter and parents more than anything. She teaches him how to loosen up and he shows her that there are trustworthy people in this world. The only part of this book that irritated me is the narrator when she was voicing Minnie’s character. That has absolutely nothing to do with the plot or the writing, but her voice was grating. Nonetheless, I thought this book was adorable.

In just a few pages, this book had me hooked. The main characters, Minnie Byrne and Jesse Lightning, were two of the most real and most absolutely loveable characters I've ever read! And cool names, right?! The short chapters that alternated between their perspectives, the dual timelines, and the way this story was written so beautifully all came together to make this an effortlessly enjoyable and fast read.
This book feels like an epic love story you'd see up on the big screen. A meet-cute with a will-they-won't-they-will-they storyline that rivals your favorite Meg Ryan and Tom Hanks rom-com of the 1990s. I found that I couldn't stop thinking about Minnie and Jesse, even when I put the book down, because I couldn't wait to find out where their journey would take them next.

3,5 rounded up simply because I enjoyed it so much! It's a pretty uncomplicated story and I didn't expect it to be as engaging as it was.

At the beginning of the book, I feared I was going to find Minnie annoying, but luckily I didn't! She's a quirky and energetic character that comes across as very likeable and also beleiveable - as do the other characters as well (the beleiveable, that it).
Both our main character's have some issue to deal with - both professionally and in their love lives - some tied to the past, other issues more current. Despite of this, I didn't feel like I was "manipulated" into liking the characters because I felt sorry for them, which I hate! Rather they accepted their circumstances and worked through it without these issues becoming all consuming. These characters weren't defined or described by their issues, they have clear and distinct personalities regardless.
Another big positive for this book: their struggles are always present in some way, but it's never overly stated, nor does it take the focus away from the story.
The book has a story beyond two people getting to know each other in a untraditional way, and the story develops at a very comfortable pace that never allowed me to get bored, yet I never felt like it rushed either. The book does a good job of covering both characters individual journeys as well as their relationship - and it doesn't ever seem to go off track or try to cover too much.

These characters weren't defined or described by their issues, they have clear and distinct personalities regardless.
Another big positive for this book: their struggles are always present in some way, but it's never overly stated, nor does it take the focus away from the story.
The book has a story beyond two people getting to know each other in a untraditional way, and the story develops at a very comfortable pace that never allowed me to get bored, yet I never felt like it rushed either. The book does a good job of covering both characters individual journeys as well as their relationship - and it doesn't ever seem to go off track or try to cover too much.

Five Days by Zoe Folbigg, still trying to get over her last heartbreak her therapist tells her to make new friends and this is why she intervenes and introduces her self to Jesse lightning. They both agree neither want nor have time for a romance and when mini ask Jesse if they could get together and be friends he awkwardly hesitates and then finally consents in a yeah, but not really type away. They both have baggage and claim to not want romance but of course that’s exactly what’s going to happen. Let me start by saying I didn’t like many at all and I found Jesse quite boring not to mention verbally abusive to the little boy in the book/record/coffee shop where they met and despite this mini wants to be his friend anyway but what really irked me about that whole introduction to the characters was when she kept saying “want to get together and play?” And then after their trip to the zoo when they met in front of the bingo hall she tells Jesse it’s nice to meet him despite the fact of already met hung out and they pre-arrange this bingo hall trip. I usually love Zoe Folbiggs romances because she is extremely edgy and always seems to be on the cusp of what’s new and trendy this is the next trend I think I will pass. I am still going to read her books as everyone can have a bad day or a bad book so I’m still a fan I just did not like this one. I mean cursing out a little boy is a lot to come back from and although I felt bad for Jesse in this whole situation with his daughter I just found that part holy unbelievable because if I saw a grown man cursing out a little boy for any reason the last thing I would want to do is be his partner. Not to mention I really didn’t like many at all. I’m so sorry I usually love the authors books but not this time.

In this unique and fun modern romance novel, readers meet Minnie Byrne and Jesse Lightning, two absolute strangers who meet on one of Jesse’s bad days. Minnie, however, sees friend potential in him and proposes fortnightly platonic friend dates (accompanied by a series of rules suggested by her therapist) that Jesse, to his surprise, accepts. Following their friendship over five days and five friend dates, Jesse and Minnie are both controlled by their secrets and their emotional traumas that the other does not know about. Five days of friendship is fine, unless emotions (good and bad) get involved. Both protagonists are complicated and flawed, with their own emotional struggles and hurdles that prevent them from forming relationships with others, and alternating between their two perspectives allows readers to really see where they struggle and what secrets they are keeping. Both characters are clever, kind, and creative, and their interactions and relationship is particularly interesting to follow over the course of this novel. Folbigg has brought them, as well as the backdrops of London and France, to life, as she has created complex and fully developed characters, locations, and backstories that will draw readers into this fascinating novel which mirrors readers’ internal struggles with connection and honesty (with themselves and others).

Zoe Folbigg is an excellent storyteller. I was so pleased to receive the invitation to read and review this book. I have read most of her other works; I especially liked The Note, which is well worth reading.
This book has a fabulous plot and a superb cast of characters. It is a perfect, uplifting romance.
The story begins quite slowly but soon gathers speed whilst encompassing you. It is a captivating love story set in some beautiful backdrops like Paris, the city of love and Provence, where the smell of lavender fills the air.
It's a delightful, uplifting read that I'm happy to recommend.

È interessante perché la protagonista è simpatica e il racconto costruito in modo insolito. “Minnie era una che si dava da fare. Una che piaceva a tutti. (...) voleva piacere agli insegnanti. Voleva piacere anche al terapeuta, cosa che sapeva essere ridicola".
Ma ci sono poi aspetti poco realistici: i protagonisti sono figli di persone famose eppure calde e accudenti, normali e fantastiche, insomma troppo brave. I protagonisti si creano quasi da soli problemi e difficoltà. Ci sono solo un paio di persone “cattive”, a cui viene dato comunque poco spazio. Forse l’autrice è come la protagonista e mette un po’ troppo impegno nel piacere?

But then there are unrealistic aspects: the protagonists are children of famous people and yet warm and caring, normal and great, in short, too good. The protagonists almost create problems and difficulties for themselves. There are only a couple of “bad” people, who are given little space anyway. Perhaps the author is like the protagonist and puts a little too much effort into pleasing them?

Can you fall in love with a person in five days? In Zoë Folbigg's latest release, those five days are actually five dates (not five consecutive days). Minnie Byrne and Jesse Lightning meet at a time when they are both in crisis. It's a bit of a meet cute for friendship. They establish some ground rules like: don't fall in love, don't use phones, etc. And they are off on one-of adventures together. My favorite was their time in France - although there was too much French dialogue without any translating.
Both Minnie and Jesse are likable characters and they have a definable chemistry. The arc of the plot is unusual as there is an entire section (Part II) that happens AFTER the Five Days. This is my first read by Folbigg and I do have enough interest to read more. Looking at the Acknowledgements, I see names of authors I love like Shari Low listed among her dearest friends. Safe to say if you are a Shari Lowe fan, you will also enjoy this author.

My Opinion
It took me a while to get into Five Days but it was actually quite a cute story. There is a lot going on within these pages, so you should expect a fast pace. This was only the second book I have read by Zoe Folbigg, but both have been lovely. If you aren't looking for a standard romance novel, then this one should definitely be on your list.
Minnie and Jesse meet in some unusual circumstances, but I really liked the chance that they took. A great holiday read.

My Opinion
It took me a while to get into Five Days but it was actually quite a cute story. There is a lot going on within these pages, so you should expect a fast pace. This was only the second book I have read by Zoe Folbigg, but both have been lovely. If you aren't looking for a standard romance novel, then this one should definitely be on your list.
Minnie and Jesse meet in some unusual circumstances, but I really liked the chance that they took. A great holiday read.

What a great idea for a plot!! It really intrigued me so I had to read it of course!!!
Minnie is a young woman who has been very depressed lately. So bad that her family interjected and put her in touch with a councillor. She’s also trying to crawl out from the shadow of a famous family and make her own way in life.
Jesse is reeling from the death of his father and the breakdown of his marriage. His young daughter Ida is really struggling with the change as Jesse has been replaced with an au pair. She really wants her Daddy.
Jesse is in a cafe and has an explosive incident with a young boy’s mother when the boy’s ball bounces and plops into his coffee sploshing all over his shirt. Minnie steps in to stand up for Jesse, who she feels is being ganged up on!! After calming the situation down, she gives him her hand and introduces herself as Minnie . She wants to have five days to have five platonic meetings to have a new friend with no romantic ties……
I thoroughly enjoyed the idea of this, the reality of this and the ending of this!! Brilliant!!
I f you also like the sound of this story, read this book!!!

What a ride - Minnie and Jesse start off as friends, with an excruciatingly awkward meet up. Both are reeling from messy relationship breakdowns and they have five dates and no electronic contact. It’s well written and their backstories unfold naturally as we understand how they got to where they are. Both are good, kind people doing their best and I wanted them to work it out. It’s funny at times and there’s some tender and wonderful moments - visiting zoos, time in London and Paris and Provence, missing each other in LA. The locations are particularly vivid and I could see them at St Pancras Station and in the lavender fields.
Part 1 worked better for me than Part 2, I was frustrated with the near misses in LA and I’d have liked to see more of them together and see how Minnie navigates her people-pleasing. I felt as if the dynamics of their being together were a little undercooked. It’s closed door too, so we don’t see how they connect. I’m off to read more of Zoë’s book though as I loved the characterisations, settings and the overall premise.

This is one of those romances that carries you with, through all the plot twists and surprises. You feel invested in the characters' stories. Minnie is a vulnerable but caring young woman whose trust issues have led her to be extremely wary of everybody. She has quite a rich back story which you glimpse as the story develops but the focus is always on Minnie and her hopes and dreams. Jesse proves to have as complicated past life of his own. Neither of them are ready for any new commitments so they start on a series of meetings, vowing to stay as friends. Of course, with the undeniable chemistry, that proves to be difficult.
Both characters have to make sacrifices for people they love. Their creative careers are at times all consuming. You gradually pick up on the similarities in their outlook and upbringing. What you never do is doubt their sincerity. This is a great read which I thoroughly enjoyed. You certainly get to see them at their most vulnerable but also hope that they can edge forward towards taking a leap of faith.
In short: learning to trust and starting over

Minnie and Jesse first encounter one another in a cosy cafe, striking up a conversation that leads to an agreement to have regular and purely platonic "play dates" in order to establish new connections. However, adhering to the advice from their therapist proves to be quite a challenge. Minnie is grappling with the aftermath of a painful breakup while also pursuing her dreams in the acting world, whereas Jesse is dealing with the recent loss of his father, the betrayal of his wife, and the endeavour of writing a children's book. Their shared escapades take them on a journey to Paris and Provence, where they visit Jesse's mother. The narrative of the book incorporates poignant flashbacks and examines the Bechdel test, at times utilizing strong language. Despite the challenges stemming from a difficult breakup, the overall story is deeply heartwarming, and the characters are truly endearing.

I wasn't familiar with Zoe Folbigg's work or writing style and the start of this story, particularly Jesse and Minnie's first two dates, did not really grab me. But once they progressed to their Paris trip, I was hooked and the closer I came to the end, the more invested in their story and the mystery of how it would end. I landed up really loving the plot and main characters.
I liked the flashbacks into the pivotal events of the previous six months leading up to their first meeting. And, though Minnie's backstory was good, it was Jesse's that really appealed. He's a father desperate to be with his seven year old daughter in the midst of a messy separation from her mother and torn up by the recent death of his father. A male character who was easy to love.
The romance was touching, the end game not a given, and, after reading Five Days, I now want to read more by this author.
